  • pass by reference or pass by value?

    - by Sven
When learning a new programming language, one of the possible roadblocks you might encounter is the question whether the language is, by default, pass-by-value or pass-by-reference So here is my question to all of you, in your favorite language, how is it actually done? and what are the possible pitfalls? your favorite language can, of course, be anything you have ever played with: popular, obscure, esoteric, new, old ...

  • Exception while trying to reference LINQ namespace

    - by MarceloRamires
While trying to use linq in a .NET 2.0 winforms project I got: Namespace or type specified in the Imports 'System.Linq' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found. Make sure the namespace or the type is defined and contains at least one public member. Make sure the imported element name doesn't use any aliases In both the lines that reference the following namespaces: System.Linq; System.Xml.Linq; How could I get these namespaces to work on .NET 2.0 without referencing an external DLL or anything ?

  • Add reference to .dll asp.net

    - by Andy
Hi, I have a simple question about adding references to a .NET project. I'm adding reCAPTCHA to a website and i have downloaded the dll. After setting the reference to the dll i build and run the project and gets this error: [ReflectionTypeLoadException: Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information.] System.Reflection.Module._GetTypesInternal(StackCrawlMark& stackMark) +0 System.Reflection.Assembly.GetTypes() +96 StarSuite.Core.Settings.GetSingletonInstancesOfBaseType(Type baseType, String staticMethodName, Type returnType) +149 [ApplicationException: Unable to load types from 'Recaptcha, Version=1.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=9afc4d65b28c38c2'. LoaderExceptions: [FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Mvc, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.] ] What am i missing, why do i get this error?

  • Recommended OpenGL / GLUT Reference

    - by TJB
What OpenGL / GLUT reference is the best around? Ideally I'm looking for something with C++ sample code to help me learn OpenGL as well as details about the APIs similar to what MSDN provides for .net programming. If there isn't a one stop shop, then please list the set of references I should use and what the strengths of each one is. Thanx!

  • Saving a reference to a int.

    - by Scott Chamberlain
Here is a much simplified version of what I am trying to do static void Main(string[] args) { int test = 0; int test2 = 0; Test A = new Test(ref test); Test B = new Test(ref test); Test C = new Test(ref test2); A.write(); //Writes 1 should write 1 B.write(); //Writes 1 should write 2 C.write(); //Writes 1 should write 1 Console.ReadLine(); } class Test { int _a; public Test(ref int a) { _a = a; //I loose the reference here } public void write() { var b = System.Threading.Interlocked.Increment(ref _a); Console.WriteLine(b); } } In my real code I have a int that will be incremented by many threads however where the threads a called it will not be easy to pass it the parameter that points it at the int(In the real code this is happening inside a IEnumerator). So a requirement is the reference must be made in the constructor. Also not all threads will be pointing at the same single base int so I can not use a global static int either. I know I can just box the int inside a class and pass the class around but I wanted to know if that is the correct way of doing something like this? What I think could be the correct way: static void Main(string[] args) { Holder holder = new Holder(0); Holder holder2 = new Holder(0); Test A = new Test(holder); Test B = new Test(holder); Test C = new Test(holder2); A.write(); //Writes 1 should write 1 B.write(); //Writes 2 should write 2 C.write(); //Writes 1 should write 1 Console.ReadLine(); } class Holder { public Holder(int i) { num = i; } public int num; } class Test { Holder _holder; public Test(Holder holder) { _holder = holder; } public void write() { var b = System.Threading.Interlocked.Increment(ref _holder.num); Console.WriteLine(b); } } Is there a better way than this?

  • Update WCF service reference

    - by SteveC
In BizTalk 2006 R2, is there some way to regenerate the reference to a WCF service that has been created using the "Add Generated Items / Consume WCF Service" option? I tried just re-running the wizard, but it creates new ODX, BindingInfo, etc. files, and breaks the solution, so that's not the way :-( Searched the web, but not found any references to how to update the references, just plenty on creating from scratch

  • Getting RAW Soap Data from a Web Reference Client running in ASP.net

    - by Harry
I'm trying to trouble shoot a web service client in my current project. I'm not sure of the platform of the Service Server (Most likely LAMP). I believe there is a fault on their side of the fence as i have eliminated the potential issues with my client. The client is a standard ASMX type web reference proxy auto generated from the service WSDL. What I need to get to is the RAW SOAP Messages (Request and Responses) What is the best way to go about this?

  • STL class for reference-counted pointers?

    - by hasen j
This should be trivial but I can't seem to find it (unless no such class exists!) What's the STL class (or set of classes) for smart pointers? UPDATE Thanks for the responses, I must say I'm surprised there's no standard implementation. I ended up using this one: http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article1060.asp

  • Python - how to check if weak reference is still available

    - by Alex
Hi all, I am passing some weakrefs from Python into C++ class, but C++ destructors are actively trying to access the ref when the real object is already dead, obviously it crashes... Is there any Python C/API approach to find out if Python reference is still alive or any other known workaround for this ? Thanks

  • C# - Does foreach() iterate by reference?

    - by sharkin
Consider this: List<MyClass> obj_list = get_the_list(); foreach( MyClass obj in obj_list ) { obj.property = 42; } Is 'obj' a reference to the corresponding object within the list so that when I change the property the change will persist in the object instance once constructed somewhere?

  • Reference variable to an object instantiated/initialized in another class in Java

    - by Alex
The reason I'm asking is because I'm getting NullPointerException. I now this is very easy but I'm pretty new programming and find this a bit confusing. So say I have initialized an object in a class and want to access that same object from another class. Like now for instance I'm working on a small Chess game, in my model Game class I have an instance of Board, an object. Board, in turn, has an array of Squares. Square[][]. Game has board, board has Square[][]. Now if I want to access the Square[][] through the object board (in Game) of type Board. Do I just declare a variable with the same name and type or do I have to initialize it again? Board board OR Board board = new Board(); Note, I have already initialized board in the class Game so if I do it again, won't they be two totally different Board objects?

  • Python - copy by reference

Is there any possibility to copy variable by reference no matter if its int or class instance? My goal is to have two lists of the same objects and when one changes, change is visible in second. In other words i need pointers:/

  • What is the difference between type and type.__new__ in python?

    - by Jason Baker
I was writing a metaclass and accidentally did it like this: class MetaCls(type): def __new__(cls, name, bases, dict): return type(name, bases, dict) ...instead of like this: class MetaCls(type): def __new__(cls, name, bases, dict): return type.__new__(cls, name, bases, dict) What exactly is the difference between these two metaclasses? And more specifically, what caused the first one to not work properly (some classes weren't called into by the metaclass)?

  • FORTRAN: determine variable type

    - by tibbs
hello, GOOGLE has yet to find an answer for me, so here goes: In FORTRAN, is there a way to determine the TYPE of a variable? E.G., pass the variable type as an argument in a function, to then be able to call type-specific code with that fuction; eliminating the need to have seperate similar functions for each data type. thanks.
