  • Importing data and keeping ids and relationships

    I am working on cleaning up a mess that another programmer started. The created 2 identical databases for different locations but that obviously caused major issues. They are using cakePHP and there are quite a few relationships. I am pretty sure I will have to write a script to import that data from on DB to the other and keep all the relationships but was wondering if there is an easier way to do it.

    I see what seems like a majority of Python developers on StackOverflow endorsing the use of concise functional tools like lambdas, maps, filters, etc., while others say their code is clearer and more maintainable by not using them. What is your preference? Also, if you are a die-hard functional programmer or hardcore into OO, what other specific programming practices do you use that you think are best for your style? What I want to do/test is (not sure if its recommendable or doable?), we know that System.out.println("Message"); will output the "Message" in command prompt. Is it possible to display the current time, without having to repeatly use the system.out.println()? Name, like instead of displaying: 10:00:01 10:00:02 10:00:03 I wand to have liek this: 10:00:0X where X will continue counting

  • What's the difference between $get and $find in JavaScript?

    Hi, I'm a .NET programmer who've just started to learn more about client side scripting, and I was wondering sometimes you use $get('value') and $find('value') and I've discovered that these are just shortcuts for document.getElementById('value') and Sys.Application.findComponent('value'), respectively. However, I still don't understand: what is the difference between these two functions in JavaScript? What exactly are they looking up/retrieving when invoked? Thanks in advance.

    The Visual C++ editor has a great feature which is that it underlines errors with a red line while typing the code. So for example, if you are using a variable that is not declared, it will underline it with a red curly line. In this way, the programmer can resolve a lot of errors while typing and doesn't have to wait for compiling for noticing them. Now my question is, is there any editor for Linux that has this great feature?

    I have this SQL by a programmer: $sql = " INSERT INTO `{$database}`.`table` ( `my_id`, `xType`, `subType`, `recordID`, `textarea` ) VALUES ( {$my_id}, ?xType, ?subType, {$recordID}, ?areaText ) "; My question is why is he using ? before values? How do I see what values are coming in? I did echo and it shows ?xType as ?xType. No values. What does ? stand for in SQL?
