  • Upgrade MySQL on Plesk on Windows

    I just got a nasty surprise when I installed a website in Unicode Hindi (Indian language) on a server, all freshly entered unicode data is turning into question marks on the server. On my dev machine it works perfectly. I found that I have MySQL version 5.0.45 (installed in default by Plesk I guess). On my dev machine i have version 5.1.33. I believe the problem could be due to the version difference. The new version of MySQL apparently has better support for Unicode than the older one. I want to upgrade MySQL on my Windows Server machine with Plesk installed on it I am reluctant to just install the new version using the mysql installer because Plesk maintains some custom settings for mysql and I am afraid the new version could change those settings and break my db. Can anyone tell me do I have to do anything special to install MySQL on plesk on windows or can I just use the new version installer?

  • Server Configuration / Important Parameter for 500Req/Second

    I am configuring a server to be used as nginx server for a very heavy traffic website. It is expected to receive traffic from a large number of IP addresses simultaneously. It is expected to get 500Req/Second with atleast 20Million unique IPs connecting it. One of the problems I noticed in my previos server was related to iptables / ipconntrack. I am not aware of this behaviour and would be glad to know which all parameters of a ubuntu / debian (32/64) bit machine should I tweek to get maximum performance from the server. I can put in a lot of RAM on the server but mission critical task is the response times. We ideally dont want any connection to be hanging / timing out / waiting and want as low as possible overall response times. P.S. We are also looking for a kick ass freelancer system admin who can help us figuring / setting this all up. Reach me incase you have some spare time and interested in working on some very heavy traffic website servers.

    Hello I recently installed CSF firewall and have made live a new server which is accepting around 600req/second. Its basically a reverse proxy and I found in pingdom and munin that for a particular time, the response times of the server increased by 3 folds. I looked into logs and exactly at that point, I found loads of entries like this: Feb 27 15:22:09 li235-57 dhclient: DHCPREQUEST of <My IP address> on eth0 to 207.192.68.72 port 67 Feb 27 15:22:09 li235-57 dhclient: send_packet: Operation not permitted Can you help me understand what went wrong and what exactly happened.     Hi, I am using Solr (1.4) AutoSuggest feature using termsComponent. Currently, if I type 'goo' means, Solr suggest words like 'google'. But I would like to receive suggestions like 'google, google alerts, ..' . ie, suggestions with single and multiple terms. Not sure, whether I need to use edgengrams for that. for eg, indexing google like 'go', 'oo', 'og', ... . But I think I don't need this, Since I don't want partial search.   • Sql Server 2005 database lost, How to recover all records. MDF/LDF size is same as it should be

    Few months back, I installed a sql server 2005 on one of my client machine. I gave him a backup option to take backup timely but he never took any backup. Today he called me that "i m not able to see any record of mine." I visited at my clients system and saw that none of the record was present on the tables. There was not even a single row in any of the tables. Then I checked if he has any backup file which i found to be absent. I asked him the reason what could be the possible cause. He said it might be due to virus. After this I checked the size of mdf and ldf file and found it should be what it is. when i created his server mdf ldf file had 2MB of database now it is 83 MB and 193Mb mdf/ldf respectively. This shows the data is still present in it but it is not being displayed. What could be the possible cause and how can i restore all data back to my tables ?

  • iptables forward rule not working in openwrt

    I am trying to apply some iptables forwarding rules in openwrt. Here is my scenario - My server has two cards ath0 and br-lan. br-lan is connected to internet and ath0 to private network. The other m/c in n/w also has ath0 that connects with this server's ath0 and they are able to ping each other. Now, I want other m/c in network to use internet using br-lan of server so I thought of using iptables forwarding rule- Here is what I tried - Server : $ ping 1.1.1.6 // <ath0-ip of client> works fine $ iptables -A FORWARD -i ath0 -o br-lan -j ACCEPT $ /etc/init.d/firewall restart Client : $ ping 1.1.1.5 // <ath0-ip of server> works fine $ ping 132.245.244.60 // <br-lan ip of server> (not working) I am new to iptables stuff and openwrt.     Task at hand: Microsoft sign drivers on Win 7. I microsoft signed my driver package 3 times every time thinking I might have missed a step or something. However, I cannot seem to get rid of the Windows Security error message "Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software'. This is not the first time I have signed the driver packages. I was successfully able to sign other driver packages a few months ago. However, with this driver package I keep getting Windows security dialog box. Here's the procedure I follow - Create a new cat file using INF2CAT tool. Self sign the driver using a Versign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5.cer. Run the microsoft tests on DTM Servers and clients with the devices that use this driver. Create WLK submission package. Self sign the cab file. Submit the package for certification. The catalog file that comes back after successfully passing tests says Name of signer "Microsoft Windows Hardware Comptibility Publisher". When I check the validity of signature using SignTool, it says the signature is vaild. However, when I try to install the driver with new signed catalog file the windows complain. Any ideas? I am using the same certificate I used when I signed those two driver packages a few months ago. It costs $250 per signing from Microsoft.   • Custom 403 Error page not showing

    I want to restrict access to certain folders (includes, xml and logs for example) and so I've given them 700 permissions, and all files within them 600 permissions. Firstly, is this the right approach to restrict access? I have a .htaccess file in my root that handles rewriting and error documents. There are two pages in the root - 403.php and 404.php - for 403 and 404 errors. And I have these rules added to my .htaccess file: ErrorDocument 404 /404.php ErrorDocument 403 /403.php Now, the 404 page works just fine. The 403 page does not show when I try to access the 'includes' folder - I get the standard apache 403 error page instead, saying 'Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.' However, when I try going to the .htaccess file (in the web root) in my browser, I get my custom 403 error page. Why is this happening?

    I have a nokia N97. In my apartment there's a wifi network that we all use to connect to the internet. But for the past few days my laptop is not able to find the network..Initially I thought it was a problem of the network,but hen I found out that others were able to use it..My vista os laptop is able to detect other available networks but not the required one..Then i tried to connect my cell phone to the network and it did easily!! I tried restoring the network settings to default but it showed the network for just 2 mins and it ws back to square one.. I wanted to know can I connect my laptop to the cell using USB and browse internet through that?? I have done it when I used GPRS but am not sure if it cn be done in this situation when the cell is connected toa wifi network..plz help..

  • Very Large number of connections in TIME_WAIT state; Server is slow, ipconntrac

    I have a nginx server with load balancing and reverse proxy. Right now its behing another nginx but very soon I plan to make it front, where it will receive TCP connections from clients directly at a rate of 500req/second I am having some big troubles with the server. It surely isnt great. Can you help me understand whats going on and how can I fix it. This is my live server and I am sure its in a bad shape right now. Any document or commands to fix this, or settings I should make to make this better and reduce time wait and fin_wait1/2 better would be awesome.

  • Wireless connection switches off IP address

    I have a Lenovo laptop with windows XP and a wireless connection at home. The wireless connection works when initially I switch on the computer. but if I leave it for even 5 minutes, the wireless is gone. Then I have to shut it off and start computer all over again, waiting for 5 minutes. Even if the wireless speed is 48Mbps or better, it gives the message "Renewing IP address" and gets stuck there not moving to the next stage. Other laptop in the household works fine and can be left on. Why does this happen ? I suspect that IP address is the problem and somehow is not registered in all the necessary files.

  • Can I automatically login to ssh using passwords from OS X keychain?

    I need to login to an ssh server which doesn't support key based authentication. And I don't want to type the passwords every time. I am using OS X Lion (10.7.2). I have added the passwords to the OS X keychain[1]. Now I can retrieve the password automatically from the keychain using /usr/bin/security, however I can't find a way to send this password to the ssh prompt. I also tried sshpass. However when I try to run it ssh exits with the following error: ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/libexec/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory Permission denied, please try again. ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/libexec/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory Permission denied, please try again. ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/libexec/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory Permission denied (publickey,password). Is there anyway I can login to this server without having to enter the password every time?     Hi, I try to apply flattened css to xhtml (which get from websites). I am using css4j-0.12.1.jar (from http://www.informatica.info/projects/css/) to process the url html content. For a few urls the code seems to be hang. Even no exception is thrown. For a particular stylableelement or style code doesnot return any value and hangs. For a few websites code hang in, CSSStyleDeclaration.getPropertyValue(style); and for a few websites code hang in, CSSStylableElement.getComputedStyle(); I am using the latest jar. Could you please update me, is there any known issue or fix for this. I am not sure where to post this issue. If anyone knows please update me. Thanks in Advance.

Now http://myserverpath.com/zfapi/ gives me listing of folder public application and others. http://myserverpath.com/zfapi/public give me the index page index.php. and i have made the UserController.php in application/controllers but by http://myserverpath.com/zfapi/user/ is saying user not found. what configuration i need to set for running it proper.
