I just upgraded my home PC to Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. After trying various methods to get the Cisco VPN client to work, I gave up and decided to just run it in XP mode. The last steps I tried were in this article ( http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproappcompat/thread/d880dfe5-7f44-4955-8620-2a9355d8ea8b/ )

Will doing "Run as administrator" on a .BAT file allow regsvr32 enough privlieges to register a DLL or OCX?
The .bat file contains:
regsvr32 -u SomeOCX.ocx
regsvr32 SomeOCX.ocx
Or, does the logged in user need to be an administrator?
I am trying to access a SQL Server database housed on a ISP. Normally one would simply install an express version of SQL server and use the Management Studio therein. Yeah, not me!
Are there any third party tools that will allow me to manage my database? Lightweight ones would be the best but I'm not that picky. :)
In Win 7, which of the following accounts would have the "Run as Administrator" option showing for executable files:
local account not in the local or
domain administrator group
local account in the local
administrator group
local account in the domain
administrator group
domain account not in the local or

I've three questions.
Is it better/faster/optimal to set up your server's preferred and alternate DNS servers in your OS's network settings or in your router settings?
Will it cause problems if it is set up in both places, both pointing to the same IPs?
I am running Windows and I have my network assign a static IP to one of my computers.…
Having spent several hours reading about the features and limitations of services like DropBox and Jungle Disk and the hundreds of competitors they seem to have (as though everyone with an AWS account these days goes ahead and writes a file sharing application just for fun), I have yet to find one that would let a team of people at a small…
I am having a lot of trouble setting up the terminal history of Bash the way I want.
I would like to have no duplicate entries and if I enter a command I want it saved and the duplicates above removed.
The problem is the history command shows me it is functioning the way I want however once I log out the duplicates come back again. I…
IE was my default browser about three months ago when I started experiencing this issue.
Intermittent hangs would occur when I would open a new main page or new tab to a site I know would be up.
What I mean by a hang:
The browser would open and say "Waiting for site " and do nothing more.
If I closed the window and reopened it…
I have just bought a new Samsung RV511 Laptop (the i5 Version).
Anyway it comes installed with a Broadcom Wifi Card, I have a Super Atheros Mini Wifi Card that I would like to swap for the Broadcom one. I use Atheros for security auditing purposes in Linux that the Broadcom one is not good for.
Trouble is I have never got to the…
So far I've tried using MacPorts which gives me this error:

I have Remote Assistance working but not Remote Desktop.
XP Firewall has exceptions for both Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop. Remote Desktop is allowed in System Properties - Remote.
What could be the problem?

I somehow configured my Mac to route all requests for a particular IP Name (sample.com) to the loopback address (127.0.0.1). Now I'm trying to remove this, but can't determine where to do it.
There is no entry for it under /etc/hosts.
The routing table shows that it is mapping the IP Name to the IP address of the Mac.

The SolidQ Journal for February just made it out by the end of February 28th. But again, it's great to see the content appearing. I've included the second part of the article on controlling the execution context of stored procedures. The first part was in December. Also this month, along with Fernando Guerrero's…
I have just registered a Windows 2008 VPS hosting account which I plan on running a couple of web sites on. In the past I have just used shared hosting in which everything is set up for me, so need a few pointers.
When I register a new domain it asks for a couple of name servers. How do I set this up on my…
When I create a new host only network adapter, it will not set the IP address I assign to it. After I save the IP address & netmask it looks like it works (I see the Windows 7 User Account Control verification box), but the IP address doesn't get stored on the adapter.
I have tried adding/removing the…
In UNIX (OS X BSD to be precise), I have a "tail -f" command on a log file. From time to time I want to delete this log file so I can more easily review it in my text editor.
I delete the file, and then my program recreates it after new activity. However, my tail command (and anything else that was…
I'm at my wit's end trying to control SMB file sharing on my Mac. (OS X 10.5 Leopard).
I want to do something fairly simple: share a particular (non-home, non-Public) folder over my my SMB/Windows network with two users (accounts are local to my Mac), and share no other folders with anyone.
The…
