  • How to make Horde connect to mysql with UTF-8 character set?

    How to tell horde 3.3.11 to use UTF-8 for it's mysql connection? The $conf['sql']['charset'] only tells horde what is expected from the database. Horde uses MDB2 to connect to mysql. Is there way to force MDB2 or mysql character_set_client from php.ini? So far I found two workarounds: Force mysql to ignore character set requested by client [mysqld] skip-character-set-client-handshake=1 default-character-set=utf8 Force mysql to run SET NAMES utf8 on every connection [mysqld] init-connect='SET NAMES utf8' Both have drawbacks on multi user mysql server. The first disables converting character sets alltogether and the second one forces every connection to produce UTF-8. [EDIT] Found the problem. The 'charset' parameter was unset the last minute before sending to SQL backend. This is probably due to mysql not being able to digest utf-8 but utf8. Mysql specific mapping is required to make it work. I just worked around it by translating utf-8 - utf8. The site is an intranet site, and all users are authenticated before gaining access. Is there any way in Google Analytics to track user information so we can see details of the login names of who is accessing content?

  • Sent items listed by sender's name (my name!) not recipient in Outlook for Mac 2011

    Outlook 2011 on a Mac (OSX7 Lion), on a (mostly PC) office network using Microsoft Exchange server. In Outlook 2011, in the network "Sent Items" folder, all emails are listed showing the sender's name (my name), not the recipients' names. That means every single email is headed with my own name, like this: My Name 08/09/2012 Some subject line [flag] My Name 08/09/2012 Re: Another subject line [flag] My Name 07/09/2012 Re: different subject line [flag] My Name 07/09/2012 different subject line [flag] ...and so on. There's no clue at all as to who these emails were to, until I open each and every one. I guess it's reassuring to be told that every email that I sent was sent by me... and if I was ever to forget my own name while browsing my sent emails folder, it'd be super useful... But it's not very helpful for navigating sent emails. Is this normal for Office for Mac 2011? How can I fix this, so that the list shows the recipients' names instead of endlessly reminding me of my own name? Things I've found while researching this: This can also happen in Outlook for Windows. On Windows, it's easily fixed by resetting the field. That method doesn't work on Mac because the fields can't be selected separately. It seems this can also happen in Apple Mail too, and a lot of people seem stumped by this. I can't find anything on this specific to Outlook 2011 or Outlook for Mac in general. A simple guide on how to fix this would be the best answer, but I'd also welcome any knowledgable thoughts from Microsoft Exchange Server people on whether this sounds like an Outlook settings issue which I can fix on my machine, or some issue relating to how the Mac gets data from the server and network. The fact that Apple Mail users have encountered the same issue with no apparent fix makes me think the problem might be in the network rather than the mail client - but that's way beyond my limited knowledge of these things. I don't know whether the local ("On my computer") Sent Items folder has the same problem, as it's configured so that no emails except drafts are ever stored in these local folders. Drafts saved locally are listed by recipient as expected.

  • Fast user switching suddenly stopped working on my Windows XP Prof machine

    When I start Win XP SP2 I get to the welcome screen with no user names displayed. I then press Alt+Ctrl+Del twice and type in the username and then am able to login to Windows. When I go to user accounts in Control Panel I get the error message cells.item(...) is null or not an object. When I go to computer administration and then local users and groups there are no users listed under users but the groups is listed. I did a windows repair with no luck. I tried doing restore points but it said they didn’t work. Please help? My wife and I have been using fast user switching on out computer for years with no problem. I have done system point restores and imports of exports of the registry I take with import. I have tried everything under safe mode and it makes no difference. This followed a Microsoft update the night before as I left the computer on. I tried to do a restore point but all my restore points failed and could not backout the MS updates. I was working with a fellow from Microsoft and he had me do all kinds of things but to no avail. He seems to think a DLL file is corrupt but which one? Finally in desperation he sent me a new OS XP Prof SP3 disk and I installed it and it wiped my hard drive. Luckily I took an Acronis Image backup first so I easily restored my system. I do not want to do a fresh windows update as it is heavily customized and worked fine up to that point. This has been going on for months, Thanks John

    I'm dealing with a server running SQL Server 2000 SP1, and the logical filenames for one of the databases appear to contain trailing spaces. That is, this query: select replace(name, ' ', 'X') from sysfiles Returns the expected names plus a long string of Xs. How can I deal with this? I've tried running ALTER DATABASE... MODIFY FILE using the name (with and without spaces) and get an error message telling me the file does not exist.

    I am looking for free software to do batch conversions of divx video files to iPhone format. I have read the thread: http://superuser.com/questions/5784/looking-to-convert-video-to-iphone-format Handbrake works good for single files but it has very little customization with regards to files names and the batch functionality is not very good (or at least I can't get it to work very easily). Can anyone recommend a good batch converter? A script for Handbrake to do a batch for all in a specific directory would be useful even.

  • File Access problems with SLES 10 SP2 OES2 SP1

    We have identified a couple of repeatable, demonstrable scenarios with unexplained rejected folder access on our servers for Mac users. Hopefully, this can be presented to Novell for a solution. What we did to demonstrate scenario 1; 1. setup a PC and Mac side-by-side 2. login to our server and open up to a central location on both Mac and PC 3. on the PC in that central location create a folder 4. on the Mac in that central location drag the created folder to the Mac desktop, this should work fine, no problem 5. on the PC rename that folder 6. on the Mac drag a file to that renamed folder, this should error with the following message; a. You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the destination. Do you want to skip copying these items and continue copying the other items? b. Select skip, response is the filename is copied to the location with zero or small byte size. Try opening it and you get file is corrupted error message. What we did to demonstrate scenario 2; 1. setup a PC and Mac side-by-side 2. login to our server and open up to a central location on both Mac and PC 3. on the PC in that central location create a folder then create a subfolder 4. copy some content into the subfolder 5. on the Mac in that central location drag the created top level folder to the Mac desktop, this should work fine, no problem 6. on the PC rename that subfolder 7. on the Mac drag that top level folder to the Mac desktop, this should error on the Mac with the following; a. The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for b. The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for 8. on the Mac, if you open that subfolder you can see the file copied in step 4 above but, you can not open that file, you get the following message if you try; a. There was an error opening this document. You do not have permission to open this file. 9. on the PC drag some content into the top level folder 10. on the Mac you can open that file directly from the server or copy it locally, no problem, however-the subfolder is still corrupted or locked, whichever 11. on the PC rename the top level folder 12. on the Mac that same file just opened in step 10 above is now not accessible, get the following message; a. The document could not be opened. I have observed some variances in the above. For instance, a change on the PC side may take a moment before you can observer or act on the Mac side - kind of like the server is slow to respond. Also, the error message may vary. However, the key is once a folder, or subfolder, gets renamed by a PC, Mac problems commence. The solution is to create a new folder from a PC and copy the contents of the corrupted folder to the new folder and not rename the folder name. This has to be done on a PC because the corrupted folder is not accessible by a Mac user. Another problem that dovetails with the above is that we know certain characters are not allowed for PC folder or filenames. If a Mac user creates a folder with a slash in the file name, from the PC the user does not see that slash in the name. As soon as the PC user copies a file to that folder, the Mac user is locked from that folder. Will get the following error message; - Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. - (Error code - 50) In addition to the above mentioned character issue with folders, the problem is more evil with filenames. If, for example, you create a file with a slash in the filename on a Mac and copy it to the server you will get the following error message; - You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the destination. Do you want to skip copying these items and continue copying the other items? Select either Stop or Skip buttons. It does not matter which button is selected. The file name gets copied to the destination location at a reduced size. Depending on the file type, the icon associated with the file may or may not be present. Furthermore, if you open that file on the server you will get the following message; - Couldnt open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that doesnt recognize. From the users perspective, if they are not observant of the icon or file size, they may disregard the error message and think their file has copied as intended. Only later do they discover the file is corrupt if they open that file. I want to make a note on this problem. It is the PC causing the issue. You can change folder and file names all day on a MAC and you don't have a problem as long as a character is not the issue. Once you change the file name or folder name from a PC the entire folder structure from that level down is corrupted. But it has to be resolved from a PC by creating a new folder and copying the contents to the new folder like stated above. Is something not configured correctly?   • Changing terminal colors in Ubuntu Server

    I'd like to change the colors. The lime green hilighting on pale blue colored file names is killing my eyes. I'm not sure if I'm using xterm or gnome or whatever, but I would like to change the default color scheme (preferable to something less offensive to my corneas) and have it stay changed (update my user profile). Colors are nice, but sometimes it makes the text unreadable. I would settle for having no colors, standard B&W, if I can't have nice colors.

    I want to archive all .ctl files in a folder, recursively. tar -cf ctlfiles.tar `find /home/db -name "*.ctl" -print` The error message : tar: Removing leading `/' from member names tar: /home/db/dunn/j: Cannot stat: No such file or directory tar: 74.ctl: Cannot stat: No such file or directory I have these files: /home/db/dunn/j 74.ctl and j 75. Notice the extra space. What if the files have other special characters? How do I archive these files recursively?

  • Windows Server 2008 Stnd - Wins Issue Possibly???

    Currently we have a freshly setup Windows Server 2008 server acting as DNS and AD,Print and File server. I setup VPN and routing services and was able to successfully connect through VPN however I can't resolve any host using NETBios names. Only IP addresses. Sounds like I need to add a role for WINS but since this is a LIVE environment I'm a little hesitant about adding and removing additions to the box. What would I need to do to resolve this issue?

  • With CentOS 6 and LXC, "ifconfig" is unable to see network interface (but busybox "ifconfig" works fine)

    I've just started working with LXC under CentOS 6 (via the libvirt adapter). If I create an LXC container, I'm unable to see any network interfaces when using the native system tools: # ifconfig -a # The behavior is very odd; specifying an interface by names yields neither the expected output nor an error message. This is true even for clearly invalid interface names, like this: # ifconfig foo # The ip command exhibits the same behavior. This could be either an LXC or a virsh issue, I guess.
