When I look at the TTL (Time to Live) for PTR records (Reverse Lookup Zone) on one of our Windows 2003 DNS servers I see some are at 15 minutes, others are at 20. They have "Delete this record when it becomes stale" checked.
These PTR records are for workstations that get IPs from Windows DHCP, so I think that creates the PTR records dynamically?
How is TTL for these records set?
I have a picture in Powerpoint 2003, how do I change the picture without having to delete it and re-add it?
I need to save all the animations and it's going to take about 5 hours to re add them, but only like 20 mins if I change the pictures.
Or if there is anyway to copy a custom animation set to another picture that would also be ace
I work all day on a Windows Server 2003 machine and have noticed people "borrowing" my machine by using Remote Desktop to log in. This is pretty much "normal behaviour" at the company I work at, but I'd like to know when this is happening.
Is there any way I can be alerted each time someone remote desktop's onto my server? A simple "Bob has logged in" would be great - and I imagine there is a facility somewhere to enable this.
Hello. I have Microsoft Office 2003 installed, but no frontpage is installed. I don't know why not. It was an OEM installation.
Can anyone recommend an open source replacement?
Thanks.
hi,
this question is always rise.
How can i know what ports are currently reserved in windows XP/2003 and what service had reserved them.
for example when i want to install Apache, default port will be 80, but sometimes the Server will have IIS installed on the same port.
so i want to know the way to check the ports and what services had reserved them and also if there is a way to re assign those ports to different services.
thank you
Is there a way I can monitor the number of emails in the Internet SMTP Connector queue on Exchange 2003 using Nagios that are in a retry state?
Ideally, I would like to monitor ones that are in Retry and have Greater than X delivery failures.
I have a user that has rights to change permissions within a certain folder on a Windows Server 2003 network share. Although I grant this person the rights to change permission and ownership this person cannot change any permissions.
The network share is also set to allow everyone full control. (I understand it is bad practice yet this is how it was first configured)
Is there any reason why this domain user cannot modify permissions on the folder and files they create?
I have permission to attached a mailbox to my profile. This is a mailbox I share and manage with other people.
When we send from this address, we would like to have the message show up in this mailbox's sent items folder. The current behavior is that the message goes to our primary account's sent items.
I'm using Outlook 2007 but others are using Outlook 2003. This is in an Exchange 2007 environment.
Getting the following error on my SBS 2003 R2 Server:
Server ActiveSync:
Unexpected Exchange mailbox Server error: Server: [celeritympp.mpp1.local] User: [[email protected]] HTTP status code: [409]. Verify that the Exchange mailbox Server is working correctly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
Each time I reboot a Windows 2003 server, after Windows has restared I get message dialogs for all the application crashes that happened since the last reboot.
So after each reboot I have to click "Don't send" countless times, for crashes that happened weeks before.
How can the display of these error messages be stopped?
I'm connecting to the server through RDP, if that's relevant.
Here is a error message screenshot:

How can I list the PRIVILEGES for a user in Windows 2003 Server (SP2) ?
I know I can do something like this:
C:\ whoami /all
This only lists my current user. I need to specify a user and retrieve a list of privileges.
Hi everyone,
I am running a Windows Server 2003 OS and am noticing that no one is able to connect to the machine through Remote Desktop. I have gone through the Terminal Services Configuration to make sure that we had the RDP-Tcp connection enabled and I've checked to see that the server was listening to port 3389. Are there any other options since I've tried to ping into our host server with no results.
Thanks in advance.

If I created a custom form (including Script) in Outlook 2003, published it to the personal forms library, the only way I know to create a item out of this form is "File - New - Choose Form... - Personal Forms Library - Select my Form - Ok".
Is there a faster way? For example, a link from the desktop or from the Outlook favorites folder?
I am getting 403 Directory Listing Denied for the root and 404 for an action that I know should exist.
Background:
I have build and deployed an ASP.NET MVC 2 applcation a long time ago. Later I upgraded it to MVC 3 and it is still working with not configuration changes. Setting it up on a windows 2003 R2 (Standard) initialy was a pain, but after a couple of days(yes, days) struggling it started working.
Now I have to do the same with the same application on a different server (2003 R2 Standard again) on a different network.
.Net 4 is installed and allowed
ASP.NET MVC 3 is also installed
By default IIS is set to use .net 4
I verify aspnet_isapi.dll used in application extension are from
version 4.0.30319 .NET asemblies folder.
I also added the wildcard mapping to aspnet_isapi.dll and unchecked
verify file exists.
Under Directory Security in Authentication Methods I have disabled
anonymos access and enabled Integrated Windows authentication(same as
the one on the server that it works)
I have copied the same web.config with the
<authentication mode="Windows" />
<authorization>
<deny users="?" />
</authorization>
I have set Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, and Read for the
Networkservice account(under which the app pool is working). Also I
have set the same for Network account, IIS_WPG, ASPNET and
IUSR_MAchineName.
I do not have an EnableExte??nsionlessUrls but even if I create it
and set it to true or false it does not help.
I also tried
http://haacked.com/archive/2010/12/22/asp-net-mvc-3-extensionless-urls-on-iis-6.aspx
and it did not help.
But I kept getting 403 Directory Listing Denied for the root and 404 for an action that I know should exist.
Web Platform installer was then used to re-install and possibly update .net, asp.net etc. I then noticed IIS was reset to default. So I added the wildcard mapping again. No, luck still 403.
I exported configuration files from the working server setup and created new default app pool and new default website using those configurations.
Still I get 403 Directory Listing Denied for the / and 404 for any action I try.

I have a program installed that writes configurations to disk installed on Windows Server 2003. When two administrators log into the machine at the same time, the last admin to save will persist their configurations, while the first admin's saves will be lost.
Is there any way I can restrict access to a only this program so that only one person can edit it at a time? If not, is it possible to restrict user access to only one program?
