• Windows 8 Task Manager without elevating?

  In Windows Vista and Windows 7, the task manager ran non-elevated, and you didn't face a UAC prompt unless you chose "View Processes of All Users". In Windows 8 Preview, out of the box the Task Manager starts elevated every time. How can I configure it to start non-elevated so I don't get hit with a UAC prompt every time I check CPU usage or view the list of running processes to see if an application closed completely? (I am not looking for answers which involve weakening UAC, and I ask the community's help in downvoting any such suggestions.)

• memcached and IIS manager with windows 2008

  I have memcached (c:\memcached) running on port 11211 and I have a problem configuring IIS manager I created a site in IIS manager binded to port 11211 and if I have memcached running and try and start the site it says "the process cant access the file because it is being used by another process" If I stop memcached and start the site in IIS (and enable directory browsing) I can access the directory structure http://localhost:11211 ok, if I then try and start memcached it errors with error 1053 "could not start the memcached server on local computer" I know I'm doing something fundamentally wrong here! just cannot figure out how I can use IIS and memcached together.   I just noticed this yesterday. I selected different memory columns, none of them worked, and I've tried showing processes from all users. I'm using Win 7. It doesn't slow down my computer or does anything else. I just want to know why and how to fix it. Could anyone help me on this? This problem is in all two user accounts in this computer (Windows 7). There was one time where task manager seemed to work, but when I closed it and opened it again, it crashed. Any reason/solution to this problem?

• Rename Devices in Device Manager

  This is mostly just for the USB ports, as I recognize everything else in computers.... Anyways, is there a way to rename, or otherwise, identify which USB port (or other hardware for that matter) is which device in Device Manager? I know I can plug in a flash drive, then see what port it is connected with, and find out that way. What I would like though, is to find out that a certain plug is always a certain device in Device Manager. If I can then have a system in mind that always has the same order, I can look and see if a USB port is not being detected or not working properly, and as I uninstall/reinstall USB devices, I know I won't lose my keyboard or mouse, for example. Oracle recently announced Oracle Enterprise Manager Plug-in for Amazon Web Services (AWS) allows you to achieve that goal. The on-premise Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM12c) acts as a single tool to get a comprehensive view of your public AWS resources as well as your private cloud resources.  By deploying the plug-in within your Cloud Control environment, you gain the following management features: Monitor EBS, EC2 and RDS instances on Amazon Web Services Gather performance metrics and configuration details for AWS instances Raise alerts and violations based on thresholds set on monitoring Generate reports based on the gathered data Users of this Plug-in can leverage the rich Enterprise Manager features such as system promotion, incident generation based on thresholds, integration with 3rd party ticketing applications etc. AWS Monitoring via this Plug-in is enabled via Amazon CloudWatch API and the users of this Plug-in are responsible for supplying credentials for accessing AWS and the CloudWatch API. This Plug-in can only be deployed on an EM12C R2 platform and agent version should be at minimum 12c R2.Here is a pictorial view of the overall architecture: Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) Here are a few key features: Rich and exhaustive list of metrics. Metrics can be gathered from an Agent running outside AWS. Critical configuration information. Custom Home Pages with charts and AWS configuration information. Discovery and Monitoring AWS instances can be added to EM12C either via the EM12c User Interface (UI) or the EM12c Command Line Interface ( EMCLI)  by providing the AWS credentials (Secret Key and Access Key Id) as well as resource specific properties as target properties. • Make Network Manager use bridge for PPPoE instead of only working on ethernet?

  My ISP uses PPPoE on their DSL connections. I use Network Manager to connect to this using a bridged modem connected to eth0. Often, I want to test networking things, so a set myself up a KVM machine with a tap interface. I can then connect these interfaces to to virtual 'switches' by adding them to bridges. (I work for my ISP). Sometimes, I want to test cases where the PPPoE is connected more than once. For this, I would like to be able to add eth0 to my 'switch' (a bridge) so the VMs can have a 'bridged modem' connection to the internet. But I would like to still be able to run the PPPoE for my computer at the same time. Which means that I need to get network-manager to run PPPoE over the bridge (or eth0). The problem is that it considers eth0 (and the bridge) 'not managed' by network manager, so it refuses to use it. So, how can I have network manager dial PPPoE over a bridge?

• How to prevent Network Manager from auto creating network connection profiles with "available to everyone" by default

  We have several laptops at work which use Ubuntu 11.10 64bit. I have our Wifi Access Point requiring WPA2-EAP Authentication (backed by a LDAP server). I have the staff using these laptops when doing presentations by using the Guest Account. So by default when you have a wifi card, network manager will display available Wireless Access Points. So the logical course of action for a Novice(tm) user is to single left click the easy to use option in the Network Manager drop down list... At this point the Staff Member (who is logged in with the guest account) expects to just be able to connect and enter any authentication details if required. But because they are using the Guest account, they won't ever have admin permissions (nor do I want them to), and so PolKit kicks in with a request for admin authorisation. I solved this part by modifying the PolKit permissions required to allow all users to create System Network Connections... However, because these Staff members are logging onto the Wifi Access Point with Ldap Credentials and because the Network Manager is now saving those credentials as a System Connection, their password is available for the next guest user session (because system connection profiles are stored in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections.d/* ). It creates system connections by default because "Available to all users" is ticked by default when you quickly connect to a new wifi access point. I want Network Manager to not tick this by default. This way I can revert the changes I made to Polkit and users network connection profiles will be purged when they log out.

What would be the correct one ?

  I'm trying to debug a memory leak in a printer driver. I'm pretty sure it's a resource leak, not just a plain memory leak because analyzing heap with !heap -s in windbg doesn't show any increase. How do I monitor other kinds of objects with windbg? Number of GDI objects and open handles is not growing either, so what could it be?

• Embed resource in .NET Assembly without assembly prefix?

  Hi all, When you embed a reosurce into a .NET assembly using Visual Studio, it is prefixed with the assembly name. However, assemblies can have embedded resources that are not assembly-name-prefixed. The only way I can see to do this is to disassemble the assembly using ildasm, then re-assemble it, adding the new resource -- which works, but... do I really need to finish that sentence? • Add newlines to a text resource in Android?

  I have a custom Dialog that contains only a TextView to display some text in my application. The documentation lists that only the b, i, u, tt, big, small, sup, sub, and strike tags are supported. I really need to add some newlines for readability. Do I need to change to a more complicated layout, or is there some way to encode newlines in the resource? I tried adding br tags, but that did not help.

• SSH to VM rejecting password, works from virt-manager console

  First of all, I'm sorry if there is a duplicate post somewhere. I searched for a while but none of the posts I found fixed my problem. It's fairly annoying. I created a new VM on our network and when using virt-manager I can log into the VM fine with the username and password. When I try to ssh to the VM from anywhere else it rejects the password, but I know the password is correct. I've even changed it multiple times to make sure its correct. The address I'm ssh'ing to is definitely pointing at the right VM as well, I've tested all this. It's still usable, but the virt-manager console is very limited so the sooner I can get to the bottom of this the better. VM is running ubuntu 12.04 btw. EDIT 1 Checked the auth.log and all I'm getting is "sshd[29304]:Connection closed by 'server.ip.address' [preauth]". I also tried allowing logging in as root, and even turned off password auth altogether in sshd_config and still nothing! I then turned on "AllowEmptyPasswords", still a whole lot of nothing.
