• Do jQuery and JavaScript have different namespaces?

  I have this code in jQuery.. $(document).ready(function(){ var fieldCounter = 0; ... I have a jQuery function that increments this value. This works, but I can't access this value on the page from a non-jQuery function? The reverse is also true, if I scope it in JavaScript e.g. <script type="text/javascript"> var fieldCounter = 0; I can access it from javascript but jQuery can't view it? I'm probably doing something really dumb?

• PCAP Web Service Usage Logging for Dummies

  I've been assigned the task (for work) of working with PCAP for the first time in my life. I've read through the tutorials and have hacked together a real simple capture program which, it turns out, isn't that hard. However, making use of the data is more difficult. My goal is to log incomming and outgoing web service requests. Are there libraries (C or C++) that stitch together the packets from PCAP that would make reporting on this simple? Baring that is there something short of reading all of the RFC's from soup to nuts that will allow me to have an "ah-ha!" moment (all of the tutorials seem to stop at the raw packet level which isn't useful for me)? It looks like PERL has a library that may do this and I may eventually attempt a reverse engineer from PERL. NOTE BENE: Web Server logs aren't acceptable here as I will be intercepting on a routing device. If I had access to those I'd be done and happy...I don't.

  I thought of a solution but it runs in O(n^2) time Algo 1: Steps: Its a brute force method Have 2 for loops for i = 1 to i less than array.length -1 for j=i+1 to j less than array.length This way you can get substring of every possible combination from the array Have a palindrome function which checks if a string is palindrome so for every substring (i,j) call this function, if it is a palindrome store it in a string variable If you find next palindrome substring and if it is greater than the current one, replace it with current one. Finally your string variable will have the answer Issues: 1. This algo runs in O(n^2) time. Algo 2: Reverse the string and store it in diferent array Now find the largest matching substring between both the array But this too runs in O(n^2) time Can you guys think of an algo which runs in a better time. • Convert mediawiki to LaTeX syntax

  I need to convert mediawiki into LaTeX syntax. The formulas should stay the same, but I need to transform, for example = something = into \chapter{something}. Although this can be obtained with a bit of sed, things get a little dirty with the itemize environment, so I was wondering if a better solution can be produced. Anything that can be useful for this task ? This is the reverse of this question (graciously copied). Pandoc was the answer to that question, but probably not yet for this.

• Haskell optimization of a function looking for a bytestring terminator

  Profiling of some code showed that about 65% of the time I was inside the following code. What it does is use the Data.Binary.Get monad to walk through a bytestring looking for the terminator. If it detects 0xff, it checks if the next byte is 0x00. If it is, it drops the 0x00 and continues. If it is not 0x00, then it drops both bytes and the resulting list of bytes is converted to a bytestring and returned. Any obvious ways to optimize this? • Obfuscate strings in Python

  I have a password string that must be passed to a method. Everything works fine but I don't feel comfortable storing the password in clear text. Is there a way to obfuscate the string or to truly encrypt it? I'm aware that obfuscation can be reverse engineered, but I think I should at least try to cover up the password a bit. At the very least it wont be visible to a indexing program, or a stray eye giving a quick look at my code. I am aware of pyobfuscate but I don't want the whole program obfuscated, just one string and possibly the whole line itself where the variable is defined. Target platform is GNU Linux Generic (If that makes a difference)

• How to render the properties of the view model's base class first when using ViewData.ModelMetadata.

  When I use the ViewData.ModelMetadata.Properties in order to loop the properties (with an additional Where(modelMetadata => modelMetadata.ShowForEdit && !ViewData.TemplateInfo.Visited(modelMetadata))), and thereby create a generic edit view, the properties of the view model's base class are rendered last. Is it possible to use a clever OrderBy() or is there another way to first get the properties of the base class, and then the sub class'? Reverse won't do the trick since the ordering of each class' properties is perfectly fine. A workaround would of course be composition + delegation, but since we don't have mixins, it's too un-DRY IMHO, why I seek a better solution if possible.

• .NET How would I build a DAL to meet my requirments?

  Assuming that I must deploy an asp.net app over the following 3 servers: 1) DB - not public 2) 'middle' - not public 3) Web server - public I am not allowed to connect from the web server to the DB directly. I must pass through 'middle' - this is purely to slow down an attacker if they breached the web server. All db access is via stored procedures. No table access. I simply want to provide the web server with a ado dataset (I know many will dislike this, but this is the requirement). Using asmx web services - it works, but XML serialisation is slow and it's an extra set of code to maintain and deploy. Using a ssh/vpn tunnel so that the one connects to the db 'via' the middle server, seems to remove any possible benefit of maintaining 'middle'. Using WCF binary/tcp removes the XML problem, but still there is extra code. Is there an approach that provides the ease of ssh/vpn, but the potential benefit of having the dal on the middle server? • jQuery UI blind effect - reveal from bottom

  This could be really obvious and I'm completely missing it. I've searched for hours and can't seem to find a way to, using jQuery, reveal a hidden div from the bottom up. What I am trying to achieve is exactly as in the following link, but in reverse: http://jqueryui.com/demos/show/ I can slide a div from the bottom to the top, but this reveals itself as it moves, rather than being 'masked' in. Like I said, this could (should?) be really obvious and I'm not seeing it, but I've been looking for ages and can't find a solution to this relatively simple problem. Thanks, Ronnie

• Delphi Clientdataset Lookup/Aggregate

  Hi, I need a little help with ClientDatasets in Delphi. What I want to achieve is a grid showing customers, where one of the columns shows the number of orders for each customer. I put a ClientDataset on a form and load Customers.xml from Delphi demo-data. Another ClienDataset is loaded with orders.xml. Relatively simple, I can define an aggregate on the orders CDS showing the total amount per customer (or the count). (See Cary Jensens article on this: http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/29272) The problem is getting this aggregate result from orders dataset into the customer dataset. It is kind of an reverse lookup, since there is a 1-n relationship between customers and orders, not an n-1 as normally in lookup scenarios. Any ideas ? Søren

• Python: Remove items from a list while iterating in Python

  My problem is simple: I have a long list of elements that I want to iterate through and check every element against a condition. Depending on the outcome of the condition I would like to delete the current element of the list, and continue iterating over it as usual. I have read a few other threads on this matter. Two solutions seam to be proposed. Either make a dictionary out of the list (which implies making a copy of all the data that is already filling all the RAM in my case). Either walk the list in reverse (which breaks the concept of the alogrithm I want to implement). • Registry corrupted for testing?

  Hi. Forgive my ignorance. I'm a lowly LAMP stack developer and this is my first post for "c++". We had an Internet Explorer add-on commissioned but then lost support. Allegedly each version has to be have been tested "on a fresh computer since old add-ons could have cause registry errors." I'm not familiar with IE add-on development (or c++ dev). Is this common? Can't one simply reverse registry errors? How to continue testing iterations on one machine? Thanks!

• Eclipse CDT setup for remote build

  Is there a better way to setup Eclipse CDT for local editing and remote building? I am working on a C++ project that uses GNU make in Linux. The code is under CVS on a Linux server. When I'm in the lab, I use Eclipse CDT on a Linux-x64 PC. The project is built on a Linux-x86 PC. All the computers in the lab (including the CVS server) have NFS mounts. When I'm at home, I use Eclipse CDT on a Windows 7 PC. The Windows PC connects to the Linux CVS server via SSH tunnel. To edit source, I rsync the C++ project under the Linux Eclipse workspace back to my Windows Eclipse workspace. (I can also do a remote CVS checkout on the Windows PC.) To build from home, I use a custom build command that SSH's to the Linux-x86 PC, rsync's the C++ project from my Windows Eclipse workspace to my Linux Eclipse workspace, and then runs make on the Liunx-x86 PC, specifying the correct path for the Makefile. In order to go back and forth between lab and home without committing my changes to CVS every time, I use rsync. When I transition from lab to home, I rsync sources to my Windows Eclipse workspace. When I build from home, the sources get rsync'd back to the Linux Eclipse workspace. Is there a better, less wonky way to do this? (I'm NOT interested in remote debugging.)

• Draw text on a loaded pdf file with Zend Framework

  Hello, I'm trying to load a existing pdf file, and fill this with database information. Loading the file and everything is working, except for writing data to the loaded page. It doesn't write text to the loaded page. If I add a new page en use a foreach to apply drawing to all pages, all added pages are written, except for the loaded one.   Hey folks, I'm currently developing a site in Joomla, and one of the components I'm using makes use of a PHP file to administer the language. (english.php, spanish.php) The problem I'm having is that if I use the plain text version of eg. "á", it will show up in the browser tab title ok, but as a ? in the body of the page.   Hi, How do I make syncdb execute SQL queries (for table creation) defined by me, rather then generating tables automatically. I'm looking for this solution as some particular models in my app represent SQL-table-views for a legacy-database table. So, I've created their SQL-views in my django-DB like this: CREATE VIEW legacy_series AS SELECT * FROM legacy.series; I have a reverse engineered model that represents the above view/legacytable. But whenever I run syncdb, I have to create all the views first by running sql scripts, otherwise syncdb simply creates tables for them (if a view is not found). How do I make syncdb run the above mentioned SQL?

  I have a form (Quote) with an auto-number ID, on the form at the moment are two subforms that show different items (sub 1 shows partition modules sub 2 shows partition abutments) both forms use the same parts tables to build them. Both forms are linked to the quote form using the ID. All works well until the forms is refreshed or re-loaded, subform 1 shows the module names and quantities and blank spaces for the abutment names but shows the quantiews for the abutments, the reverse of this is shown in the abutments subform 2. When the lists for the variuos types and the detailed parts lists are printed they are correct. This seems to be only a visual problem. All based on Access 2003.   there is an iphone app called supercam and you can get it through the app store free. This app features a way to connect your webcam or dv cam that is connected on the internet, you could set up the ip address and enter the data on the app and it will connect to your online camera. the thing is that they have the video stream and it looks like they embedded the video in a uiview or webview at the bottom they have buttons to choose from all the cameras you have set up. so this is different from other video streaming apps because it does not play the video from the full screen mode (MPMediaPlayer API) would there be any tutorials about this or somehow take reverse engineer this?

• WPF EventRouting to Children

  Is there any way to broadcast a RoutedEvent to all of my children in WPF? For example lets say I have a Window that has 4 children. 2 of them know about the RoutedEvent 'DisplayYourself' and are listening for it. How can I raise this event from the window and have it sent to all children? I looked at RoutingStrategy and Bubble is the wrong direction, Tunnel and Direct don't work because I don't know which children I want to send this to. • Function that copies into byte vector reverses values

  Hey, I've written a function to copy any variable type into a byte vector, however whenever I insert something it gets inserted in reverse. Here's the code. template <class Type> void Packet::copyToByte(Type input, vector<uint8_t>&output) { copy((uint8_t*) &input, ((uint8_t*) &input) + sizeof(Type), back_inserter(output)); } Now whenever I add for example a uint16_t with the value 0x2f1f it gets inserted as 1f 2f instead of the expected 2f 1f.   Hi! I would like to ask you about what formal system could be more interesting to implement from scratch/reverse engineer. I've looked through some existing and rather open (open in the sense of free/open-source) projects of logical/declarative programming systems. I've decided to make up something similar in my free time, or at least to catch the general idea of implementation. It would be great if some of these systems would provide most of the expressive power and conciseness of modern academic investigations in logic and it's relation with computational models. What would you recommend to study at least at the conceptual level? For example, Lambda-Prolog is interesting particularly because it allows for higher order relations, but AFAIK (I might really be mistaken :)) is based on intuitionist logic and therefore lack the excluded-middle principle; that's generally a disatvantage for me.. I would also welcome any suggestions about modern logical programming systems which are less popular but more expressive/powerful. I guess, this question will need refactoring, but thank you in advance! :)

  Hi chaps, I've been researching how to interact with the MSN messenger / Live messenger service programmatically and I can't find any real documentation on this. The documentation for the Live services only seem to implement in Javascript (they're here: http://dev.live.com/Messenger/) It would be possible to reverse engineer this API to obtain the web services that it is actually using, but I am guessing that they didn't provide the sources for a reason (which means that those web services aren't meant for direct access). However I can't find any other official APIs that allow programmatic access (more specifically no APIs that mention sockets, web services, or a proper programming language like Java or .Net). Does anyone know if an API like that exists?

• Trying to establish remote debug with visual studio running inside vmpalyer

  i have this configuration a visual studio running inside virtual machine. the host machine has xp on it and so does the virtual machine. i have to run remote debug on the third machine which is connected to the host machine. i m currently facing this problem i m not able to ping my virtual machine from my host machine, however reverse is possible. how to resolve that? both my machine are on same workgroup (not domain, arent they both same?)

• jQuery click event to make a div slide down and push next div out of viewport

  I'm trying to figure out how to make jQuery slide #content2 down and replace content1 with it while making it look like #content1 is actually being pushed down by #content1 removing it from view... Then the same button that was clicked to make #content2 replace #content1 would also need to do the reverse effect by replacing #content2 with #content1 making them slide up and push each other out of the way...
