• How to copy a dynamic TrueCrypt volume quickly?

  I have created a dynamic TrueCrypt volume file, set it size to 40 GiB and put about 20 GiB of files on it. When I open the volume file properties it says "Size: 40.0 GB, Size on disk: 23.0 GB". When I try to move the volume file to another physical partition it takes a lot of time as it tries to copy all the 40 GB instead of just 20 GB that the volume file actually takes. Also, when it is less than 40 GB free on the target drive it says insufficient space even though it is more than enough space considering how much does the image file actually take. How do I overcome this? Creating a new volume file on the target drive works but needless to say I'd like a better solution.

  Hi, I'm working with Drupal for the first time and trying to figure out how to change the Menu item names through the Administer Site Building configuration menus. I have logged into the Drupal admin site and navigated to Administer/ Site Building/ Menus, select the menu item and click Edit, change the Title from , 'About' to 'About Us' however when loading the site page it still says 'About' Please pardon my lack of understanding on drupal, i am somewhat familiar with joomla another CMS however I just need some pointers in the right direction as to how to edit the links and rename them within drupal. the links are not images as far as i can tell while viewing the source and properties on the links. • Multicast accross the subnets

  My application sends some UDP packets on a multicast address. In our office we have 3 subnets connected via routers. Sitting in my subnet I'm able to ping the IP of the other subnet. Will multicast packets cross my subnet and reach the machines of other subnets? Or router will need some configuration? Or do I have to program a bridge for it? Please note that I do not know anything about Networking. Kindly tell me something that I can ask my network admin to do.

• Default virtual server does not work

  Hello, I have 4 Name Virtual Hosts on my apache configuration, each one using proxy_http to forward request to the correct server. They work fine. <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName application_name.domain.tld ProxyRequests Off ProxyPreserveHost On ProxyPass / http://server_ip/ ProxyPassReverse / http://server_ip/ </VirtualHost> I then tried to add a default NameVirtualHost to take care of the requests for which the server name does not match one of the four others. Otherwise a request like some_weird_styff.domain.tld would be forwarded to one of the 4 VH. I then added this one: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAlias "*" DocumentRoot /var/www/ </VirtualHost> At the beginning it seemed to work fine, but at some point it appears that the requests that should be handed by one of the 4 regular hosts is "eaten" by the default one !!! If I a2dissite this default host, everything is back to normal... I do not really understand this. If you have any clue... thanks a lot, Luc

• PERC 5/i Enable alarm on disks failures

  I'm trying to enable one the alarm of my server's raid controller PERC 5/i. Using this documentation, under the chapter Audible Alarm Warnings, it's explained that enabling an audible alarm is allowed in order to quickly spot failures on my hard disks. My trouble is that when entering the disk controller configuration (Ctrl+R at boot time), I'm able to set up lot of things but I cannot navigate to Enable Audible Alarm. I have : Enable Controller BIOS Enable Alarm Enable BIOS stop on Error I can navigate with my arrow keys to both the first and third items, but I cannot navigate to or select the second! It's not greyed out, and seems like I should be able to select go on this entry, but my cursor keep skipping it. Any ideas about what I'm missing here?

  Im in the process of setting up a new database server. I have been running a few mysql database servers before and it has been working okay. But i would like to hear the recommended setup for my server. For example, what should i set the max connection, query_cache_size, table_cache and so on. I have arround 4-600 per second: Open tables: 112 Queries per second avg: 430.386. The server i am setting it up on have the following configuration: Linux version 2.6.32-5-amd64 (Debian 2.6.32-41squeeze2) 2x Intel Xeon X3440 @ 2.53GHz 4GB Ram /, /boot, /tmp etc on Software RAID1, 2x 7200RPM SATA Data location on Software RAID0, 2x7200RPM SATA Im am going to place the mysql databases on the RAID0.   I have installed MySql 5.5 server under windows 2008r2 x64 Apparently I can see that MySql service stops even if is configured to start automatically What can I do to find out why this is happening? MySql database is used as backend of ASP.Net web site Is it possible that web site was not active for a while and system stop mysql service? Update: It was mysql-5.5.7-rc-winx64. I could be an issue with this version (release candidate). Now I am trying to install mysql-5.5.8-winx64 And I have an issue with configuring MySql to work using name pipes I did uncheck use of TCP/IP protocol and configuration wizard just hangs Update: I have found workaround. Later I tried to create a partition using this free space using diskmanagement tool. It shows free space as unusabe space and the only one option available is to make it as a simple partition. Unfortunately I made it as simple partition and all my partitions converted to simple dynamic partition. Now after reboot the OS is not loading. I tried to reinstall the OS by formatting the C drive, but it doesn't work. Now I can't load the OS properly. How can I install Windows 7 on my system without losing my data on the other two drives?

• What is it that automatically checks config changes (such as those in /etc) into git?

  I remember reading on the ubuntu forums some time ago about a program to automatically check configuration changes into version control for you. It was (of course) not Ubuntu-specific. I'm pretty sure it used git, though it may have been svn, or perhaps even able to work with multiple different VCSs. My Googling has turned up nothing, and I'd rather not roll my own script if someone has already done this well. Of course I could just manually check things in, but there are reasons I'd like it done automatically. (I'm actually planning to use this for my LastSession.plist file for Safari, so when the #@$%^*&! thing crashes, and I don't restore everything, and then Leopard crashes, the fact that it has such lousy session management won't mean I lose the dozens of windows with dozens of tabs I had open.)

Detailed questions: Where are the entries from "Network connections" stored? File, registry? Is there a possibility to clone such entry between PCs? • Can you run a specific tomcat Web Application under another user?

  Hi, We're developing a web-app running under tomcat which relies on Java User preferences to store all kind of settings. That works great, but we've run into problem where we needed to set up another staging web-app which allows you to test settings before settings them live. The core of the problem lies in the fact that Java User preferences are the same for all web-app due to the fact that all of them run under the tomcat user (configurable). For legacy reasons I can not at the moment change my preferences structure, so I'm hoping for a solution on the the tomcat configuration side. Is it possible to designate a different user credentials for a specific web-app in tomcat? Thanks, Boaz

  Hi everybody, We need to update our webserver (PIII-700MHz and 512Mb RAM) and could not do that without reinstalling the whole system. However my choice to put Ubuntu 9.10 was probably not the best and the machine works very slow now. Actually, we need it just for simple LAPM configuration and we really want to use the old box for this purpose. It used to have old version of Linux Slackware in which I didn't manage to update PHP due to a very complicated non-standard setup. What would you recommend?

  I have two virtual machines in VirtualBox. I would like to do networking between them. For the moment I have the default configuration on both, but they seams to have the same IP-address 10.0.2.15. I would also like to be able to use Internet with both, and that is Possible now. By default the network-setting is NAT, but I seams like they cannot network internally since they have the same IP. But If I change to internal networking I guess that I cannot access Internet with the virtual machines. How can I set up networking between virtual guest AND have access to Internet on them?

Some notes: I prefer ubuntu but my linux can be a different distributions if needed. w I prefer final result (bootable dvd) be simple and easy to use as installing a linux(ubuntu). • Adding a second IP address for IIS - static vs dynamic A records

  I'm looking to add a second IP address to IIS so that I can run two sites with different SSL certificates. When I added one on my play box and ran ipconfig /registerdns both addresses were registered in DNS with the server's name. So, I deleted the A record for the new IP address and rebooted. That also registered both names. So, then I went into the network config for the adapter and, on the DNS tab, unchecked "Register this connection's addresses in DNS". I deleted the A record for the new IP address again and re-ran ipconfig /registerdns. This time, it deleted the A record for the old IP address and didn't created one for the new address. Neither of these is what I want: I want the main IP address to be registered and refreshed automatically as a dynamic DNS record and the second IP address to be registered and managed as a static address. Is there any way to achieve this?

  Hi I'm performance tuning a DB server its a Dell R710 there is a very significant I/O bottleneck. Unfortunately the server was purchased with the 6 x 3.5 inch sata configuration which doesn't give me the leeway I need to address the issue. Before going to DAS does anyone know if it is possible to purchase a replacement front drive enclosure ? I know the server is configurable with something like 12 or 16 2.5 inch drives and it appears to be modular ? I tired contacting dell but the offshore parts department reps are not very bright lol.   Adobe Help that came with Creative Suite 5 and/or Flash Builder Pro is constantly creating network traffic with an Adobe site, www.wip4.adobe.com In the Adobe Help application Preferences, I find that I can change the settings so that I must manually download updates, but apparently the application still likes to call home and chatter non-stop with www.wip4.adobe.com. I could use something like Little Snitch to block all this spyware-like behavior, but I'd really prefer to just change the application's behavior. Is there a hidden setting or configuration file to adjust this behavior to something more appropriate and polite?

• Remote desktop to multiple windows machines on a LAN with dynamic IP

  Is it possible to use remote desktop to connect to multiple computers inside a network that has a dynamic IP address? I use a netgear WPN824 router which has dyndns onboard - but I currently use No-IP to control a single computer that I use most frequently. Every so often I need to get onto a couple of other computers in the network, but don't know how to go about this without logging onto one computer, and then starting another RDC session from that machine. What I would like to be able to do is connect to my router, and be able to see a list of connected devices, and then choose which to remote desktop onto. - I appreciate this probably is not be possible, but any other suggestions are welcome!

  I purchased a new Mac mini server, since my old iMac, which was a server pretty much died. My problem is this. How do I change my internal IP address for my mac mini server to a static address, like 192.168.0.2? Before you guys harp on me, my old server was running Ubuntu Hardy and I only had to map the IP address in the router, which would automatically assign the reserved address through DHCP. Now, I know things are different between the two, but my problem is that the mac is not accepting the assigned IP address or the router just is not assigning. However, every time I have manually changed it on the Mac to an address of my choice, it takes the computer off the Internet. My router is a NetGear WTG624 v2, I believe. I need this to work, so I can utilize Dynamic DNS.

  Say I want to use a proxy auto-config file that is stored at C:\proxy.pac. To make Internet Explorer use this configuration I have to specify the pac-file in the LAN settings in the following way: file://C:/proxy.pac But Safari, that uses the same proxy settings, will ignore it in this case. To make Safari use the pac-file I have to reference it as file:///C:/proxy.pac (3 slashes at the beginning) which, according to Wikipedia is the correct format. But this way Internet Explorer will ignore it. Opera and Chrome, that also use the same proxy settings, are fine with both ways but is there another option that will work with Safari and Internet Explorer at the same time?
