• Getting Android drivers to work on Windows 8 Community Preview

  I made a post about this on android.stackexchange.com, and they referred me to here. I have an HTC Flyer and a Motorola Droid X, and for both, I've been unable to connect to USB debugging to do Android development. With the Motorola Droid X, the MotoHelper installer won't run, saying that I'm running an Unknown OS Version. With the HTC Flyer, HTC's Sync software installs successfully, but again the device doesn't connect. I realize that this is beta software, but is there anything that I can do to get this working? I've been relying on switching back to my laptop running Linux to test out my Android builds on the device. Of course, I'm not in any production environment - just playing around with the new OS, but not being able to write code on it makes less fun.

• Dell Studio 15 Broadcom wireless drivers not working in Linux Mint

  I installed Linux Mint 12 on my Dell Studio 15 and everything worked perfectly up until I tried updating the STA Driver for the Broadcom (BCM4312) wireless controller. I've tried these bash commands in order and I still don't have wireless. sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer I've also tried uninstalling everything with synaptic package manager including broadcom-sta-common and broadcom-sta-source, then restarting and running the above commands which didn't work either. What's the best way to do this on a Dell Studio 15?

• Installing drivers for switchable graphics

  I recently bought a laptop that came with Windows 7 64-bit installed. I have some older (16-bit and 32-bit) software that doesn't work with 64-bit Windows, but works just fine with 32-bit. Since I also wanted to get rid of all of the pre-installed spam, I decided to wipe the hard drive and install a fresh copy of Windows 7 32-bit. I can't get the graphics cards working. This laptop uses switchable graphics, an Intel card and a Radeon card. I first tried installing this driver from Intel, which works for the Intel card. Of course, the Radeon card doesn't work with this driver and I need it for some of the newer games I have. I also tried this driver. Windows's device manager will recognize the Radeon card, but it will still use the Intel card. Also, even though that package says it contains the Intel driver, the Intel card still isn't properly recognized by Windows (leaving me with a nasty 800x600 resolution). On top of that, the Catalyst Control Center won't open (saying "The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter") I tried installing HP's driver then installing Intel's driver on top of it. Device manager will then recognize both graphics cards properly. However, the laptop still uses the Intel card. The CCC still won't start (saying the same thing as before) and I can't find any of 'switching' graphics cards. Before formatting, I could right-click the desktop and click "Configure Switchable Graphics" This option hasn't been in the context menu regardless of what driver(s) I've installed. After some research, I found out that this menu entry runs the command "cli.exe Start PowerXpressHybrid" I've tried manually running this command, but I get the same unsupported message from CCC. So, does anyone know how I can get this working? I would like to be able to switch between the Intel and Radeon. But, if there's some way to disable the Intel and use only the Radeon, that would be fine I dual-boot with Linux (framebuffer uses the Intel, haven't even tried getting X set up yet) Here's the output of lspci # lspci -v | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc NI Seymour [AMD Radeon HD 6470M] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) The laptop is a HP Pavilion g6t-1d00. After a fresh install of Windows 7, I installed the HP driver (the one linked above). Then, there's an optional Windows update I installed (don't remember the exact name, but it'll stick out).   We are using Cables Unlimited USB-2925 USB-to-Dual-DB9 serial cables, which use the Moschip MCS7720 controller. We have downloaded the newest driver from http://www.moschip.com/mcs7720.php, but that driver was last updated in 2005. It does not seem to be working with Macs running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. We have sent emails to the support addresses for both Cables Unlimited and Moschip. Cables Unlimited says they are checking with Moschip. No responses from Moschip yet. Does anyone know of any updates for this driver, or are there any ways to get the driver to work with Snow Leopard?

• Running hardware with only 32bit drivers in 64bit windows

  Recently we had to upgrade a system to handle added HD IP cameras. This upgrade involved an entirely new computer build with the exception of a rather pricey Geovision DVR (PCI/GV1480 series). Apparently while these cards do support Windows 7, they do not support Windows 7 x64. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here trying to figure out how we can remedy this, is there a virtualization solution that will allow devices with driver issues to passthru to the Guest OS? I was thinking XPMode may work for this solution however I am unsure if it runs 32bit or 64bit and if it'll allow driver-issue devices to pass to it.   As long as I can remember, the preferred print driver has been PCL5 or PCL6. It seems that PCL5 is going the way of the dodo, and PCL6 has more problems than I care to list here (pcl xl errors). It seems that the most reliable print driver these days is the PS (postscript) driver. Just wondering what everyone elses' experience has been and what kind of driver they prefer?

• cannot install new drivers for ATI Radeon HD mobility

  I have an ATI mobility Radeon HD 3200 graphics card with a driver that I downloaded from my computer manufacturer's site. I wanted to upgrade the driver so I downloaded the respective driver from ATI and ran the installation. However, the installation only installs the download manager, the App SDK, C++ distributables and CCC, no display driver. When I try opening the CCC, I get an error that quits the CCC, something about the display driver not being recognized. What is wrong here? How do I go about fixing this? thanks

  This is a pretty basic question. I got a PC (Packard Bell Easynote TK11-BZ-010BE) that had linux on it, so I thought, just delete the partition and its alright. Well, it wasn't. I went into grub recovery and couldn't do anything, so I re-installed windows again. Now the problem is that everything works expect my network adapter. When I go to device manager, I get that there aren't any driver's for it installed. But without internet, I can't install the so called driver finders. How should I solve this?

• Backup drivers for a device in Windows 7

  If I can't find a driver on the internet when I prep for a reinstall of Windows 7, I figure if the driver is already installed, why not back it up and reinstall later? The only method I know of is going through Device Manager Device Properties Driver Details. This gives me a nice list of all the files, but then I need to go manually retrieve all of them. For devices with a lot of driver files, this is inefficient. Is there a better way to accomplish this?

• Windows 7 removes boot camp drivers on reboot

  I'm installing boot camp on 64 bit windows 7 home premium from a leopard disc. During installation I get a couple of errors saying that some driver publishers are not registered or something and I install them anyway. After reboot windows tries to repair something and reboots again. When I finally log in, there is no boot camp any more. Any ideas how to solve this?   I have a hard drive which I removed from my HP Laptop and plugged into my Macbook. Windows 7 started well and then installed graphic driver but the others (sound, touchpad) were not recognized by the operating system. What should I do? Edit from OP Sorry for writing here. I mean, when I double click the exe file, It gets listed in process list int task manager but after 5 seconds, I disappears. But somehow, Windows recognized my audio device and installed its driver. Microphone is ok but red light is on.

• Detach a filter driver from certain drivers?

  The driver for my laptop's keyboard has a kernel-mode filter driver from Synaptics (SynTP.sys) attached. Is it possible to detach the SynTP.sys filter driver from my keyboard's driver, without detaching it from my Touchpad's driver? This Microsoft Support page explains how to completely disable a filter driver, but my touchpad requires SynTP.sys as well. I'm trying to do this is because the Synaptics driver disables my touchpad when I type. (Explained fully in this question: Use touchpad while "typing"?.) Since I don't have a solution to that problem, I figured removing the filter driver from the keyboard could prevent the Synaptics driver from detecting key strokes, thus stopping it from disabling the touchpad.

• RCA monitor won't display highest resolution when NVidia drivers are installed

  My computer is a dual-monitor setup. It won't display my second monitor's highest res... In fact, it will only display one resolution. Anything higher or lower makes the monitor not show the screen. I've had this problem with this computer, and I upgraded almost all my components (cpu, RAM, mobo, and video card included) and I still have this problem with my new setup. This leads me to believe it's a problem with my monitor and the NVidia driver together. Any thoughts on what can be done? The manufacturer of the monitor doesn't make a driver for this monitor. I used to run Windows Vista and now my new setup runs Windows 7.

• Installing drivers from NSIS installer in x64 system.

  I want to add support for x64 OSes to my NSIS installer. One of the installer's task is drivers installation. I've written a special NSIS plugin for this task. This plugin uses Driver Install Frameworks API (DIFxAPI) to install drivers. The problem is that this API does not work in WOW64. Is there any way to create x64 installer application with NSIS? Has anybody solved similar problem with NSIS? P.S.: The only solution I can see now is to run another application from the installer. This will be x64 executable that installs drivers. But this way seems somewhat harder to me. So, I'm interested in other solutions.

I was thinking that starting out with developing some drivers would be a good place to develop my abilities in the regard. I'm open to doing so on either windows or linux platform (eventually will want to probably attempt both). What tools would you recommend that I look into to get me started on this project?
