• Another floating point question

  I have read most of the posts on here regarding floating point, and I understand the basic underlying issue that using IEEE 754 (and just by the nature of storing numbers in binary) certain fractions cannot be represented. I am trying to figure out the following: If both Python and JavaScript use the IEEE 754 standard, why is it that executing the following in Python .1 + .1 Results in 0.20000000000000001 (which is to be expected) Where as in Javascript (in at least Chrome and Firefox) the answer is .2 However performing .1 + .2 In both languages results in 0.30000000000000004 In addition, executing var a = 0.3; in JavaScript and printing a results in 0.3 Where as doing a = 0.3 in Python results in 0.29999999999999999 I would like to understand the reason for this difference in behavior. In addition, many of the posts on OS link to a JavaScript port of Java's BigDecimal, but the link is dead. Does anyone have a copy?

• C++ Namespaces & templates question

  Hi! I have some functions that can be grouped together, but don't belong to some object / entity and therefore can't be treated as methods. So, basically in this situation I would create a new namespace and put the definitions in a header file, the implementation in cpp file. Also (if needed) I would create an anonymous namespace in that cpp file and put all additional functions that don't have to be exposed / included to my namespace's interface there. See the code below (probably not the best example and could be done better with another program architecture, but I just can't think of a better sample...) Sample code (header) namespace algorithm { void HandleCollision(Object* object1, Object* object2); } Sample code (cpp) #include "header" // Anonymous namespace that wraps // routines that are used inside 'algorithm' methods // but don't have to be exposed namespace { void RefractObject(Object* object1) { // Do something with that object // (...) } } namespace algorithm { void HandleCollision(Object* object1, Object* object2) { if (...) RefractObject(object1); } } So far so good. I guess this is a good way to manage my code, but I don't know what should I do if I have some template-based functions and want to do basically the same. If I'm using templates, I have to put all my code in the header file. Ok, but how should I conceal some implementation details then? Like, I want to hide RefractObject function from my interface, but I can't simply remove it's declaration (just because I have all my code in a header file)...   right now I have this line, and it worked until I had whitespace in the second field. svn status | grep '\!' | gawk '{print $2;}' > removedProjs is there a way to have awk print everything in $2 or greater? ($3, $4.. until we don't have anymore columns?) I suppose I should add that I'm doing this in a windows environment with cygwin.

  In zend framework I register my namespace like this (in application.php): 'autoloaderNamespaces' => array( 'Cms_' ) And after this - I'd expect that Zend would always check that path in addition to Zend and ZendX paths if unknown class is called. But for some reason this doesn't work with for example view helpers. I still have to register a separate path for my view helpers even though view helper scripts are named according to Zend coding standards and are located in: Cms/View/Helper/ And this is how I register helper path in config file: view' => array( 'charset' => 'UTF-8', 'doctype' => 'XHTML1_TRANSITIONAL', 'helperPath' => array( 'Cms_View_Helper_' => 'Cms/View/Helper' ) ), So - I'm not sure why I have to register "Cms" namespace twice first through 'autoloaderNamespaces' and then through View "helperPath"? Shouldn't Cms namespace include Cms/View/Helper namespace? can someone plz clarify this:)

• Access VBA question: Change the query being referenced by a function, depending on context

  I have a custom function in Access2007 that hinges on grabbing data out of a specific query. It opens Outlook, creates a new email and populates the fields with specific addresses and data taken from the query ("DecisionEmail"). Now I want to make a different query ("RequestEmail") and have it populate the email with that data. So all I have to do is change this line: Set MailList = db.OpenRecordset("DecisionEmail") and that's where I get stumped. This is my desired result: If the user is on Form_Decision and clicks the button "Send email", "DecisionEmail" will get plugged into the function and that data will appear in the email. If the user on Form_SendRequest and clicks the button "Send email", "RequestEmail" will instead get plugged in. The reason that these are different queries is because they contain very different information that is smudged about in different ways. However, since it's just one little thing that needs to change in the function code, I don't think a brand new function is a good idea. My last resort would be to make a brand new function and use the Conditions field in the Macro interface to choose between them, but I have a feeling there's a more elegant solution possible. I have a vague notion of setting the query names as variables and using an If statement but I just don't have the mental vocabulary for thinking through this.

  I'm using the twitter search API to get twitter posts based on some keywords, using AND and OR keyword. It works OK, but I seem to get problems using hashtags... For example : Not returning any results : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q="%23ipad+AND+%23ipod"+OR+"%23joke+AND+%23funny"&rpp=100&callback=? Returning results : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q="ipad+AND+ipod"+OR+"joke+AND+funny"&rpp=100&callback=? But there's results with #ipod AND #ipad because when I search only for #ipod, I can see a lot of posts with both hashtags. • Multi-threaded downloader in C# question

  Currently I have multi-threaded downloader class that uses HttpWebRequest/Response. All works fine, it's super fast, BUT.. the problem is that the data needs to be streamed while it's downloading to another app. That means that it must be streamed in the right order, the first chunk first, and then the next in the queue. Currently my downloader class is sync and Download() returns byte[]. In my async multi-threaded class I make for example, list with 4 empty elements (for slots) and I pass each index of the slot to each thread using the Download() function. That simulates synchronization, but that's not what I need. How should I do the queue thing, to make sure the data is streamed as soon as the first chunk start downloading.

  Hi. #include <stdio.h> main() { int a; for(a=1; a<=4 && printf("%d ",a); a++) { int a; static int b=a; printf("%d ",(a++)-b); } getchar(); getchar(); } In this code, the printout is 1 0 2 1 3 2 4 3. I understand why the int a; part works differently then the int a which was defined outside the for function, and why static int b; is only defined once with the primary value of a ; but why does the (a++) part in printf affect proceeding values of a? Don't we redefine int a; each time the for function runs? Thanks in advance.

  Hello everyone- In my C# Console App I'm trying to use Regex to search a string to determine if there is a match or not. Below is my code but it is not quite working right so I will explain further. sSearchString is set to "_One-Call_Pipeline_Locations" and pDS.Name is a filename it is searching against. Using the code below it is set to true for Nevada_One-Call_Pipeline_Locations and Nevada_One-Call_Pipeline_LocationsMAXIMUM. There should be a match for Nevada_One-Call_Pipeline_Locations But Not for Nevada_One-Call_Pipeline_LocationsMAXIMUM. How can I change my code to do this properly?
