• Extended display - nightmare

  I have been struggling for quite a while, and I hope one of you can shed some lights on my issue. I am using Xubuntu 13.10 (Ubuntu 12.04LTS behaves the same way, higher version wouldn't install, LinuxMint didn't install, Fedora didn't install). I am trying to set extend display for two dell monitors 1900x1200. It works great when in mirror mode, but I just cannot extend the display. Either one monitor goes to sleep and the other is unresponsive, or both work but are unusable. This is a link to the picture of my monitors in mirror mode This is link showing what happens after I try to extend the desktop I get the same results if I use aRandr or the built in configuration utility. I have an ATI Radeon X300 card. I cannot use proprietary Catalyst drivers (I would have to use the legacy ones, which would force me into using much older version of the OS). Extension is possible with Windows. I am hoping someone can come up with tweaks that would allow me to run an extended desktop. I truly love Xubuntu (and Ubuntu, unfortunately, Unity is a bit too heavy for my old PC, and I have to run in 2D mode, so 12.04 is as high as I can go). I have tried everything I could find online, but nothing worked thus far. I believe some configuration or something I am missing might work. Please, if you have any idea, do not hesitate. • Render a 3D scene in multiple windows - extended panoramic view

  Is there any resource location on how to view a 3D scene from an application or a game on multiple windows or monitors? Each window should continue drawing from where the neighbouring one left off (in the end, the result should be a mosaic of the scene). My idea is to use a camera for each window and have a reference position and orientation for a meta-camera object that is used to correctly offset the other camera. Since there are quite some elements to consider (window specs, viewport properties, position-orientation of each render camera), what is the correct way to update the individual cameras considering the position and orientation of the central, meta-camera? I currently cannot make the cameras present the scene contiguously (and I am reluctant in working out the transformations without checking whether this is the actual way of doing things).

  Hi, I have a pom.xml that uses cxf-codegen-plugin to generate a couple of WS clients. Inside the configuration of cxf-codegen-plugin, there are the WSDL locations. I would like to externalize those strings to a env.properties file. I used org.codehaus.mojo's properties-maven-plugin to look inside src/main/resources/conf/app/env.properties.   I want the ability add properties and tags to a file (specifically ebook files and ebook related properties in Windows 7 but interested to go so for as many OSes as possible) For e.g. Example.txt or Example.doc or Example.epub should all store and carry properties like 'Author', 'Publication date', 'Tags' etc.. the properties should be stored with the file itself. Such that if it is transferred to another system it retains the properties (even if i need to install 'my app' to support this function on the other machine) How do I make this possible using .net (preferred) and what file system concepts should I learn to understand the underlying concepts and limitations to be able to implement this feature? • Webapp in Jetty can't find properties file after running a couple days

  I have a webapp running in Jetty on Mac OS 10.6. After a few days of it running and without the server losing power or rebooting, it seems to stop working saying it can't find a properties file. This properties file is included inside the .war file deployed to the /webapps directory. If I restart Jetty as the superuser the web service works again just fine. Can anyone lend any advice to what's going on and how I can fix it? The error being shown when it isn't working is: Problem accessing /my-web-service. Reason: INTERNAL_SERVER_ERROR Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException at com.company.service.Dao.readFromPropertiesFile(BwDao.java:35) at com.company.service.ServletHandler.doGet(ProxyClass.java:66) ... at org.mortbay.jetty.HttpConnection.handle(HttpConnection.java:404) at org.mortbay.io.nio.SelectChannelEndPoint.run(SelectChannelEndPoint.java:410) at org.mortbay.thread.QueuedThreadPool$PoolThread.run(QueuedThreadPool.java:582) Here's where the properties files exist that it's trying to read from the .war file: And this is how the properties are being read from the classpath: Properties properties = new Properties(); properties.load(Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader().getResourceAsStream( "app.properties")); Again, this does work just fine if I have just restarted the server, but it seems to fail after running a few days.

• Eclipse ADT: Layout Properties Editor doesn't work correctly

  I have a new, clean installation of Eclipse Kepler (4.3.1) SR1 (x64) in Linux Mint 15 Olivia x64 (based on Ubuntu 13.04 “Raring Ringtail”). ADT version is 22.3.0, and Java is Oracle's 1.7.0_45. The problem is, I cannot edit the properties in layout editor; nothing happens when I click "..." button, nor I can edit the properties directly by clicking the empty space. The boolean properties don't even contain the checkbox. This doesn't happen in Windows XP 32bit, with the same versions of Eclipse and ADT: Anyone know any workarounds/reasons for this? Looks like Mac OS X Mountain Lion had a similar issue in the past, but I heard that was fixed, and I'm talking about Linux version here. I had no such problems in Eclipse Indigo and an old version of ADT, but I can't remember the exact versions of them. EDIT: Lubuntu 13.04 (32bit) in VMware Player doesn't have this problem.

• Best methods for Lazy Initialization with properties

  I'm currently altering a widely used class to move as much of the expensive initialization from the class constructor into Lazy Initialized properties. Below is an example (in c#): Before: public class ClassA { public readonly ClassB B; public void ClassA() { B = new ClassB(); } } After: public class ClassA { private ClassB _b; public ClassB B { get { if (_b == null) { _b = new ClassB(); } return _b; } } } There are a fair few more of these properties in the class I'm altering, and some are not used in certain contexts (hence the Laziness), but if they are used they're likely to be called repeatedly. Unfortunately, the properties are often also used inside the class. This means there is a potential for the private variable (_b) to be used directly by a method without it being initialized. Is there a way to make only the public property (B) available inside the class, or even an alternative method with the same initialized-when-needed?

NHibernate supports lazy properties not just for associations (many to one, one to one, one to many, many to many) but also for scalar properties. This allows, for example, only loading a potentially large BLOB or CLOB from the database if and when it is necessary, that is, when the property is actually accessed. In order for this to work, other than having to be declared virtual, the property can’t have an explicitly declared backing field, it must be an auto property: 1: public virtual String MyLongTextProperty 2: { 3: get; 4: set; 5: } 6:  7: public virtual Byte [] MyLongPictureProperty 8: { 9: get; 10: set; 11: } All lazy scalar properties are retrieved at the same time, when one of them is accessed.

  I'm trying to use a reloadable spring resource bundle but spring cannot find the file. I've tried tons of different paths, but can't get it to work anywhere. In the code below you'll see that i load both the spring bundle and the regular one from the same path variable but only one works. I've been banging my head against this for far too long.   I'm having an issue, where for ease of use, I'd like to be able to format a command line MySQL dump so that each row of a given table is on a new line when using the --extended-insert option. Usually when using --extended-insert, every row of a given table is outputted on one line, and as far as I am aware there's no way to change this, other than post-processing the dump with perl or such like. The format I'm looking for is: -- -- Dumping data for table `ww_tbCountry` -- INSERT INTO `ww_tbCountry` (`iCountryId_PK`, `vCountryName`, `vShortName`, `iSortFlag`, `fTax`, `vCountryCode`, `vSageTaxCode`) VALUES (22, 'Albania', 'AL', 1, 0.00, '8', 'T9'), (33, 'Austria', 'AT', 1, 15.00, '40', 'T9'), (40, 'Belarus', 'BY', 1, 0.00, '112', 'T9'), (41, 'Belgium', 'BE', 1, 15.00, '56', 'T9'), (51, 'Bulgaria', 'BG', 1, 15.00, '100', 'T9' However, when I dump a database using Phpmyadmin, using --extended-insert, each row is dumped on a new line (as shown by the example above). • Why does clicking on Windows 7 Printer Properties Result In Driver Not Installed?

  The question I need to ask is has anyone heard of getting a "driver not installed" error when clicking on a printer's properties on Windows 7, and is there a workaround? Here are the details of the problem. One of our users has a Windows 7 desktop, and an HP LaserJet 4050 T connected to via a parallel-to-usb converter. The PLC5 universal driver was installed for series 4050 printers. I needed to install the PLC 6 driver, which completed successfully. The user is an administrator of the system, and I was prompted to and accepted running as Administrator to install the driver. After the install, I went to see the 4050's properties and was prompted that the PLC6 driver was not installed. I believe the PLC6 driver was installed, because the PLC5 driver resulted in receiving an official HP error page indicating the printer was "not set up for collating" as the second page of printing two copies of a one page email. This problem did not occur with the PLC 6 driver. Oddly enough, setting back to PLC5 produced the same error about the PLC5 driver not being installed. I ignored/dismissed the error box (did not re-install the driver), and reproduced the error, with the second page being the HP not set up for collating error page. Any thoughts on what is causing this and how to clear it would be appreciated. The closest fix I could find was on a Microsoft tech page, and they had me clear winsock out of a Administrator run command line, followed by a reboot. That did not fix the problem. • Why doesn't VB.NET 9 have Automatic Properties like C# 3??

  Would having a nice little feature that makes it quicker to write code like Automatic Properties fit very nicely with the mantra of VB.NET? Something like this would work perfect: Public Property FirstName() As String Get Set End Property UPDATE: VB.NET 10 (coming with Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4.0) will have Automatic Properties. • Strategies for when to use properties and when to use internal variables on internal classes?

  In almost all of my classes, I have a mixture of properties and internal class variables. I have always chosen one or the other by the rule "property if you need it externally, class variable if not". But there are many other issues which make me rethink this often, e.g.: at some point I want to use an internal variable from outside the class, so I have to refactor it into a property which makes me wonder why I don't just make all my internal variables properties in case I have to access them externally anyway, since most classes are internal classes anyway it aren't exposed on an API so it doesn't really matter if the internal variables are accessible from outside the class or not but then since C# doesn't allow you to instantiate e.g. List<string> property in the definition, then these properties have to be initialized in every possible constructor, so these variables I would rather have internal variables just to keep things cleaner in that they are all initialized in one place C# code reads more cleanly if constructor/method parameters are camel case and you assign them to pascal case properties instead of the ambiguity of seeing "templateIdCode" and having to look around to see if it is a local variable, method parameter or internal class variable, e.g. it is easier when you see "TemplateIdCode = templateIdCode" that this is a parameter being assigned to a class property. This would be an argument for always using only properties on internal classes. e.g.: public class TextFile { private string templateIdCode; private string absoluteTemplatePathAndFileName; private string absoluteOutputDirectory; private List<string> listItems = new List<string>(); public string Content { get; set; } public List<string> ReportItems { get; set; } public TextFile(string templateIdCode) { this.templateIdCode = templateIdCode; ReportItems = new List<string>(); Initialize(); } ... When creating internal (non-API) classes, what are your strategies in deciding if you should create an internal class variable or a property?

• where to put .properties files in an Eclipse project?

  I have a very simple properties file test I am trying to get working: (the following is TestProperties.java) package com.example.test; import java.util.ResourceBundle; public class TestProperties { public static void main(String[] args) { ResourceBundle myResources = ResourceBundle.getBundle("TestProperties"); for (String s : myResources.keySet()) { System.out.println(s); } } } and TestProperties.properties in the same directory: something=this is something something.else=this is something else which I have also saved as TestProperties_en_US.properties When I run TestProperties.java from Eclipse, it can't find the properties file: java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle for base name TestProperties, locale en_US Am I doing something wrong?
