• Stack trace in website project, when debug = false

  We have a website project. We are logging unhanded exceptions via a appdomain level exception handler. When we set debug= true in web.config, the exception log is showing the offending line numbers in the stack trace. But when we set debug = false, in web.config, log is not displaying the line numbers. We are not in a position to convert the website project in to webapplication project type at this time. Its legacy application and almost all the code is in aspx pages. We also need to leave the project in 'updatable' mode. i.e. We can't user pre-compile option. We are generating pdb files. Is there anyway to tell this kind of website projects to generate the pdb files, and show the line numbers in the stack trace?

• Ramifications of CheckForIllegalCrossThreadCalls=false

  I recently updated an application from VS2003 to VS2008 and I knew I would be dealing with a host of "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'myControl' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on" I am handling this in what I beleive is the correct way (see code sample below). I am running into numerous controls that are going to need a similar fix. Not wanting to have similar code for every label, textbox etc.. that are being accessed by a non UI thread. What are the ramifications of just setting the CheckForIllegalCrossThreadCalls = false for the entire app? I found a CodeProject article with various workarounds and a warning at the bottom to NOT set the property. • Membership.ValidateUser always returns false after upgrade to VS 2010 / .NET 4.0

  Not sure whether this pertains to VS 2010 or to the upgraded framework, but... we are using the Oracle membership provider to authenticate users. Prior to the upgrade everything worked fine, but now Membership.ValidateUser(user, password) returns false despite valid credentials. There is no exception thrown, so it's hard to determine what the problem might be. The website administration tool in VS 2010 is still able to manage users and roles (more or less), so I have no reason to question connectivity. What might the problem be?

  When run on a Spanish version of Windows XP my program invokes LANGID langId = (LANGID) MAKELANGID( LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_DEFAULT ); LCID locale = MAKELCID( language, SORT_DEFAULT ); BOOL isValid = IsValidLocale( locale, LCID_INSTALLED ); IsValideLocale() return FALSE when asked about English locale. Obviously something must be tuned in Windows to change this behaviour. What exactly should I do? I understand that it's not completely a programming question but rather a deployment question. Still I think it will be better off here than anywhere else.

  I have a regularexpression validator which validates a valid email. I have two buttons on my form. Submit and undo. On undo, we are reverting the page state to default submit has it validationgroup set while undo doesnot have any validationgroup and CausesValidation="false". Now when i navigate to page and enter invalid emailaddress,i directly click undo. the validator fires and stops my page from posting.however if i press tab and navigate to other control and then click undo,the validator shows error message but posts back and furthur proessing is done. This is very strange and i want the page to postback without any error message when i click undo.how to achieve it.

• How can I prevent a ToggleButton from being Toggled without setting IsEnabled=False

  I have a list of ToggleButtons being used as the ItemTemplate in a ListBox similar to this answer using the MultiSelect mode of the Listbox. However I need to make sure at least one item is always selected. I can get the proper behavior from the ListBox by just adding an item back into the ListBox's SelectedItems collection on the ListBox.SelectionChanged event but my ToggleButton still moves out of its toggled state so I think I need to stop it earlier in the process. I would like to do it without setting IsEnabled="False" on the last button Selected because I'd prefer to stay with the Enabled visual style without having to redo my button templates. Any ideas?

• PHP is_file returns false (incorrectly) for Windows share on Ubuntu

  Ubuntu server, PHP 5.3, connected via Samba to Windows server share. I am using file_exists() to check for availability of file on Windows machine. It returns false, although the filepath does exist. Meanwhile, file_get_contents() on the exact same filepath works fine. I'm wondering if it's a permission issue, since I'm having trouble configuring permissions of the files on the Windows share (it says I don't have permission to change permissions on them). When I look at the permissions through Nautilus, it says the user and group are both root, with 755 rights. I'd like to change the group to www-data, but can't seem to do it.

  I'm writing prepared statements that are supposed to insert data into a table, on a database that's been pre-selected in the variable $GLOBALS['mysqli']. The connection has been tested, and that's not the problem I'm having. I'm only running into trouble whenever my prepared statement involves INSERT INTO. I know the tablename, and field names are correct, but $stmt is ALWAYS false.   I am developing a personal blog in ASP.NET MVC 1.0. This blog application has Views like "Insert Post", "Edit Post", etc. I need to post a string containing HTML back to the appropriate controller method. That HTML value is being posted from a textarea. I've read that it's necessary to disable ValidateRequest directly on the page with the attribute ValidateRequest = "false" or in the web.config file. When I insert an HTML value in my textarea, I get always the error of 'potential value dangerous'. How can I use ValidateRequest to allow the form element containing HTML values to be posted?

• Bring another processes Window to foreground when it has ShowInTaskbar = false

  We only want one instance of our app running at any one time. So on start up it looks to see if the app is running and if it is, it calls SetForegroundWindow on the Main Window. This is all good and well ... for the most part.. When our app starts up it will show a Splash screen and a Logon form. Both of these forms have ShowInTaskBar = false. Because of this, if you try to start up another copy of the app when the Logon form is showing, that Logon form is not brought to the front! Especially as the user cant see anything in the taskbar as well, all they figure is that the app is duff and cannot start. There is no indication that there is another instance running. Is there any way around this problem?

When appending text to a TextBox and InvoveRequired is false the text will display in the box but the next time the function is called and InvokeRequired is true the text string placed by the first call is lost (""). Multiple calls when InvokeRequired is true work as expected. comBox is a type TextBox with multline = true. • Using True and False to select items to print

  I have a workbook that contains rows of information that needs to printed to a seperate worksheet in excel. I am trying to utilize a checkbox to indicate which items need to print and which items need to be skipped. The checkbox is located in column "A" and once checked and the macro ran, I want it to pick up the data in each cell of that particular row, transfer it a seperate worksheet (form), prompt and save the worksheet to pdf, clear the form, and then return to the main worksheet to continue until all rows have been checked. However, right now, my code is only looping through the very first "TRUE" statement and not continuing to the rest.   Using TDataSet.FindKey you can locate records. When it results in True the datasets cursor will be positioned on the found record. When it results in False the cursor is not moved. This results in the record data prior to FindKey being issued being displayed in data aware components. • File.Exists() returns false, but not in debug

  I'm being completely confused here folks, My code throws an exception because File.Exists() returns false public override sealed TCargo ReadFile(string fileName) { if (!File.Exists(fileName)) { throw new ArgumentException("Provided file name does not exist", "fileName"); } Visual studio breaks at the throw statement, and I immediately check the value of File.Exists(fileName) in the immediate window. It returns true. When I drag the breakpoint back up to the if statement and execute it again, it throws again. fileName is an absolute path to a file. I'm not creating the file, nor writing to it (it's there all along). If I paste the path into the open dialog in Notepad, it reads the file without problems. The code is executing in a background worker. It's the only complicating factor I can think of. I am positive the file has not been opened already, either in the worker thread or elsewhere. What's going on here?

  I have a Sql Database (which I have no control over the schema) that has a Column that will have the varchar value of "Yes", "No", or it will be null. For the purpose of what I am doing null will be handled as No. I am programming in c# net 3.5 using a data table and table adapter to pull the data down. I would like to directly bind the column using a binding source to a check box I have in my program however I do not know how or where to put the logic to convert the string Yes/No/null to boolean True/False; Reading a null from the SQL server and writing back a No on a update is acceptable behavior. Any help is greatly appreciated. EDIT -- This is being developed for windows.

  I have an array of tags per item like so: item1 = ['new', 'expensive'] item2 = ['expensive', 'lame'] I also have a boolean expression as a string based on possible tags: buy_it = "(new || expensive) && !lame" How can I determine if an item matches the buying criteria based on the tags associated with it? My original thought was to do a gsub on all words in buy_it to become 'true' or 'false' based on them existing in the itemx tags array and then exec the resulting string to get a boolean result. But since the Ruby community is usually more creative than me, is there a better solution?

  Hi Hi have an observable collection that I bind to a DataGrid using the itemsource property of the DataGrid. All the properties of the class inside the collection are displayed properly in the DataGrid. Now, I want to hide some fields to the DataGrid using the browsable attribute [Browsable(false)] in the class. It works well in winforms, but it seems not working in WPF. Someone knows why? I can hide the columns later, but I don't want to loss performance in this way. Is there any other solution? Thanks.

  JavaScript has different equality comparison operators Equal == Strict equal === It also has a logical NOT ! and I've tended to think of using a double logical NOT, !!x, as basically the same as true == x. However I know this is not always the case, e.g. x = [] because [] is truthy for ! but falsy for ==. So, for which xs would (true == x) === !!x give false? Alternatively, what is falsy by == but not !! (or vice versa)?

  Hi, I have this RichTextBox and I have embedded some http links in it. I have set DetectUrls = true, and it displays the links correctly and handles in the event. In the same RichTextBox, I have one more string displayed which looks like this Type http://< Your host name Now, since DetectUrls= true, the portion "http://<" is displayed as a link, while I want this to be text. If I set the DetectUrls=false just before displaying this string, none of the other links are displayed as links. Is there a way to partially set DetectUrls for some strings and not for others?
