  If you were in any doubt at all that you need to license Standby / Passive Failover servers then the White Paper “Do Not Pay Too Much for Your Database Licensing” will settle those doubts. I’ve had debate before people thinking you can only have a single instance as a standby machine, that’s just wrong; it would mean you could have a scenario where you had a 2 node active/passive cluster with database mirroring and log shipping (a total of 4 SQL Server instances) – in that set up you only need to buy one physical license so long as the standby nodes have the same or less physical processors (cores are irrelevant). So next time your supplier suggests you need a license for your standby box tell them you don’t and educate them by pointing them to the white paper. For clarity I’ve copied the extract below from the White Paper. Extract from “Do Not Pay Too Much for Your Database Licensing” Standby Server Customers often implement standby server to make sure the application continues to function in case primary server fails. Standby server continuously receives updates from the primary server and will take over the role of primary server in case of failure in the primary server. Following are comparisons of how each vendor supports standby server licensing. SQL Server Customers does not need to license standby (or passive) server provided that the number of processors in the standby server is equal or less than those in the active server. Oracle DB Oracle requires customer to fully license both active and standby servers even though the standby server is essentially idle most of the time. IBM DB2 IBM licensing on standby server is quite complicated and is different for every editions of DB2. For Enterprise Edition, a minimum of 100 PVUs or 25 Authorized User is needed to license standby server.   The following graph compares prices based on a database application with two processors (dual-core) and 25 users with one standby server. [chart snipped]  Note   All prices are based on newest Intel Xeon Nehalem processor database pricing for purchases within the United States and are in United States dollars. Pricing is based on information available on vendor Web sites for Enterprise Edition. • Office 365 Powershell - Export user, license type, and company field to csv file

  I need to be able to export user name or email address (doesn't matter which), company (from the company field under the organization tab in a user account of the exchange admin console), and license type (e.g. exchange online e1, exchange online kiosk etc...) I am able to export both values in two statements into two separate files but that doesn't do me much good. I can export the username and license type with the following: Get-MSOLUser | % { $user=$_; $_.Licenses | Select {$user.displayname},AccountSKuid } | Export-CSV "sample.csv" -NoTypeInformation And, I can get the company values with the following: Get-User | select company | Export-CSV sample.csv Someone on another forum suggested this - $index = @{} Get-User | foreach-object {$index.Add($_.userprincipalname,$_.company)} Get-MsolUser | ForEach-Object { write-host $_.userprincipalname, $index[$_.userprincipalname], $_.licenses.AccountSku.Skupartnumber} That seems like it should work but it doesn't display any license info in my powershell, it's just blank. Also I wouldn't know how to export that to a csv file. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

• License similar to the MIT license but without the ability to sell?

  I'm trying to decide how I want to license my Wordpress themes to the public. I know that the GPL is recommended to Wordpress theme creators, however I feel it might not be liberal enough for me because I want businesses to be able to use them if they want to. I really like the MIT license, the only thing that gets me is the freedom to sell part. I don't want someone taking my themes and selling them on some theme farm site, they should be free for everyone, however I don't want to require them to republish any changes under the MIT as well, I think that that freedom should remain intact. Is there a license that sort of fits into the terms I specified here? I'm not a lawyer so I have trouble reading through the complicated language of licenses. If there is not a similar license to the MIT but with the terms I have specified, should I just license under a modified MIT? If so, can anyone help me write it? Thanks very much!

  New to iOS development and everything with the license is driving me nuts. So i got a few questions. I have a developer account but not a license yet. If i buy a iOS developer license for $99, that license is then stuck to my account? Can one developer account have multiple iTunes Connect accounts or is it stuck to one? Before i started to read up on stuff my account got added to a company's iTunes Connect account. If i then buy a license would i be stuck to just develop to that company or is it possible to change? I want to develop for my self and also one specific company. Can i use the same licence or do i need two? Can you have multiple licenses/certifications or whatever its called in Xcode? Is the iOS Developer Program both for development and distribution?

If i am to use CoreServices framework to work with files (FSRef, Forks, URLs, etc.) will i be able to get a raw BSD file descriptor (plain int)? If yes, then how can i do that?   I have a software project I want to release under GPLv3, it uses two pieces of code that other parties have developed (one is the DLR by Microsoft, which is under the Microsoft Public License and the other piece of code is under the New BSD License). The BSD licensed code is compiled into the same binary as my code (but none of it is changed) The Ms-PL licensed code is compiled into another assembly next to my code and linked at runtime (and none of it is changed what so ever). Can I release my software under GPLv3 and without any legal problems?

• How did craigspro license Craigslist content? [closed]

  There's an app called craigspro that provides a much better interface to Craigslist on mobile devices. They claim that the app is Officially Licensed by Craigslist, but I thought Craigslist never licensed their content, and the only thing I can find on the subject in the terms of use is this: Any copying, aggregation, display, distribution, performance or derivative use of craigslist or any content posted on craigslist whether done directly or through intermediaries (including but not limited to by means of spiders, robots, crawlers, scrapers, framing, iframes or RSS feeds) is prohibited. As a limited exception, general purpose Internet search engines and noncommercial public archives will be entitled to access craigslist without individual written agreements executed with CL that specifically authorize an exception to this prohibition if ... Does anyone know how do get a "written agreement" with Craigslist, and roughly what their terms would be? Do they charge a fee, or just check that you're not evil? I'll try next with Craigslist directly, but I'd like to get a sense of the landscape before stumbling in.

Are there any issues in running the Client as a DLL that is loaded by other commercial applications on users' desktops? Does it require these other applications also to be AGPL?   I have a habit of writing small, reusable components in my spare time. I reuse these components with my clients' code bases. It occurs to me there's a potential issue that using identical code for multiple clients may bite me back in the future. I don't care who uses the code. I just don't want a situation where one company tries to sue another for copyright infringement due to my actions. I'm not familiar with common licensing schemes. What do I need to specify in my code files to indicate that these protions are copyrighted to myself and usable by anyone, while differentiating them from the code specificly written for the client? For example one library will be licensed under the Apache 2.0 license, another will use the LGPL license. When I have registered my application the Ubuntu software center and I've selected the licence, I just found "Proprietary" but in my application I have to provide a licence text that something different than just "Proprietary", isn't it?
