• NAS4Free disk encryption and ZFS error

  I have installed a NAS4Free on a VM, and as recommended, i installed it on a 1GB virtual disk, and assigned another disk 500GB to this VM for file storage. I have created the disk, encrypted it, created a ZFS virtual disk, and then a ZFS storage pool. Everything was working. On every restart of this VM i needed to go on and mount the encrypted drive. Recently i upgraded the host machine, and now i cant mount or make it work. I have tried removing everything and setting up from scratch everything, with the exception of formating the disk, i have used an encrypted one without formating it. Does anybody have any suggestion on how can i at least get back my data, can i mount somehow the encrypted drive even in another utility, just need to get back the data that were on it.

  hi there i am running server 2003, and seem to have this problem where the server starts kicking out users after a while, especially when they log off, they cant log back in, or the printers on the metwork stop connecting and they cant print to it. when i check the server, i notice that the server has 2 IP addresses, even though it has a static IP, it seems to pick up another IP address as well, but when you go into teh IPV set up, its not there, but of you run the IP scan utility tool, it picks it up. to correct this, i either can log off the server, then log back in, and the IP disappears, or sometimes this doesnt work, and i need to restart the server, but thsi happens like every 2 days or so.....can anyone out there help?

  How do I test the changes to the pam.d configuration files: Do I need to restart the PAM service to test the changes? Should I go through every service listed in the /etc/pam.d/ directory? I'm about to make changes to the pam.d/common-* files in an effort to put an Ubuntu box into an active directory controlled network. I'm just learning what to do, so I'm preparing the configuration in a VM, which I plan to deploy in metal in the coming week. It is a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2 server, so other than SSH daemon, all other services are stock.

• Virus disturbing my audio

  i had a desktop.ini virus on my computer. I managed to get rid of it (i think) but now my Mcafee firewall will not stay on for more than 3 secs before it turns off again. Also something is freezing my computer for a few secs when a window is open, also my audio goes in and out when watching videos and listening to music.   I am trying to install a copy of Windows Server 2012 on two machines. Both machines go through the initial "Files loading" progress bar and get to the new Windows Server 2012 logo. However, the installation (on both machines) will immediately fail, and the machine will restart. I am trying to figure out if there's a way to display diagnostic information about the error before or after restarting, but Google is not helping me at all. Is there a key combination I can hit that will display an error log, perhaps?

• Website Upgrade - Avoid Downtime

  I have been requested to investigate how I can reduce the downtime of our website upgrades. We maintain a DNN site with both public facing pages and member only pages. The member only pages are directly linked to our core application database while the public pages are not. Our current process is to redirect website users as soon as the upgrade process begins, which includes Backup of the Prod DB Update Prod DB Update Executables (Application) Upgrade Website Application (If this requires an update) Install Dependencies Upgrade sub systems like communication engine and payment broker Update various configuration files Perform testing of systems Restart all services Allow access to site This process can take from 2 to 8 hours depending on upgrade required, scripts to be run, size of database and number or portals. My initial thoughts are to restrict users to read only pages and any update pages would be unavailable. Could anyone please offer suggestions as to the best practices for what I would think to be a common problem so that we can reduce this down time and if we need infrastructure changes, I can put this to our technical department.

  We were able to setup mysql master-slave replication with the following version on both master/slave: mysqld Ver 5.5.28-29.1-log for Linux on x86_64 (Percona Server (GPL), Release 29.1) One day, we noticed that replication has stopped, we tried skipping over the entries that caused the replication errors. The errors persisted so we decided to skip replication for the 4 problematic tables. The slave has now caught up with the master except for the 4 tables. What is the best way to enable replication again for the 4 tables? This is what I have in mind but I don't know if it will work: 1) Modify slave config to enable replication again for the 4 tables 2) stop slave replication 3) for each of the 4 tables, use pt-table-sync --execute --verbose --print --sync-to-master h=localhost,D=mydb,t=mytable 4) restart slave database to reload replication configuration 5) start slave replication

  I'm trying to add FTP access to the apache web files, in the past I have done this with an ftpuser and group arrangement. This time I would like to make it possible to login directly as www-data (the default apache user on debian) to make things a bit cleaner.   Alright, so today, I did something very stupid: Do an experement on my computer without backing it up. So I saw that the calander in windows could only go up to 12/31/2999 (or something like that). I was wondering if I set the time to 11:59:59 PM, if it would crash my computer, thinking that if I did I could just restart it from the recovery disc or something. Well, I was right: It did crash it. However, I can't turn my computer on AT ALL. When I try to, it plays a 1-2 second beep, 1 second silence, repeated a total of 3 times. My manufacturer is Dell. I'm sending this from my phone, I appolgise for all typos. My last backup was from a few months ago, that won't work.

• How to enable the php 5.4.x version on Mountain Lion

  I have installed the latest php version on my mountain lion system using these instructions (http://mac.tutsplus.com/tutorials/server/upgrading-the-native-php-installation-on-os-x-mountain-lion/). I even put /usr/local/bin first in my path variable, so when I run php -v at the command line I get php v5.4.x The problem is that when I run a simple script (with the phpinfo() function inside) the page tells me that I am running the old 5.3.x php version that comes pre-installed with mac os mountain lion. I even tried to restart apache, but the problem remains. Any ideas on this one? Thank you.

  I always Hibernate my PC. Sometimes when I boot, it does not recognize the mouse/keyboard or any USB devices. I've also setup it to go in sleep in 5 minutes. In that case I can't restart the PC so that USB starts working. When I press the Power button then it starts shutdown but asks confirmation twice, one is for shutdown by force confirmation and then there is one more. When my USB is disabled I can't input these options. So I switch off the power.   Why every change in Asus UX50v causes screen resolution get lost? Installing a new application, connecting to another wireless network, change some settings, ... causes this problem. For example after installing an application, UX50v needs to restart. And when it got restarted, resolution would be set to 640x480(or 600x800) and Hibernate and Sleep options are disappeared from shutdown menu! (I have other problems with this Asus UX50v crap too - like I can't update windows 7 because it crashes on Asus UX50v crap - but this one is absolutely ridiculous and stupid!)

• PHP crashing on occasion - APC error?

  Any thoughts on this? We've had this happen twice recently. Basically, every page throws a fatal error, fixed by an apache restart. Here's what's in the log, repeated over and over. • Php.ini: Local Value vs Master Value (safe_mode, specifically)

  I can change php.ini values on my Apache and restart to see them in effect via a script showing php_info(). However, one setting is causing problems: safe_mode. I set it to "off" in php.ini but php_info() still shows it as Local value: On Master value: Off How can I find out which local value is overriding the master value? There's no htaccess directive of that kind in the httpdocs folder in question... (I already downloaded all files php_info() claims to be additional .ini files parsed, but safe_mode is not set in them.)

• Why would the IIS UrlRewrite module continue redirecting requests after the rule is removed?

  Our application uses the IIS UrlRewrite module to temporarily redirect requests during upgrades to a maintenance site. We have seen a few instances where even though the redirect rule has been removed, the server continues to redirect all requests according to the removed rule. There does not seem to be any pattern with this, and has only occurred once or twice. We have taken the following steps to try and determine the cause of this behavior. Verified that the original rule was a 307 temporary redirect Requested the application from machines that had never requested it before Used a different browser Added and removed a dummy rule from the IIS management console Checked the http kernel cache using netsh http show cachestate Modified the applicationHost.config file by hand (the rule was not still in the file, we just added a superfluous space) In the past when this has happened, we have been able to restart IIS and it solves the problem but that is not always an option and we really want to figure out what the root cause is. How or why would UrlRewrite be caching the response and not responding to configuration changes?

  To run my web app, I need to set my timezone to UTC on my MacBook. I can do this temporarily by opening a Konsole and entering sudo ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/UTC /etc/localtime However, my timezone returns to normal when I restart my machine! Any advice? Edit : The response to this question by 'Celada' implies that I can just make my Server UTC. I am using Apache Tomcat 7. Adding to Celada's response, how can I make it UTC?

  My antivirus ( ESET) hanged some day ago, and that brought down its outlook plugin as a result. So when I tried to launch outlook, I would get a message, saying that outlook cannot launch. After I did this a few times, the outlook asked me whether agree to disable all the plugins, which I clicked yes. The problem now is that after I restart my pc, ESET is working fine, but the Outlook is no longer loading any of my plugins. Is there anyway to tell OUtlook to load the plugins?

• Can't start my Windows XP Virtual Machine: Insufficient Disk Space

  Okay, I currently have a server with two virtual machines installed on it, a CentOS5.4 and a Windows XP. I was remote desktopping the Windows XP chatting on IRC, and all of a sudden I lost connection. I checked with my HyperVisor and tried to restart it, and it won't start at all. It's giving me this error: Message from server0297.serverpool.gnet.ba: Failed to extend swap file (fileHandle 16414) from 0 KB to 524288 KB: No space left on device. Could not power on VM : No space left on device. Failed to power on VM info 4/17/2010 9:49:20 PM root Basically I bought the set up from a host, he installed the HyperVisor and the VirtualMachines, and honestly I don't really know what I'm doing. I've looked at some of the settings, and I can't figure it out. If you need any additional information, I'll try to provide it. The CentOS5.4 is still starting and working flawlessly, if that's relevant.

• Where is the Mac Divx Web Player 7 cache folder?

  Until recently, I was using Divx web player 1.4.2 because it seemed to be the least buggy. It was saving files in users/xxxxxx/movies/divx movies/temporary added files and was deleting them when the cache limit was reached. Now with 7, it's saving them alright cause I can watch my HD space go down, but I can't find them. And it's not respecting the cache limit size (mine is 4GB). The only way to clear up this space is a restart of the Mac. I'm running 10.6.8and Chrome. I've looked everywhere for the folder manually. Where is it?

• missing bootmanager after win7 installation from external hdd

  today i tried to install win7 from an external hdd to my system. i tried this tut http://www.pcworld.com/article/165159/install_windows_7_from_an_external_hard_drive.html and everything went fine till i pluged off the external hdd. after i pluged it off and tried to restart the system i get a missing boot manager error. if i plug the external hdd in again it's all working fine again. i've searched for the last 2h and didn't find a good answer. did any of you have one ? regards Alex ps: i already tried any forms of reperation and the system is installed on the correct hdd.

• In SASL authentication, are the messages between a particular client and server the same every time

  I wrote a test client and server using the Cyrus SASL library, and I'm manually forcing it to select GSSAPI as the mechanism. While debugging, I printed the md5sum of each message as it was passed between the two. I noticed that the sequence seems to be the same every time I connect. That is, if the message sequence on the first negotiation was clientMessage1, serverResponse1, clientMessage2, etc... to successful authentication, if I then restart my client, the same clientMessage1, serverResponse2, clientMessage2,etc... sequence is repeated. It seems to me like it would be a security concern. Is this the correct behavior and if so, should I be wrapping these communications in TLS or something?
