  • My datacard goes online but doesn't gives internet access (Fedora 14).

    I am using MTS datacard. I have usb_modeswitch installed and have configured the wvdial.conf file. When I do sudo wvdial cdma, the IPs and DNS addresses are also allocated but I still cant access internet.     I have found a field in DSDT table where I want to modify from here http://www.ztex.de/misc/c2ctl.e.html Generally, I want to modify the _PSS field about the processor so that I can have more frequency levels available in the CPUfreq driver interface. They like the price of PayPal, but don't really like the interface. Could I offer them an alternative service to PayPal that would allow me to setup a checkout page directly on their website and not require their users to create accounts?

  • How do I resolve "conflicting accounts" in google apps without breaking links to online photos on picasa?

    I have been using google apps for some time, and only recently learned I have what google calls "conflicting accounts" which is creating a problem I haven't been able to resolve. Turns out that the apps account really only covers email, google docs, and the calendar and not other features like picasa, blogger, youtube etc. and at some point they gave me a non-apps google account with my same (proprietary non-gmail) email address for the additional apps. This is the "conflicting account." I had noticed that I sometimes had to come in through another door when I went back and forth, between docs, picasa, and mail let's say, but never understood why since it was the same username and password and I didn't get any communication about it at the time. Google is now in the process of giving google apps users access to the additional apps and providing instructions for consolidating the two accounts. But if I want to move my picasa site into the new apps structure I have to download my albums and re-synch them. This would be disastrous for me as I have hundreds of photos embedded in my websites, and new web addresses would break all the connections. The alternative seems to be to rename my "personal" (non-apps) accounts as described at http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?answer=185186: Users with conflicting Google Accounts can easily resolve their conflicts by renaming their personal Google Accounts, and the data in their personal accounts will remain safe and accessible to them. Here’s how a user can rename their personal Google Account: * Step 1: Visit www.google.com/accounts and sign in with your personal Google Account * Step 2: Click ‘Change email’ under ‘Personal Settings’ * Step 3: Enter a different email address where you can receive mail, enter your password, and click ‘Save email address’ * Step 4: Check your other email If your users don’t have different email addresses where they can receive mail, they can resolve the conflict by renaming their personal Google Accounts to @gmail.com addresses instead. Sounds easy enough, right? I gave them a gmail address. The wizard said "sorry you can't use a gmail account for this" --which contradicts the last paragraph above but ok, I switched to a new email address I just created for one of my domains. I can send email back and forth between this account and my google apps account with no problem. But when I try to use it as a replacement on the "personal" side I always get "The password you gave is incorrect." I have tried it over and over and know the password is correct. Since I like to get all my emails though one web interface I initially had the new email set up as an add-on to my google apps email account, but noting that the instructions said the "personal account" email could not be associated with any other gmail account I took it off and went back to accessing it via horde so there would be no conflict there, which seemed to make no difference. I can't figure out why it won't accept the password. Does anyone have any thoughts about that? or suggestions for another way to resolve my picasa problem? any help at all is greatly appreciated.     Hi, I'm looking for a shared library that is to be loaded using LD_PRELOAD that would modify the view of the filesystem to the client program. Ideally, I'd like to choose the filesystem root (or use / as root) and to overlay the filesystem by renaming filenames. For example, I might want to tell my program to look for /usr/lib/* in /usr/lib32/* instead. Do you know of such a program ? Thanks.

  • How can one use online backup with large amounts of static data?

    I'd like to setup an offsite backup solution for about 500GB of data that's currently stored between my various machines. I don't care about data retention rates, as this is only a backup of, not primary storage, for my data. If the backup is stored on crappy non-redundant systems, that does not matter. The data set is almost entirely static, and mostly consists of things like installers for Visual Studio, and installer disk images for all of my games. I have found two services which meet most of this: Mozy Carbonite However, both services impose low bandwidth caps, on the order of 50kb/s, which prevent me from backing up a dataset of this size effectively (somewhere on the order of 6 weeks), despite the fact that I get multiple MB/s upload speeds everywhere else from this location. Carbonite has the additional problem that it tries to ignore pretty much every file in my backup set by default, because the files are mostly iso files and vmdk files, which aren't backed up by default. There are other services such as EC2 which don't have such bandwidth caps, but such services are typically stored in highly redundant servers, and therefore cost on the order of 10 cents/gb/month, which is insanely expensive for storage of this kind of data set. (At $50/month I could build my own NAS to hold the data which would pay for itself after ~2-3 months) (To be fair, they're offering quite a bit more service than I'm looking for at that price, such as offering public HTTP access to the data) Does anything exist meeting those requirements or am I basically hosed?

  • HELP! Free space not reclaimed after online resizing ext4 in Ubuntu 9.10

    My root partition was filling up, with only 500 mbs left, I wanted to resize my root partition from 20 Gb to 40Gb So I resized my partition by using these steps: Using Gparted to resize another partition to give space for the EXT4 Using fdisk, deleting the root partition (on /dev/sda2), and creating it again using the new size resize2fs /dev/sda2 Updating grub2 But now the problem is that although I can boot in my new partition and the new partition shows it is 40Gb, but the free size was still 500mb. So I booted from a LiveCD and checked with e2fsck -p /dev/sda2, it reported clean. So I added the -f flag (force check), still, the drive is full.

  • Is there any way to synchronize AD users with Office 365 but still be able to edit them online?

    I'm performing a migration to Office 365 from a third-party mail server (MDaemon); the local Active Directory doesn't include any Exchange server, and never had any. We will need directory synchronization in order to enable users to log on to Office 365 using their domain credentials; but it seems that as soon as you enable directory synchronization, you can't perform any action anymore on Office 365 users: all changes need to be made on the local Active Directory, and then replicated by the synchronization process. For ordinary users with a single e-mail address and standard features, this is not a big problem; but what about users which need an additional address? What if I need to configure some nonstandard setting, like "hide from address list" or a custom mailbox quota? From what I've gathered, the only supported way to do this, as you can't directly edit Office 365 objects anymore after synchronization is enabled, is to extend the local AD schema with Exchange attributes, and then manually edit them (!). Or, you can install at least one local Exchange server, and then use the Exchange administrative tools to configure the required settings. Is this correct or am I missing something? Is there any way to synchronize user accounts and password, but still be able to edit user settings directly in Office 365? If not (everything really needs to be set locally and then synchronized), is there any simpler way to do this than manually editing LDAP attributes or installing a local Exchange server?

    A person who is not very computer-savvy needs to store 130GB of photos. The key parameters are: an non-negligible probability that the company selling the storage will be existing, and the data accessible, for at least five years data should be considered safe once uploaded reasonable terms of service: google drive reserving the right to literally do anything they want with their user's data is not acceptable; the possibility that the CIA might look at those pictures is not considered a threat easy to use from Windows, preferably as a drive no nerve-wracking limitations ("cannot upload 10GB/day" or "files 500MB" etc.) that serve no purpose other than pushing the user to the next-higher price plan some upgrade plan: there's currently 10-30GB of new photos per year, with a tendency to increase, which might bust a 150GB limit next January ability to somehow sort the pictures: currently they are sorted into folders, but something alike (tags) would be just as good, if easy enough to apply of course, the pricing is important (although there's a reason this is the last bullet; reasonable data safety is considered more important) Nice to have, but not necessary features would be: additional features related to photos (thumbnail generation, album sharing etc.) access from web and other platforms than Windows (smart phones) Let me stress this again: The person in need of that is able to copy pictures from the camera to the computer, can copy files in the explorer, and uses a web email service. That's about it, there's almost no understanding of what happens under the hood.

  • How do you stop windows 7 from auto streaming mp3's online?

    Be it IE, Firefox or Chrome whenever I try to download a media file windows 7 starts streaming it in the browser instead of giving me options about what I want to do with the file i'm trying to download. I know the problem is with the OS and not the browser because I can download the file just fine off the website when I use Ubuntu. I get the feeling somewhere a setting is saying "open all mp3's in browser" but I dont know where to find or change it. Can anyone help? Edit: If I click on the FLAC version of the audio file, windows 7 automatically downloads it. If I click on the MP3 version, it automatically streams it to the browser.

  • I'm having trouble getting my server to appear online.

    Total newb question I'm sure. First I had installed WAMP (http://www.wampserver.com), and I was able to access my pages from other computers in my router network, and the virtual device used to debug Android programs (the purpose of my having a server). This functionality failed, however, at some point over these past few days. While my own browser displays the pages just fine, other computers, my Android phone (on our room's wifi), and my virtual device are no longer able to connect to my pages. I had not made any changes in the settings. I uninstalled WAMP and installed EasyPHP. However, the problem was not resolved. I know this is rather vague, but does anyone here have an idea of what may have happened? I forwarded both port 80 (I know its the default HTTP port, I did it just to be safe), and now port 8888 which EasyPHP uses. I turned my firewall on my hosting computer off for good measure. I cannot access my pages from neither remote computers or computers using my router. Any ideas you may have on how to resolve this would be awesome, thanks a lot. And if you need anymore info please tell me.

    I have many friends from Ukraine who are programmers. So I found out that they have a web site that collects, organizes and analyzing information about IT companies, which includes location, feedbacks, company reviews from current and former employees etc. They also collect programming salaries and organize them by language, region etc. That web site is ran by programmers and for programmers, all information is absolutely public and free. Plus, web site has forums, and people can discuss (more or less social than specific programming stuff) things, publish articles, news etc. I personally think that is useful, especially for those who are new in this industry. For example, you may do a small research and find out that, for example, Java programmers getting paid more than PHP programmers but demand is lower. Or you get an offer from the company, is about to accept it, but read reviews and find out that they don't even provide internet access at work and if you need to download something, you have to ask your manager to do it for you, and managers share a single computer that has internet connection to get that stuff for you (there is only one such company in Kiev, Ukraine, called SMK, for Software Mac Kiev, a big shame). So the question is - do we have something like it in US? Or at least, say, for New York region? Or state? All information I managed to find online is inaccurate or not full. Forums are very specific. If we don't have it, would you be interested in creating such a portal? Thanks!

  • Cant correctly install Lazarus

    I have a little problem with installing and running Lazarus. I just upgrade ubuntu from 13.04 to 13.10. When i had 13.04, i could install lazarus without any problems, but in 13.10 lazarus magicaly dissapeared, and when i tried install it from ubuntu software center, it said something like in my software resources lazarus-ide-0.9.30.4 doesnt exist. After some research on net i tried delete all files from earlier installations, download deb packages from sourceforge and install them, but when i want to instal fpc-src, error shows up with output: (Reading database ... 100% (Reading database ... 239063 files and directories currently installed.) Unpacking fpc-src (from .../Stiahnut/Lazarus/fpc-src.deb) ... dpkg: error processing /home/richi/Stiahnut/Lazarus/fpc-src.deb (--install): trying to overwrite '/usr/share/fpcsrc/2.6.2/rtl/nativent/tthread.inc', which is also in package fpc-source-2.6.2 2.6.2-5 dpkg-deb (subprocess): decompressing archive member: internal gzip write error: Broken pipe dpkg-deb: error: subprocess <decompress> returned error exit status 2 dpkg-deb (subprocess): cannot copy archive member from '/home/richi/Stiahnut/Lazarus/fpc-src.deb' to decompressor pipe: failed to write (Broken pipe) when i started lazarus, it of course tell me that it cant find fpc compier and fpc sources.   • Why is it so difficult to get a working IDE for Scala?

    I recently gave up trying to use Scala in Eclipse (basic stuff like completion doesn't work). So now I'm trying IntelliJ. I'm not getting very far. This was the original error. See below for update: Scala signature Predef has wrong version Expected 5.0 found: 4.1 in .... scala-library.jar I tried both versions 2.7.6 and 2.8 RC1 of scala-*.jar, the result was the same. JDK is 1.6.u20. UPDATE Today I uninstalled IntelliJ 9.0.1, and installed 9.0.2 Early Availability, with the 4/14 stable version of the Scala plug-in.
