  • Using xml to feed a silverlight application

    - by Aidenn
Hey! I am building a Silverlight application that should get it's elements from XML defined objects, but I am kinda stuck: how should I feed the Silverlight application with the data in the XML? What would be a good approach? Can this be done by transforming XML to XAML using XSLT? Any other suggestion?

  • Twitter feed only load periodically

    - by William
I've tried many jQuery twitter feed plugins and they all seem to suffer from the same problem. Nothing loads for unless I refresh several times and then it will load once. I then need to refresh several more times before it loads again. Is there some sort of limitation on Twitters side or does this only happen to me? Example - This is the test site but it is basically ready to go live except for this issue.

  • Android which type of feed is faster for rendering?

    - by ppshein
Currently, I've developed android news application for my client. In this project, I've used JSON feed for content sync but I feel rendering JSON feed in android is a bit slow. Perhaps, due to my coding or something else. Now want to try XML feed instead of JSON. Thus please let me know which type of feed (between XML and JSon.. but let me know any good feed any other else) is faster for rendering in Android?

  • How to render RSS feed in a desktop RSS reader?

    - by Thiago Moraes
Consider one feed like this: http://feeds.feedburner.com/codinghorror It has the entire content inside the description tag of the feed, so you don't need to access the website to read the post. Now I have the problem of creating an interface for a feed like this on a desktop client. What's the best way to render the text in a pleasant way to the user? My first thought was to parse the entire HTML as if I was a web browser, but that looks really hard to do in a satisfying way. Are there any better (faster) alternatives? Rephrasing: how a desktop rss client such as feeddamon parses the input to display it nicely? Does it have a web browser inside it?

  • May I remove ads from feed in my news reader app?

    - by Mahdi Ghiasi
I'm creating a News Reader app for Tablets and PCs. My app is fetching data from news sources by RSS feed of websites (in the server-side). But some of these sites are showing some advertising banners at the end of each article. Should I remove those banners from the feed? Am I legally/ethically allowed to do this? And what about If I want to put some other ads in my application? (Right at the end of each article) I mean, If I want to have my own advertising service... Update: And what if I use feed for content titles and summaries, but use other thing, like Readability API to show full article, and then put my own ads below content? (Readability gets the HTML page, and gives you a clean page without any ads and such.)

  • Should I submit my RSS feed as Google Sitemap?

    - by Svish
I currently have no sitemap for a website I'm creating. I do have an RSS feed which includes the N latest updated posts on the site. It doesn't include everything on the site though, just blog posts. Creating a full sitemap would be a bit of a hassle I think. Should I submit the feed instead? Is there a difference between using a regular sitemap and a feed? Is it important to have a sitemap? What happens when you do/don't?

  • Generating cache file for Twitter rss feed

    - by Kerri
I'm working on a site with a simple php-generated twitter box with user timeline tweets pulled from the user_timeline rss feed, and cached to a local file to cut down on loads, and as backup for when twitter goes down. I based the caching on this: http://snipplr.com/view/8156/twitter-cache/. It all seemed to be working well yesterday, but today I discovered the cache file was blank. Deleting it then loading again generated a fresh file. The code I'm using is below. I've edited it to try to get it to work with what I was already using to display the feed and probably messed something crucial up. The changes I made are the following (and I strongly believe that any of these could be the cause): - Revised the time difference code (the linked example seemed to use a custom function that wasn't included in the code) Removed the "serialize" function from the "fwrites". This is purely because I couldn't figure out how to unserialize once I loaded it in the display code. I truthfully don't understand the role that serialize plays or how it works, so I'm sure I should have kept it in. If that's the case I just need to understand where/how to deserialize in the second part of the code so that it can be parsed. Removed the $rss variable in favor of just loading up the cache file in my original tweet display code. So, here are the relevant parts of the code I used: <?php $feedURL = "http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/#######.rss"; // START CACHING $cache_file = dirname(__FILE__).'/cache/twitter_cache.rss'; // Start with the cache if(file_exists($cache_file)){ $mtime = (strtotime("now") - filemtime($cache_file)); if($mtime > 600) { $cache_rss = file_get_contents('http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/75168146.rss'); $cache_static = fopen($cache_file, 'wb'); fwrite($cache_static, $cache_rss); fclose($cache_static); } echo "<!-- twitter cache generated ".date('Y-m-d h:i:s', filemtime($cache_file))." -->"; } else { $cache_rss = file_get_contents('http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/#######.rss'); $cache_static = fopen($cache_file, 'wb'); fwrite($cache_static, $cache_rss); fclose($cache_static); } //END CACHING //START DISPLAY $doc = new DOMDocument(); $doc->load($cache_file); $arrFeeds = array(); foreach ($doc->getElementsByTagName('item') as $node) { $itemRSS = array ( 'title' => $node->getElementsByTagName('title')->item(0)->nodeValue, 'date' => $node->getElementsByTagName('pubDate')->item(0)->nodeValue ); array_push($arrFeeds, $itemRSS); } // the rest of the formatting and display code.... } ?> ETA 6/17 Nobody can help…? I'm thinking it has something to do with writing a blank cache file over a good one when twitter is down, because otherwise I imagine that this should be happening every ten minutes when the cache file is overwritten again, but it doesn't happen that frequently. I made the following change to the part where it checks how old the file is to overwrite it: $cache_rss = file_get_contents('http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/75168146.rss'); if($mtime > 600 && $cache_rss != ''){ $cache_static = fopen($cache_file, 'wb'); fwrite($cache_static, $cache_rss); fclose($cache_static); } …so now, it will only write the file if it's over ten minutes old and there's actual content retrieved from the rss page. Do you think this will work?

  • Sharepoint RSS feed description fields as elements

    - by Jay
Hello, This is my first time working with RSS but I am fluent with XML/XSL. I have a RSS feed that I am pulling from a list in Sharepoint. The sample XML is below. The RSS description element parses the various columns (Body, Expires, Attachments) that are in the Sharepoint list automatically. I know that from the list I can control which fields are included in the description, but this is not what I am looking to do. Is there any way to force the fields to come through in an XML element format instead of the CDATA that converted to HTML? For example, I may want to check a priority field and if it is important when applying the XSL I would bold red it or something. Since this is in the HTML/CDATA format it makes it messy to parse that field. <rss version="2.0"> <channel> <title>Announcements</title> <link>http://somewebsite/Announcements/Current.aspx</link> <description>RSS feed for the Announcements list.</description> <lastBuildDate>Thu, 13 Aug 2009 17:31:01 GMT</lastBuildDate> <generator>Windows SharePoint Services V3 RSS Generator</generator> <ttl>1</ttl> <image> <title>Announcements</title> <url>/_layouts/images/homepage.gif</url> <link>http://somewebsite/Announcements/Current.aspx</link> </image> <item> <title>Woohoo a post! </title> <link>http://somewebsite/Announcements/DispForm.aspx?ID=36</link> <description> <![CDATA[<div><b>Body:</b> <div> <div>The attached email was sent from chairman and CEO on Tuesday March 3, 2009.</div> <div></div></div></div> <div><b>Expires:</b> 7/30/2009</div> <div><b>Attachments:</b> <a href="http://somewebsite/Woohoo.htm">http://somewebsite/Woohoo.htm</a><br><a href=""></a></div> ]]> </description> <author>Me, Myself and I</author> <pubDate>Thu, 16 Jul 2009 18:38:32 GMT</pubDate> <guid isPermaLink="true">http://somewebsite/Announcements/DispForm.aspx?ID=69</guid> </item> </channel> </rss>

  • FullCalendar/JSON event feed problem

    - by n4rc1ssus
I am using a php/MySQL driven event feed to JSON. I am also trying to use greek html entities (i.e. &Gamma-with the semicolon) in the title for the event. Because FullCalendar will not let me see all the processies in firebug I can't see exactly what is going on but it will not render the Γ, etc. I have tried all the combinations I can think of in the php json_encode, the actual MySQL db field result. QTip which fullCalendar recommended on their site actually renders it correctly in the tip rendering. I am at a loss because this is something I really wish to use in the app if at all possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Slight Update I finally found that the JSON is being manipulated to make the & itself into &amp';' no matter what I do; so any relevant info on this could come in handy also. Thx

  • Best way to find updates in xml feed

    - by misterjinx
Hello all, I have an xml feed that I have to check periodically for updates. The xml consists of many elements and I'm looking to figure it out which is the best (and probably faster) way to find out which elements suffered updates from last time I've checked. What I think of is to check first the lastBuildDate for modifications and if it differs from the previous one to start parse the xml again. This would involve keeping each element with all of its attributes in my database. But each element can have different number of attributes as well as other nested elements. So if it would be to store each element in my database what would be the best way to keep them ? That's why I'm asking for your help :) Thank you.

  • Displaying webcam feed using opencv and python

    - by Mitch
Hi ive been trying to create a simple program with python which utilises opencv to get a video feed from my webcam and display it on the screen. I know im partly there because the window is created and the light on my webcam flicks on, but it just doesnt seem to show anything in the window. hopefully someone can explain what im doing wrong. import cv cv.NamedWindow("w1", cv.CV_WINDOW_AUTOSIZE) capture = cv.CaptureFromCAM(0) def repeat(): frame = cv.QueryFrame(capture) cv.ShowImage("w1", frame) while True: repeat() on an unrelated note, i have noticed that my webcam sometimes changes its index number in cv.CaptureFromCAM and sometimes i need to put in 0, 1 or 2 even though i only have one camera connected and i havnt unplugged it (i know because the light doesnt come on unless i change the index). is there a way to get python to determine the correct index? thanks Mitch

  • How to use YQL to merge 2 RSS feeds sorted by pubDate?

    - by jnman
Seeing that YQL is being promoted as a good way to do things, I was curious as to how to use YQL to fetch and merge 2 different feeds into one (sorted by pubDate). It's pretty trivial to fetch 2 feeds but it turns out that the feeds are just concatenated together and not merged. Here's the sample code. select channel.title,channel.link,channel.item.title,channel.item.link from xml where url in( 'http://code.flickr.com/blog/feed/rss/', 'http://feeds.delicious.com/v2/rss/codepo8?count=15', 'http://www.stevesouders.com/blog/feed/rss', 'http://www.yqlblog.net/blog/feed/', 'http://www.quirksmode.org/blog/index.xml' )

  • Add Flickr RSS feed to Page via SimplePie

    - by Bradley Bell
Hi all. I'm trying to add my recently uploaded flickr feed onto a site. I've followed tutorials with Simple Pie, but can't get what I desire. I need to be able dictate where each image will sit in multiple DIV's rather than just one repeated DIV. Here is a website which seems to do what I want.. wearecondiment.com It basically updates the Static URL inside each seperate DIV.. I cant find the PHP anywhere in there code. Here is the site I plan to add this feature to.. "http://www.openyourheart.org.uk" I'll make a new page and template of square DIVs where each photo will sit. The aim of it will basically be so that people can upload their own images to display in the campaign and automatically appear on the site. It would also be great if somehow the image could crop to the size of each square/rectangle. Any ideas? Cheers, Bradley
