  • Internet TV streaming applications

    Are there any programs for Ubuntu that can pull TV streams from the Internet ? For example like on a blu-ray player you get BBC iplayer and hulu and youtube as apps, so is there an application that can do this ? I know XMBC can but its to fiddly and resource hungry, I just want the net TV apps and not the full media center. Boxee was great for this, it was a media center but had an interface for the apps not just sticking them in some strange menu like XBMC. Please let me know of anything you know of

  • I Can't install Skype on Ubuntu 12.04 x64. Can someone help me?

    I'm having a trouble when trying to install Skype on my Ubuntu 12.04.1 x64. My notebook have compatible hardware with Ubuntu. My previous OS installed on this machine was the Ubuntu 12.04 x64 and Skype was working great, but I got a formatation and I installed the New ubuntu 12.04.1. When I try to install by the Ubuntu software Center, or by the sudo apt-get install skype, I get this error message (in Portuguese) : "Os pacotes a seguir têm dependências desencontradas: skype: Depend: skype-bin E: impossivel corrigir problemas, você manteve (hold) pacotes quebrados." Something like i have the skype-bin package missing (or broken). I can't find it on Software center. I tried to install it by downloading a deb package with the skype-bin package but it ask for a lot another packages! I tried install the .deb package from the official Skype site, but I got the same error! Any Help? Sorry about my bad English, I'm Brazilian

  • Application didnt upgraded after upgrading ubuntu to 13.10

    I upgraded my laptop from ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10. Its working like a charm. But I doubt if software-center, file manager, vlc, etc upgraded. Still I am not getting the new versions of softwares in software-center. I am not able to see any new features in file managers as was noted on many blogs. VLC still showing the old version 2.0.8. Its being said that its upgraded to VLC 2.1 or just a dist-upgrade would do the job. But it didn't. Also I need to know the default applications (with version) provided by ubuntu 13.10 Kindly help.

  • CABasicAnimation not scrolling with rest of View

    All, I'm working on reproducing the pulsing Blue circle effect that the map uses to show your own location... I layered a UIView over a MKMapView. The UIView contains the pulsing animation. While the position I want highlighted is centered on the screen the animation works ok, once I've dragged the position so it's no longer centered the animation now pulses starting at the center of the screen scaling up to center on the position dragged off center, and back again... A humorous and cool effect, but not what I was looking for. I realize I may have been lucky on several fronts. I'm not sure what I misunderstood. I think the animation is scaling the entire layer which just happens to have my circle drawn in the middle of it. So it works when centered but not when off center. I tried the following gleaned from one of the questions suggested by stackoverflow when I started this question: CABasicAnimation* translateAnimation = [CABasicAnimation animationWithKeyPath:@"position"]; translateAnimation.fromValue = [NSValue valueWithCGPoint:CGPointMake(oldx, oldy )]; translateAnimation.toValue = [NSValue valueWithCGPoint:CGPointMake(x, y )]; // translateAnimation.fillMode = kCAFillModeBoth; translateAnimation.duration = 1.0; translateAnimation.timingFunction = [CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]; [self.layer addAnimation:translateAnimation forKey:@"translateAnimation"]; But it doesn't help much, when I play with it sometimes it looks like once time it animates in the correct spot after I've moved it offcenter, but then it switches back to the animating from the center point to the new location. Sooo, any suggestions or do I need to provide additional information.

  • Draw Circle on the Map once the application gets loaded

    Background:- In my application what is happening currently- Whenever I am opening the application, In the top half of the android screen, it draws a Map and in the bottom half of the android screen it show's a list view. And then as soon as the location gets changed, it draw's a Circle with the current location as the center of the circle and show's an image at the current location(center of circle). Everything is working fine till here- Problem Statement:- What I want is when the user opens my application, circle should get draw immediately on the Google Map (this is currently not happening, it draw's circle only on the location changed), without waiting for the location to get changed and without any image on the center of circle and then if the location get's changed, take the current location as the center of circle and draw the circle with an image at the center of circle. And this is my below code which fulfills the scenario that I mentioned in my Background- How can I make this code to work the way I wanted to? hope I am clear enough in my question.   • Autonumber with Entity Framework

    I want to loop through a collection of objects and add them all to a table. The destination table has an auto-increment field. If I add a single object there is no problem. If I add two objects both with the primary key of zero, the entity framework fails. I can manually specify primary keys but the whole point of trying the EF was to make life easier not more complicated.     I have the following models set up: class Contact < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :band belongs_to :mode validates_presence_of :call, :mode validates_associated :mode, :band validates_presence_of :band, :if => :no_freq? validates_presence_of :freq, :if => :no_band? protected def no_freq? freq.nil? end def no_band? band.nil? end end class Band < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :logs end class Mode < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :logs end When I enter a frequency on my new view it allows for no band to be specified if a freq is entered. This creates a problem in my other views though because band is now nil. How do I allow for band not to be specified and just show up as empty on my index and show views, and then in the edit view allow one to be specified at a later point in time. I have been able to get my index to display a blank by doing: contact.band && contact.band.name But I'm not sure if this is a best approach, and I'm unsure of how to apply a similar solution to my other views.   • Performance problem with System.Net.Mail

    I have this unusual problem with mailing from my app. At first it wasn't working (getting unable to relay error crap) anyways I added the proper authentication and it works. My problem now is, if I try to send around 300 emails (each with a 500k attachment) the app starts hanging around 95% thru the process.     It feels dirty. But maybe it isn't... is it ok to use a StringBuilder for writing XML? My gut instinct says "although this feels wrong, it's probably pretty darn performant because it's not loading extra libraries and overhead." Here's what it looks like.   • Posting XML form data to a RESTful Server with Javascript or PHP

    Hi folks, I've been given the task of posting to a RESTful server. I'm new to the official "REST" but I've played with the concept before. However, this time I have an XML Payload example file that I am supposed to post. I'm struggling to figure out how the two relate. Can you help? Right now I can post to a specific site, say www.pcpost.com/schema/Application I can generate the URL for the inital, ie: postApplication?userid=4&... Being relatively new to web programming, I find that don't know how to take the following and interface it with the server. I'm at least familiar with Javascript and PHP. If this is impossible with those two types, I can learn whatever would be best. Thanks for your help on this.   • wordpress conditional statements

    I am using this code in wordpress to display different content when different pages are loaded. I have 5 pages on the site called Home, Bio, Work, Contact and Notes. The Notes page is being used as a blog. Here is the code I am using. <?php if (is_page('contact')) { ?> get in touch with me <?php } elseif (is_single()) { ?> a note from me <?php } elseif (is_page('notes')) { ?> the notes of me <?php } else { ?> the <?php the_title(); ?> of me <?php } ?> So if it the contact page, it displays "get in touch with me" and if it is a single blog post page it displays "a note from me". However this is where I have a problem. The next statement should display "the notes of me" when it is on the Notes page. However, this does not happen. Instead it shows the default content which is in the "else" statement. any idea on why this is happening?

  • A really smart rails helper needed

    In my rails application I have a helper function: def render_page( permalink ) page = Page.find_by_permalink( permalink ) content_tag( :h3, page.title ) + inline_render( page.body ) end If I called the page "home" with: <%= render_page :home %> and "home" page's body was: <h1>Home<h1/> bla bla <%= render_page :about %> <%= render_page :contact %> I would get "home" page, with "about" and "contact", it's nice and simple... right up to where someone goes and changes the "home" page's content to: <h1>Home<h1/> bla bla <%= render_page :home %> <%= render_page :about %> <%= render_page :contact %> which will result in a infinite loop ( a segment fault on webrick )... How would I change the helper function to something that won't fall into this trap? My first attempt was along the lines of: @@list = [] def render_page( permalink ) unless @@list.include?(permalink) @@list += [ permalink ] page = Page.find_by_permalink result = content_tag( :h3, page.title ) + inline_render( page.body ) @@list -= [ permalink ] return result else content_tag :b, "this page is already being rendered" end end which worked on my development environment, but bombed out in production... any suggestions?
