  • How to determine edges in an images optimally?

    - by SorinA.
    I recently was put in front of the problem of cropping and resizing images. I needed to crop the 'main content' of an image for example if i had an image similar to this: the result should be an image with the msn content without the white margins(left& right). I search on the X axis for the first and last color change and on the Y axis the same thing. The problem is that traversing the image line by line takes a while..for an image that is 2000x1600px it takes up to 2 seconds to return the CropRect = x1,y1,x2,y2 data. I tried to make for each coordinate a traversal and stop on the first value found but it didn't work in all test cases..sometimes the returned data wasn't the expected one and the duration of the operations was similar.. Any idea how to cut down the traversal time and discovery of the rectangle round the 'main content'? public static CropRect EdgeDetection(Bitmap Image, float Threshold) { CropRect cropRectangle = new CropRect(); int lowestX = 0; int lowestY = 0; int largestX = 0; int largestY = 0; lowestX = Image.Width; lowestY = Image.Height; //find the lowest X bound; for (int y = 0; y < Image.Height - 1; ++y) { for (int x = 0; x < Image.Width - 1; ++x) { Color currentColor = Image.GetPixel(x, y); Color tempXcolor = Image.GetPixel(x + 1, y); Color tempYColor = Image.GetPixel(x, y + 1); if ((Math.Sqrt(((currentColor.R - tempXcolor.R) * (currentColor.R - tempXcolor.R)) + ((currentColor.G - tempXcolor.G) * (currentColor.G - tempXcolor.G)) + ((currentColor.B - tempXcolor.B) * (currentColor.B - tempXcolor.B))) > Threshold)) { if (lowestX > x) lowestX = x; if (largestX < x) largestX = x; } if ((Math.Sqrt(((currentColor.R - tempYColor.R) * (currentColor.R - tempYColor.R)) + ((currentColor.G - tempYColor.G) * (currentColor.G - tempYColor.G)) + ((currentColor.B - tempYColor.B) * (currentColor.B - tempYColor.B))) > Threshold)) { if (lowestY > y) lowestY = y; if (largestY < y) largestY = y; } } } if (lowestX < Image.Width / 4) cropRectangle.X = lowestX - 3 > 0 ? lowestX - 3 : 0; else cropRectangle.X = 0; if (lowestY < Image.Height / 4) cropRectangle.Y = lowestY - 3 > 0 ? lowestY - 3 : 0; else cropRectangle.Y = 0; cropRectangle.Width = largestX - lowestX + 8 > Image.Width ? Image.Width : largestX - lowestX + 8; cropRectangle.Height = largestY + 8 > Image.Height ? Image.Height - lowestY : largestY - lowestY + 8; return cropRectangle; } }

  • list images from directory by function

    - by osc2nuke
    i'm using this function: function getmyimages($qid){ $imgdir = 'modules/Projects/uploaded_project_images/'. $qid .''; // the directory, where your images are stored $allowed_types = array('png','jpg','jpeg','gif'); // list of filetypes you want to show $dimg = opendir($imgdir); while($imgfile = readdir($dimg)) { if(in_array(strtolower(substr($imgfile,-3)),$allowed_types)) { $a_img[] = $imgfile; sort($a_img); reset ($a_img); } } $totimg = count($a_img); // total image number for($x=0; $x < $totimg; $x++) { $size = getimagesize($imgdir.'/'.$a_img[$x]); // do whatever $halfwidth = ceil($size[0]/2); $halfheight = ceil($size[1]/2); $mytest = 'name: '.$a_img[$x].' width: '.$size[0].' height: '.$size[1].'<br /><a href="'. $imgdir .'/'.$a_img[$x].'">'. $a_img[$x].   • Is this way the best solution to read and save images from Rss Feeds?

    - by Keyne
    Hi, I've build a "RSS Feed Reader" module to my application, and for every post with images in the content, I get the first that matches a specific size and then I save for future use as reference to the posts. When processing, everything works properly except when more then 10 images are saved at the same time (This value is variable). I got an 404 error after a while saving the images. Some images are saved, but not all of them. If I run the app in my local server, everything work as expected (using set_timeout(0) to avoid timeout errors). Currently my application is hosted at dreamhost and I'm using Zend Framework. I'm not sure if the problem is specif for Zend Framework applications, so I didn't put any tags about. I've had this problem another time with other projects hosted at dreamhost. They seems to limitate memory for operations like that. My question is: There is a better way to save images then this (maybe in background? a limited amount per operation?): require_once(APPLICATION_PATH . '/../library/simplehtmldom/simple_html_dom.php'); $TableFeeds = new Model_DbTable_Feeds(); $Feeds = $TableFeeds->fetchAll(); foreach($Feeds as $Feed) { $entries = Zend_Feed_Reader::import($Feed->link); $lastEntry = $this->getLastEntry($Feed->id); if($lastEntry) { $lastDate = new Zend_Date($lastEntry->created_at, Zend_Date::ISO_8601); } foreach ($entries as $entry) { if($lastDate) { if(strtotime($lastDate->get('y-M-d H:m:s')) >= strtotime($entry->getDateCreated()->get('y-M-d H:m:s'))) { break; } } $Category = new Model_DbTable_Categorias(); $availableCategories = $Category->getList('slug'); $categoria_id = false; foreach ($categories as $cat) { if(!empty($cat) && !$categoria_id) { $slug = Zf_Convert::slugfy($cat); if($availableCategories[$Feed->categoria_id] == $slug) { $categoria_id = $Feed->categoria_id; break; } if(in_array($slug,$availableCategories)) { $categoria_id = array_search($slug,$availableCategories); break; } } } if(!$categoria_id) { $categoria_id = $Feed->categoria_id; } // Cadastra a entrada $data = array( 'categoria_id' => $categoria_id, 'feed_id' => $Feed->id, 'titulo' => $entry->getTitle(), 'slug' => Zf_Convert::slugfy($entry->getTitle()), 'created_at' => $entry->getDateCreated()->get(Zend_Date::ISO_8601), 'link' => $entry->getLink(), 'html' => $entry->getContent(), 'tags' => $tags ); $entry_id = $this->insert($data); if($categoria_id == 2) { set_time_limit(0); $post_dom = str_get_dom($entry->getContent()); $img_tags = $post_dom->find('img'); $images = array(); foreach($img_tags as $image) { $images[] = $image->src; } if(count($images)) { $i = 0; $saved = false; while($images[$i] && !$saved) { $src = $images[$i]; $imagem = Zf_Image::create($src); $size = $imagem->getCurrentDimensions(); if($size['width'] >= 150 && $size['height'] >= 200) { $imagem->adaptiveResize(200,200); $imagem->save(PUBLIC_PATH . '/img/feeds/manchetes/' . $entry_id . '.jpg'); $saved = true; $this->update(array('imagemChamada' => 1),'id =' . $entry_id); } $i++; } } } } } }

  • Why can't I wrap text around grouped images in Word?

    - by Ivo Flipse
    When I paste two images into Microsoft Word and I set Wrap Text to Square and then group them so they stick nicely together, I can no longer Wrap Text around this newly grouped image. Any explanation to why text wrapping is disabled for grouped images? Note: if I don't change the Wrap Text option, I can't group them. This is for Word 2010 on Windows 7, but I've had this problem with every version of Word.

  • How to compress a huge amount of PNG images?

    - by T Pops
    At work, on certain projects I have to manage a lot of images. Most of the time PNG files work the best for what I'm doing. With such a huge amount of images, I've tried using PNG compression with PNG Gauntlet but sometimes the file doesn't really change and sometimes PNG Gauntlet reports it would've made the filesize bigger! Am I just maxing out the compression or is there something more I can do?

  • How to improve performance of map that loads new overlay images

    - by anthonysomerset
    I have inherited a website to maintain that uses a html map overlaying a real map to link specific countries to specific pages. previously it loaded the default map image, then with some javascript it would change the image src to an image with that particular country in a different colour on mouseover and reset the image source back to the original image on mouse out to make maintenance (adding new countries) easier i made the initial map a background image by utilising some CSS for the div tag, and then created new images for each country which only had that countries hightlight so that the images remain fairly small. this works great but theres one issue which is particularly noticeable on slower internet connections when you hover over a country if you dont have the image file in your browser cache or downloaded it wont load the image unless you hover over another country and then back onto the first country - i guess this is due to the image having to manually be downloaded on first hover. My question: is it possible to force the load of these extra images AFTER the page and all the other assets have finished loading so that this behaviour is all but eliminated? the html code for the MAP is as follows: <div class="gtmap"><img id="Image-Maps_6200909211657061" src="<?php echo cdnhttpsCheck(); • Image caching when rendering the same images on different pages

    - by HelpNeeder
    I'm told to think about caching of images that will be displayed on the page. The images will be repeated throughout the website on different pages and I'm told to figure out the best way to cache these images. There could be few to dozen of images on single page. Here's few questions: Will browser caching work to display the same images across different web pages? Should I rather store images in stringified form in a memory instead, using JavaScript arrays? Store them on hard drive using 'localStorage'? What would be easiest yet best option for this? Are there any other alternatives? How to force cache? Any other information would be greatly appreciated...

  • PHP readfile for force downloading files and images

    I want to send files through php using readfile() What i've noticed is that readfile forces a download, but what if i want to show an image in the browser and not force a download? Would readfile still force download even if the file is an image? If it does, is there a solution so i can use tags with it when the file is an image? Thanks!

  • Displaying local images in the web browser control

    - by RichardK9
    Hi, I am writing a Windows Forms application and am creating a report for users to view in the webBrowser control. The problem is that it does not seem to display an image which is situated on my local hard drive, it just display the "broken image" red cross symbol. The path of the image is correct and when I view the source code of the generated html in either Firefox or Chrome it works but not in Internet Explorer (which I presume it what is used for this webBrowser control). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Richard.

  • Working with images (CGImage), exif data, and file icons

    - by Nick
    What I am trying to do (under 10.6).... I have an image (jpeg) that includes an icon in the image file (that is you see an icon based on the image in the file, as opposed to a generic jpeg icon in file open dialogs in a program). I wish to edit the exif metadata, save it back to the image in a new file. Ideally I would like to save this back to an exact copy of the file (i.e. preserving any custom embedded icons created etc.), however, in my hands the icon is lost. My code (some bits removed for ease of reading): // set up source ref I THINK THE PROBLEM IS HERE - NOT GRABBING THE INITIAL DATA CGImageSourceRef source = CGImageSourceCreateWithURL( (CFURLRef) URL,NULL); // snag metadata NSDictionary *metadata = (NSDictionary *) CGImageSourceCopyPropertiesAtIndex(source,0,NULL); // make metadata mutable NSMutableDictionary *metadataAsMutable = [[metadata mutableCopy] autorelease]; // grab exif NSMutableDictionary *EXIFDictionary = [[[metadata objectForKey:(NSString *)kCGImagePropertyExifDictionary] mutableCopy] autorelease]; << edit exif >> // add back edited exif [metadataAsMutable setObject:EXIFDictionary forKey:(NSString *)kCGImagePropertyExifDictionary]; // get source type CFStringRef UTI = CGImageSourceGetType(source); // set up write data NSMutableData *data = [NSMutableData data]; CGImageDestinationRef destination = CGImageDestinationCreateWithData((CFMutableDataRef)data,UTI,1,NULL); //add the image plus modified metadata PROBLEM HERE? NOT ADDING THE ICON CGImageDestinationAddImageFromSource(destination,source,0, (CFDictionaryRef) metadataAsMutable); // write to data BOOL success = NO; success = CGImageDestinationFinalize(destination); // save data to disk [data writeToURL:saveURL atomically:YES]; //cleanup CFRelease(destination); CFRelease(source); I don't know if this is really a question of image handling, file handing, post-save processing (I could use sip), or me just being think (I suspect the last). • Image rendering on browser or temporary images?

    - by Muralha
    I'm trying to make a statistics page where it will show several data and charts. The charts need to be pictures so that the user can save it/drag-and-drop to his/her personal reports. I'm using Gruff Graphs for Ruby to produce the charts but I don't know the best way to display the results safe and protected. Some of my ideas/tries are: save the chart to a file (jpg, png)? problem: data is available to anyone (don't have access to cron, to delete data from time to time) render in the browser (has to work on IE)? Use javascript (Raphaël—JavaScript Library) or Google API and output a PDF report (need plugin or gem, right)? use send_data? i've tried to output other way than inline, because I needs to show other data, is it possible? Thanks for any help.

  • System.Drawing.Image for Images in Business Objects?

    - by Mudu
    Hi Folks I'd like to store an image in a business object. In MSDN I saw that the System.Drawing-namespace provides lots of GDI+-features, etc. Is it okay to store an Image in an System.Drawing.Image class in business layer (which is a class library "only"), and thus including a reference to System.Drawing too? I slightly feel just kind of bad doing that, 'cause it seems like I have UI-specific references in business code. Moreover, the code could become unnecessarily platform-dependant (though this is only a problem in theory, because we do not develop for multiple platforms). If it isn't right that way, which type would fit best? Thank you for any response! Matthias

  • Can you overlay transparent images in Blackberry Apps?

    - by Greg
    I have a very simple application that has one screen and one button. The main screen has a verticalFieldManager with a BitmapField inside it, and one button beneath the bitmap. I want to be able to overlay another image on top of this when the user clicks a button. The overlay image is a PNG with transparent background, and this is important for design, so I can't use popupscreen or a new screen because the backgrounds are always white by default, and I've heard alpha doesn't really do the trick. I guess what I'm asking is if anyone knows a simple way to... A) take a standard verticalFieldManager and overlay a PNG on top of the inner contents B) overlay a PNG over the screen, no matter the contents The basic functionality of this app was intended to be - show an image. on click, show another overlaid on top. on click again, remove the popup image. I haven't found anything that addresses something like this online, but I have read of people doing similar things that utilize popupscreen and new screens in a way I don't need to do. Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks

    I am trying to understand why after croping an image in .NET i end up with an image 3 times the size of the original image. Listed below is the code i am using to crop the image Private Shared Function CropImage(ByVal img As Image, ByVal cropArea As Rectangle) As Image Dim bmpImage As Bitmap = New Bitmap(img) Dim bmpCrop As Bitmap = bmpImage.Clone(cropArea, img.PixelFormat) Return CType(bmpCrop, Image) End Function where img is the original image loaded from file into an image object. • Images in Applet not showing in web page

    - by Leanne C
    I am trying to display a JPEG image and a moving dot on a Java applet which I am using on a web based application. However, when I run the applet it works fine, but when I display the applet from the JSP page, I get the moving dot but not the JPEG image. Is there a specific folder where the JPEG needs to be? These are the 2 methods i use for drawing the picture and the moving dot on the screen. public class mapplet extends Applet implements Runnable { int x_pos = 10; int y_pos = 100; int radius = 20; Image img, img2; Graphics gr; URL base; MediaTracker m; @Override public void init() { mt = new MediaTracker(this); try { //getDocumentbase gets the applet path. base = getCodeBase(); img = getImage(base, "picture.jpg"); m.addImage(img, 1); m.waitForAll(); } catch (InterruptedException ex) { Logger.getLogger(movement.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } public void paint (Graphics g) { g.drawImage(img, 0, 0, this); // set color g.setColor (Color.red); // paint a filled colored circle g.fillOval (x_pos - radius, y_pos - radius, 2 * radius, 2 * radius); } The code one below is the call from the jsp page <applet archive="mapplet.jar" code="myapplets/mapplet.class" width=350 height=200> </applet> The jar file and the picture are in the same folder as the jsp page, and there is also a folder containing the contents of the class and image of the applet in the web section of the application. The applet loads fine however the picture doesn't display. I think it's not the code but the location of the picture that is causing a problem. Thanks

  • Where can one find free software icons / images?

    - by mmattax
    This may not be directly related to programming, but I always find it hard to get quality icons that can be used for software. I currently have the need for some type of "green checkmark image", and I always seem to be looking for print, save, delete types of icons... Anybody have good resources? Note: I rather not be stealing someone's intellectual property.

  • Images saved with D3DXSaveSurfaceToFile will open in Paint, not Photoshop

    - by bsruth
    I'm using D3DXSaveSurfaceToFile to save windowed Direct3D 9 surfaces to PNG, BMP and JPG files. There are no errors returned from the D3DXSaveSurfaceToFile call and all files open fine in Windows Photo Viewer and Paint. But they will not open in a higher end image editing program such as Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop. The error messages from these programs basically say that the file is corrupted. If I open the files in Paint and then save them in the same file format with a different file name, then they'll open fine in the other programs. This leads me to believe that D3DXSaveSurfaceToFile is writing out non-standard versions of these file formats. Is there some way I can get this function to write out files that can be opened in programs like Photoshop without the intermediate step of resaving the files in Paint? Or is there another function I should be using that does a better job of saving a Direct3D surfaces to an image?

  • How to Store and Retrieve Images Using MsSQL (Server Management Studio)

    - by Joe Majewski
    I am having difficulties when trying to insert files into an MsSQL database. I'll try to break this down as best as I can: What data type should I be using to store image files (jpeg/png/gif/etc)? Right now my table is using the image data type, but I am curious if varbinary would be a better option. How would I go about inserting the image into the database? Does Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio have any built in functions that allow insertions of files into tables? If so, how is that done? Also, how could this be done through the use of an HTML form with PHP handling the input data and placing it into the table? How would I fetch the image from the table and display it on the page? I understand how to SELECT the cell's contents, but how would I go about translating that into a picture. Would I have to have a header(Content type: image/jpeg)? I have no problem doing any of these things with MySQL, but the MsSQL environment is still new to me, and I am working on a project for my job that requires the use of stored procedures to grab various data. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you very much for your responses!

  • PHP, manipulating images and thumbnails?

    - by learner.php
    I am using php and mysql. I allow my registered users to upload photos, the photos are store in filesystem format, then I will keep the original/max size of : width: 1600px and heigh: 1200px. In the user profile page, I would like to display the image, it maybe one of the 5 types of thumnails: 500x500, 300x300, 200x200, 100x100 or 50x50. What is the best way to create the thumbnails, here are my current solutions: I am thinking of create 1 thumbnail, then from that thumbnail, i will resize in [img src="" width="XX"] tag, alternatively, store the different thumbnails size in database, then get and display it Create 5 thumbnails for each photos? (I am afraid this is a bad way) Whats the best practices?

    I have a web service that I just coded up that drops an image (png) into my SQL Server 2008 database as a varbinary. Is there a easy tool out there that can let me see that image? I could code up a client, but I would rather just use a tool if one exists.

  • UIScrollView with over 100 images

    - by tikkips
    I have implemented a UIScrollView on the iPhone that contains 100 image slots which I fill only the currently visible page, the one before it, and the one after it as the user scrolls. Everything works fine until we get up to image 97 or 98, the entire view disappears! The only thing I can do at that point is navigate back to the previous view. Nothing works as far as the scroll view after this. I am not receiving any memory warnings an the rest of the app functions fine. Any ideas? Has anyone created a UIScrollView in paging mode with over 100 pages? Rick
