    I am running the top command to see details about specific processes. The output is piped to grep like so: top -n 1 | grep jre The output is usually around 4 lines, and I would like to prefix the current time to each line so it would be something like: Before: 2772 deleteme 20 0 2832 1156 872 R 2.0 0.1 0:00.01 top After: 13:46 25-08-2012 2772 deleteme 20 0 2832 1156 872 R 2.0 0.1 0:00.01 top

  • Using dd command and running out of space while cloning drive to img

    I have a problem with drive cloning. Im using dd on damaged disk with bad sectors trying to make an image from it. Im booting computer with Live Linux CD . Damaged disk: sda 146GB (NTFS) External drive: sdb 300GB (NTFS) After running the command below im running out of space on disk sdb. dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb/hdd.img bs=4096 conv=noerror,sync The question is why im running out of space on disk sdb ?

  • Disable USB powered light from command line?

    I have a nice little USB light which has no off switch, it is 'on' for the duration of being plugged in. My question is, is there a way of disabling the USB port so as to turn off the light while it is still plugged in? Preferably, this could be done from the command line, but if it's possible at all that would be really cool regardless. I use Mac and Linux, but am interested to learn if this is possible in any OS, or if physical hardware prevents usage like this.

    I have written a stored procedure in MSSQL Server 2008 R2 which sends emails when my Application logs errors. It works fine on servers at our office but when I ran it on our remote servers I got must issue a starttls command first So maybe there is a setting somewhere which is different between the two servers, and that's why it's working on one and not the other. How do I set the server so that it issues a "starttls commaned first"?

I'm on a mac osx 10.7.2 Processor 2.26 GHz intel core 2 due I downloaded: mysql-5.5.18-osx10.6-x86_64.dmg I'm now at the point of setting the root password and when I type in: sudo: mysql_secure_installation it asks me to enter my password, then it says: sudo: mysql_secure_installation: command not found Any help would be appreciated. For instance, from reading a couple technet articles I've learned that I can run the following: netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group=”File and Printer Sharing” new enable=Yes The bit about 'group="File and Printer Sharing"' is the part I'm having trouble finding documentation for.     A while back, I came across a random password generator for the command line that displayed a grid of "memorable" passwords. Output was something like this: adam@host:~$ CantRememberThisCommand lkajsdf aksjdfl kqwrupo qwerpoi qwerklw zxlkelq The idea was that you could run this utility while someone was looking over your shoulder, and still pick a password with some level of secrecy due to the large number of choices. I cannot remember what this utility was called. Oh interwebs, can you help?

  • Ubuntu's gui "Open With" command is not memorizing the application

    In Ubuntu, when we right-click a icon and use "open with", there is an option to remember that application for that file's type. For some reason, my system is no more memorizing the application (I think it was aftare some update). And, even when I have already used the "open with" command, the application is not showing in the "open with" list, so I have, everytime, to go to "open with"-"Other Application". Any hint to solve this?

    I'm a newbie to Xen, and I've recently installed Xen 4.2 by sources on my system. I've found a strange thing I've a VM when I start it via the command "xm create machine.cfg" all work fine, but if I use "xl create machine.cfg" it gives me the following error xc: error: panic: xc_dom_core.c:442: xc_dom_alloc_segment: segment ramdisk too large (0x4ba 0x2000 - 0x1bd9 pages): Out of memory libxl: error: libxl_dom.c:208:libxl__build_pv xc_dom_build_image failed: Invalid argument cannot (re-)build domain: -3 xenconsole: Could not read tty from store: No such file or directory What could be the problem? Any idea?

  • Command-line tool to disable IPv6 in 2K8R2?

    I'm in the process of deploying a bunch of Win2K8R2 VMs via vSphere's deployment template stuff, and in the deploy specification it allows you to punch a list of commands to run. Aside from activating Windows (which it doesn't do), it works pretty well. Does anyone know the command-line equivalent of going into a network adapter's properties and unchecking the IPv6 box? If I had that I could put that in the spec and not have to manually uncheck the IPv6 box.
