• How can I disable my laptop's built-in keyboard?

  I have a HP Compaq Presario C700 laptop with Windows 7 installed on it. My laptop's keyboard is not working properly; some keys never work and some keys will keep on pressing. I've formatted the OS but it didn't solve my problem. I bought an external USB keyboard and it works well. As some keys in the built-in keyboard activate themselves, I still couldn't work effectively. After searching Google I tried the following steps to disable the built-in keyboard: Disabled keyboard drivers: This didn't work because when the system reboots, the driver gets installed again automatically. Installed irrelevant driver for keyboard: This failed - I couldn't install the driver. After rebooting it installed the correct driver automatically. Can anyone help explain how I can temporarily uninstall my built-in keyboard? I don't want to remove it manually (removing the hardware cable).

  I recently purchased an Intel D2700 MUD motherboard and I cannot find drivers for the Win7 x64 integrated graphics (Intel GMA 3650 aka PowerVR sgs545). The accompanying CD contains Win7 x32 version only. When I run it I got an error: This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. I tried to use online utility Intel Driver Update Utility Graphics. I used Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer without success. First, UAC prompt appear, and then endlessly spinning progress-bar with text "Analyzing computer...". The text in UAC prompt is: Program file name: System Requirements Lab Verified publisher: Husdawg, LLC I downloaded this utility (intel_srldetect_4.5.5.0) and started it from my hard disk. I got an error: A network error occured while attempting to read from the file: C:\Users\Loom\Downloads\SystemRequirementsLab_intel_4.5.5.0.msi Standard VGA driver works for this video card but without hardware acceleration: Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on. Where I can get appropriate driver?

  I have a Dell XPS 420. I've installed Windows 7 RTM (x64) I have this audio device: SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio I have tried using the windows 7 basic driver, and also the Vista 64-bit driver from Dell's website (details): Date: 10/29/2007 Version: 6.10.0.5511, A04 File Size: 7 MB With both drivers, I get normal stereo sound from the driver, but my 5.1 surround sound doesn't work. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a fix?

• Computer Won't Boot Properly, unless in safe mode?

  I bought a computer today and booted it up, but when I did I only got a blank screen. I checked to make sure it wasn't the monitor by connecting it to my old computer...it worked. I then tried connecting my monitor to both DVI ports and found that the bottom one did work. However, now it just boots up and says "loading windows" and then when the login screen is suppose to come up the screen just goes blank and monitor says "no input, check cord" (or something like that). I tried reinstalling windows and then I was able to log on normally. I used the CD's and reinstalled all the drivers, then rebooted...now I am stuck right back where I started. I tried taking out the RAM and inserting into different slots, that didn't fix anything. I was able to boot up into windows using safe-mode. I suspected that my ATI Radeon 6950 was the issue and downloaded the drivers, but I can't install them on safe-mode. Someone said to install C++ distr. and I tried doing that to fix driver installation problem of "failed to load detection driver" but it wouldn't let me do that either. Please someone help me, I don't want to have to deal with the evil redtape of sending it back to get a replacement! • How can I have a Windows 7 VMware guest without mouse support?

  Despite having vmmouse.present = "FALSE" mouse.vusb.absDisabled = "TRUE" pref.motionUngrab = "FALSE" in my .vmx file and a customized VMware Tools installation on the guest that does not include the mouse driver, I somehow have fully integrated mouse support for my Windows 7 VM. I can smoothly mouse from the host into the guest without needing to click or Ctrl+G in and Ctrl+Alt out. I don't want this because of the issues it causes with games. How can I get the VM to have no special mouse support while still having VMware Tools installed for its other functions (network, graphics, etc.)? The mouse works as I want without VMware Tools but not otherwise — again, despite not installing the mouse driver and having all those settings trying to disable it. Device Manager shows that the generic Windows PS/2 mouse driver is being used and not the virtual mouse driver. Guest and host are both Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, x86 and x64 respectively. I'm using VMware Player 3.1.4 and the VMware Tools installed is the latest, 8.4.6.16648.

  I have a Logitech webcam, which I can plug into my Windows XP machine via USB. When I open the Device Manager, I can select the webcam and choose Properties--Driver--Driver Details. This gives me the following list of driver filenames: C:\Program Files\Common Files\logishrd\WUApp32.exe [25 more filenames...] C:\WINDOWS\TWAIN_32\QuickCam\reset.wav My question is, is there any way to copy this list to the clipboard? Copying it by hand is a drag.

• Dell Vostro 3500 battery life remaining missing from Windows 8?

  On Windows 7 a Vostro 3500 laptop shows the battery life remaining, while on Windows 8 this information appears to be missing. The percentage is still available, but the life remaining is missing. How is battery life remaining calculated and does this require some level of driver support? Is it a standardized interface? Does anybody know which driver is responsible for handling this feature? I want to force the old Windows 7 driver, but I don't know which driver does battery remaining.

  Is there a device, that works without a driver, you just connect it as usb, and receive any signal sent to it as if it were COM Port wired connection? For example, such a device that gets data sent to it by Wi-Fi network or Bluetooth and resends it to the USB. Of course it has to be set up once (network name, password etc) and for this purpose you need a driver, but once it is set up, you can use it at any computer without a driver. I have a Bluetooth USB, but I think it can't work without a driver. By just connecting it to any computer you can't find it in device list on another bluetooth device (as phone, etc).

• Getting the keyboard working on a MacBook under Windows XP x64

  Despite Windows XP Professional x64's unsupported status on MacBooks (model A1181), I've managed to get most of the hardware working by manually installing either the drivers on the OS X Snow Leopard CD, or finding the appropriate drivers online. However, even after installing the Apple keyboard driver from the CD, I can't get Windows to actually use the special driver. Instead, the keyboard just shows up as a generic USB keyboard, with non-functioning Fn and other special keys. Being unable to generate a right-click or Ctrl-Alt-Del makes Windows a bit of a challenge to use. I've tried: uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard driver removing the keyboard under device manager and letting Windows re-detect it using device manager to manually update the driver How do I get the special functions of the MacBook keyboard working under XP x64?

• Issues with new graphics card and drivers

  With my onboard graphics card (Intel HD 4000) I was able to use 1680x1050 screen resolution. Using the same screen and an Asus ENGTS250 graphics card with 296.10 drivers installed, I'm not able to use that resolution anymore. Also, I've been having other trouble with driver installations. Using 340.52 or 337.88, I can't boot into Windows 7. I see the Windows Welcome screen and then the screen goes black, loses signal and the computer locks up. I think the drivers issues and the resolution problems go hand-in-hand. I have a feeling I could use a newer driver than 296.10 which would give me access to use the 1680x1050 resolution I want to use, but I'm terrified that if I update or install another driver, that the computer will lock up again. Can anyone recommend a [better] driver for me to use?

• Windows 7 unidentified network (or limited access) after hibernate.

  My windows 7 network will show limited access or unidentified network after coming up from hibernation. In the office I normally use LAN connection, I turn-off my wireless card (DELL Latitude has on/off switch for the wireless card). When I back at home I will turn on the wireless card, but it will take about 15 seconds to detect my home WIFI and then show limited access. I will have to restart the notebook and it will be able to connect to my WIFI and internet. The problem will be solved if I restart the notebook, but that defeats the purpose of hibernation doesn't it? I have tried uninstalling the wireless card driver but still does not solve it. I also tried updating my network card driver but windows says I am using the latest driver. On support.dell.com also showing I am using the latest driver.

• How to install Radeon 3670 HD graphics drivers for Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit with OpenGL 2.0 support?

  I've been having trouble with getting graphics drivers to work that support OpenGL 2.0. I've had some luck with the Ubuntu drivers, however these only support OpenGL 1.3. I thought I would document the methods that I have tried both to see if anyone else has ideas, and to save time for people with a similar problem. System details: Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) 64 bit Kernel Linux 2.6.32-44-generic GNOME 2.30.2 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670 Attempted Methods The methods I have tried are: 1. Installing Proprietary Drivers using the "Hardware Drivers" (Jockey) GUI This GUI offers an "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver" however any attempts to install it result in a "Sorry, installation of this driver failed" error. The log file is here. There is an Ask Ubuntu question that covers this scenario, and notes that there is a known bug with Jockey. 2. Installing the Proprietary Drivers manually The answer to the question above linked to this wiki page, which gives instructions for installing Catalyst 12.6. This supported hardware list states that the 3670 is not supported in 12.6, and 12.4 must be used. This is somewhat confusing, as AMD's website suggests that the 12.6 driver should be installed for the 3670. There have been user reports that R600 (the GPU inside the 3670 card) doesn't work with 12.6, so I'm sticking with 12.4. I'm following these instructions to install the proprietary drivers on Lucid. I downloaded the 12.4 driver from the AMD website. Building the package worked fine, generating the fglrx, fglrx-dev, fglrx-amdcccle, and fglrx-modaliases deb packages successfully. • Windows expand over 2 monitors in quad-monitor setup

  i just installed ubuntu 11.10 with my previous hardware setup: 4 monitors and 2 identical nvidia graphic cards. draging windows around all 4 monitors works nice, but when i maximize a window it expand always over 2 screens.   I've got an HTPC that I built myself, with a Asus P5G41T-M Motherboard. It's got an on-board HDMI port, and I've been using that with no problems. I started out with Mythbuntu ( an older version ), and recently updated to 12.04.1 LTS without any issues. I've been thinking about trying out XBMC for a while, and I decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, I seem to be running into quite a few issues. I got XBMC installed from the repos without any issues, but when I try to run it from a console, a box pops up with the following: XBMC needs hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering. Install an appropriate graphics driver. • Linux Mint Maya Freezes

  Linux Mint freezes after a couple of seconds the desktop loads, in a way that I have to shut the power in order to reboot; the mouse doesn't move, ctrl+alt+f1 doesn't do anything and I think even the hard disk stops. This doesn't happen every start but when it does happen, I have to start recovery mode and run the option "dpkg", the description is "repair broken packages" or something like that. If I don't do that and start the system normally the samething happens again. I have some clues that might help: The first time I installed Mint I had to install my wireless driver manualy. The system didn't freeze before this but since I installed the driver immediately after the Mint installation that might just easily be a coincidence. Even so after I discovered the dpkg trick, for the first couple of times I did it, I found my wireless driver uninstalled and I had to reinstall it. The thing is I can't be sure that the problem is my wireless driver because the relation is not direct enough.   I'm currently evaluating alternatives to refactor a drivermanagement. In my multitier architecture I have Baseclass DAL.Device //my entity Interfaces BL.IDriver //handles the dataprocessing between application and device BL.IDriverCreator //creates an IDriver from a Device BL.IDriverFactory //handles the driver creation requests Every specialization of Device has a corresponding IDriver implementation and a corresponding IDriverCreator implementation. At the moment the mapping is fix via a type check within the business layer / DriverFactory. That means every new driver needs a) changing code within the DriverFactory and b) referencing the new IDriver implementation / assembly. On a customers point of view that means, every new driver, used or not, needs a complex revalidation of their hardware environment, because it's a critical process. My first inspiration was to use a caliburn micro like nameconvention see Caliburn.Micro: Xaml Made Easy BL.RestDriver BL.RestDriverCreator DAL.RestDevice After receiving the RestDevicewithin the IDriverFactory I can load all driver dlls via reflection and do a namesplitting/comparing (extracting the xx from xxDriverCreator and xxDevice) Another idea would be a custom attribute (which also leads to comparing strings). My question: is that a good approach above layer borders? If not, what would be a good approach?

• 12.04.1 no audio through HDMI

  having a bit of an issue with getting audio to go through HDMI. Here are the base specs: OS: Ubuntu Desktop 12.04.1 x64 CPU: AMD A10-5800K 3.8G 4M FM2 R Mobo: MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 OS: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Vid Card: (integrated on CPU) AMD Radeon HD 7660D HDMI sound works fine under Win7 (after mobo and vid drivers are installed), so it's not physically broken. Audio through the normal headphone jacks works fine under Ubuntu. Looking at the audio panel, there is no HDMI output at all. aplay -l also reports only: card 0: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 0: ALC887-VD Analog [ALC887-VD Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 In additional drivers there are two versions: ATI/AMD PROPRIETARY FGLRX GRAPHICS DRIVER ATI/AMD PROPRIETARY FGLRX GRAPHICS DRIVER (post-release update) The first installs, but problem persists. I do get more resolutions to pick from. Second version does not, reporting it failed installation and to find details at: /var/log/jockey.log Looked at the log, and it's insanely long, if necessary I can get it to you guys. Did more research and some had luck by manually installing the drivers, so tried to give that a shot by following this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#Manually_installing_Catalyst_12.6 starting at 3.1 Manually installing Catalyst 12.6. I immediately had 2 issues, (1) the AMD website does not provide any drivers for Linux, and (2) the following command did not work: sudo sh amd-driver-installer-12-6-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/precise sh: 0: Can't open amd-driver-installer-12-6-x86.x86_64.run Some other posts stated to update "alsa-drivers", but that also did not work as install command for the new version of them did not work. I forget the exact issue, but similar to above, cannot open / cannot find. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• OWB 11gR2 &ndash; JDBC Helper Utility

  One of the common queries when importing the tables via JDBC with 11gR2 is determining why the import wizard doesn’t display the tables that you think it should. I often just use the script below to dump out the schemas, tables and columns that the JDBC driver is returning. This is useful in a few areas; to figure out what the schema name is returned to double check with the schema name you have used in the location (this is used in the DatabaseMetaData.getTables API call within the basic JDBC metadata import. to figure out the data types returned from the JDBC driver when you see columns skipped because of no datatype supported messages. also…I can do it via scripting and don’t need to recompile classes and stuff :-) Edit the tcl script and set the JDBC driver, the connection URL and the username and password (they are at the bottom of the script), the script then calls a basic tcl procedure which writes to standard out the schemas, tables and columns with various properties. For example I executed it using the XML JDBC driver from ODI over a simple customers XML file and it writes the following metadata; You can add more details as you need and execute from the OMBPlus panel within OWB. • How can I set external monitor as default?

  I have connected an external monitor to my laptop through HDMI. Currently either my Desktop is getting extended to the external monitor (with native resolution) or low resolution on both when I choose "Same Image in both". How can I ensure that the external monitor is used by default and the laptop monitor just blanks. • Installing the AMD Proprietary Drivers broke my 12.10 desktop

  I decided to download and install the AMD Legacy Catalyst driver 12.6 from AMD's website. I ran the .run file and the GUI below in the second image appeared and I install it that way. On reboot, I saw the below first image, though I managed to open Firefox by Open the pictures by right click Open As. No windows, buttons, or launcher / environment. It took some time but I figured out how to remove the driver and got back to normal on the default open source drivers I had before. Purged the old drivers and reconfigured xorg to make sure. How should I be going about installing the AMD made drivers? Is it even compatible with Ubuntu 12.10 yet? And if so would I even need it for 3D heavy applications like Team Fortress 2, or other game applications? I didn't install Ubuntu just for Steam, I've been using it on and off for a few years. Valve has mentioned that they are working on graphics drivers with NVIDA, AMD, and Intel. Nvidia released their new driver on Steam Linux beta release. Is AMD supposed to also have a new driver coming out soon? I'm using an ATi Radeon HD 4850 1GB.
