    I want to remotely control my home desktop PC (running Windows 7 Professional), mainly to perform the following tasks: Downloading email attachments, and sending emails with attachments Running UI-less programs whose only inputs are files and whose only outputs are files So far, the only solution I have found is to use Remote Desktop to connect to my PC, but this is very slow and inefficient, especially when there is no fast Internet connection available other than my cell phone's. I would like to be able to send batch commands to my PC, like: Download an email attachment Use it as input for an UI-less program Save the program's output to a file Send that file to myself as an email attachment Is this possible? How could I do it?

  • Can't use ubuntu 12.04 , after pc crashed while updating

    few days ago while ubuntu 12.04 was doing a common system uodate , my laptop turned off in the middle of process , due to bad ac power. Since then , i can only login but nothing else. A message about compiz appear , but mouse keyboard , icons , unity are not working. the only thing i was able to do is a boot-repear ,as discribed in ubuntu's site, but neither this helped. Hope you can help me. thanks!

  • PC won't boot up after installing 11.10

    I have a HP/Compaq s1010z (AMD64) desktop and installed 11.10 from a CD (using the entire disk). So it formatted the entire drive, went through installation and then it ejected the CD and asked me to click the Restart button, which I did. It rebooted fine the first time, but any time thereafter, it fails. Meaning, after the initial BIOS screen, the monitor seems to be stuck in limbo with a text cursor blinking on the top left corner, as if it can't find anything to boot from. At first I tried reinstalling (reformat entire drive again) - no improvement. Then I did an in-place re-installation (leave home dirs in place, just redo the OS), nothing there either. Then I put in the 11.04 CD, changed the boot order to CD first, and got the CD menu, chose 'Boot from first hard disk' and it booted fine. The problem is that I can't boot without the 11.04 CD, how ironic! Any ideas?

    One of my co-workers once saw a device that plugged into a RJ45 jack, that emulated a PC. It could be configured with an IP address, and respond to pings. I was wondering if anyone knew about these, or even what they are called? This will be used to simulate a PC in a classroom environment. Thanks in advance. Edit: This is a CCNA classroom, we are looking to simulate a PC connected to an ethernet port on a router. These will be on different subnets, etc. This might be doable with a VM through VLANs and virtual switches, but then we are getting away from configuring the physical ports on the router the way we want to.

  • Access denied to EFS encrypted files after PC joins domain

    I'm experiencing strange behavior with Windows Encrypted File System: I have a machine that is in workgroup mode (not joined to a domain) I encrypt an entire directory structure on the machine (basically a folder and subfolders with data files for my application). My application writes and reads files from the encrypted file hierarchy as a local Windows user (let's call the account 'SecureUser'). This works fine I then join the PC to a domain (Let's call it 'TEST') Afterwards, processes running as the local 'SecureUser' account can't read the files it wrote originally when it was off the domain (What is also strange is that the files are listed as "read only" now and I cannot unset this flag via Windows Explorer or the command line, even though it looks like it succeeds) I then 'un-join' the PC from the domain and everything works again Is there something about changing domain membership on a PC that changes the behavior of EFS so that previously encrypted files cannot be read, even by the originating user?     i need to know if its possible to share a folder, so that i can open the files in it from ubuntu and windows at the time im using windows but im planning to move back to ubuntu but my problem would be losing some compatibility that windows offers me when im doing college work, and that can be a pain, so my plan is to dual boot and have both OS. but i dont want to be loging in and out of each OS in order to work or share files so is ther a way to share folders or files between, lets say, ubuntu 14.0 and windows 7?

    I've been a long-time Nokia fan, but finally succumbed to the Samsung Galaxy S3's amazing screen, & Android's Open community. One feature I use a lot (about a hundred times a day...) is Nokia PC Suite's ability to send SMS via the phone. It: Uses my phone's contact list. Notifies me when I get an sms. Allows me to send SMS using my PC's keyboard. Essentially turning SMS into just another IM medium I use on the PC. How will I do this with the Samsung Galaxy S3 + Windows 7?

  • PC does not restart after last kernel update

    I was using ubuntu 12.04 perfectly im my desktop until last kernel update (3.2.0-51). After the update proccess and reboot the system, the unity inteface didn' t start. The only way to login in the system is by tty. I have tried the last kernel versions available in the computer, but I can't use the graphycal interface. Until the text terminals is impossible to access the unity interface. If I don't encounter a solution I will re-install the whole system. Anybody can help me?

  • How can I remap my keys to act like the Macintosh keyboard (like hold alt l + l click = r click)?

    I want my keyboard layout to act like a Macintosh keyboard. It's hard to use my computer after years on a mac. I want to disable my right mouse click, and replace it with alt + right mouse click. The alt key will also act like ctrl. I want my left ctrl to be the HUD key. I still want my super key to be the same. Can someone please make a script, or point me in the direction of a program to do all this with ease. If you were to make a script/whatever, can you please make one what will reverse all keyboard changes in-case I feel that it is not the same. I will add to the post if I miss anything. Thank you.

    I Need to create connection between ios to windows by using socket programming in ios. I'm trying to to use an application to communicate with Windows via sockets. At the minimum, I'm trying to at least figure out how I can create a connection from the iPhone (maybe using the iPhone to ping the Windows machine?) I'm not really clear on where I need to start. I'm pretty new to iOS development in general, and brand new to socket/network programming. I've tried several tutorials that haven't gotten me far. My goal is: Connect to a server via sockets (the server will be a Windows machine with a service waiting for incoming connections from the iPhone) If possible, I would like to write/build the client piece first, but I have been lost thus far. Hopefully the nice folks in the SO community can lend a hand and point me in the right direction.

Now, I sometimes face an issue where both machine PC and machine MAC have different versions of the same code, and I would like them to share a common source.   • How do I stop Python install on Mac OS X from putting things in my home directory?

(OS X 10.6.2, Python-2.6.5.tar.bz2) I've done this before and it was easy, but for some reason, this time after ./configure, and make, the sudo make install puts things some things in my home directory instead of in /usr/local/... where I expect. The .py files are okay, but not the .so files...
