  • When should I increment version number?

    - by ahmed
I didn't learn programming at school and I do not work as a (professional) developer, hence a lot of basics are not quite clear to me. This question tries to clarify one of them. Now let's suppose that I have issues #1, #2 and #3 in my Issues Tracker that are set to be corrected/enhanced for version 1.0.0 and that the last (stable) version is 0.9.0. When should I increment to version 1.0.0 ? When a) just one of the listed above issues is closed or b) when all the issues related to version 1.0 are closed ? Which one is the right way to do it ? And by the right way, I mean what is currently used in the industry. Thanks.

  • Release Notes for 11/28/2012

This week we wrapped up a set of work to improve the actions and navigation within the project tabs. Now each tab in a project has a more consistent interaction experience. The navigation and filter activities are on the left side and action based links on the right. For example, on the Issue Tracker tab, the Basic and Advanced filters are on the left and the ability to create a new issue and subscribe the project are on the right.   Have ideas on how to improve CodePlex?

  • Bug Tracking Etiquette - Necromancy or Duplicate?

    - by Shauna
I came across a really old (2+ years) feature request issue in a bug tracker for an open source project that was marked as "resolved (won't fix)" due to the lack of tools required to make the requested enhancement. In the time elapsed since that determination was made, new tools have been developed that would allow it to be resolved, and I'd like to bring that to the attention of the community for that application. However, I'm not sure as to what the generally accepted etiquette is for bug tracking in cases like this. Obviously, if the system explicitly states to not duplicate and will actively mark new items as duplicates (much in the way the SE sites do), then the answer would be to follow what the system says. But what about when the system doesn't explicitly say that, or a new user can't easily find a place that says with the system's preference is? Is it generally considered better to err on the side of duplication or necromancy? Does this differ depending on whether it's a bug or a feature request?

  • What has been your experience with paid support from Canonical ?

    - by gabkdlly
I am considering buying "Ubuntu Desktop Support" from Canonical for 2 reasons: I have a couple of issues that I would like professional help with. ( Specifically a recurring kernel panic, and a slow wireless connection. ) I would like to lend a helping hand toward supporting Ubuntu financially. However, I am a bit worried that once I transfer the money, they will end up just referring me to the bug tracker on Launchpad. Also, free support options like this site have the pleasant property that they are open to the internet, meaning that if my issue gets fixed, it is more likely to help others with the same problem. What does paying for support from Canonical actually get you ?

  • MVC 2 in 2 Minutes!

    - by Steve Michelotti
In a couple of recent Code Camps, I’ve given my presentation: Top 10 Ways MVC 2 Will Boost Your Productivity. In the presentation, I cover all major new features introduced in MVC 2 with a focus on productivity enhancements. To drive the point home, I conclude with a final demo where I build a couple of screens from scratch highlighting many (but not all) of the features previously covered in the talk. A couple of weeks ago, I was asked to make it available online so here it is. In 2 minutes the demo builds a couple screens from scratch that provide a goal setting tracker for a user. MVC 2 features included in the video are: Template Helpers / Editor Templates Server-side/Client-side Validation Model Metadata for View Model HTML Encoding Syntax Dependency Injection Abstract Controllers Custom T4 Templates Custom MVC Visual Studio 2010 Code Snippets The complete code samples and slide deck can be downloaded here: Top 10 Ways MVC 2 Will Boost Your Productivity. • JCP.Next Progress Updates

    - by heathervc
JSR 355, JCP Executive Committee Merge, is currently nearing the end of the Public Review period.  Review the current draft here and provide feedback here.  The review closes on 12 June 2012.  The JCP Executive Committee met face to face in Sao Paulo, Brazil earlier in May, and has published a revision (version 2.1) of the EC Standing Rules.  The EC Standing Rules were introduced in October 2011 with the launch of JCP version 2.8 (JSR 348).  Version 2.1 of the EC Standing Rules will modify rules for attendance at EC face-to-face meetings. Remote observers will be permitted in "read-only" mode but unless a member attends in person they will be counted as absent.  The review period for these changes will close on June 30 2012.  Please comment on the proposed changes by logging an issue in the JCP EC issue tracker.

  • What language has the best/most library bindings?

    - by Rook
A library binding allows a programming language to use a library written in another language. Most commonly you want to access a C library like libcurl from a language like PHP or Python. Not all bindings are created equally, for instance the libcurl binding for Python was abandoned almost 3 years ago and their sf.net bug tracker is overrun with unsolved problems. PHP on the other hand has very good libcurl bindings that are actively maintained. So here is my question: What language has the best and/or the most bindings?

  • How to remove options from right click menu?

    - by Someone Like You
There was this question, which suggest the use of Nautilus actions So i installed that. I try to open it but it does not open. I'm not asking you to fix it since Ask Ubuntu is not a bug tracker. All bug reports here will be closed as off-topic Fair enough, and i don't have time to report bugs, anyway Nautilus actions doesn't seem to care about the bug, it was reported before no actions were taken. Thus I don't seem to care about Nautilus actions. My question is simple: I want to know is there any alternative to Nautilus actions, or even better, how to add/remove options from the right click menu manually (without using any other software).

  • krunner unreadable black text on black background. File a bug? Where?

    - by user52784
I'm running Kubuntu 12.04 beta2 (up to date). Already tried to create a user from the scratch but the problem can still be replicated. I'll make it simple: with any of the available themes (air, air 4 netbooks, oxygen) whenever I disable desktop effects, KRunner instantly becomes black (with black fonts) rendering itself useless because of its unreadable text. Here is a screenshot I took: http://i42.tinypic.com/348sz7n.jpg The weird thing is that with effects enabled KRunner is "light gray" and perfectly functional. What can I do? Should I file a bug? If yes: where? On the KDE bug tracker or the Kubuntu one? Thanks in advance!

Adobe a do...

  • Personal Activity Monitor tracks time you spend using desktop apps

Up until a couple of years ago, I used to turn to RescueTime to figure out how I spend my time online. Then it got too complex, and I stopped using it. Personal Activity Monitor is like a vastly dumbed-down version of RescueTime, and I mean that as a compliment. It's free and bare-bones -- all it does is track what applications you're using and for how long. A big drawback at this point is that it doesn't integrate with Web browsers to help you analyze how you spend your time on the Web. Still, if your work doesn't require constant Web app use, knowing how long you've used a browser overall might be enough to help you manage your time. This is far from the only application in this space -- alternatives such as Slife and Chrometa are full-featured and impressive -- but PAM is good option for those who want a nice, simple tracker.Personal Activity Monitor tracks time you spend using desktop apps originally appeared on Download Squad on Sat, 05 Mar 2011 10:00:00 EST. • Java EE @ NFJS Central Iowa Software Symposium Des Moines

    - by reza_rahman
As some of you may be aware I recently joined the well-respected US based No Fluff Just Stuff (NFJS) Tour. The NFJS Central Iowa Software Symposium was held August 8 - 10 in Des Moines. The Des Moines show is one of the smaller ones but still was good overall. It is one of the few events of it's kind that take place this part the country so it is extremely important. I had five talks total over two days, more or less back-to-back. I had decent attendance for all my sessions and had many of the same folks staying for multiple sessions which is always a very good sign. I did talks on Java EE 7/Java EE 8, WebSocket, the Cargo Tracker Java EE Blue Prints, JavaScript + Java EE and NoSQL + Java EE. More details, including slide decks and code as well as my NFJS tour schedule, posted on my personal blog.

  • Get current active window's title in Java

    - by Steven
I am trying to write a Java program that logs what application I'm using every 5 seconds (this is a time tracker app). I need some way to find out what the current active window is. I found KeyboardFocusManager.getGlobalActiveWindow() but I can't get it to work right. A cross platform solution is preferable, but if one doesn't exist, then I'm developing for linux with X.Org. Thanks.

  • ASP.NET web application can't find an assembly

    - by Charlie Somerville
I deployed an ASP.NET web application last night and I when I woke up this morning it was very slow and would occasionally just throw a 'Service Unavailable' error. I checked the Event Viewer and it was filled up with these errors: I'm puzzled as it was working perfectly when I deployed it (MonoTorrent is required to retrieve the number of seeders/leechers for a certain torrent off the tracker - this was working fine), but it's no longer working and whenever code that uses MonoTorrent gets involved, the worker process just crashes. MonoTorrent.dll is in the /bin/ directory.

  • Free Time Tracking Web Application

Are you aware of any good time tracking web application (hosted, download) that is free or open source? I am looking for something to track the time I spend on projects and bug fixes. I am already looking at ASP .NET 2.0 Time Tracker Starter Kit but wanted to see if there is anything else out there or should I write my own application.
