  • How can I move TinyMCE's toolbar into a modal popup?

    - by Nate Wagar
    I'm using TinyMCE & jQuery and am having a problem moving TinyMCE's external toolbar to another location in the DOM. To further complicate things, there are multiple TinyMCE instances on the page. I only want the toolbar for the one that's currently being edited. Here's some sample code: $(textarea).tinymce({ setup: function(ed) {setupMCEToolbar(ed, componentID, displaySettingsPane)} ,script_url: '/clubs/data/shared/scripts/tiny_mce/tiny_mce.js' ,theme : "advanced" ,plugins : "safari,pagebreak,style,layer,table,save,advhr,advimage,advlink,emotions,iespell,inlinepopups,insertdatetime,preview,media,searchreplace,print,contextmenu,paste,directionality,fullscreen,noneditable,visualchars,nonbreaking,xhtmlxtras,template" ,theme_advanced_buttons1 : "save,newdocument,|,bold,italic,underline,strikethrough,|,justifyleft,justifycenter,justifyright,justifyfull,styleselect,formatselect,fontselect,fontsizeselect" ,theme_advanced_buttons2 : "cut,copy,paste,pastetext,pasteword,|,search,replace,|,bullist,numlist,|,outdent,indent,blockquote,|,undo,redo,|,link,unlink,anchor,image,cleanup,help,code,|,insertdate,inserttime,preview,|,forecolor,backcolor" ,theme_advanced_buttons3 : "tablecontrols,|,hr,removeformat,visualaid,|,sub,sup,|,charmap,emotions,iespell,media,advhr,|,print,|,ltr,rtl,|,fullscreen" ,theme_advanced_buttons4 : "insertlayer,moveforward,movebackward,absolute,|,styleprops,|,cite,abbr,acronym,del,ins,attribs,|,visualchars,nonbreaking,template,pagebreak" ,theme_advanced_toolbar_location : "external" ,theme_advanced_toolbar_align : "left" ,theme_advanced_statusbar_location : "bottom" ,theme_advanced_resizing : true }); var setupMCEToolbar = function (mce, componentID, displaySettingsPane) { mce.onClick.add(function(ed,e){ displaySettingsPane($('#' + componentID)); $('#' + componentID).fetch('.mceExternalToolbar').eq(0).appendTo('#settingsPaneContent'); }); } Basically, it seems as though the setupMCEToolbar function cannot track down the mceExternalToolbar to move it. Has anyone ever had success trying to do something like this? EDIT It's a Monday alright... it couldn't find the external toolbar because I was using children() instead of fetch(). There's still an issue in that: 1) Moving it is incredibly slow and 2) Once it moves, TinyMCE breaks. EDIT 2 A bit more clarification: The modal is draggable, thus making any purely-CSS workarounds a bit awkward...

  • How to set HTMLField's widget's height in Admin?

    - by Georgie Porgie
    I have a HTMLField in a model as it's the laziest way to utilize tinymce widget in Admin. But the problem is that the textarea field doesn't have "rows" property set. So the textarea doesn't have enough height comfortable enough for editing in Admin. Is there any way to set the height of HTMLField without defining a ModelAdmin class? Update: I solved the problem by using the following code: def create_mce_formfield(db_field): return db_field.formfield(widget = TinyMCE( attrs = {'cols': 80, 'rows': 30}, mce_attrs = { 'external_link_list_url': reverse('tinymce.views.flatpages_link_list'), 'plugin_preview_pageurl': reverse('tinymce-preview', args= ('tinymce',)), 'plugins': "safari,pagebreak,style,layer,table,save,advhr,advimage,advlink,emotions,iespell,inlinepopups,insertdatetime,preview,media,searchreplace,print,contextmenu,paste,directionality,fullscreen,noneditable,visualchars,nonbreaking,xhtmlxtras,template", 'theme_advanced_buttons1': "save,newdocument,|,bold,italic,underline,strikethrough,|,justifyleft,justifycenter,justifyright,justifyfull,styleselect,formatselect,fontselect,fontsizeselect", 'theme_advanced_buttons2': "cut,copy,paste,pastetext,pasteword,|,search,replace,|,bullist,numlist,|,outdent,indent,blockquote,|,undo,redo,|,link,unlink,anchor,image,cleanup,help,code,|,insertdate,inserttime,preview,|,forecolor,backcolor", 'theme_advanced_buttons3': "tablecontrols,|,hr,removeformat,visualaid,|,sub,sup,|,charmap,emotions,iespell,media,advhr,|,print,|,ltr,rtl,|,fullscreen", 'theme_advanced_buttons4': "insertlayer,moveforward,movebackward,absolute,|,styleprops,|,cite,abbr,acronym,del,ins,attribs,|,visualchars,nonbreaking,template,pagebreak", 'theme_advanced_toolbar_location': "top", 'theme_advanced_toolbar_align': "left", 'theme_advanced_statusbar_location': "bottom", 'theme_advanced_resizing': True, 'extended_valid_elements': "iframe[src|title|width|height|allowfullscreen|frameborder|webkitAllowFullScreen|mozallowfullscreen|allowFullScreen]", }, )) class TinyMCEFlatPageAdmin(FlatPageAdmin): def formfield_for_dbfield(self, db_field, **kwargs): if db_field.name == 'content': return create_mce_formfield(db_field) return super(TinyMCEFlatPageAdmin, self).formfield_for_dbfield(db_field, **kwargs)

  • .NET MVC: How to fix Visual Studio's lack of awareness of CSS classes in partial views?

    - by Mega Matt
    Hi all, This has been sort of an annoyance for me for a while. I make pretty heavy use of partial views in MVC, and am using Visual Studio 2008 to develop. The problem is that when I give html elements a class in a partial view (<div class="someClass">), it will underline them in green like it doesn't know what they are. I realize this is because I'm in a partial view, and haven't put link tags anywhere in that file for it to know where the CSS is (the link tags are in the main view that renders the partial view). The CSS still works fine on my site because the browser will render all views as one long html page anyway, but it's really annoying to look through my partial views and see all of my classes underlined in green. Is there a way that I can still tell Visual Studio that those classes exist somewhere, from the partial view? I figured there has to be a way to let it know, but am not sure what it is. Maybe a way to import the stylesheets from the parent view? Thanks for your help.

  • Need help getting Wysihat to work

    - by slythic
    Hi all, I'm using Wysihat in a rails project and am stumped by it's inability to bind to my textarea named post_description (model name Post field name description). I have the following in my head tag: <%= javascript_include_tag 'prototype_1.7'%> <%= javascript_include_tag 'wysihat' %> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"> document.on("dom:loaded", function() { var editor = WysiHat.Editor.attach('post_description'); var toolbar = new WysiHat.Toolbar(editor); toolbar.addButtonSet(WysiHat.Toolbar.ButtonSets.Basic); // Hide our error message if the editor loads fine $('error').hide(); }); </script> I'm able to see Wysihat works (the bold, italic, and underline tools are shown and when click works as intended). The following in the source of the posts/new HTML: <div id="post_description_editor" class="editor" contenteditable="true"></div> <textarea cols="40" id="post_description" name="post[description]" rows="20" style="display: none; "></textarea> However, when I type something in the description field and click submit the post validation fails saying the description field is empty. Anyone have any clue on how I can get this to work? Thanks in advance!

  • HTML - Styling a input type=submit as an anchor and removing extra space rendered

    - by Malcolm
    Hi, I have the following HTML and you can see the extra space between the links when the page renders. How do trim this space? <div class="navLinks" style="text-align:right;margin-bottom:30px;"> <form action="/Invoice/SetPaid" method="post"><input id="id" name="id" type="hidden" value="11356" /> <input type="submit" value="Set To Paid" /> </form><form action="/Invoice/WorkInProgress" method="post"><input id="id" name="id" type="hidden" value="11356" /> <input type="submit" value="Set To Work In Progress" /> </form><form action="/Invoice/PrintVersion/11356" method="post"><input id="id" name="id" type="hidden" value="11356" /> <input type="submit" value="Printable Version" /> </form><form action="/Home/User" method="post"><input id="id" name="id" type="hidden" value="11356" /> <input type="submit" value="Continue" /> </form> </div> .navLinks form { display:inline; } .navLinks input { text-decoration:underline; background-color:white; color: #034af3; border: 0px none; text-align:center; } .navLinks input:hover { text-decoration:none; }

  • Tiny MCE (jquery plugin version) not showing toolbar in IE (works fine in other browsers)

    - by I am Wonder
    I had an implementation working well but for some reason IE decided it was tired of playing nice. I have an advanced implementation of TinyMCE (the jquery plugin version - see http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/examples/example_23.php for details). It still works great in all browsers but IE. In IE it shows the drop-down options for Format, Font family, and Font size, but only as text.. not as a drop down normally looks. All other buttons on the toolbar are missing. (I've tried IE8 and IE8 Compatibility Mode) I get a javascript error: Syntax error Line 36 Char 1. Unfortunately the javascript is being loaded dynamically so this doesn't help me. Here is my implementation code for the TinyMCE editor: $(function () { $('#InputStuffHere').tinymce({ // General options theme: "advanced", plugins: "safari,pagebreak,style,layer,table,save,advhr,advimage,advlink,inlinepopups,preview,media,searchreplace,contextmenu,paste,fullscreen,noneditable,visualchars,nonbreaking,template", // Theme options theme_advanced_buttons1: "bold,italic,underline,strikethrough,|,justifyleft,justifycenter,justifyright,justifyfull,formatselect,fontselect,fontsizeselect,|,hr,removeformat", theme_advanced_buttons2: "cut,copy,paste,pastetext,pasteword,|,search,replace,|,bullist,numlist,|,outdent,indent,blockquote,|,undo,redo,|,link,unlink,image,|,forecolor,backcolor,|,spellchecker", theme_advanced_buttons3 : "", theme_advanced_toolbar_location: "top", theme_advanced_toolbar_align: "left", theme_advanced_statusbar_location: "bottom", theme_advanced_resizing: true, // Drop lists for link/image/media/template dialogs template_external_list_url: "lists/template_list.js", external_link_list_url: "lists/link_list.js", external_image_list_url: "lists/image_list.js", media_external_list_url: "lists/media_list.js", //initialization callback init_instance_callback: "TinyMCEReady", add_form_submit_trigger : false }); }); So... anyone seen anything like this or have any ideas for me? Thank you so much everyone!

  • Background-image is not displaying in Firefox

    Strange thing happens. Background-image is not displaying in Firefox under some versions of WindowsXP and Windows Vista, but displays in Firefox under Mac OSX. It also displays in IE. This is CSS: .cherry_banner { background: url("library/media/images/cherry_banner_top.png") no-repeat; width: 276px; display:block; min-height:100px; padding-top: 13px; color: #fdfdfd; margin-bottom:20px; } .cherry_banner a { color: #fdfdfd; } .cherry_banner a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } .cherry_banner li { list-style-type:none; } .cherry_banner h2 { font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 10px; } .chb_text1 { background: url("library/media/images/cherry_banner_pixel.png") repeat-y; } .chb_text2 { background: url("library/media/images/cherry_banner_bottom.gif") bottom no-repeat; padding: 4px 14px 24px 25px; } And this is html: <div id="linkcat-8" class="cherry_banner tpt"><div class="chb_text1"><div class="chb_text2"> <h2>??? ?????????</h2> <ul class='xoxo blogroll'> <li><a href="http://inveda.ru/jyotish/naksatra-calendar/">???????? ?????????? ?????????????? ????????? ????????????? ??? ?? 2010?.</a></li> </ul> </div></div></div> You can see on http://www.inveda.ru - right column - red banner.

  • Help with Collapse and Expand Accordion at same time using JQuery (demo)

    - by Evan
    I'm stuck on an Expand/Collapse accordion using JQuery. After the initial headline is clicked and it expands, if you click to another headline it will collapse the former headline completely FIRST then it will expand the headline you clicked. This collapse first then expand second technique is very distracting and what should happen is as the headline is expanding it should collapse the initial headline. What am I missing? You can experience a demo here: http://media.apus.edu/it/evan-testing/accordion.htm Below is all my work Javascript <script src="http://www.apus.edu/bin/l/y/jquery-1.3.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> //<!-- $(document).ready(function() { $(".accordian>li.expanded").removeClass("expanded"); $(".accordian>li h2").addClass("jse").click(function() { var doOpen = !$(this).parent().hasClass('expanded'); var openContainers = $(".accordian>li.expanded").length>0; var targetNode = this; if(openContainers) { $(".accordian>li.expanded h2") .parent() .removeClass('expanded') .end() .nextAll() .slideUp(100,function(){ if($(".accordian>li.expanded").length==0) performOpen(doOpen,targetNode); }); } else { performOpen(doOpen,targetNode); } // if containers are open, proceed on callback // else proceed immediately }).nextAll().slideUp(100); }); function performOpen(doOpen,whichNode) { if(doOpen) { $('html,body').animate({scrollTop: $(whichNode).offset().top}, 1000); //target code $(whichNode).nextAll().slideDown(100).parent().addClass('expanded'); } } //--> </script> CSS <style> .accordian { list-style : none; padding : 0px; margin : 0px; font-size : 12px; } .accordian li { list-style : none; padding : 0px; margin : 0px; } .accordian li a:hover { text-decoration : underline; } .accordian li h2 { cursor : auto; text-decoration : none; padding : 0px 0px 4px 22px; } .accordian li h2.jse { background-image : url(http://www.apus.edu/bin/m/p/toggle_arrow.gif); background-position : 4px -35px; background-repeat : no-repeat; } .accordian li h2:hover { cursor : pointer; text-decoration : underline; } .accordian li li { margin-bottom : 5px; margin-left : 0px; margin-top : 0px; padding : 0px; } .accordian li p { display : block; padding-top : 0px; padding-bottom : 15px; padding-left : 10px; margin-left : 30px; margin-top : 0px; } .accordian li ul { margin-bottom : 30px; margin-top : 0px; padding-top : 0px; padding-left : 0px; margin-left : 0px; } .accordian li.expanded h2.jse { background-position : 4px -5px; } .accordianContainer { margin-top : 0px; padding-top : 0px; } .accordianContainer h2 { padding : 3px; } .accordian_nolist { list-style : none; } </style> HTML <table height="120"><tr><td>&nbsp;</td></tr></table> <div class="accordianContainer"> <ul class="accordian"> <li><h2>Title 1 Goes here - If you take a look at the site in IE the right column seems to drop down and is not aligned with the right and centre column.   • Right Hand Column Does Not Align Properly in IE6/7/8

    - by Kalpesh Vasta
    Hi Guys, I'm new to this but here goes. I have been developing this website http://www.panelmaster.co.uk and i have managed to solve the majority of design problems but one! If you take a look at the site in IE the right column seems to drop down and is not aligned with the right and centre column. This problem only occurs in IE as upon testing i found it was fine in firefox and safari. I have provided below the CSS for the website. I would appreciate if you guys can help me with the problem. Thanks in advance. :) ========================== body { margin: 0; padding: 0; line-height: 1.5em; font-family: Tahoma, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; color: #666; background-image: url(images/templatemo_body_top.jpg); For example, to use with the two sample programs QueueSend.java and QueueReceive.java which will be shown in later examples. Additional, detailed information on JMS can be found in the following Oracle documentation: Oracle® Fusion Middleware Configuring and Managing JMS for Oracle WebLogic Server 11g Release 1 (10.3.6) Part Number E13738-06 http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/e13738/toc.htm 1. Introduction and Definitions A JMS queue in Weblogic Server is associated with a number of additional resources: JMS Server A JMS server acts as a management container for resources within JMS modules. Some of its responsibilities include the maintenance of persistence and state of messages and subscribers. A JMS server is required in order to create a JMS module. JMS Module A JMS module is a definition which contains JMS resources such as queues and topics. A JMS module is required in order to create a JMS queue. Subdeployment JMS modules are targeted to one or more WLS instances or a cluster. Resources within a JMS module, such as queues and topics are also targeted to a JMS server or WLS server instances. A subdeployment is a grouping of targets. It is also known as advanced targeting. Connection Factory A connection factory is a resource that enables JMS clients to create connections to JMS destinations. JMS Queue A JMS queue (as opposed to a JMS topic) is a point-to-point destination type. A message is written to a specific queue or received from a specific queue. The objects used in this example are: Object Name Type JNDI Name TestJMSServer JMS Server TestJMSModule JMS Module TestSubDeployment Subdeployment TestConnectionFactory Connection Factory jms/TestConnectionFactory TestJMSQueue JMS Queue jms/TestJMSQueue 2. Configuration Steps The following steps are done in the WebLogic Server Console, beginning with the left-hand navigation menu. 2.1 Create a JMS Server Services > Messaging > JMS Servers Select New Name: TestJMSServer Persistent Store: (none) Target: soa_server1  (or choose an available server) Finish The JMS server should now be visible in the list with Health OK. 2.2 Create a JMS Module Services > Messaging > JMS Modules Select New Name: TestJMSModule Leave the other options empty Targets: soa_server1  (or choose the same one as the JMS server)Press Next Leave “Would you like to add resources to this JMS system module” unchecked and  press Finish . 2.3 Create a SubDeployment A subdeployment is not necessary for the JMS queue to work, but it allows you to easily target subcomponents of the JMS module to a single target or group of targets. We will use the subdeployment in this example to target the following connection factory and JMS queue to the JMS server we created earlier. Services > Messaging > JMS Modules Select TestJMSModule Select the Subdeployments  tab and New Subdeployment Name: TestSubdeployment Press Next Here you can select the target(s) for the subdeployment. You can choose either Servers (i.e. WebLogic managed servers, such as the soa_server1) or JMS Servers such as the JMS Server created earlier. As the purpose of our subdeployment in this example is to target a specific JMS server, we will choose the JMS Server option. Select the TestJMSServer created earlier Press Finish 2.4  Create a Connection Factory Services > Messaging > JMS Modules Select TestJMSModule  and press New Select Connection Factory  and Next Name: TestConnectionFactory JNDI Name: jms/TestConnectionFactory Leave the other values at default On the Targets page, select the Advanced Targeting  button and select TestSubdeployment Press Finish The connection factory should be listed on the following page with TestSubdeployment and TestJMSServer as the target. 2.5 Create a JMS Queue Services > Messaging > JMS Modules Select TestJMSModule  and press New Select Queue and Next Name: TestJMSQueueJNDI Name: jms/TestJMSQueueTemplate: NonePress Next Subdeployments: TestSubdeployment Finish The TestJMSQueue should be listed on the following page with TestSubdeployment and TestJMSServer. Confirm the resources for the TestJMSModule. Using the Domain Structure tree, navigate to soa_domain > Services > Messaging > JMS Modules then select TestJMSModule You should see the following resources The JMS queue is now complete and can be accessed using the JNDI names jms/TestConnectionFactory andjms/TestJMSQueue. In the following blog post in this series, I will show you how to write a message to this queue, using the WebLogic sample Java program QueueSend.java.

  • SharePoint 2010 Hosting :: How to Customize SharePoint 2010 Global Navigation

    - by mbridge
    Requirements - SharePoint Foundation or SharePoint Server 2010 site - SharePoint Designer 2010 Steps 1. The first step in my process was to download from codeplex a starter masterpage http://startermasterpages.codeplex.com/ . 2. Once you downloaded the starter master page, open up your SharePoint site in SharePoint Designer 2010 and on the left in the “Site Objects “ area click on the folder “All Files” and drill down to catalogs >> masterpages . Once you are in the Masterpage folder copy and paste the _starter.master into this folder. 3. The first step in the customization process is to create your custom style sheet. To create your custom style sheet, click on the “all Files” folder and click on “Style Library.” Right click in the style library section and choose Style sheet. Once the style sheet is created, rename it style.css. Now open the style sheet you created in SharePoint Designer. 4. In this next step you will copy and paste the SharePoint core styles for the global navigation into your custom style sheet. Copy and paste the css below into the style sheet and save file .s4-tn{ padding:0px; margin:0px; } .s4-tn ul.static{ white-space:nowrap; } .s4-tn li.static > .menu-item{ /* [ReplaceColor(themeColor:"Dark2")] */ color:#3b4f65; white-space:nowrap; border:1px solid transparent; padding:4px 10px; display:inline-block; height:15px; vertical-align:middle; } .s4-tn ul.dynamic{ /* [ReplaceColor(themeColor:"Light2")] */ background-color:white; /* [ReplaceColor(themeColor:"Dark2-Lighter")] */ border:1px solid #D9D9D9; } .s4-tn li.dynamic > .menu-item{ display:block; padding:3px 10px; white-space:nowrap; font-weight:normal; } .s4-tn li.dynamic > a:hover{ font-weight:normal; /* [ReplaceColor(themeColor:"Light2-Lighter")] */ background-color:#D9D9D9; } .s4-tn li.static > a:hover { /* [ReplaceColor(themeColor:"Accent1")] */ color:#44aff6; text-decoration:underline; } 5. Once you created the style sheet, go back to the masterpage folder and open the _starter.master file and in the Customization category click edit file. 6. Next, when the edit file opens make sure you view it in split view. Now you are going to search for the reference to our custom masterpage in the code. Make sure you are scrolled to the top in the code section and press “ctrl f” on the key board. This will pop up the find and replace tool. In the” find what field”, copy and paste and then click find next. 7. Now, in the code replace You have now referenced your custom style sheet in your masterpage. 8. The next step is to locate your Global Navigation control, make sure you are scrolled to the top in the code section and press “ctrl f” on the key board. This will pop up the find and replace tool. In the” find what field”, copy and paste ID="TopNavigationMenuV4” and then click find next. Once you find ID="TopNavigationMenuV4” , you should see the following block of code which is the global navigation control: ID="TopNavigationMenuV4" Runat="server" EnableViewState="false" DataSourceID="topSiteMap" AccessKey="" UseSimpleRendering="true" UseSeparateCss="false" Orientation="Horizontal" StaticDisplayLevels="1" MaximumDynamicDisplayLevels="1" SkipLinkText="" CssClass="s4-tn" 9. In the global navigation code above you should see CssClass="s4-tn" . As an additional step you can replace "s4-tn" your own custom name like CssClass="MyNav" . If you can the name of the CSS class make sure you update your custom style sheet with the new name, example below: .MyNav{ padding:0px; margin:0px; } .MyNav ul.static{ white-space:nowrap; } 10. At this point you are ready to brand your global navigation. The next step is to modify your style.css with your customizations to the default SharePoint styles. Have fun styling and make sure you save your work often. Hope it helps!!

  • Check Your Spelling, Grammar, and Style in Firefox and Chrome

    - by Matthew Guay
    Are you tired of making simple writing mistakes that get past your browser’s spell-check?  Here’s how you can get advanced grammar check and more in Firefox and Chrome with After the Deadline. Microsoft Word has spoiled us with grammar, syntax, and spell checking, but the default spell check in Firefox and Chrome still only does basic checks.  Even webapps like Google Docs don’t check more than basic spelling errors.  However, WordPress.com is an exception; it offers advanced spelling, grammar, and syntax checking with its After the Deadline proofing system.  This helps you keep from making embarrassing mistakes on your blog posts, and now, thanks to a couple free browser plugins, it can help you keep from making these mistakes in any website or webapp. After the Deadline in Google Chrome Add the After the Deadline extension (link below) to Chrome as usual. As soon as it’s installed, you’re ready to start improving your online writing.  To check spelling, grammar, and more, click the ABC button that you’ll now see at the bottom of most text boxes online. After a quick scan, grammar mistakes are highlighted in green, complex expressions and other syntax problems are highlighted in blue, and spelling mistakes are highlighted in red as would be expected.  Click on an underlined word to choose one of its recommended changes or ignore the suggestion. Or, if you want more explanation about what was wrong with that word or phrase, click Explain for more info. And, if you forget to run an After the Deadline scan before submitting a text entry, it will automatically check to make sure you still want to submit it.  Click Cancel to go back and check your writing first.   To change the After the Deadline settings, click its icon in the toolbar and select View Options.  Additionally, if you want to disable it on the site you’re on, you can click Disable on this site directly from the popup. From the settings page, you can choose extra things to check for such as double negatives and redundant phrases, as well as add sites and words to ignore. After the Deadline in Firefox Add the After the Deadline add-on to Firefox (link below) as normal. After the Deadline basically the same in Firefox as it does in Chrome.  Select the ABC icon in the lower right corner of textboxes to check them for problems, and After the Deadline will underline the problems as it did in Chrome.  To view a suggested change in Firefox, right-click on the underlined word and select the recommended change or ignore the suggestion. And, if you forget to check, you’ll see a friendly reminder asking if you’re sure you want to submit your text like it is. You can access the After the Deadline settings in Firefox from the menu bar.  Click Tools, then select AtD Preferences.  In Firefox, the settings are in a options dialog with three tabs, but it includes the same options as the Chrome settings page.  Here you can make After the Deadline as correction-happy as you like.   Conclusion The web has increasingly become an interactive place, and seldom does a day go by that we aren’t entering text in forms and comments that may stay online forever.  Even our insignificant tweets are being archived in the Library of Congress.  After the Deadline can help you make sure that your permanent internet record is as grammatically correct as possible.  Even though it doesn’t catch every problem, and even misses some spelling mistakes, it’s still a great help. • Why enumerator structs are a really bad idea

    - by Simon Cooper
    If you've ever poked around the .NET class libraries in Reflector, I'm sure you would have noticed that the generic collection classes all have implementations of their IEnumerator as a struct rather than a class. As you will see, this design decision has some rather unfortunate side effects... As is generally known in the .NET world, mutable structs are a Very Bad Idea; and there are several other blogs around explaining this (Eric Lippert's blog post explains the problem quite well). In the BCL, the generic collection enumerators are all mutable structs, as they need to keep track of where they are in the collection. This bit me quite hard when I was coding a wrapper around a LinkedList<int>.Enumerator. It boils down to this code: sealed class EnumeratorWrapper : IEnumerator<int> { private readonly LinkedList<int>.Enumerator m_Enumerator; public EnumeratorWrapper(LinkedList<int> linkedList) { m_Enumerator = linkedList.GetEnumerator(); } public int Current { get { return m_Enumerator.Current; } } object System.Collections.IEnumerator.Current { get { return Current; } } public bool MoveNext() { return m_Enumerator.MoveNext(); } public void Reset() { ((System.Collections.IEnumerator)m_Enumerator).Reset(); } public void Dispose() { m_Enumerator.Dispose(); } } The key line here is the MoveNext method. When I initially coded this, I thought that the call to m_Enumerator.MoveNext() would alter the enumerator state in the m_Enumerator class variable and so the enumeration would proceed in an orderly fashion through the collection. However, when I ran this code it went into an infinite loop - the m_Enumerator.MoveNext() call wasn't actually changing the state in the m_Enumerator variable at all, and my code was looping forever on the first collection element. It was only after disassembling that method that I found out what was going on The MoveNext method above results in the following IL: .method public hidebysig newslot virtual final instance bool MoveNext() cil managed { .maxstack 1 .locals init ( [0] bool CS$1$0000, [1] valuetype [System]System.Collections.Generic.LinkedList`1/Enumerator CS$0$0001) L_0000: nop L_0001: ldarg.0 L_0002: ldfld valuetype [System]System.Collections.Generic.LinkedList`1/Enumerator EnumeratorWrapper::m_Enumerator L_0007: stloc.1 L_0008: ldloca.s CS$0$0001 L_000a: call instance bool [System]System.Collections.Generic.LinkedList`1/Enumerator::MoveNext() L_000f: stloc.0 L_0010: br.s L_0012 L_0012: ldloc.0 L_0013: ret } Here, the important line is 0002 - m_Enumerator is accessed using the ldfld operator, which does the following: Finds the value of a field in the object whose reference is currently on the evaluation stack. So, what the MoveNext method is doing is the following: public bool MoveNext() { LinkedList<int>.Enumerator CS$0$0001 = this.m_Enumerator; bool CS$1$0000 = CS$0$0001.MoveNext(); return CS$1$0000; } The enumerator instance being modified by the call to MoveNext is the one stored in the CS$0$0001 variable on the stack, and not the one in the EnumeratorWrapper class instance. Hence why the state of m_Enumerator wasn't getting updated. Hmm, ok. Well, why is it doing this? If you have a read of Eric Lippert's blog post about this issue, you'll notice he quotes a few sections of the C# spec. In particular, 7.5.4: ...if the field is readonly and the reference occurs outside an instance constructor of the class in which the field is declared, then the result is a value, namely the value of the field I in the object referenced by E. And my m_Enumerator field is readonly! Indeed, if I remove the readonly from the class variable then the problem goes away, and the code works as expected. The IL confirms this: .method public hidebysig newslot virtual final instance bool MoveNext() cil managed { .maxstack 1 .locals init ( [0] bool CS$1$0000) L_0000: nop L_0001: ldarg.0 L_0002: ldflda valuetype [System]System.Collections.Generic.LinkedList`1/Enumerator EnumeratorWrapper::m_Enumerator L_0007: call instance bool [System]System.Collections.Generic.LinkedList`1/Enumerator::MoveNext() L_000c: stloc.0 L_000d: br.s L_000f L_000f: ldloc.0 L_0010: ret } Notice on line 0002, instead of the ldfld we had before, we've got a ldflda, which does this: Finds the address of a field in the object whose reference is currently on the evaluation stack. Instead of loading the value, we're loading the address of the m_Enumerator field. So now the call to MoveNext modifies the enumerator stored in the class rather than on the stack, and everything works as expected. Previously, I had thought enumerator structs were an odd but interesting feature of the BCL that I had used in the past to do linked list slices. However, effects like this only underline how dangerous mutable structs are, and I'm at a loss to explain why the enumerators were implemented as structs in the first place. (interestingly, the SortedList<TKey, TValue> enumerator is a struct but is private, which makes it even more odd - the only way it can be accessed is as a boxed IEnumerator!). I would love to hear people's theories as to why the enumerators are implemented in such a fashion. And bonus points if you can explain why LinkedList<int>.Enumerator.Reset is an explicit implementation but Dispose is implicit... Note to self: never ever ever code a mutable struct.

  • CSS * {margin: 0;padding: 0;} override

    - by StealthRT
    Hey all, i am in need of some help with figuring out how to override the "* {margin: 0;padding: 0;}" in my css. The reason why is that i have this css: .postcomments { width: 547px; padding: 5px 5px 5px 5px; margin: 0 0 5px 0;} .postcomments a { text-decoration: underline;} .postcomments ul { margin: 0; padding: 0; list-style-type: none;} .postcomments ul li { width: 547px; margin: 0 0 5px 0; padding: 0; list-style-type: none;} .postcomments .right { color: #474747; font-size: 11px; background: #fff url('http://www.nextbowluser.com/img/ucBG.gif') no-repeat top left; line-height: 17px; padding: 5px 0 0 0; width: 430px; position: relative; float: right; min-height: 50px;} .postcomments .right .bottom { padding: 0 5px 15px 5px; background: #fff url('http://www.nextbowluser.com/img/ucBG.gif') no-repeat bottom right; min-height: 50px;} .postcomments .arrow { left: -15px; top: 20px; position: absolute;} .avatar { border: none !important;} .postcomments .left {float: left; margin: 0 7px 0 0;} .postcomments .gravatar { background: #fff; width: 80px; height: 60px; margin: 0 0px 0 0; padding: 3px;} .postcomments .name { font-size: 11px; margin: 2px 0 0 0; color: #000;} .avatar { border: none !important;} and it displays just fine WITHOUT the * {margin: 0;padding: 0;}: 1st comment 2nd comment 3rd comment However, when i add that to the CSS, it makes the comments stack wrong: 1st comment 2nd comment 3rd comment I would just take out the * {margin: 0;padding: 0;} but some other things on the page needs that in order for that to be displayed correctly. So my question is, how can i override the {margin: 0;padding: 0;} for just that postcomments part of the page? Thanks! :o) David

    - by Benchik
    Hello. I'm trying to make alternating rows in JSF2 h:dataTable (no richfaces or such) but i get an unexpected result. the table is built but it has a white grid shown (but i didn't specifiy any border) and there's no buttom line under each row. The CSS: .order-table{ border-collapse:collapse; } .order-table-header{ text-align:center; background:none repeat scroll 0 0 #E5E5E5; border-bottom:1px solid #95bce2; padding:16px; } .order-table-odd-row{ text-align:center; background:none repeat scroll 0 0 #FFFFFFF; border-top:1px solid #000000; } .order-table-even-row{ text-align:center; background:none repeat scroll 0 0 #ecf6fc; border-top:1px solid #BBBBBB; } table.order-table tr.over { background-color: #bcd4ec; } The table: <h:dataTable id="personsTable" value="#{personController.allPersons}" var="bean" styleClass="order-table" headerClass="order-table-header" rowClasses="order-table-odd-row,order-table-even-row"> <h:column> <f:facet name="header"> <h:outputText value="First Name" /> </f:facet> <h:outputText value="#{bean.firstName}"/> </h:column> <h:column> <f:facet name="header"> <h:outputText value="Last Name" /> </f:facet> <h:outputText value="#{bean.lastName}"/> </h:column> <h:column> <f:facet name="header"> <h:outputText value="Phone" /> </f:facet> <h:outputText value="#{bean.phone}"/> </h:column> </h:dataTable> and a small JQuery script: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $(".order-table tr").mouseover(function(){ $(this).addClass("over"); }); $(".order-table tr").mouseout(function(){ $(this).removeClass("over"); }); }); </script> The result is (notice the white grid that came from i don't know where. And also no underline which should come from the CSS): http://imagebin.org/132574

  • Problems with contenteditable in Firefox

    - by Jonathan
    Hello, I am working on a Javascript WYSIWYG editor in Firefox. I am using a div with the contenteditable attribute set to true in order to accomplish this (I cannot use a contenteditable iframe for this particular project). This contenteditable div is nested in another div that is not contenteditable. I am encountering the following two problems when using execCommand to apply formatting, including font style and size, as well as bold, italic, and underline: When all text in the div is selected, execCommand simply does not work. execCommand works fine when only part of the text is selected, but does nothing when all of the text is selected. Applying formatting with no text selected yields unexpected results. For example, when calling execCommand('bold') with no text selected and then typing results in bold text being typed until a spacebar is inserted, at which point the bold formatting is lost (until another space is inserted, interestingly enough; then the text becomes bold again). To see what I mean, please try running the following HTML code in Firefox 3: <html> <head><title></title></head> <body> <button onClick="execCommand('bold', false, null);">Bold</button> <div style="width: 300px; border: 1px solid #000000;"> <div contenteditable="true">Some editable text</div> </div> </body> </html> Please try the following: Select the word "Some" only. Click the Bold button. This will make the text bold, as expected. Select the entire phrase "Some editable text" (either manually or using CTRL-A). Click the Bold button. Nothing happens. This demonstrates the first bug shown above. Hit the backspace key to clear the div. Click the Bold button and begin typing. Type a few words with spaces. This will demonstrate the second bug. Any ideas on what could be causing these problems and how to work around them would be greatly appreciated!

  • Menu Control in Master Page fails to use CSS styles

    - by Shaun
    I'm working on a web application that uses ASP.NET 3.5 and C#. Structurally, I have a master page with a menu control on it. The control serves as my navigation, and it gets its items from a SiteMapDataSource control and a corresponding Web.sitemap file. The problem is that some styles do not render properly when you specify the CssClass property. More specifically, the selected and hover styles don't respond to css styles. Consider the code below: <%@ Master Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Site.master.cs" Inherits="Site" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.or/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title>A webpage</title> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div id="page"> <asp:Menu ID="navMenu" Orientation="Horizontal" StaticMenuStyle-CssClass="staticMenu" StaticMenuItemStyle-CssClass="staticMenuItem" StaticSelectedStyle-CssClass="staticSelectedItem" StaticHoverStyle-CssClass="staticHoverItem" runat="server"> </asp:Menu> <asp:SiteMapDataSource ID="srcSiteMap" runat="server" ShowStartingNode="false" /> <br /> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="server"> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> </div> </form> </body> </html> Suppose I had a corresponding .css file with the following: .staticMenuItem { background-color:Red; } .staticSelectedItem { background-color:Green; } .staticHoverItem { background-color:Blue; } What will happen is that my item backgrounds will properly be red, but my selected item will not be green and the item I'm hovering my mouse over will not be blue. This seems true regardless of whether or not I include the style in the head of the master page or in an external file in default theme as specified in the web.config file. If I specify the styles in the asp.net xml like so: <asp:Menu ID="navMenu" Orientation="Horizontal" runat="server"> <StaticSelectedStyle BackColor="Green" Font-Underline="True" Font-Bold="True" /> <StaticHoverStyle BackColor="Gray" /> </asp:Menu> It appears to work properly in Firefox, but the style is never embedded in the html in Internet Explorer. Odd. Does anybody have any insight into what is causing this problem and how to neatly work around it? I'm aware I might be able to programmically determine the current page and select the corresponding menu item manually so it receives the proper style class, but before I resort to hacking C# and Javascript together to fix this functionality, I'm open to ideas.

  • Menu floating to the right on IE and to the left in FF

    - by the_drow
    I am working on a website that has a menu which behaves correctly on FF but not on IE (as usuall). On IE it floats to the right while it should float to the left, however if float is set to none it behaves almost correctly, attaching the onto the top of the container. Here's the css: #navigation_wrap { background: url(../images/ltr/nav_bg.png); height: 34px; width: 954px; } .btn_login { float: right; margin: 4px 4px 0 0; } .navigation { float: left; } .navigation ul { list-style: none; margin: 8px 0 0 15px; } .navigation ul li { border-right: 1px solid white; float: left; padding: 0 12px 0 12px; } .navigation ul li.last { border: none; } .navigation ul li a { color: white; font-size: 14px; text-decoration: none; } .navigation ul li a:hover { text-decoration: underline; } .navigation ul li a.active { font-weight: bold; } And here's the html: <div id="navigation_wrap"> <div class="navigation"> <ul> <li><a class="active" href="default.asp">Home Page</a></li> <li><a class="" href="faq.asp">FAQ</a></li><li><a class="" href="articles.asp">Articles</a></li> <li><a class="" href="products.asp">Packages &amp; Pricing</a></li> <li><a class="" href="gp.asp?gpid=15">test1</a></li> <li><a class=" last" href="gp.asp?gpid=17">test asher</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="btn_login"> ... </div> </div> I hope anyone would have an idea.   • PDF Report generation

    - by IniTech
    EDIT : I completed this project using ABCpdf. For anyone interested, I love this product and their support is A+. Everything I listed as a 'Con' for the HTML - PDF solution was easily doable in ABCpdf. I've been charged with creating a data driven pdf report. After reviewing the plethora of options, I have narrowed it down to 2. I need you all to to help me decide, or offer alternatives I haven't considered. Here are the requirements: 100% Data driven Eventually PDF (a stop in HTML is fine, so long as it is converted) Can be run with multiple sets of data (the layout is always the same, the data is variable) Contains normal analysis-style copy (saved in DB with html markup) Contains tables (data for tables is generated at run-time) Header/Page # on each page Table of Contents .NET (VB or C#) Done quickly Now, because of the fact that the report is going to be generated with multiple sets of data, I don't think a stamped pdf template will work since I won't know how long or how many pages a certain piece of the report could require. So, I think my best options are: Programmatic creation using an iText-like solution. Generate in HTML and convert to PDF using a third-party application (ABCPdf is the tool I have played with so far) Both solutions have their pro's and con's. Programmatic solution: Pros: Flexible Easy page numbering/page header/table of contents Free Cons: Time consuming (to write a layer on top of iText to do what I need and keep maintainable) Since the copy is already stored in the db with html markup, I would have to parse through the data before I place it into the pdf, ensuring I don't have to break the paragraph into chunks so I can apply bold, italic, underline, etc. to specific phrases. This seems like a huge PITA, and I hope I am wrong about that assumption. HTML - PDF Pros: Easy to generate from db (no parsing necessary) Many tools for conversion Uses technology I am already familiar with Built-in "Print Preview" - not a req, but nice Cons: (Edited after project completion. All of my assumptions were incorrect and ABCpdf is awesome) 1. Almost impossible to generate page headers - Not True 2. Very difficult to generate page numbers Not True 3. Nearly impossible to generate table of contents Not True 4. (Cross-browser support isn't a con; Since its internal, I can dictate what browser to use) 5. Conversion tool quirks - may not convert exactly as rendered in browser Not True 6. Overall, I think it would be very hard to format the HTML exactly as I would want it to appear/convert to PDF. Not True That's it - I need the communitys help in deciding which way I should go. I might be wrong about some of my Pro/Con assumptions. If I am, please tell me. All thoughts and suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks
