  • Rails 3 routes and using GET to create clean URLs?

    - by Hard-Boiled Wonderland
    I am a little confused with the routes in Rails 3 as I am just starting to learn the language. I have a form generated here: <%= form_tag towns_path, :method => "get" do %> <%= label_tag :name, "Search for:" %> <%= text_field_tag :name, params[:name] %> <%= submit_tag "Search" %> <% end %> Then in my routes: get "towns/autocomplete_town_name" get "home/autocomplete_town_name" match 'towns' => 'towns#index' match 'towns/:name' => 'towns#index' resources :towns, :module => "town" resources :businesses, :module => "business" root :to => "home#index" So why when submitting the form do I get the URL: /towns?utf8=?&name=townname&commit=Search So the question is how do I make that url into a clean url like: /towns/townname Thanks, Andrew

  • Python Loop for mysql statement

    - by user552974
    Hi, I have a project that i need to compile number of cities in each state and make an insert statement for mysql database. I think the easiest way to do it is via python but since i m a complete noob i would like to reach out all the python gurus here. Here is what the input looks like. Example below is for Florida. cities = ['Boca Raton', 'Boynton Beach', 'Bradenton', 'Cape Coral', 'Deltona'] and this what the output should be. INSERT INTO `oc_locations` (`idLocation`, `name`, `idLocationParent`, `friendlyName`) VALUES (1, 'Florida', 0, 'Florida'), (2, 'Boca Raton', 1, 'Boca Raton'), (3, 'Boynton Beach', 1, 'Boynton Beach'), (4, 'Bradenton', 1, 'Bradenton'), (5, 'Cape Coral', 1, 'Cape Coral'), (6, 'Deltona', 1, 'Deltona'), If you look at carefully the "idLocationParent" for "Florida" value is "0" so which means it is a top level value. This will be done for 50 states so ability to plug the state name into the mysql statement would be icing on the cake if there is a easy way to do it. Also alphabetical order and auto increment for the idLocation would be great. Here is an example of what i m trying to achieve concatenation is the part i need to figure out. for city in cities: print (1, 'city', 0, 'city'), city

  • ASP Force Download

    - by Thomas Clayson
    In PHP I can do: header("Content-type: application/octet-stream") and then anything that I output is downloaded instead of showing in the browser. Is there a similar way to do this in ASP? I have seen about all the file streaming and such using ADODB.Stream, but that doesn't seem to work for me and always requires another file to load the content from. Bit of an ASP noob, so go easy on me. :p All I want to do is have a script that outputs a CSV and that will force download instead of showing in the browser. Thanks EDIT here is my script currently: reportingForce.aspx.vb Public Class reportingForce Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Dim FStream Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Response.Buffer = True Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream" Response.AddHeader("Content-disposition", "attachment; filename=" & Chr(34) & "my output file.csv" & Chr(34)) Response.Write("1,2,3,4,5" & vbCrLf) Response.Write("5,6,7,8,9" & vbCrLf) End Sub End Class reportingForce.aspx Hello,World

  • iPhone toolbar shared by multiple views

    - by codemonkey
    Another iPhone noob question. The app I'm building needs to show a shared custom UIToolbar for multiple views (and their subviews) within a UITabBarController framework. The contents of the custom toolbar are the same across all the views. I'd like to be able to design the custom toolbar as a xib and handle UI events from its own controller class (I'm assuming I can subclass UIToolbar to do so?). That way I could define IBOutlet & IBAction items, etc. Then I could associate this custom toolbar with eachs of the UITabBarController views (and their subviews). But I'm having trouble finding out whether that's possible - and if so, how to do it. In particular, I want to be able to push new views onto UINavigationControllers that are each associated with parent UITabBarController tabs. So, to summarize, I want a: custom toolbar shared by multiple views which are managed by multiple navigation controllers and the navigation controllers are associated with different tabs of a parent tab bar controller The tab bar controller itself is launched modally, though I don't believe that's relevant. Anyway, the tab bar controller is working, as are its child navigation controllers. I'm just having a little trouble figuring out how to persist the shared toolbar to the various subviews. I'd settle for a good clean way of implementing programmatically... though I'd prefer the flexibility of keeping the toolbar's visual design in a xib. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • routing difficulty

    - by user281180
    Part of my application maps resources stored in a number of locations onto web URLs like this: http://servername/Issue.aspx/Details?issueID=1504/productId=2345 Is it possible to construct an MVC route that matches this so that I get the path in its entirety passed into my controller? Either as a single string or possibly as an params style array of strings. In my Global.aspx I have routes.MapRoute( "Issue", "Issue/{Details}", new { controller = "Issue", action = "Details" }, new { issueId = @"\d+", productId = @"\d+" } ); I have tried the code RouteValueDictionary parameters = new RouteValueDictionary { {"Controller", "Issue"},{ "action", "Details" }, { "issueId", Test.ID }, {"productId", Test.Project.ID} }; VirtualPathData vpd = RouteTable.Routes.GetVirtualPath(null, parameters); var test = vpd.VirtualPath; test value is /Issue.aspx/Details?issueId=1504&productId=3625. How to generate URLs Using ASP.NET Routing and sends it to users and they should be able to open the page by clicking on the generated link. However, here the servername isn`t included. How can I have the servername with the the link as http://servername/Issue.aspx/Details?issueID=1504/productId=2345

  • Internal loop only runs once, containing loop runs endlessly

    - by Mark
    noob question I'm afraid. I have a loop that runs and rotates the hand of a clock and an internal loop that checks the angle of the hand if it is 90, 180, 270 and 360. On these 4 angles the corresponding div is displayed and its siblings removed. The hand loops and loops eternally, which is what I want, but the angle check only runs the loop once through the whole 360. As the hand passes through the angles it is correctly displaying and removing divs but is doesn't continue after the first revolution of the clock. I've obviously messed up somewhere and there is bound to be a more efficient way of doing all this. I am using jQueryRotate.js for my rotations. Thanks for your time. jQuery(document).ready(function(){ var angle = 0; setInterval(function(){ jQuery("#hand").rotate(angle); function movehand(){ if (angle == 90) { jQuery("#intervention").fadeIn().css("display","block").siblings().css("display","none"); } else if (angle == 180) { jQuery("#management").fadeIn().css("display","block").siblings().css("display","none"); } else if (angle == 270) { jQuery("#prevention").fadeIn().css("display","block").siblings().css("display","none"); } else if (angle == 360) { jQuery("#reaction").fadeIn().css("display","block").siblings().css("display","none"); } else {movehand;} }; movehand(); angle+=1; },10); });

  • mongoose updating a field in a MongoDB not working

    - by Masiar
    I have this code var UserSchema = new Schema({ Username: {type: String, index: true}, Password: String, Email: String, Points: {type: Number, default: 0} }); [...] var User = db.model('User'); /* * Function to save the points in the user's account */ function savePoints(name, points){ if(name != "unregistered user"){ User.find({Username: name}, function(err, users){ var oldPoints = users[0].Points; var newPoints = oldPoints + points; User.update({name: name}, { $inc: {Points: newPoints}}, function(err){ if(err){ console.log("some error happened when update"); } else{ console.log("update successfull! with name = " + name); User.find({Username: name}, function(err, users) { console.log("updated : " + users[0].Points); }); } }); }); } } savePoints("Masiar", 666); I would like to update my user (by finding it with its name) by updating his/her points. I'm sure oldPoints and points contain a value, but still my user keep being at zero points. The console prints "update successful". What am I doing wrong? Sorry for the stupid / noob question.   • issues using facebook iphone api to post image and text

    - by Joey
    I have been trying to use the facebook iphone api to publish an image and some text from my app (i.e. using FBRequest call:@"facebook.stream.publish" with the appropriate params. I've found that the behavior is extremely erratic, as it first worked fine when I implemented it, then, completely stopped working (the request would fail and nothing would show up), and now sometimes posts only the text and most of the time posts only the image in a gallery style (returning a failure). I've read that it's something broken on Facebook's side, however, I see other people's games posting things periodically with images and text and wonder if I might be doing something fundamentally different that is much less reliable or stable. Has anyone encountered such an issue or has more familiarity with this?

  • Including associations optimization in Rails

    - by Vitaly
    Hey, I'm looking for help with Ruby optimization regarding loading of associations on demand. This is simplified example. I have 3 models: Post, Comment, User. References are: Post has many comments and Comment has reference to User (:author). Now when I go to the post page, I expect to see post body + all comments (and their respective authors names). This requires following 2 queries: select * from Post -- to get post data (1 row) select * from Comment inner join User -- to get comment + usernames (N rows) In the code I have: Post.find(params[:id], :include => { :comments => [:author] } But it doesn't work as expected: as I see in the back end, there're still N+1 hits (some of them are cached though). How can I optimize that?

  • ActionController::RoutingError

    - by Steve
    Hi All, I am just learning Rails. I had encountered a routing error, though I think I have specified the correct rules in the routing.rb. I have attached the code. • create_function with default parameter values?

    - by SoLoGHoST
    Ok, I'm looking into using create_function for what I need to do, and I don't see a way to define default parameter values with it. Is this possible? If so, what would be the best approach for inputting the params into the create_function function in php? Perhaps using addslashes? Well, for example, I have a function like so: function testing($param1 = 'blah', $param2 = array()) { if($param1 == 'blah') return $param1 else { $notblah = ''; if (count($param2) >= 1) { foreach($param2 as $param) $notblah .= $param; return $notblah; } else return 'empty'; } } Ok, so how would I use create_function to do the same thing, adding the parameters and their default values? The thing is, the parameters are coming from a TEXT file, as well as the function itself. So, wondering on the best approach for this using create_function and how exactly the string should be parsed. Thanks :)

  • Saving ntext data from SQL Server to file directory using asp

    - by April
    A variety of files (pdf, images, etc.) are stored in a ntext field on a MS SQL Server. I am not sure what type is in this field, other than it shows question marks and undefined characters, I am assuming they are binary type. The script is supposed to iterate through the rows and extract and save these files to a temp directory. "filename" and "contenttype" are given, and "data" is whatever is in the ntext field. I have tried several solutions: 1) data.SaveToFile "/temp/"&filename, 2 Error: Object required: '????????????????????' ??? 2) File.WriteAllBytes "/temp/"&filename, data Error: Object required: 'File' I have no idea how to import this, or the Server for MapPath. (Cue: what a noob!) 3) Const adTypeBinary = 1 Const adSaveCreateOverWrite = 2 Dim BinaryStream Set BinaryStream = CreateObject("ADODB.Stream") BinaryStream.Type = adTypeBinary BinaryStream.Open BinaryStream.Write data BinaryStream.SaveToFile "C:\temp\" & filename, adSaveCreateOverWrite Error: Arguments are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another. 4) Response.ContentType = contenttype Response.AddHeader "content-disposition","attachment;" & filename Response.BinaryWrite data response.end This works, but the file should be saving to the server instead of popping up save-as dialog. I am not sure if there is a way to save the response to file. Thanks for shedding light on any of these problems!

  • How to handle duplicate values in d3.js

    - by Mario
    First I'm a d3.js noob :) How you can see from the title I've got a problem with duplicated data and aggregate the values is no option, because the name represent different bus stops. In this example maybe the stops are on the fron side and the back side of a building. And of course I like to show the names on the x-axis. If i created an example and the result is a bloody mess, see jsFiddel. x = index name = bus stop name n = value I've got a json e.g.: [{ "x": 0, "name": "Corniche St / Abu Dhabi Police GHQ", "n": 113 }, { "x": 1, "name": "Corniche St / Nation Towers", "n": 116 }, { "x": 2, "name": "Zayed 1st St / Al Khalidiya Public Garden", "n": 146 }, ... { "x": 49, "name": "Hamdan St / Tariq Bin Zeyad Mosque", "n": 55 }] The problem: It is possible that the name could appear more then once e.g. { "x": 1, "name": "Corniche St / Nation Towers", "n": 116 } and { "x": 4, "name": "Corniche St / Nation Towers", "n": 105 } I like to know is there a way to tell d3.js not to use distinct names and instead just show all names in sequence with their values. Any ideas or suggestions are very welcome :) If you need more information let me know. Thanks in advanced Mario

It's the same problem like this, but in rails.

  • Javascript appending onload to a popup window

    - by Hypnotic Meat
    I'm trying to append an onload event to a popup window in the following manner: var explorerWindow = window.open(PARAMS...); explorerWindow.onload = function() {window.opener.unlockObj(id);} The idea is to make the button that generates the popup window readonly, making it usable again once the popup window has loaded all of its contents. However, the event doesn't seem to be firing at all. I even changed it to the following and got nothing: explorerWindow.onload = function() {alert("bloop");} Is there something terribly wrong with my syntax or am I missing something else entirely? Also, I'm using JQuery if there are any appropriate gems there that will help in this situation. I tried the following with similar results, but I'm not so sure I got the call right: $(explorerWindow).load(function() {alert("bloop");}); Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Can't find momd file: Core Data problems

    - by thekevinscott
    Aw geez! I screwed something up! I'm a Core Data noob, working on my first iOS app. After much Stack Overflowing I'm using this code: NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"CoreData" ofType:@"momd"]; if (!path) { path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"CoreData" ofType:@"mom"]; } NSAssert(path != nil, @"Unable to find Resource in main bundle"); CoreData is the name of my app. I've tried to put in initial data into the app by finding the path to the sqlite file in my iPhone simulator, and then going and inserting into that sqlite file. But at some point, I moved the sqlite (thinking it would create a fresh copy), deleted the app from the simulator, and the sqlite file is gone. I'm not sure if I'm leaving out some part of the process (this was a few hours ago) but the end result is that everything is screwed up. How do I resubstantiate this sqlite / momd file? "Clean" and "Clean all targets" are grayed out. I'm happy to post the relevant code from my app that would help shed some light on this problem but there's tons of code relating to Core Data which I don't understand, so I'm not sure what part to post! Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • acts-as-taggable-on: find tags with name LIKE, sort by tag_counts?

    - by James
    Hi I'm using the rails plugin acts-as-taggable-onand I'm trying to find the top 5 most used tags whose names match and partially match a given query. When I do User.skill_counts.order('count DESC').limit(5).where('name LIKE ?', params[:query]) This return the following error: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: SQLite3::SQLException: ambiguous column name: name: SELECT tags.*, COUNT(*) AS count FROM "tags" INNER JOIN users ON users.id = taggings.taggable_id LEFT OUTER JOIN taggings ON tags.id = taggings.tag_id AND taggings.context = 'skills' WHERE (taggings.taggable_type = 'User') AND (taggings.taggable_id IN(SELECT users.id FROM "users")) AND (name LIKE 'asd') GROUP BY tags.id, tags.name HAVING COUNT(*) > 0 ORDER BY count DESC LIMIT 5 But when I do User.skill_counts.first.name this returns "alliteration" I'd appreciate any help on this matter.

  • will_paginate without use of activerecord

    - by truthSeekr
    I apologize if this is a trivial question or my understanding of rails is weak. I have 2 actions in my controller, index and refine_data. index fetches and displays all the data from a database table. refine_data weeds out unwanted data using regex and returns a subset of the data. Controller looks like: def index Result.paginate :per_page => 5, :page => params[:page], :order => 'created_at DESC' end def refine_data results = Result.all new_results = get_subset(results) redirect_to :action => 'index' end I would like to redirect the refine_data action to the same view (index) with new_results. As new_results are not from the database table (or model), how do I go about constructing my paginate?

  • Asp.net Report Viewer - Custom filter parameters

    - by Chris
    Hi all, for a data warehouse project I need to know about some best practices regarding custom report viewer filters/parameters. Usually I use the standard parameter feature for reports, like multiple select boxes, check boxes, text boxes etc.. But for the current project some reports require more complex report parameters. E.g. a user wants to analyze some measures. For that the user needs to set a filter on a specific address. There are over 100.000 address to choose from, so he has to have the ability to search for an address (full text). Since such features cannot be done with the standard parameters, I will have to create custom params within a ASPX page which are then passed to the report viewer control. So my question is: Are there any best practices on how to create custom parameters? Did anyone had similar problems, if so, how did you solve it?

  • Java data structure to use with Hibernate to store unknown number of parameters?

    - by Lunikon
    Following problem: I want to render a news stream of short messages based on localized texts. In various places of these messages I have to insert parameters to "customize" them. I guess you know what I mean ;) My question probably falls into the "Which is the best style to do it?" category: How would you store these parameters (they may be Strings and Numbers that need to be formatted according to Locale) in the database? I'm using Hibernate to do the ORM and I can think of the following solutions: build a combined String and save it as such (ugly and hard to maintain I think) do some kind of fancy normalization and and make every parameter a single row on the database (clean I guess, but a performance nightmare) Put the params into an Array, Map or other Java data structure and save it in binary format (probably causes a lot of overhead size-wise) I tend towards option #3 but I'm afraid that it might be to costly in terms of size in the database. What do you think?

Out of interest, is there any way to use the params keyword with Action<? Also, I am using C# 4.0 so I would be interested to see how it can help me in an way. Thanks

  • Refactoring routes - serving different layouts

    - by dmclark
    As a Rails NOOB, I started with a routes.rb of: ActionController::Routing::Routes.draw do |map| map.resources :events map.connect 'affiliates/list', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "list" map.connect 'affiliates/regenerate_thumb/:id', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "regenerate_thumb" map.connect 'affiliates/state/:id.:format', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "find_by_state" map.connect 'affiliates/getfeed', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "feed" map.resources :affiliates, :has_many => :events map.connect ":controller/:action" map.connect '', :controller => "affiliates" map.connect ":controller/:action/:id" map.connect ":controller/:action/:id/:format" end and i'm trying to tighten it up. and I've gotten as far as: ActionController::Routing::Routes.draw do |map| map.resources :events, :only => "index" map.resources :affiliates do |affiliates| affiliates.resources :has_many => :events affiliates.resources :collection => { :list => :get, :regenerate_thumb => "regenerate_thumb" } end # map.connect 'affiliates/regenerate_thumb/:id', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "regenerate_thumb" map.connect 'affiliates/state/:id.:format', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "find_by_state" map.connect 'affiliates/getfeed', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "feed" map.root :affiliates end what is confusing to me is routes vs parameters.. For example, I realized that the only difference between list and index is HOW it is rendered, rather than WHAT is rendered. Having a different action (as I do now) feels wrong but I can't figure out he right way. Thanks
