  • How do I determine the linux server software/version and email server software/version running

    I just inherited this a single linux box running pop/smtp for a small office (25 users). I'm new to Linux. I think the box is running Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 as the server (this is bannered accross the screen occassionally) but not sure of the release/kernal/build etc. I need to be certain of both the server os and email linux versions in order to perform research, admin and support. Any help/pointers on how to do this is much appreciated.

  • Software to automate event notifications

    I maintain a small web site and people can send an email to request information about new events. I would like to automate the process of updating people about new events via email. Is there some easy existing software package to do this? Where I can configure events with a date/description/etc... and have mails get sent automatically? The alternative is to build a MySql database and have some python script in a cron job that does it. I'd like to know if this is a solved problem though. I'm running on a shared host (dreamhost if it matters)

  • OS X Leopard (10.5) Server -- Unwanted Emails

    Our OS X Leopard (10.5) server is sending out an email EVERY DAY for a Disk Full Notification on an external HDD we use for Time Machine backups (which manages it's own disk space, so the disk full notifications are useless). In the Server Admin app, under Settings Notifications, there's this: which is clearly disabled. The email header and message: http://pastebin.com/V5PZ3Phk I've been told to check the mail.log, but it's mostly empty (except for a few logs in 2011 saying "Postfix mail system is not running". I've also been told to check the crontabs, but I'm not sure how to do that on OS X (or any OS for that matter). Can someone explain how to do this? Also, if there's any other suggestions on places/things/etc to look at/for, my ears are all open!

  • Postfix does not get external emails

    Hi there. I have a small vserver(ubuntu), on which i want to run mailman and therefore have to configure postfix. I already configured postfix to send mail per relay over gmail (server-ext.). I also receive local emails (server-server), but i dont get emails from ext. (ext. - server). I have a domain routed to the vserver. But when i send an email from external (e.g. from gmail) to [email protected] i don't get it into the inbox. But there is also no error return message i get to my gmail account. What could be a possible problem? Do i have to configure email revieving from external somewhere? Thanks for any help.

  • Setting up a local mail server

    This is what I want and I am having issues finding a solution. I have a number of websites (around 5) each with an email account. I have a server at my office and I would like to centralize it. I have a workstation too. What I want to happen is for the server to receive all emails from all those websites (from the web servers) and then connect my workstation to my local server to grab the emails from there. As the server downloads the emails, I would like them to be stored. Also, if I connect another workstation, I want the 2 workstations to sync. So if an email is read on one, it shows up as read on the other. Ideas? I am able to virtualize a Linus environment if that helps.

  • MySQL Binary Storage using BLOB VS OS File System: large files, large quantities, large problems.

    Hi Guys, Versions I am running (basically latest of everything): PHP: 5.3.1 MySQL: 5.1.41 Apache: 2.2.14 OS: CentOS (latest) Here is the situation. I have thousands of very important documents, ranging from customer contracts to voice signatures (recordings of customer authorisation for contracts), with file types including, but not limited to jpg, gif, png, tiff, doc, docx, xls, wav, mp3, pdf, etc. All of these documents are currently stored on several servers including Windows 32 bit, CentOS and Mac, among others. Some files are also stored on employees desktop computers and laptops, and some are still hard copies stored in hundreds of boxes and filing cabinets. Now because customers or lawyers could demand evidence of contracts at any time, my company has to be able to search and locate the correct document(s) effectively, for this reason ALL of these files have to be digitised (if not already) and correlated into some sort of order for searching and accessing. As the programmer, I have created a full Customer Relations Management tool that the whole company uses. This includes Customer Profiles management, Order and job Tracking tools, Job/sale creation and management modules, etc, and at the moment any file that is needed at a customer profile level (drivers licence, credit authority, etc) or at a job/sale level (contracts, voice signatures, etc) can be uploaded to the server and sits in a parent/child hierarchy structure, just like Windows Explorer or any other typical file managment model. The structure appears as such: drivers_license |- DL_123.jpg voice_signatures |- VS_123.wav |- VS_4567.wav contracts So the files are uplaoded using PHP and Apache, and are stored in the file system of the OS. At the time of uploading, certain information about the file(s) is stored in a MySQL database. Some of the information stored is: TABLE: FileUploads FileID CustomerID (the customer id that the file belongs to, they all have this.) JobID/SaleID (the id of the job/sale associated, if any.) FileSize FileType UploadedDateTime UploadedBy FilePath (the directory path the file is stored in.) FileName (current file name of uploaded file, combination of CustomerID and JobID/SaleID if applicable.) FileDescription OriginalFileName (original name of the source file when uploaded, including extension.) So as you can see, the file is linked to the database by the File Name. When I want to provide a customers' files for download to a user all I have to do is "SELECT * FROM FileUploads WHERE CustomerID = 123 OR JobID = 2345;" and this will output all the file details I require, and with the FilePath and FileName I can provide the link for download. http... server / FilePath / FileName There are a number of problems with this method: Storing files in this "database unconcious" environment means data integrity is not kept. If a record is deleted, the file may not be deleted also, or vice versa. Files are strewn all over the place, different servers, computers, etc. The file name is the ONLY thing matching the binary to the database and customer profile and customer records. etc, etc. There are so many reasons, some of which are described here: http://www.dreamwerx.net/site/article01 . SO, after much research I have pretty much decided I am going to store ALL of these files in the database, as a BLOB or LONGBLOB, but there are still many considerations before I do this. I know that storing them in the database is a viable option, however there are a number of methods of storing them. I also know storing them is one thing; correlating and accessing them in a manageable way is another thing entirely. The article provided at this link: dreamwerx.net/site/article01 describes a way of splitting the uploaded binary files into 64kb chunks and storing each chunk with the FileID, and then streaming the actual binary file to the client using headers. This is a really cool idea since it alleviates preassure on the servers memory; instead of loading an entire 100mb file into the RAM and then sending it to the client, it is doing it 64kb at a time. I have tried this (and updated his scripts) and this is totally successful, in a very small frame of testing. So if you are in agreeance that this method is a viable, stable and robust long-term option to store moderately large files (1kb to couple hundred megs), and large quantities of these files, let me know what other considerations or ideas you have. Also, I am considering getting a current "File Management" PHP script that gives an interface for managing files stored in the File System and converting it to manage files stored in the database. If there is already any software out there that does this, please let me know. I guess there are many questions I could ask, and all the information is up there ^^ so please, discuss all aspects of this and we can pass ideas back and forth and teach each other.   • EMail Signing (Outlook) Using Smartcard Minidriver [Windows]

    Hi I'm developing a Smart card Minidriver and I'm trying to Sign an Email using Outlook 2007. I have implemented all of the necessary functions in the minidriver. I'm able to create a "Smartcard User" certificate and save it and it's private key on the smartcard (using Microsoft Certificate Services via the Minidriver). When I try to sign an EMail via Outlook I'm getting Error Message (Internal Error), the last call to the minidriver is for ReadFile with "cmapfile" When I try to sign an EMail via Outlook with a difference non-smartcard certificate it's work fine. When I try to sign a Data using CryptoAPI (based on Windows SDK Sample) it's working fine. I'm using Windows 7. someone got any idea how to debug this issue? I tried to enable the CAPI2 eventlog, it don't give me any good information.

    I'm currently learning about the Drupal email functions, such as drupal_mail and hook_mail, and hook_mail_alter, and I have a problem before me where I'll need to be able to queue emails for delayed delivery. For example, an event signup notification that needs to wait for an hour after the event was registered by a user. And that email has user specific data, so can't be just a generic template email... I'm using the MailQ module, mainly for it's logging capabilities, but I wonder if it (or something else) could be modified to add a configurable delay function? Any ideas?

    Not sure if this is even possible but I have been looking at using Regex to get an email address that is in Hex. Basically this is to build up some of my automated forensic tools but I am having problems on making a suitable Regex algorithm. Regex for email: /^([a-z0-9_.-]+)@([\da-z.-]+).([a-z.]{2,6})$/ Hex values: @ = 40 . = 2E .com = 636f6d _ = 5f A/a = 41/61 [1] Z/z = 5a/7a - = 2d This is what I have got at the moment (it only takes into account lower case and .com). But it doesn't work! Have I messed something simple up? "/^([61-7a]+)40([61-7a]+)23(636f6d)$/" [1] I know email can only be lower case but I need to take uppercase into account too.

    Hi, Hope someone may be able to help. What i am looking to do is create a small winform app in c# to read the content of a email from a pop account, and upload key values to a sql automatically. The email format is always the same for each email, eg, First name : Last name : Phone number : etc... Currently the emails are being stored in a pop 3 account however i want a way to reduce having to key the information into the sql by hand. Can anyone advise how i would go about doing this or could recommend some guides? Thanks. Steve

  • iPhone not returning to application after calling eMail send

    I am sending an email from within my iPhone application. The eMail page pops up ok, I click on the Send button, the iPhone plays a whoosh sound, and the eMail actually arrives at the recipient. Unfortunately, the mail dialog still sits there unresponsive, and the only option - to click the home button - kills the app. Is there something else that needs to be specified to close the eMailMessage view?   • Removing the email validation requirement - Login Toboggan

    I'm building a premium membership site where a visitor can purchase a role and gain access to the privileged content using ubercart. I've got all that working fine, but the last tiny snag that my client wants to remove is to remove the validation email requirement that's fired when someone signs up on the site in Login Toboggan (6.1.9). I've got nothing set that is forcing this extra step and I've come to believe that this may be a feature in Drupal (acquia distro 6.22) core for any user that registers. I was hoping that this module (login toboggan) would eliminate that step but I've not as of yet been able to do so. I can allow the newly registered user access by setting that in the module, but the notification and validation email requirement still remains. Can anyone recommend a way around this? I just want them to be able to come to the site purchase their membership without any validation/confirmation email. Is this possible? Thanks - Rob

  • Ajax basic email code without reloading page

    I have in a previous Q found out that I need an ajax-function to send an email (submit a contact form) without reloading the page. This is for my classifieds website, where when users are viewing a classified they have the option to "tip a friend" by entering their friends email-adress and submitting the form. But I don't want to reload the page, that would be frustrating and not so clever. The only input in the form is a text input which will contain the email-adress to send to, and another hidden input which contains the classified_id nr, to identify which classified it is. The website is php based btw... Does anybody have a simple script for this? I have no experience in Ajax at all... And would really appreciate it. Thanks PS: Would prefer no Jquery, due to clients own reasons...

  • Can Gitosis enforce correct user name/email?

    Gitosis is able to authenticate users based on public/private key pair. It is able to find out which user is currently committing. However, the user name and email is taken from the client's Git configuration ('git config user.name' etc.), which can be set to arbitrary values. Is there any way to associate user names and emails with their public keys and then make Gitosis uses these names and emails as the name and email of the committer? I do not care if I will use Gitosis or WebDAV or some other alternative to share the repository. It just seems to me that none of the available methods supports this enforcement of using some kind of "correct" user name and email. If there exists some alternative, please tell me about it.

    HI. For a client i'm developing 4 different email agents for his web portal. I need to send a lot of emails to clients (couple of thousands in the future) which are stored in a database. Sending is fine, but I would like to work out a PHP script which sends emails, but also stores the previous email domain and if they equal than postpone that email for sending later to prevent spam filters. I'm going to load that script with cron and I already set_time_limit(0); Big thanks for replies with ideas ;)
