  • Server.CreateObject Fails when calling .Net object from ASP on 64-bit windows in IIS 32-bit mode

    - by DrFredEdison
I have a server running Windows 2003 64-bit, that runs IIS in 32-bit mode. I have a COM object that was registered using the following command: C:\WINDOWS\microsoft.net\Framework\v2.0.50727>regasm D:\Path\To\MyDll.dll /tlb:MyTLB.tlb /codebase When I create the object via ASP I get: Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 8000ffff' Server.CreateObject Failed /includes/a_URLFilter.asp, line 19 8000ffff When I create the object in a vbs script and use the 32-bit version of cscript (in \Windows\syswow64) it works fine. I've checked permissions on the DLL, and the IUSR has Read/Execute. Even if I add the IUSR to the Administrators group, I get the same error. This is the log from ProcessMonitor filtering for the path of my dll (annotated with my actions): [Stop IIS] 1:56:30.0891918 PM w3wp.exe 4088 CloseFile D:\Path\To\MyDll.dll SUCCESS [Start IIS] [Refresh ASP page that uses DLL] 1:56:42.7825154 PM w3wp.exe 2196 QueryOpen D:\Path\To\MyDll.dll SUCCESS CreationTime: 8/19/2009 1:11:17 PM, LastAccessTime: 8/19/2009 1:30:26 PM, LastWriteTime: 8/18/2009 12:09:33 PM, ChangeTime: 8/19/2009 1:22:02 PM, AllocationSize: 20,480, EndOfFile: 20,480, FileAttributes: A 1:56:42.7825972 PM w3wp.exe 2196 QueryOpen D:\Path\To\MyDll.dll SUCCESS CreationTime: 8/19/2009 1:11:17 PM, LastAccessTime: 8/19/2009 1:30:26 PM, LastWriteTime: 8/18/2009 12:09:33 PM, ChangeTime: 8/19/2009 1:22:02 PM, AllocationSize: 20,480, EndOfFile: 20,480, FileAttributes: A 1:56:42.7826961 PM w3wp.exe 2196 CreateFile D:\Path\To\MyDll.dll SUCCESS Desired Access: Generic Read, Disposition: Open, Options: Synchronous IO Non-Alert, Non-Directory File, Attributes: N, ShareMode: Read, Delete, AllocationSize: n/a, Impersonating: SERVER2\IUSR_SERVER2, OpenResult: Opened 1:56:42.7827194 PM w3wp.exe 2196 CreateFileMapping D:\Path\To\MyDll.dll SUCCESS SyncType: SyncTypeCreateSection, PageProtection: 1:56:42.7827546 PM w3wp.exe 2196 CreateFileMapping D:\Path\To\MyDll.dll SUCCESS SyncType: SyncTypeOther 1:56:42.7829130 PM w3wp.exe 2196 Load Image D:\Path\To\MyDll.dll SUCCESS Image Base: 0x6350000, Image Size: 0x8000 1:56:42.7830590 PM w3wp.exe 2196 Load Image D:\Path\To\MyDll.dll SUCCESS Image Base: 0x6360000, Image Size: 0x8000 1:56:42.7838855 PM w3wp.exe 2196 CreateFile D:\Webspace\SecurityDll\bin SUCCESS Desired Access: Read Data/List Directory, Synchronize, Disposition: Open, Options: Directory, Synchronous IO Non-Alert, Attributes: n/a, ShareMode: Read, Write, Delete, AllocationSize: n/a, Impersonating: SERVER2\IUSR_SERVER2, OpenResult: Opened 1:56:42.7839081 PM w3wp.exe 2196 QueryDirectory D:\Path\To\MyDll.INI NO SUCH FILE Filter: SecurityDll.INI 1:56:42.7839281 PM w3wp.exe 2196 CloseFile D:\Webspace\SecurityDll\bin SUCCESS [Refresh ASP page that uses DLL] [Refresh ASP page that uses DLL] [Refresh ASP page that uses DLL] This dll works fine on other servers, running 32-bit windows. • Build 32-bit with 64-bit llvm-gcc

    - by Jay Conrod
I have a 64-bit version of llvm-gcc, but I want to be able to build both 32-bit and 64-bit binaries. Is there a flag for this? I tried passing -m32 (which works on the regular gcc), but I get an error message like this: [jay@andesite]$ llvm-gcc -m32 test.c -o test Warning: Generation of 64-bit code for a 32-bit processor requested. Warning: 64-bit processors all have at least SSE2. /tmp/cchzYo9t.s: Assembler messages: /tmp/cchzYo9t.s:8: Error: bad register name `%rbp' /tmp/cchzYo9t.s:9: Error: bad register name `%rsp' ... This is backwards; I want to generate 32-bit code for a 64-bit processor! I'm running llvm-gcc 4.2, the one that comes with Ubuntu 9.04 x86-64. EDIT: Here is the relevant part of the output when I run llvm-gcc with the -v flag: [jay@andesite]$ llvm-gcc -v -m32 test.c -o test.bc Using built-in specs. Target: x86_64-linux-gnu Configured with: ../llvm-gcc4.2-2.2.source/configure --host=x86_64-linux-gnu --build=x86_64-linux-gnu --prefix=/usr/lib/llvm/gcc-4.2 --enable-languages=c,c++ --program-prefix=llvm- --enable-llvm=/usr/lib/llvm --enable-threads --disable-nls --disable-shared --disable-multilib --disable-bootstrap Thread model: posix gcc version 4.2.1 (Based on Apple Inc. build 5546) (LLVM build) /usr/lib/llvm/gcc-4.2/libexec/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.2.1/cc1 -quiet -v -imultilib . test.c -quiet -dumpbase test.c -m32 -mtune=generic -auxbase test -version -o /tmp/ccw6TZY6.s I looked in /usr/lib/llvm/gcc-4.2/libexec/gcc hoping to find another binary, but the only directory there is x86_64-linux-gnu. I will probably look at compiling llvm-gcc from source with appropriate options next.

  • VBS script works on XP 32-bit but not on 7 64-bit

    - by neurolysis
This script (a modification of one of Rob van der Woude's) works fine on XP 32-bit, but fails on 7 64-bit at Set objDialog = CreateObject( "UserAccounts.CommonDialog" ), with something similar to the error (translated from Dutch) ActiveX cannot create the object "UserAccounts.CommonDialog". Is there some different way that I have to do this for it to be compatible with Windows 7? MsgBox("Your input avi MUST be exported at 60fps, or this script will not work."),0,"IMPORTANT!" MsgBox("Please select the location of your AVI."),0,"AVI location" WScript.Echo GetFileName( "", "AVI files (*.avi)|*.avi" ) Function GetFileName( myDir, myFilter ) Dim objDialog Set objDialog = CreateObject( "UserAccounts.CommonDialog" ) If myDir = "" Then objDialog.InitialDir = CreateObject( "WScript.Shell" ).SpecialFolders( "MyDocuments" ) Else objDialog.InitialDir = myDir End If If myFilter = "" Then objDialog.Filter = "All files|*.*" Else objDialog.Filter = myFilter End If If objDialog.ShowOpen Then GetFileName = objDialog.FileName Else GetFileName = "" End If End Function

  • DirectX works for 64-bit but not 32-bit

    - by dtbarne
I'm trying to play a game (Civilization 5) which was previously working but no longer. I believe I've narrowed it down to a DirectX issue because I get an error running dxdiag.exe in 32 bit mode. My goal (at least I believe) is to get Direct3D Acceleration "Enabled" in dxdiag (as it is in 64 bit dxdiag). A very similar issue is here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/direct3d-acceleration-is-not-available-in-windows/4c345e6e-dc68-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?page=1 The proposed answer, which looks very promising, doesn't seem to work for me. Like other users in that thread, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers does not have a SoftwareOnly key to change. I even tried manually adding it as a string and dword, to no avail. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M, and before you ask, yes I've tried updating (also uninstalling, reinstalling) my drivers. I've also tried doing the same with DirectX (and Civilization 5 for that matter). Been debugging for some 4+ hours now after a full day of work and I've run out of ideas. I'm hoping somebody knows the solution here! :) Here's what I see when I open dxdiag: DxDiag has detected that there mgiht have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used. Would you like to bypass Direct3D this time? No - Crash Yes - Works, but in Display tab: DirectDraw Acceleration: Disabled Direct3D Acceleration: Not Available AGP Texture Acceleration: Not Available If I click "Run 64-bit DxDiag", all three are "Enabled". I should also note that I've tried the following steps as Microsoft suggests, but I'm not able to do so as the "Change Settings" button is disabled. Some programs run very slowly—or not at all—unless Microsoft DirectDraw or Direct3D hardware acceleration is turned on. To determine this, click the Display tab, and then under DirectX Features, check to see whether DirectDraw, Direct3D, and AGP Texture Acceleration appear as Enabled. If not, try turning on hardware acceleration. Click to open Screen Resolution. Click Advanced settings. Click the Troubleshoot tab, and then click Change settings. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to Full. • Perl script segfaulting after 64-bit upgrade

    - by Brent
I recently upgraded a 32-bit Debian server to 64-bit by re-installing, and copying my data into place. After this I have a perl script that repeats the following, and is segfaulting on the tell line: seek(FIN,$ps,0); tell(FIN, $ps); $line=<FIN>; I don't speak perl, so I'm not sure exactly what is going on here. I can get the script to run (apparently successfully) by commenting every occurrence of tell, but this is obviously not the best solution. I suspect that tell is calling a 32-bit binary or something, and that is the cause of the segfault - but I don't know. Can someone explain what tell does, and if it is indeed a separate binary, what package it belongs to (or how it is installed ie. cpan)? Or perhaps I am on the wrong track?

  • Install Mouse Driver on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

    - by Soren
I have a mouse that I absolutely love (been using them for years), A4Tech WOP-35. It has dual scrollers and 5 buttons, 3 of the buttons are programmable. I use them at work and at home. At work I am using Windows 7 Enterprise (32 bit), at home I am using Windows 7 Professional (64 bit). The drivers installed easily on my machine at work. Unfortunately, they will not install on my computer at home. When I double click on the Setup.exe, it asks me if I want to install it, and of course I click on "Yes", but nothing happens. When I say nothing happens, I mean nothing happens; it appears that it doesn't even try to install. The same thing happens when I right click on the setup.exe and select run as administrator. How can I get around this? I am guessing it is because I am running the 64 bit version of Windows.

  • Memory limit on PHP + Apache + Windows 32 bit?

    - by thkala
I am considering using Apache 32-bit for a Moodle installation on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit/16GB server. Since the available memory affects the number of concurrent of users that can be served, I was wondering how the 2GB memory limit on 32-bit Windows processes affects Apache+PHP. Is it a collective limit for the whole server, or is it applied separately for each Apache child process/thread? If it is separate, how many of those children are launched on Windows? One per request? One per processor core? Something in the middle? Is this somehow configurable?

  • Can't start program by PsExec on windows server 2003 64-bit

    - by Stan
I ran PsExec on a windows server 2003 32-bit machine to remotely launch a program on a windows server 2003 64-bit machine. The program is a win32 program with dependency to msvcr80.dll, msvcp80.dll, msjava.dll, PocoFoundation.dll, PocoNet.dll. The process will freeze and looks like fail to start the user interface. However, the program was running fine if I log on that 64-bit machine and double click on it. What could be wrong with using PsExec to launch it? I use process explorer but couldn't find anything. Thanks. EDIT: An update, this issue is actually happening to every program that launch by psexec on that host. For example, if try to use psexec to launch notepad.exe, I can see the process name (notepad.exe) in task manager, and notepad tab on taskbar. But when click on notepad tab, the window won't show up. It looks like the application stuck in the middle of launching process.

  • Using same Debug settings for Start External Program across 32 bit and 64 bit debug environments

    - by Michael Prewecki
We use a mixture of 32-bit and 64-bit development environments. Some of our class libraries are debugged using a 32-bit application so we have debug settings for "Start External Program" and "Working Directory". The problem is that the settings need to be different since the 32-bit application is installed to C:\Program Files\xxx (on the 32-bit dev enviroment) or C:\Program Files (x86)\xxx (on the 64-bit dev environment) Is there a way to use some sort of tag like %PROGRAMFILES% or $(ProgramFiles) so that Visual Studio 2008 will know where to look for the external program? This wouldn't be a major issue except the solution file (where the debug information is saved) is checked into source control...so getting the latest version of the solution from our source repository keeps yoyo'ing the debug settings between the two program files locations.

  • Solaris 32bit / 64bit confusion

    - by goldenmean
I have a Solaris on a AMD- uname -a gives OS Solaris 10 x86_64 (SunOS goldtpus34 5.10 Generic_144489-11 I wanted to find whether it has a 32bit or 64 bit kernel so I did /usr/bin/isainfo -k it says amd64 but when i do file /sbin/init it says ELF 32-bit LSB executable 80386 Version 1, dynamically linked, stripped Also if I do file it says ELF 64-bit LSB executable AMD64 Version 1 [SSE2 SSE FXSR FPU], dynamically linked, not stripped So is it possible to have a Kernel working in 64bit mode but System utils/process spawner(init) in 32bit mode. I am confused. How to accurately get if the OS Kernel is in 64/32 bit mode on Solaris and on Linux?

  • Dell Driver Support for Latitude E6320 Windows 7 Enterprise

    - by IamPolaris
I recently did a reinstall of Windows 7 Enterprise on a Dell Latitude E6320, which is a 64 bit system. After the install process, and doing typical Windows Update stuff, I looked at my Device Manager and found that I had devices which were missing drivers. My missing drivers: After going to the Dell Support site and looking at the files, and doing some sleuthing I found the following support document: http://downloads.dell.com/utility/Latitude%20E-Family%20%20Mobile%20Precision%20Re-Image%20How-To%20Guide%20-%20A03%20Rev%203%200.pdf This document hints in appendix C that the Broadcom USH is the Control Point Security and the Unknown device is Micro freefall sensor. The network controller is my wireless, as I cannot connect wirelessly, and the final missing driver I am not sure. Attempting to install the control point security exe on the support page will not work. After downloading, I am given the message that I am attempting to install a 32 bit driver on a 64 bit machine EVEN THOUGH I selected the win7 64 bit option from the support page. Beyond that, some of the drivers (Which are confusing to read and hard to understand what they do) and the system utilities which are supposedly supposed to make this process simpler will either a) not run because they are 32 bit exe's or b) the support page cannot find the file attempted to download. Is there anything I can do to get (at the very least) my wireless running, but idealistically all of my drivers. A solution which assumes Dell is completely incompetent would be ideal. :P Some forums have said that I should download the chipset driver, others say to get the system utility file (DSS_UTIL_WIN_R282536.EXE). I have had no luck as of yet...

  • How do I force a 64-bit windows 8.1 install?

    - by ausairman
I have just purchased a copy of Windows 8.1 32-bit/64-bit from the MSDNAA program through my University. It came as an .iso file so I burned it to a DVD and installed / registered without any issues. I just found out it's a 32-bit install though, and I'm running a 64-bit laptop (Dell Studio 1555). The exact produce name I purchased is Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional 32/64-bit (English). Is that just another name for "32-bit version that also works on 64-bit machines"? I have 4GB and I would like to code for 64-bit architectures so not having a 64-bit environment will be a real pain. I didn't see any options to choose the install type (it had Windows 7 64-bit previously but I completely wiped it). Any ideas?

  • Configuring 32-Bit ASP.NET Application on a 64-Bit IIS Server

    - by Tim
Hello, I’m trying to install a 32-bit ASP.NET application onto a 64-bit IIS server running on Windows Server 2008. This is a clean installation of the operating system with no other applications installed. As a prerequisite for our installation, we run the 32-bit version of aspnet_regiis –i It fails with the following message: The error indicates that IIS is not installed on the machine. Please install IIS before using this tool. Additionally: IIS is definitely installed. The 64 bit version of aspnet_regiis runs cleanly without warnings. “Enable 32 bit applications” is set to True in the DefaultAppPool’s Advanced Settings. The IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility” component is installed. We have a test VM where this error occurs as well as test VM where both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of aspnet_regiis run without errors. We've had no luck distinguishing the differences between the two test VMs. We have struggled with this issue for several days to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Terminal Server 2008: Installing 16-bit Application (FoxPro 2.6)

    - by JohnyD
I have one physical Windows 2008 R2 server running Hyper-V. Running under Hyper-V I have a virtual Windows Server 2008 R2 server running Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services). I'm preparing my applications using the "Install Application on Remote Desktop..." control panel app. So far so good. However, I am now trying to install FoxPro 2.6 which is a 16-bit windows application. When I try to install it I receive the message: "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher". Is there any way around this? I'm in the middle of a large migration to thin-clients and foxpro 2.6, while it won't be around forever, is a very integral application for our data-entry personnel. How can I get this to work? Thanks in advance!

  • Windows 7 64-bit installation from alternative media (no DVD/USB Flash drive)

    - by Niels Willems
Greetings I currently have Windows 7 x86 installed on my computer. I want to install Windows 7 x64 on a different partition on my computer. However there is a little issue, I cannot run the x64 install from Windows 7 x86 which I currently have. I was planning to Install Windows 7 x64 on another partition to then boot up from that partition to install it on the partition I actually want my OS on. Once that is complete I could just format the partition from the Windows 7 x64 that I didn't need anymore. But the installer will not run from the x86 version of Windows 7 even though I do not want to upgrade that Windows directly. The reason I'm doing this in such a weird way is that my optical drive is broken and I'm really not into buying a new one since I would use it like once every year or so. I also don't have a USB Flash Drive which is big enough to hold the installation files. As far as I'm aware I cannot use an external hard drive such as this one, which I do have. Are there any alternatives in which I can install Windows 7 x64 or am I forced into buying a USB Flash Drive or new optical drive? Thank you in advance for your replies. Edit: This picture shows my current partitions on my laptop. I want to get Windows 7 x64 on the C partition but have to install it first on the F partition to then boot up the F partition windows to format C and install x64 on that one. My external drive is J. Edit 2: No alternative computer which has a DVD drive, install files are located on an iso from MA3D. To install my 32 bit version I mounted the ISO in Daemon Tools to replace my Windows Vista but since I cannot run 64 bit into my 32 bit OS this doesn't work.

  • Serious 64-bit laptop

    - by Daniel Gehriger
For the past couple of years, I have been using an IBM Thinkpad T60p for daily work (software development, desktop & embedded). I am extremely satisfied with this machine, due to its robustness. It also has a few features I depend on: a high resolution display: 15.0" TFT FlexView display with 1600x1200 (UXGA); excellent keyboard; decent graphics and CPU performance. Some of the software I develop benefits from larger amounts of RAM, and 3GB (Windows 7 32-bit) or 4GB (Windows 7 64-bit on T60p) are no longer sufficient. My customers run desktop computers with 20GB and more, and I need to have at least 8GB to at least be able to run reasonable test cases. So I'm shopping around for a new laptop, but I'm struggling to find anything that matches my requirements: must run Windows 7 64-bit Pro or higher; must support at least 8GB of RAM (more is better) high screen resolution! While I prefer 4:3 I can live with wide screen. But I really hope to find something with a vertical screen resolution similar to what I have now... portable, so < 16" but = 14" I realize that FlexView isn't available anymore, but I'd like to avoid a glossy screen if possible. decent (not more) graphics performance, ideally hybrid (I'm doing a lot of CAD, never games). good keyboard reasonable CPU -- but I'm still fine with my current Core 2 Duo, so that shouldn't be too complicated. The T60p fits all those requirements, except the 8GB of RAM. Can you help me find a current notebook that would match most of them? I don't mind changing brand. Thanks!
