• StreamWriter does throw exception underlying connection is broken?

  I am using StreamWriter instantiated over a Tcpstream like this streamWriter = new StreamWriter(tcpClient.GetStream()); I am confused about the behaviour of following calls with regards to Exceptions. The following two functions are expected to raise IOException , Surprisingly they do not raise the IOException when the server is to which the tcpClient is connected is disconnected and therefore the underlying TCP client connection is broken.. These two lines execute without raising any Exception. Why ? streamWriter.WriteLine(strBuffer); streamWriter.Flush();

• Writing .NET in dynamic language?

  I'm confused by the possibility of writing .NET in dynamic languages, such as (Iron)Ruby. Particularly, I've seen code in IronRuby that used generics (...foo[String]), but I'm not aware of this feature in Ruby as it seems nonsense to me in dynamic languages. So, when I write .NET app in IronRuby, how is it with type safety and compilation? I thought that it is just as dynamic as Ruby everywhere else. I thought that if the Ruby syntax is OK all the type checking would be done at the runtime. Also, as far as I know, .NET itself is type-oriented - there are classes that heavily utilize the mentioned generics. How is this handled? And what about delegates? In dynamic languages I can have almost function-spaghetti and sometimes, its just fine (like hacking UI in javascript). Or do I have to care even about generic delegates?

I wonder how they achieve this. Originally i think it's some sort of image-only pop-up window but then pop-up window seems to update the entire view. Then I think it might be only change view state, but then I still confused how it can be done using view state. Flex expert please give me some hint !

• haar transformation on an image

  hello, i need some help with haar transformation, i have to apply it on an image. My math is bad, my english not all that awesome and i find it hard to understand from articles on the internet. I found this page http://www.cs.ucf.edu/~mali/haar/haar.cpp where the haar transformation is applied on 2d matrix. I suppose if i give image pixels matrix in there, it should work? im confused about this stuff, could someone enlighten me a bit please? Thank you!

• simple modification results in error

  When I tried to do a simple modification of the "hello android" program that eclipse adt plugin generates I get error and can't get the program to run again even if I restore the file to its original contents. The modification was that I changed a string in strings.xml. the line was: <string name="app_name">Todo List</string> and the app was runnable, then I changed it to <string name="app_name">Todo List1</string> and it was an error: [2010-04-21 23:18:03 - Todo_list] Error in an XML file: aborting build. And a new empty file also showed up called: strings.out.xml And then I can't get the prrogram back into runnable state even if I delete the empyt file and restore the original line, I'm a confused beginner of java, android and eclipse.

  HI All I need to write a scientific application in C++ doing a lot of computations and using a lot of memory. I have part of the job but due to high requirements in terms of resources I was thinking to start moving to OpenMPI. Before doing that I have a simple curiosity: If I understood the principle of OpenMPI is the developer that has the task of splitting the jobs over different nodes calling SEND and RECEIVE based on node available at that time. Do you know if it does exist some library or OS or whatever that has this capability letting my code reamain as it is now? Basically something that connects all computers and let share as one their memory and CPU? I am a bit confused because of the high material available on the topic. Should I look at cloud computing? or Distributed Shared Memory? Can you help me or address me a bit? Thanks

• What is a good measure of strength of a link and influence of a node?

  In the context of social networks, what is a good measure of strength of a link between two nodes? I am currently thinking that the following should give me what I want: For two nodes A and B: Strength(A,B) = (neighbors(A) intersection neighbors(B))/neighbors(A) where neighbors(X) gives the total number of nodes directly connected to X and the intersection operation above gives the number of nodes that are connected to both A and B. Of course, Strength(A,B) != Strength(B,A). Now knowing this, is there a good way to determine the influence of a node? I was initially using the Degree Centrality of a node to determine its "influence" but I somehow think its not a good idea because just because a node has a lot of outgoing links does not mean anything. Those links should be powerful as well. In that case, maybe using an aggregate of the strengths of each node connected to this node is a good idea to estimate its influence? I'm a little confused. Does anyone have any suggestions?

For those logical people who saw the box-model bug as not the bug and the W3C as the actual bug, this comes as a surprise. A reintroduction of this so-called bug and now we call it an enhancement? So can someone explain why this is different? I am honestly confused about this.

  Continuing from this question, i am confused whether DISPID_VALUE on IDispatch::Invoke() for script functions and properties (JavaScript in my case) can be considered standard and reliable for invoking the actual function that is represented by the IDispatch? If yes, is that mentioned anywhere in MSDN? Please note that the question is about if that behaviour can be expected, not what some interfaces i can't know in advance might look like.   hi, i hope there's a simple answer to this. without getting too complicated i have two classes. an "Animal" and a "Cell" Cell contains an Animal as a member. Animal has methods that accept Cells in their parameters. i'm just confused as to how i #include each class the others header? i've only ever had to go up a chain of classes and just included the last class header in the next and so on, but this circular situation has me a bit lost. i hope that makes sense, any help greatly appreciated.

• how to find out how much application memory django process is (or will be) taking?

  There are different "Application memory" options (like 80MB...200MB) in django-friendly hosting called webfaction and I'm confused deciding which one I should buy. Could someone please walk me through the ideas on how to figure out how much memory my project might require (excluding operating system, the main apache server and the database servers memory requirements)? I understand in theory I'll need to perform some kind of load testing, but thought there might be ways to calculate that in advance with some simple/relatively easy understandable approach. I don't know how hard they enforce application memory usage limit, and another question is: what will happen if more users came to the site and more threads started than what I expected? Will the application crash? Or will delays just become uncomfortable? And - no, application is not ready yet (I can't measure anything right now). Development environment if it matters is Winodows 7, 64-bit. Hosting itself is some kind of Linux I think. (Sorry if it's not a stackoverflow question.)

• Regex in javascript for enum datatype of mysql

  Hello, I am working with php and mysql. I have one dropdown box where I am asking datatype of mysql field. Now, I want to put javascript validation for it. I am confused with the enum datatype. I am using regular expression /^[']{1}[^',^\\]+[']{1}$/. This is for one single value of enum values. It is working fine but issue is when I put single quote or backslash with backslash, it is valid but this regular expression shows it as invalid. For eg, 'a'b' is invalid but 'a\'b' is valid.

• Which Subversion do I install for Windows?

I would have just downloaded the first entry but I am afraid it would break my server or something if I don't have apache. We use IIS only and I wouldn't want to break it somehow. I don't even need a web or webdav front end. • JBoss - does app have to be compiled under same jdk as JBOSS is running under?

  I'm a little confused about JBOSS and running it under different JDKs. For example, let's say I'm running JBOSS 5.1, and before starting it I set my JAVA_HOME to point to JDK5. Let's also assume that my JEE application is compiled under JDK6. If I deploy the JEE app (compiled under JDK6) to JBOSS, when I try to look up my EJBs I get errors like: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: tc_test_project not bound But if I recompile my code under JDK5 and redeploy it, it works fine and is able to lookup the EJBs ok. Likewise, I can set JAVA_HOME to JDK6 and start JBOSS, and my code (compiled under JDK6) will run ok under that scenario (it's able to find the EBJs, etc.). So it seems that your JEE app needs to be compiled under the same JAVA_HOME that the JBOSS server is going to be running under, or am I misunderstanding something? Just wanted to get confirmation, thanks.

• Scrollbar Problem

  Hi All, There is a datagrid on my page which contains a lot of data. When i click on any row , the user is redirected to a page where he can edit the content of that row. But suppose I am at the bottom of page and then if I click on any row, the scrollbar of browser automatically shifts upwards which causes illusion for the user and make him confused if he has clicked on some other row. Is there any solution to this so that the position of scrollbar does not change after clicking on any data in datagrid. Thanks in advance.

  I want to write a function in Java that takes as input an integer and outputs every possible permutation of numbers up to that integer. For example: f(1) 0 f(2) should output: 00 01 10 11 f(3) should output: 000 001 002 010 011 012 020 021 022 100 .... 220 221 222 That is it should output all 27 permutations of the digits of the numbers 0, 1, 2. f(4) should output 0000 0001 0002 0003 0010 ... 3330 3331 3332 3333 f(4) should output 00000 00001 ... 44443 44444 I have been trying to solve this problem but cannot seem to work out how to do it and keep getting confused by how many loops I need.   Hi, The legal section of this site mentions that all code by the contributors is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike License. Does this mean that I have to attribute the submitter even if the code in question is a few lines amongst hundreds or thousands of lines of code? What if I use code from a book or SDK? For eg; If I use the sample code from Google's Android SDK documentation, does that mean I need to attribute Google every time I write an app, after all it would be impossible to write an app without consulting the SDK docs, atleast initially... I am totally confused :S

I am slightly confused about it. I understand that Linux is available under GNU-GPL license as well. Does it mean ALL linux application are and has to be open source? Does it mean I can ask for the source code of complete Oracle DB from Oracle Corp (at least the part that runs on Linux)?

• MVC partial page update

  Hello, I have an MVC project where I have a form with fields a user can enter and save. On that same page I have a table which shows a brief listing of information that the user just saved. The problem I am having is trying to update only the table after a save and not an entire page refresh. Is this possible in jquery or MVC? If so does anyone have an example.
