  • Optionally open folder in new window in vista using keyboard key

    In XP, to ensure a folder opened in a new window, I held down CTRL when I opened (by mouse or keyboard) the folder. This action is so ingrained to me, I pretty much don't even realise I'm doing it at a conscious level. Unfortunately, this action apparently hasn't made it to Vista. Is there a new way to do this, or am I just missing something obvious?

  • MS Vista taking too long to identify Wi-Fi connection [closed]

    I with few of my flat-mates share internet connection by using ASL cable into one laptop and then making Adhoc private network so that we all can enjoy internet connectivity. It all worked wonderful few initial days, but now my MS vista is taking much time to identify that adhoc network and it though I am connected to my friend, it takes 5-10 minutes untill I use internet.

  • Loosing network cached passwords after a restart on Vista

    The passwords cached for Network shares on other computers and applications like MSN Live, MS Outlook, Sharepoint portal, Outlook Webmail, etc are lost when I reboot my computer, which runs on Vista. I always check the Remember password checkbox in applications/login dialogs where ever prompted. I cannot imagine of a third party program that may clean up this on system restart/shutdown. Any idea, as to what is going wrong?

  • Preventing some apps from appearing on the start menu on vista

    Vista start menu shows your most frequently used apps, which is great, I love it. However, there are some apps which I use frequently through shell or such, that I do not want to appear on that menu. Winrar, Media Player Classic, Infranview... I can right click on it to remove it, but it'll return to the menu shortly, how can I set it so that those apps never appear on the start menu. Thanks.

    I can not access Contol panel in my windows vista machine. As soon as i click the "conrol panel" item in start items, it shows up a window and then its closed automatically ( same happens if i use "control" command). Is there some program or some registry entry thats restricting it? is ther a way to control this behaviour?

  • Image thumbnails flashes and then disappears in Windows Vista

    I have Windows Vista installed on my machine and I am facing this really annoying problem. Whenever I open a folder having images, image thumbnails appear for an instant and they are replaced by standard file icon. Argh... Points to note: Setting "Always show icon, never thumbnail" is unchecked Running Windows Aero theme (with transparency support) Have 4GB of RAM on my machine so memory is not a problem Please can you suggest a solution?

    I noticed everytime my dell inspiron 1420 wakes up from sleep the screen will flicker a lot. some times violently. I'm not sure what the problem is.     Am using ROXIO 1. to copy DVD file to my computer 2. to trim a section of the video 3. to convert the file to wmv and this is where Windows Vista gives the message that the program cannot continue. 4. I have followed all of the instructions from ROXIO support to clean my system and do a new install. It still does not work Anybody know how to resolve the problem?

    I burned a CD on XP using the built-in burning software and I can read the CD on that machine, but when I insert it into my Vista machine, I can't read the files. It shows the correct volume label, and the correct 'free space', but I can't access the actual files. Am I missing something obvious? (Both systems are fully up-to-date)

Internet Explorer could not connect to computername". Perhaps this is because the NTFS and/or IIS permissions are not set correctly. How do I set the permissions to publish a website on the intranet?     I am considering creating a Vista install, in VirtualBox, in a minimum configuration. The Microsoft pages seem consistent on the most important points: 1 GB of system memory 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum) In my experience sometimes these recommendations are accurate. (For example, I have a Windows XP in VirtualBox that generally behaves well running in the stated minimum). If anyone has some practical experience (especially the type that could save me hours of pain), please let me know.

    Hi, at my work computer, a Dell package computer with Vista Business, I turn it on, it shows the Dell boot screen then just hangs forever. Can get into the Bios and boot settings, but other than that, just hangs. What could cause this? No one's been here over the weekend and it was fine on friday. Thanks.
