• Opening port 80 in router has no results

  A friend of mine has a ADSL modem and I need to forward some ports. I have already forwarded the 1521 port (Oracle) and it's working fine. Now I need to forward the port 80. I already set up his IIS bindings to this port, and also forwarded the port like this video shows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLKD-fyexoo So I think I did everything correctly. The local IP address is also the same as the machine where the IIS server is running. I'm sorry, but I can't post images since i don't have 10 points :( Somehow I can't forward this port, yougetsignal.com keeps saying that the door is closed. When I try to open the port, the Control Panel says me that I have to access the control panel in the 8080 port, because the 80 port will be open. Ok, that's fine. But I'm still able to access it in the 80 port, and when I try to access it in the 8080 port, it doesn't work. I'm trying it with the TPLINK 8816, but I also tried to open it in the Opticom DsLink 279, and it didn't worked (using another machine), I got the exact same results. He has a dynamic IP address, but he is also using No-ip, so I can always access his Oracle database in a certain static address. The 1521 port is open. I also tried to disable the firewall in Windows, but that makes no sense to me, since the router doesn't really open the port 80. Clearly I'm missing something. I have never done it in my life, so I dont know how to proceed. Restarting the router was the first I did, no results. I'm accessing his laptop through TeamViewer, so I'm testing the port outside his local network. Edit: My ISP says that they allow to open ports, and the 1521 port is opened. What could I do to open the 80 port?

• Port forwarding not working properly

  I'm trying to host a small web server from my home network; however, I have not been able to successfully port forward ports to the local server. My current network topology looks like this: Cable Modem/Router - Secondary Wireless Router - Many computers (including server) The modem/router I'm using is a Cisco (Scientific Atlantic) DPC2100, provided by my ISP. The wireless router that I'm using as the central hub to my home network is a Linksys E3000. The computer being used as a server is running Ubuntu 10.04 Server Edition. The main issue is that I can't access the server remotely, using my WAN IP address. I have port forwarded my wireless router; however, I believe that I need to somehow set my modem to bridge mode. As far as I can tell though, this isn't possible. Here are the various IP address settings: DPC2100 WAN: 69.xxx.xxx.xxx Internal IP: 192.168.100.1 Internal Network: 192.168.7.0 E3000 IP Address: 192.168.7.2 Gateway: 192.168.7.1 Internal IP: 192.168.1.1 Internal Network: 192.168.1.0 Server IP Address: 192.168.1.123 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 Now I can do an nmap at various nodes, and here are the results (from the server): nmap localhost: 22,25,53,80,110,139,143,445,631,993,995,3306,5432,8080 open nmap 192.168.7.2: 22,25,80 (filtered),110,139,445 open (ports I have forwarded in the E3000)* nmap 69.xxx.xxx.xxx: 1720 open *For some reason, I can SSH into the server at 192.168.7.2, but not view the website. Here are also some other settings: /etc/hosts/ 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 servername ::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback fe00::0 ip6-localnet ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix ff02::1 ip6-allnodes ff02::2 ip6-allrouters /etc/apache2/sites-available/default snippet <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /srv/www/ <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory /var/www/> ... </Directory> ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ <Directory "/usr/lib/cgi-bin"> ... </Directory> ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/error.log LogLevel warn CustomLog /var/log/apache2/access.log combined Alias /doc/ "/usr/share/doc/" <Directory "/usr/share/doc/"> ... </Directory> </VirtualHost> Let me know if you need any other information; some stuff probably slipped my mind.

• SharePoint 2010 – SQL Server has an unsupported version 10.0.2531.0

  I am trying to perform a database attach upgrade to SharePoint Foundation 2010. At this point I am trying to attach the content database to a Web application by using Windows Powershell: Mount-SPContentDatabase -Name <DatabaseName> -DatabaseServer <ServerName> -WebApplication <URL> [-Updateuserexperience] I am following the directions from this TechNet article: Attach databases and upgrade to SharePoint Foundation 2010.  When I go to mount the content database I am receiving this error: Mount-SPContentDatabase : Could not connect to [DATABASE_SERVER] using integrated security: SQL server at [DATABASE_SERVER] has an unsupported version 10.0.2531.0. Please refer to “http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=165761” for information on the minimum required SQL Server versions and how to download them. At first this did not make sense because the default SharePoint Foundation 2010 website was running just fine.  But then I realized that the default SharePoint Foundation site runs off of SQL Server Express and that I had just installed SQL Server Web Edition (since the database is greater than 4GB) and restored the database to this version of SQL Server. Checking the documentation link above I see that SharePoint Server 2010 requires a 64-bit edition of SQL Server with the minimum required SQL Server versions as follows: SQL Server 2008 Express Edition Service Pack 1, version number 10.0.2531 SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 cumulative update package 3, version number 9.00.4220.00 SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 cumulative update package 2, version number 10.00.2714.00 The version of SQL Server 2008 Web Edition with Service Pack 1 (the version I installed on this machine) is 10.0.2531.0. SELECT @@VERSION: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP1) - 10.0.2531.0 (X64)   Mar 29 2009 10:11:52   Copyright (c) 1988-2008 Microsoft Corporation  Web Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7600: ) (VM) But I had to read the article several times since the minimum version number for SQL Server Express is 10.0.2531.0.  At first I thought I was good with the version of SQL Server 2008 Web that I had installed, also 10.0.2531.0.  But then I read further to see that there is a cumulative update (hotfix) for SQL Server 2008 SP1 (NOT the Express edition) that is required for SharePoint 2010 and will bump the version number to 10.0.2714.00. So the solution was to install the Cumulative update package 2 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 on my SQL Server 2008 Web Edition to allow SharePoint 2010 to work with SQL Server 2008 (other than the SQL Server 2008 Express version). • Install SharePoint 2013 on a two server farm

  When SharePoint 2010 was released, I published an article on how to install SharePoint on a two server farm. SharePoint 2013 brings lots of improvements to the topologies, but still supports two-server architecture. Be noted that “two-server architecture” is meant for small implementations with limited service applications. Refer the below link to understand more about the SharePoint architecture http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/fp123594.aspx A two tier farm consists of a database server and a web/application server as follows. In this article I am going to explain how to install SharePoint in a two server farm. I prepared 2 servers, both of them joined to a domain(SP2013Domain), and in one server I installed SQL Server 2012 (Server name: SP2013_DB). Now I am going to install SharePoint 2013 in the second server (Server Name: SP2013). The following domain accounts are created for the installation.   User Account Purpose Server roles required SQLService - SQL Server service account - This account is used as the service account for SQL Server. - domain user account / local account spSetup - You will be running SharePoint setup and SharePoint products and configuration wizard using this account. -domain user account - Member of the Administrators group on each server on which Setup is run(In our case SP2013) - SQL Server login on the computer running SQL Server - Member of the Server admin SQL Server security role spDataaccess - Configure and manage server farm. This - Application pool identity for central admin website - Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Workflow Timer Service Domain user account (Other permissions will be set to this account automatically)   The above are the minimum list of accounts needed for SharePoint 2013 installation. Now you need additional accounts for services, application pool identities for web applications etc. Refer the service accounts requirements for SharePoint from the below link. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263445.aspx In order to install SharePoint 2013 login to the server using setup account(spsetup). Now run the setup from the installation media. First you need to install the pre-requisites. During the installation process, the server may restart several times. The installation wizard will guide you through the installation. In the next step, you need to agree on the terms and conditions as usual. Once you click next, the installation will start immediately. The installation wizard will let you know the progress of the installation. During the installation you may receive notifications to restart the server, you need to just click the finish button so that the system will be restarted. Once all the pre-requisites are installed, you will get the success message as below. Click finish to close the dialog. Now from the media, run the setup again and this time you choose install SharePoint server. In the next screen, you need to enter the product key, and then click continue. Now you need to agree on the terms and conditions for SharePoint 2013, and click continue. Choose the file location as per your policies and click on the install now button. You will see the installation progress. Once completed, you will see the installation completed dialog. Make sure you select the run products and configuration wizard option and click close. From the start screen, click next to start the configuration wizard. You will receive warning telling you some of the services will be stopped during the installation. Select “create new server farm” radio button and click next. In the next step, you need to enter the configuration database settings. Enter the database server details and then specify the database access account. You need to specify the farm account(spdataaccess). The wizard will grant additional privileges to the account as needed. In the next step you need to specify the passphrase, you need to note this as you need this passphrase if you add additional server to the farm. In the next step, you need to enter the central administration website port and security settings. You can choose a port or just keep it as suggested by the wizard. Click next, you will see the summary of what you have been selected. Verify the selected settings and if you want to change any, just click back and change them, or click continue to start the configuration. The configuration may take some time, you can view the progress, in case of any error, you will get the log file, you need to fix any error and again start the configuration wizard. Once the configuration successful, you will see the success message. Just click finish. Now you can browse the central administration website. It is good to check the health analyzer to review whether there are any errors/warnings. No warnings/errors indicate a good installation. Two-Server architecture is the least configuration for production environments. For small firms with less number of employees can implement SharePoint 2013 using this topology and as the workload increases, they can add more servers to the farm without reconstructing everything.

• moving to a new dedicated server and need advice on the new setup

  I currently have a dedicated server that we have outgrown and we are moving to another server. Our current setup was a 8gb W2008R2 server running a W2008R2 IIS virtual machine using VMWare. We are moving to a 2 cpu 24 gb server with W2012 R2 on Hyper-V. On our virtual machine we are running iis 7.5 and sql server. Sql Server seems to want to eat up all the memory so I had to cap it at 2gb, which doesn't seem sufficient. My question is, when I move the virtual machine to the new server, should I create 2 virtual machines, one for sql server and one for IIS? Or should I leave them both on the same virtual machine? Or even, put the Sql Server on the dedicated server and run the IIS in the vm? I'd like some input on how this should be done, I've not got the experience needed to make the right call. Thanks!

• Web Interfaces not opening even after Port Forwarding is said to be working!

  I'm encountering this strange problem which has baffled me to the ground, and which I haven't encountered even after years of doing port forwarding .. ! I am hoping somebody here can help me solve this mystery .. :) My network configuration is as follows: I have a DSL modem (custom made and branded by my ISP) which is receiving a DSL stream ... it has an external IP which is visible to the world, say, 11.22.33.44 ... This modem has DHCP enabled, has an internal IP for itself, which is 192.168.1.1 .. it is connected to 2 laptops via and ethernet cable .. Laptop 1 has IP 192.168.1.2, and Laptop 2 has IP 192.168.1.3 ... On Laptop 1, two applications are running, jDownloader and Media Player Classic, which have their web interfaces on ports 8765 and 13579, respectively ... I can access both of these web interfaces from Laptop 2 by opening these addresses: 192.1681.2:8765 and 192.168.1.2:13579 ... both of their web interfaces open up, meaning the web interfaces are working fine .. Moving on, I now want to access these web interfaces from outside my network as well, and so I've configured port forwarding in my PTCL modem to forward all traffic on ports between 8000 and 14000 (both TCP and UDP) to IP 192.168.1.2 ... I have verified that port forwarding is working by testing it using PortForward.com's port checker tool, and this website too: [URL]http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/[/URL] When I use the website, if I'm running the applications on Laptop 2, the website reports that the port is open .. if I then close the application, the website reports the port is closed ... This makes sense as nothing is listening on my machine in the latter case .. Also, if I disable port forwarding in my modem, again, the website reports the port is closed ... so, the website's results seem to be okay ... Same of the above can be said when I'm used PortForward.com's port checker tool ... So again, everything okay so far ... Now, here comes the problem !! ... Despite the above tools reporting that port forwarding is working, I am unable to open the web interfaces from outside my network ... So for example, if I tried to browse 11.22.33.44:8765 or 11.22.33.44:13579, nothing opens in my browser ... But if I accessed these web server's locally from Laptop 3, by typing in 192.168.1.2:8765 or 192.168.1.2:13579, they opened ... So where is the problem here ?? The tools report unanimously that port forwarding is working, and yet I am unable to open the web interfaces from outside the network .. Also note that I have disabled the firewall from my computer, and have also made sure that any option in the above programs (whose web interfaces I am trying to open) that says only local connections are to be accepted, is disabled ... So whats the problem ... ?!! Any ideas ??

• Routes for IIS Classic and Integrated Mode

       Introduction:             ASP.NET MVC Routing feature makes it very easy to provide clean URLs. You just need to configure routes in global.asax file to create an application with clean URLs. In most cases you define routes works in IIS 6, IIS 7 (or IIS 7.5) Classic and Integrated mode. But in some cases your routes may only works in IIS 7 Integrated mode, like in the case of using extension less URLs in IIS 6 without a wildcard extension map. So in this article I will show you how to create different routes which works in IIS 6 and IIS 7 Classic and Integrated mode.       Description:             Let's say that you need to create an application which must work both in Classic and Integrated mode. Also you have no control to setup a wildcard extension map in IIS. So you need to create two routes. One with extension less URL for Integrated mode and one with a URL with an extension for Classic Mode.   routes.MapRoute( "DefaultClassic", // Route name "{controller}.aspx/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } // Parameter defaults ); routes.MapRoute( "DefaultIntegrated", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } // Parameter defaults );               Now you have set up two routes, one for Integrated mode and one for Classic mode. Now you only need to ensure that Integrated mode route should only match if the application is running in Integrated mode and Classic mode route should only match if the application is running in Classic mode. For making this work you need to create two custom constraint for Integrated and Classic mode. So replace the above routes with these routes,     routes.MapRoute( "DefaultClassic", // Route name "{controller}.aspx/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional }, // Parameter defaults new { mode = new ClassicModeConstraint() }// Constraints ); routes.MapRoute( "DefaultIntegrated", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional }, // Parameter defaults new { mode = new IntegratedModeConstraint() }// Constraints );            The first route which is for Classic mode adds a ClassicModeConstraint and second route which is for Integrated mode adds a IntegratedModeConstraint. Next you need to add the implementation of these constraint classes.     public class ClassicModeConstraint : IRouteConstraint { public bool Match(HttpContextBase httpContext, Route route, string parameterName, RouteValueDictionary values, RouteDirection routeDirection) { return !HttpRuntime.UsingIntegratedPipeline; } } public class IntegratedModeConstraint : IRouteConstraint { public bool Match(HttpContextBase httpContext, Route route, string parameterName, RouteValueDictionary values, RouteDirection routeDirection) { return HttpRuntime.UsingIntegratedPipeline; } }             HttpRuntime.UsingIntegratedPipeline returns true if the application is running on Integrated mode; otherwise, it returns false. So routes for Integrated mode only matched when the application is running on Integrated mode and routes for Classic mode only matched when the application is not running on Integrated mode.       Summary:             During developing applications, sometimes developers are not sure that whether this application will be host on IIS 6 or IIS 7 (or IIS 7.5) Integrated mode or Classic mode. So it's a good idea to create separate routes for both Classic and Integrated mode so that your application will use extension less URLs where possible and use URLs with an extension where it is not possible to use extension less URLs. • Weblogic EJB calls start to fail under moderate load with OptionalDataException

  Our system setup consists of two Weblogic 10.3 servers: one hosts the presentation layer and the other hosts the EJBs. Some sources suggest that this might be related to cluster multicast port being misconfigured. However, these servers do not belong to a cluster. Booting the EJB server always temporarily resolves the issue, but the issue seems to occur again after some time. Any ideas?
