  • Nokia backup on a Mac

    Hi there! As I have to bring my phone to a shop for repair, I want to backup my contacts, calenders and text-messages. My Nokia connects perfectly through Bluetooth with iSync. One baddy, however is that text-messages are nowhere to be found or for the matter of fact, impossible to backup from the phone using iSync. Is there a graceful, free application for Mac that would be able to backup (and later restore) the messages on my phone? The worst possible scenario would include me to write a script that uses the Hayes command set and kermit-ize all SMS's (hundreds at least), so a nice click-and-play solution would be nice to know about. I don't consider applications like Parallel/CrossOver as a solution, as PC Suite is quite buggy with those (which does have the functionality to backup SMS and e-mail). Many thanks!

When I execute it ... I don't receive any text on my phone - so it clearly doesn't work as supposed to. I would appreciate any guidance or remarks. Is my cookie handling wrong? Is my login method wrong? Do I pass the right URLs. Do I encode and send the parameter string correctly? Is there any addition valuable data from these POSTs I should take? P.S. just in any case let me tell you that the username and password is not real. For security reasons I don't want to give valid ones. If a short message notification is clicked Logcat reveals the following: INFO/ActivityManager(31909): Starting activity: Intent { act=android.intent.action.VIEW dat=content://mms-sms/conversations/3 flg=0x34000000 cmp=com.android.mms/.ui.ConversationList bnds=[0,586][600,682] } This brought me a little bit further using content://mms-sms/conversations/3 as the data starts up the messages app in the correct conversation. I now only need to find out which conversation a message belongs to.

    So we run Groundworks (with Nagios) on CentOS to monitor our various servers and processes. I have it setup to automatically send emails and SMS texts when things reach a WARNING or CRITICAL state. Normally this works perfectly. However, twice we've had problems with Postfix on that server where Postfix decides to stop sending email. The most recent time lasted 4 days because none of us noticed. That leads me to a important question: how am I supposed to monitor my monitoring server?

    Hey experts - I'm having a ridiculous time trying to get an SMS API working (ZeepMobile, if you're interested) with .NET... I've been around .NET for a few years, but with all this social networking and API stuff, I need to get into the HttpWebRequest a bit. I'm new at it, but not completely new; I was able to hook up my site to Twitter without too much fuss (ie, I was able to modify someone's code to work for me). Anyways, the way their API works is to send an SMS message, you send them a POST and they respond back to you. I can send it just fine, but every time I do, rather than echo back something helpful to figure out what the error is, I get the Yellow Error Page Of Death (YEPOD) saying something to the effect of "The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request." This occurs on my line: '...creation of httpwebrequest here...' Dim myWebResponse As WebResponse myWebResponse = request.GetResponse() '<--- error line Is there any way to simply receive the error from the server rather than have the webserver throw an exception and give me the YEPOD?     I don't whether this is even possible which is obviously why I am asking this question :) Is it in any way possible to leverage functionality the Cellular Emulator on a REAL PHYSICAL device?? :) So when I test it on my device, I really do not have to send real SMS(s) to test my MessageInteceptor. On a sidenote, why does MessageInteceptor fails after several messages to intercept messages?? :( Thanx a lot in advance :)
