Please help me to sove this issue. Here is my sample code. I didnt implement any prerender method in my code. If i need to implement what should i write in that. protected void Button4_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { ConfigureExport(); RadGrid1.ExportSettings.Excel.Format = Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelExportFormat.ExcelML; CheckBox1.Checked = true; RadGrid1.ExportSettings.ExportOnlyData = true; RadGrid1.MasterTableView.ExportToExcel(); } public void ConfigureExport() { RadGrid1.ExportSettings.ExportOnlyData = CheckBox1.Checked; RadGrid1.ExportSettings.IgnorePaging = CheckBox2.Checked; RadGrid1.ExportSettings.OpenInNewWindow = CheckBox3.Checked; } protected void RadGrid1_ExcelMLExportRowCreated(object source, Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.GridExportExcelMLRowCreatedArgs e) { if (e.RowType == Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.GridExportExcelMLRowType.DataRow) { if (e.Row.Cells[0] != null && ((string)e.Row.Cells[0].Data.DataItem).Contains("U")) { e.Row.Cells[0].StyleValue = "MyCustomStyle"; e.Worksheet.Name = "comcast"; } } } protected void RadGrid1_ExcelMLExportStylesCreated(object source, Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.GridExportExcelMLStyleCreatedArgs e) { foreach (Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.StyleElement style in e.Styles) { if (style.Id == "headerStyle") { style.FontStyle.Bold = true; style.FontStyle.Color = System.Drawing.Color.Gainsboro; style.InteriorStyle.Color = System.Drawing.Color.Wheat; style.InteriorStyle.Pattern = Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.InteriorPatternType.Solid; } else if (style.Id == "itemStyle") { style.InteriorStyle.Color = System.Drawing.Color.WhiteSmoke; style.InteriorStyle.Pattern = Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.InteriorPatternType.Solid; } else if (style.Id == "alternatingItemStyle") { style.InteriorStyle.Color = System.Drawing.Color.LightGray; style.InteriorStyle.Pattern = Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.InteriorPatternType.Solid; } } Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.StyleElement myStyle = new Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.StyleElement("MyCustomStyle"); myStyle.FontStyle.Bold = true; myStyle.FontStyle.Italic = true; myStyle.InteriorStyle.Color = System.Drawing.Color.Gray; myStyle.InteriorStyle.Pattern = Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.InteriorPatternType.Solid; e.Styles.Add(myStyle); }

  • How to do validation on both client and server side for a service which is a store procedure(return a complex type)

    - by Tai
    Hi I am doing Silverlight 4 In my database, I have a store procedure(having two parameters) which returns rows (with extra fields). So i have to make a complex type for those rows on my Models. And Making a service to call that function import store procedure. The RIA will automatically create a matching Entity(to the complex type) and an operation for me. However, I don't know how to validation the parameters of the operation on both client and server side. For example, the parameter must be an integer only (and greater than 10) or datetime only. below is my xaml code. I am using DomainDataSource control and don't know how to validate the two field parameter.It has two TextBox to let the user types in the value of parameters. Plz help me, thank you <riaControls:DomainDataSource AutoLoad="False" d:DesignData="{d:DesignInstance my1:USPFinancialAccountHistory, CreateList=true}" Height="0" LoadedData="uSPFinancialAccountHistoryDomainDataSource_LoadedData" Name="uSPFinancialAccountHistoryDomainDataSource" QueryName="GetFinancialAccountHistoryQuery" Width="0" Margin="0,0,705,32"> <riaControls:DomainDataSource.DomainContext> <my:USPFinancialAccountHistoryContext /> </riaControls:DomainDataSource.DomainContext> <riaControls:DomainDataSource.QueryParameters> <riaControls:Parameter ParameterName="fiscalYear" Value="{Binding ElementName=fiscalYearTextBox, Path=Text}" /> <riaControls:Parameter ParameterName="fiscalPeriod" Value="{Binding ElementName=fiscalPeriodTextBox, Path=Text}" /> </riaControls:DomainDataSource.QueryParameters> </riaControls:DomainDataSource> <StackPanel Height="30" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Orientation="Horizontal" VerticalAlignment="Top"> <sdk:Label Content="Fiscal Year:" Margin="3" VerticalAlignment="Center" /> <TextBox Name="fiscalYearTextBox" Width="60" /> <sdk:Label Content="Fiscal Period:" Margin="3" VerticalAlignment="Center" /> <TextBox Name="fiscalPeriodTextBox" Width="60" /> <Button Command="{Binding Path=LoadCommand, ElementName=uSPFinancialAccountHistoryDomainDataSource}" Content="Load" Margin="3" Name="uSPFinancialAccountHistoryDomainDataSourceLoadButton" /> </StackPanel> <telerik:RadGridView ItemsSource="{Binding ElementName=uSPFinancialAccountHistoryDomainDataSource, Path=Data}" Name="uSPFinancialAccountHistoryRadGridView" Grid.Row="1" IsReadOnly="True" DataLoadMode="Asynchronous" AutoGenerateColumns="False" ShowGroupPanel="False"> <telerik:RadGridView.Columns> <telerik:GridViewDataColumn Header="Account Number" DataMemberBinding="{Binding AccountNumber}"/> <telerik:GridViewDataColumn Header="Department Number" DataMemberBinding="{Binding DepartmentNumber}"/> <telerik:GridViewDataColumn Header="Period code" DataMemberBinding="{Binding PeriodCode}" /> <telerik:GridViewDataColumn Header="Total Debit" DataMemberBinding="{Binding TotalDebit}" DataFormatString="{}{0:C2}"/> <telerik:GridViewDataColumn Header="Total Credit" DataMemberBinding="{Binding TotalCredit}" DataFormatString="{}{0:C2}"/> <telerik:GridViewDataColumn Header="Period Total" DataMemberBinding="{Binding PeriodTotal}" DataFormatString="{}{0:C2}"/> <telerik:GridViewDataColumn Header="Year To Date" DataMemberBinding="{Binding YearToDate}" DataFormatString="{}{0:C2}"/> </telerik:RadGridView.Columns> </telerik:RadGridView>

  • Visual Studio compiles WPF application twice during build

    - by Brian Ensink
    I have a WPF app in VS2008 that compiles twice during the build. The two CSC command lines are similar but with some differences. The first CSC command line does not have an /resource options, the second has two /resource options on the command line. The second CSC command line has these additional arguments: /resource:"obj\Debug AutoCAD\VisualApp.g.resources" /resource:"obj\Debug AutoCAD\CAP.Visual.Properties.Resources.resources" I hate to post such a huge ugly compiler output but here are both command lines. 2>c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5\Csc.exe /noconfig /nowarn:1701,1702 /platform:x86 /errorreport:prompt /warn:4 • Silverlight Binding with multiple collections

    - by George Evjen
    We're designing some sport specific applications. In one of our views we have a gridview that is bound to an observable collection of Teams. This is pretty straight forward in terms of getting Teams bound to the GridView. <telerik:RadGridView Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" x:Name="UsersGrid" ItemsSource="{Binding TeamResults}" SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedTeam, Mode=TwoWay}"> <telerik:RadGridView.Columns> <telerik:GridViewDataColumn Header="Name/Group" DataMemberBinding="{Binding TeamName}" MinWidth="150"></telerik:GridViewDataColumn> </telerik:RadGridView.Columns> </telerik:RadGridView> We use the observable collection of teams as our items source and then bind the property of TeamName to the first column. You can set the binding to mode=TwoWay, we use a dialog where we edit the selected item, so our binding here is not set to two way. The issue comes when we want to bind to a property that has another collection in it. To continue on our code from above, we have an observable collection of teams, within that collection we have a collection of KeyPeople. We get this collection using RIA Serivces with the code below. return _TeamsRepository.All().Include("KeyPerson"); Here we are getting all the teams and also including the KeyPerson entity. So when we are done with our Load we will end up with an observable collection of Teams with a navigation property / entity of KeyPerson. Within this KeyPerson entity is a list of people associated with that particular team. We want to display the head coach from this list of KeyPersons. This list currently has a list of ten or more people that are bound to this team, but we just want to display the Head Coach in the column next to team name. The issue becomes how do we bind to this included entity? I have found about three different ways to solve this issue. The way that seemed to fit us best is to utilize the features within RIA Services. We can create client side properties that will do the work for us. We will create in the client side library a partial class of Team. We will end up in our library a file that is Team.shared.cs. The code below is what we will put into our partial team class. public KeyPerson Coach        {            get            {                if (this.KeyPerson != null && this.KeyPerson.Any())                { return this.KeyPerson.Where(x => x.RelationshipType == “HeadCoach”).FirstOrDefault(); }                 return null;            }        } We will return just the person that is the Head Coach and then be able to bind that and any other additional properties that we need. <telerik:GridViewDataColumn Header="Coach" DataMemberBinding="{Binding Coach.Name}" MinWidth="150"></telerik:GridViewDataColumn> There are other ways that we could have solved this issue but we felt that creating a partial class through RIA Services best suited our needs.

  • JustCode Provides Reflector Alternative

    - by Joe Mayo
    If you've been a loyal Reflector user, you've probably been exposed to the debacle surrounding RedGate's decision to no longer offer a free version.  Since then, the race has begun for a replacement with a provider that would stand by their promises to the community.  Mono has an ongoing free alternative, which has been available for a long time.  However, other vendors are stepping up to the plate, with their own offerings. If Not Reflector, Then What? One of these vendors is Telerik.  In their recent Q1 2011 release of JustCode, Telerik offers a decompilation utility rivaling what we've become accustomed to in Reflector.  Not only does Telerik offer a usable replacement, but they've (in my opinion), produced a product that integrates more naturally with visual Studio than any other product ever has.  Telerik's decompilation process is so easy that the accompanying demo in this post is blindingly short (except for the presence of verbose narrative). If you want to follow along with this demo, you'll need to have Telerik JustCode installed.  If you don't have JustCode yet, you can buy it or download a trial at the Telerik Web site . A Tall Tale; Prove It! With JustCode, you can view code in the .NET Framework or any other 3rd party library (that isn't well obfuscated).  This demo depends on LINQ to Twitter, which you can download from CodePlex.com and create a reference or install the package online as described in my previous post on NuGet.  Regardless of the method, you'll have a project with a reference to LINQ to Twitter.  Use a Console Project if you want to follow along with this demo. Note:  If you've created a Console project, remember to ensure that the Target Framework is set to .NET Framework 4.  The default is .NET Framework 4 Client Profile, which doesn't work with LINQ to Twitter.  You can check by double-clicking the Properties folder on the project and inspecting the Target Framework setting. Next, you'll need to add some code to your program that you want to inspect. Here, I add code to instantiate a TwitterContext, which is like a LINQ to SQL DataContext, but works with Twitter: var l2tCtx = new TwitterContext(); If you're following along add the code above to the Main method, which will look similar to this: using LinqToTwitter; namespace NuGetInstall { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { var l2tCtx = new TwitterContext(); } } } The code above doesn't really do anything, but it does give something that I can show and demonstrate how JustCode decompilation works. Once the code is in place, click on TwitterContext and press the F12 (Go to Definition) key.  As expected, Visual Studio opens a metadata file with prototypes for the TwitterContext class.  Here's the result: Opening a metadata file is the normal way that Visual Studio works when navigating to the definition of a type where you don't have the code.  The scenario with TwitterContext happens because you don't have the source code to the file.  Visual Studio has always done this and you can experiment by selecting any .NET type, i.e. a string type, and observing that Visual Studio opens a metadata file for the .NET String type. The point I'm making here is that JustCode works the way Visual Studio works and you'll see how this can make your job easier. In the previous figure, you only saw prototypes associated with the code. i.e. Notice that the default constructor is empty.  Again, this is normal because Visual Studio doesn't have the ability to decompile code.  However, that's the purpose of this post; showing you how JustCode fills that gap. To decompile code, right click on TwitterContext in the metadata file and select JustCode Navigate -> Decompile from the context menu.  The shortcut keys are Ctrl+1.  After a brief pause, accompanied by a progress window, you'll see the metadata expand into full decompiled code. Notice below how the default constructor now has code as opposed to the empty member prototype in the original metadata: And Why is This So Different? Again, the big deal is that Telerik JustCode decompilation works in harmony with the way that Visual Studio works.  The navigate to functionality already exists and you can use that, along with a simple context menu option (or shortcut key) to transform prototypes into decompiled code. Telerik is filling the the Reflector/Red Gate gap by providing a supported alternative to decompiling code.  Many people, including myself, used Reflector to decompile code when we were stuck with buggy libraries or insufficient documentation.  Now we have an alternative that's officially supported by a company with an excellent track record for customer (developer) service, Telerik.  Not only that, JustCode has several other IDE productivity tools that make the deal even sweeter. • Templates and inheritance

    - by mariusz
    Hello, I have a big problem. I use additional controls for Wpf. One of them is Telerik RadWindow This control is already templated. Now I want to create custom Window with will inherit from RadWindow, and make custom template, eg. One base window will contains grid and two buttons, second base window will contain two grids (master - detail). The problem is that templates do not support inheritance. Perhaps is another way to template only the content of Winodow? My code, that doesn't work (empty window appears, so template doesn't apply) <Style TargetType="{x:Type local:TBaseRjWindow}"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type local:TBaseRjContent}"> <Border Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}"> <Grid Name="mGrid"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition /> <RowDefinition MaxHeight="40" MinHeight="30" /> <RowDefinition MaxHeight="40" MinHeight="30" /> <RowDefinition Height="Auto" /> <RowDefinition MaxHeight="40" MinHeight="30" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <telerik:RadGridView Margin="10,10,10,10" Name="grid" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" ScrollMode="Deferred" AutoGenerateColumns="False" Width="Auto" > </telerik:RadGridView> <telerik:RadDataPager Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" x:Name="radDataPager" PageSize="50" AutoEllipsisMode="None" DisplayMode="First, Previous, Next, Text" Margin="10,0,10,0"/> <StackPanel Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" Margin="5 5 5 5" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Orientation="Horizontal" Height="20" Width="Auto" VerticalAlignment="Center" > <telerik:RadButton x:Name="btAdd" Margin="5 0 5 0" Content="Dodaj" /> <telerik:RadButton x:Name="btEdit" Margin="5 0 5 0" Content="Edytuj" /> <telerik:RadButton x:Name="btDelete" Margin="5 0 5 0" Content="Usun" /> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Name="addFields" Background="LightGray" Visibility="Collapsed" VerticalAlignment="Top" Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="0" Width="Auto" Height="Auto" Orientation="Horizontal"> <GroupBox Header="Szczegoly" Margin="2 2 2 2" > <Grid VerticalAlignment="Top" DataContext="{Binding SelectedItem, ElementName=grid}" Name="_gAddFields" Margin="0 0 0 0" Width="Auto" Height="Auto" > </Grid> </GroupBox> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Grid.Row="3" Grid.Column="0" Margin="5 5 5 5" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Orientation="Horizontal" Height="25" Width="Auto" VerticalAlignment="Center" > <telerik:RadButton x:Name="btSave" IsDefault="True" Width="60" Margin="5 0 5 0" Content="Zapisz" /> <telerik:RadButton x:Name="btOK" IsDefault="True" Width="60" Margin="5 0 5 0" Content="Akceptuj" /> <telerik:RadButton x:Name="btCancel" IsCancel="True" Width="60" Margin="5 0 5 0" Content="Anuluj" /> </StackPanel> </Grid> </Border> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> Please help

  • How to get more detail from an exception?

    - by cusimar9
    I have a .NET 4.0 web application which implements an error handler within the Application_Error event of Global.asax. When an exception occurs this intercepts it and sends me an email including a variety of information like the logged in user, the page the error occurred on, the contents of the session etc. This is all great but there is some fundamental detail missing which I seem unable to locate. For instance, this is a subset of an error I would receive and the associated stack trace: Source: Telerik.Web.UI Message: Selection out of range Parameter name: value Stack trace: at Telerik.Web.UI.RadComboBox.PerformDataBinding(IEnumerable dataSource) at Telerik.Web.UI.RadComboBox.OnDataSourceViewSelectCallback(IEnumerable data) at System.Web.UI.DataSourceView.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments arguments, DataSourceViewSelectCallback callback) at Telerik.Web.UI.RadComboBox.OnDataBinding(EventArgs e) at Telerik.Web.UI.RadComboBox.PerformSelect() at System.Web.UI.WebControls.BaseDataBoundControl.DataBind() at Telerik.Web.UI.RadComboBox.DataBind() at System.Web.UI.WebControls.BaseDataBoundControl.EnsureDataBound() at Telerik.Web.UI.RadComboBox.OnPreRender(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) Now as lovely as this is I could do with knowing a) the name of the control and b) the value which caused the control to be 'out of range'. Any suggestions about how I could get this sort of information? I've run this in debug mode and the objects passed to Global.asax don't seem to hold any more detail that I can see.

  • Are jQuery's :first and :eq(0) selectors functionally equivalent?

    - by travis
    I'm not sure whether to use :first or :eq(0) in a selector. I'm pretty sure that they'll always return the same object, but is one speedier than the other? I'm sure someone here must have benchmarked these selectors before and I'm not really sure the best way to test if one is faster. Update: here's the bench I ran: /* start bench */ for (var count = 0; count < 5; count++) { var i = 0, limit = 10000; var start, end; start = new Date(); for (i = 0; i < limit; i++) { var $radeditor = $thisFrame.parents("div.RadEditor.Telerik:eq(0)"); } end = new Date(); alert("div.RadEditor.Telerik:eq(0) : " + (end-start)); var start = new Date(); for (i = 0; i < limit; i++) { var $radeditor = $thisFrame.parents("div.RadEditor.Telerik:first"); } end = new Date(); alert("div.RadEditor.Telerik:first : " + (end-start)); start = new Date(); for (i = 0; i < limit; i++) { var radeditor = $thisFrame.parents("div.RadEditor.Telerik")[0]; } end = new Date(); alert("(div.RadEditor.Telerik)[0] : " + (end-start)); start = new Date(); for (i = 0; i < limit; i++) { var $radeditor = $($thisFrame.parents("div.RadEditor.Telerik")[0]); } end = new Date(); alert("$((div.RadEditor.Telerik)[0]) : " + (end-start)); } /* end bench */ I assumed that the 3rd would be the fastest and the 4th would be the slowest, but here's the results that I came up with: FF3: :eq(0) :first [0] $([0]) trial1 5275 4360 4107 3910 trial2 5175 5231 3916 4134 trial3 5317 5589 4670 4350 trial4 5754 4829 3988 4610 trial5 4771 6019 4669 4803 Average 5258.4 5205.6 4270 4361.4 IE6: :eq(0) :first [0] $([0]) trial1 13796 15733 12202 14014 trial2 14186 13905 12749 11546 trial3 12249 14281 13421 12109 trial4 14984 15015 11718 13421 trial5 16015 13187 11578 10984 Average 14246 14424.2 12333.6 12414.8 I was correct about just returning the first native DOM object being the fastest ([0]), but I can't believe the wrapping that object in the jQuery function was faster that both :first and :eq(0)! Unless I'm doing it wrong.

  • Silverlight Relay Commands

Which I enjoy, since I like the idea of going into a day knowing that I am  going to learn something new. The issue that I am currently working on centers around relay commands. I have a pretty good handle on Relay Commands and how we use them within our applications. <Button Command="{Binding ButtonCommand}" CommandParameter="NewRecruit" Content="New Recruit" /> Here in our xaml we have a button. The button has a Command and a CommandParameter. The command binds to the ButtonCommand that we have in our ViewModel RelayCommand _buttonCommand;         /// <summary>         /// Gets the button command.         /// </summary>         /// <value>The button command.</value>         public RelayCommand ButtonCommand         {             get             {                 if (_buttonCommand == null)                 {                     _buttonCommand = new RelayCommand(                         x => x != null && x.ToString().Length > 0 && CheckCommandAvailable(x.ToString()),                         x => ExecuteCommand(x.ToString()));                 }                 return _buttonCommand;             }         }   In our relay command we then do some checks with a lambda expression. We check if the command  parameter is null, is the length greater than 0 and we have a CheckCommandAvailable method that will tell  us if the button is even enabled. After we check on these three items we then pass the command parameter to an action method. This is all pretty straight forward, the issue that we solved a few days ago centered around having a control that needed to use a Relay Command and this control was a nested control and was using a different DataContext. The example below illustrates how we handled this scenario. In our xaml usercontrol we had to set a name to this control. <Controls3:RadTileViewItem x:Class="RecruitStatusTileView"     xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"     xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"     xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008"     xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006"      xmlns:Controls1="clr-namespace:Telerik.Windows.Controls;assembly=Telerik.Windows.Controls"      xmlns:Controls2="clr-namespace:Telerik.Windows.Controls;assembly=Telerik.Windows.Controls.Input"      xmlns:Controls3="clr-namespace:Telerik.Windows.Controls;assembly=Telerik.Windows.Controls.Navigation"      mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="400" d:DesignWidth="800" Header="{Binding Title,Mode=TwoWay}" MinimizedHeight="100"                             x:Name="StatusView"> Here we are using a telerik RadTileViewItem. We set the name of this control to “StatusView”. In our button control we set our command parameters and commands different than the example above. <HyperlinkButton Content="{Binding BigBoardButtonText, Mode=TwoWay}" CommandParameter="{Binding 'Position.PositionName'}" Command="{Binding ElementName=StatusView, Path=DataContext.BigBoardCommand, Mode=TwoWay}" /> This hyperlink button lives in a ListBox control and this listbox has an ItemSource of PositionSelectors. The Command Parameter is binding to the Position.Position property of that PositionSelectors object. This again is pretty straight forward again. What gets a bit tricky is the Command property in the hyperlink. It is binding to the element name we created in the user control (StatusView) Because this hyperlink is in a listbox and is in the item template it doesn’t have a direct handle on the DataContext that the RadTileViewItem has so we have to make sure it does. We do that by binding to the element name of status view then set the path to DataContext.BigBoardCommand. BigBoardCommand is the name of the RelayCommand in the view model. private RelayCommand _bigBoardCommand = null;         /// <summary>         /// Gets the big board command.         /// </summary>         /// <value>The big board command.</value>         public RelayCommand BigBoardCommand         {             get             {                 if (_bigBoardCommand == null)                 {                     _bigBoardCommand = new RelayCommand(x => true, x => AddToBigBoard(x.ToString()));                 }                 return _bigBoardCommand;             }         } From there we check for true again and then call the action and pass in the parameter that we had as the command parameter. What we are working on now is a bit trickier than this second example. In the above example we are only creating this TileViewItem with this name “StatusView” once. In another part of our application we are generating multiple TileViewItems, so we cannot set the name in the control as we cant have multiple controls with the same name. When we run the application we get an error that reads that the value is out of expected range. My searching has led me to think we cannot have multiple controls with the same name. This is today’s problem and Ill post the solution to this once it is found.

  • Upgrade existing WinForms applications to use the latest RadControls

    Upgrading projects to new versions can be a pain, especially when you have to update several assemblies from a single version, as is the case with RadControls for WinForms. Q1 2010 simplifies this process a lot, by giving a couple of ways (one new and one updated) to upgrade existing applications to the latest and greatest version of RadControls for WinForms: By using the new Visual Studio Extensions (VSX), available in VS2005, VS2008 and VS2010 RC; By using the updated Project Upgrade Utility. Here are the steps: Upgrading a classic Windows Forms application to the latest RadControls for WinForms by using the Visual Studio Extensions Install RadControls for WinForms Q1 2010 Open the classic Windows Forms application (VB or C#) Open the Telerik Menu and select RadControls for WinForms --> Convert to Telerik WinForms Application     Select the Telerik controls you plan to use in the application, as well as a theme, and click OK. The VSX package will add the needed assemblies to your project automatically for you.     Replace the standard controls on your form with the respective Telerik controls.     Run the application to see the result. Upgrading an older RadControls application to the latest RadControls for WinForms by using the Visual Studio Extensions Install RadControls for WinForms Q1 2010. Open your current RadControls application (VB or C#), which uses pre-Q1 2010 assembly versions. Open the Telerik Menu and select RadControls for WinForms --> Upgrade Wizard   Choose to either use the online downloader of the latest version, or to use the currently installed version. The VSX package will check what assemblies you use in your project and will upgrade them automatically.     Run the application to see the result. Upgrading an older RadControls application to the latest RadControls for WinForms by using the Project Upgrade Utility The Q1 2010 Project Upgrade Utility now features upgrading not only a single project, but all projects in a directory/solution (recursively). The tool is quite intuitive - simply choose your solution folder (or a folder with several projects)m and click Update. Feel free to leave a comment. • Single-Click Checkbox in RadGridView

    - by Anthony Trudeau
    Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/tonyt/archive/2014/06/05/156809.aspxThe Telerik RadGridView for WPF is a flexible visual control for displaying and manipulating tables of data. It’s not without it’s quirks though. I ran into one of those quirks recently. The behavior of the RadGridView requires that you first activate the cell for editing. That enables the editing controls underneath. Although that provides better editing capabilities, it also can be unintuitive. In my case I don’t want my users to have to click a checkbox value twice in order to change the value. This can be solved easily by setting the EditTriggers and AutoSelectOnEdit properties to CellClick and True respectively. Unfortunately, the story doesn’t end there. You would think you could set those properties in a style with a TargetType of GridViewCheckBoxColumn. You’d be wrong. <!-- This works --> <telerik:GridViewCheckBoxColumn Header="Flag #1"       DataMemberBinding="{Binding Flag1}"       EditTriggers="CellClick" AutoSelectOnEdit="True"/> <!-- This doesn’t work --> <Style TargetType="{x:Type telerik:GridViewCheckBoxColumn}">       <Setter Property="EditTriggers" Value="CellClick" />       <Setter Property="AutoSelectOnEdit" Value="True" /> </Style> Telerik told me that is the correct, expected behavior, because the columns in the RadGridView are not visual elements. Their explanation is that the Style property comes from the base class FrameworkContentElement, but the column objects aren’t visual elements. That may be an implementation truth, but that doesn’t make the behavior correct or expected. It’s unintuitive that the GridViewCheckBoxColumn exposes a Style property that cannot be used properly, but there it is. At least there’s a way to get the desired effect.

  • SP1 of RadControls for WinForms Q1 2010 released, featuring VS2010 and Client Profile support

    As always, Telerik's plans were closely aligned with Microsoft's release schedule, and we were dedicated to provide VS2010 support even before Visual Studio 2010 was officially launched. Now that the first VS2010 launch event is over, here comes the first of many Telerik Service Packs to support VS2010. This RadControls for WinForms release is the first to provide support for the Client Profile, introduced with .NET3.5, and now default when starting new windows forms projects with VS2010. The Client Profile is a smaller version of the.NET Framework that includes only the assemblies needed for deploying client-based applications, which in turn reduces the size of the application. Basically, the Design time classes are excluded from the Client Profile (CP), because they are only needed for designing and not for running an application. In Q1 2010 SP1 we have moved the designer classes from the run-time assemblies to a new dedicated assembly (Telerik.WinControls.UI.Design.dll), ...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Silverlight Navigation Menu

    - by Justin
    I am using the Silverlight Business Application Template. The navigation consists of a few HyperlinkButtons in a StackPanel. I would like to create a more robust navigation menu (multilevel) with dropdowns and such. Telerik has one for silverlight (http://demos.telerik.com/silverlight/#Menu/FirstLook) I don't want to use Telerik control because its too expensive and I have tons of problems with Telerik. I've Googled it but including "Navigation" in my search seems to only include results about the navigation framework. Anyway, anyone have a good example?

  • Using Teleriks new LINQ implementation to create OData feeds

    This week Telerik released a new LINQ implementation that is simple to use and produces domain models very fast. Built on top of the enterprise grade OpenAccess ORM, you can connect to any database that OpenAccess can connect to such as: SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Azure, VistaDB, etc. While this is a separate LINQ implementation from traditional OpenAccess Entites, you can use the visual designer without ever interacting with OpenAccess, however, you can always hook into the advanced ORM features like caching, fetch plan optimization, etc, if needed. Just to show off how easy our LINQ implementation is to use, I will walk you through building an OData feed using Data Services Update for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. (Memo to Microsoft: P-L-E-A-S-E hire someone from Apple to name your products.) How easy is it? If you have a fast machine, are skilled with the mouse, and type fast, you can do this in about 60 seconds via three easy steps. (I promise in about 2-3 weeks that you can do this in less then 30 seconds. Stay tuned for that.)  Step 1 (15-20 seconds): Building your Domain Model In your web project in Visual Studio, right click on the project and select Add|New Item and select Telerik OpenAccess Domain Model as your item template. Give the file a meaningful name as well. Select your database type (SQL Server, SQL Azure, Oracle, MySQL, VistaDB, etc) and build the connection string. If you already have a Visual Studio connection string already saved, this step is trivial.  Then select your tables, enter a name for your model and click Finish. In this case I connected to Northwind and selected only Customers, Orders, and Order Details.  I named my model NorthwindEntities and will use that in my DataService. Step 2 (20-25 seconds): Adding and Configuring your Data Service In your web project in Visual Studio, right click on the project and select Add|New Item and select ADO .NET Data Service as your item template and name your service. In the code behind for your Data Service you have to make three small changes. Add the name of your Telerik Domain Model (entered in Step 1) as the DataService name (shown on line 6 below as NorthwindEntities) and uncomment line 11 and add a * to show all entities. Optionally if you want to take advantage of the DataService 3.5 updates, add line 13 (and change IDataServiceConfiguration to DataServiceConfiguration in line 9.) 1: using System.Data.Services; 2: using System.Data.Services.Common; 3:   4: namespace Telerik.RLINQ.Astoria.Web 5: { 6: public class NorthwindService : DataService<NorthwindEntities> 7: { 8: //change the IDataServiceConfigurationto DataServiceConfiguration 9: public static void InitializeService(DataServiceConfiguration config) 10: { 11: config.SetEntitySetAccessRule("*", EntitySetRights.All); 12: //take advantage of the "Astoria3.5 Update" features 13: config.DataServiceBehavior.MaxProtocolVersion = DataServiceProtocolVersion.V2; 14: } 15: } 16: } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; }   Step 3 (~30 seconds): Adding the DataServiceKeys You now have to tell your data service what are the primary keys of each entity. To do this you have to create a new code file and create a few partial classes. If you type fast, use copy and paste from your first entity,  and use a refactoring productivity tool, you can add these 6-8 lines of code or so in about 30 seconds. This is the most tedious step, but dont worry, Ive bribed some of the developers and our next update will eliminate this step completely. Just create a partial class for each entity you have mapped and add the attribute [DataServiceKey] on top of it along with the keys field name. If you have any complex properties, you will need to make them a primitive type, as I do in line 15. Create this as a separate file, dont manipulate the generated data access classes in case you want to regenerate them again later (even thought that would be much faster.) 1: using System.Data.Services.Common; 2:   3: namespace Telerik.RLINQ.Astoria.Web 4: { 5: [DataServiceKey("CustomerID")] 6: public partial class Customer 7: { 8: } 9:   10: [DataServiceKey("OrderID")] 11: public partial class Order 12: { 13: } 14:   15: [DataServiceKey(new string[] { "OrderID", "ProductID" })] 16: public partial class OrderDetail 17: { 18: } 19:   20: } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; }   Done! Time to run the service. Now, lets run the service! Select the svc file and right click and say View in Browser. You will see your OData service and can interact with it in the browser. Now that you have an OData service set up, you can consume it in one of the many ways that OData is consumed: using LINQ, the Silverlight OData client, Excel PowerPivot, or PhP, etc. Happy Data Servicing!
