  • Automatically CONCATENATE text on data entry

    I am a newbie and need help. I have a table called "Employees". It has 2 fields [number] and [encode]. I want to automatically take whatever number is entered into [number] and store it in [encode] so that it is preceded by the appropriate amount of 0's to always make 12 digits. Example: user enters '123' into [number], '000000000123' is automatically stored in [encode] user enters '123456789' into [number], '000123456789' is automatically stored in [encode] I think i want to write a trigger to accomplish this. I think that would make it happen at the time of data entry. is that right? The main idea is would be something like this: variable1 = LENGTH [number] variable2 = REPEAT (0,12-variable1) variable3 = CONCATENATE (variable2, [number]) [encode] = variable3 I just don't know enough to make this happen ANY help would be FANTASTIC.     Hi, I have some hidden fields on my page, all of which work fine apart from one.   • Database indexes - what should they be

    Most of my database tables have a clear unique index through which lookups are done 90% of the time but I am a bit unsure on this one - I have a table which keeps track of user rating totals for items in my database, I now want to add another table, to track individual ratings with an ip address column to make sure no one can rate something twice. Since I can see this becoming a big, high use table it is important to optimize it correctly. (MYSQL table) This table will have the following fields: rating_id(always - unique), item_id (always - not unique), user_id (optional - not unique), ip_address (always - not unique), rating_value(always - not unique), has_review(bool) Now I envisions 90% the queries going something like this: When a user rates something - select where item_id = x and ip_address = y, (if rows = 0) insert rating When in user account pages - select where ip_address = x or username = y Now none of the fields searched on are unique, can I still use them as indexes (for example item _id and ip_address), can I have two indexes and will this still improve performance over a non indexed table?

  • Methodology for a Rails app

    I'm undertaking a rather large conversion from a legacy database-driven Windows app to a Rails app. Because of the large number of forms and database tables involved, I want to make sure I've got the right methodology before getting too far. My chief concern is minimizing the amount of code I have to write. There are many models that interact together, and I want to make sure I'm using them correctly. Here's a simplified set of models: class Patient < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :PatientAddresses has_many :PatientFileStatuses end class PatientAddress < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :Patient end class PatientFileStatus < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :Patient end The controller determines if there's a Patient selected; everything else is based on that. In the view, I will be needing data from each of these models. But it seems like I have to write an instance variable in my controller for every attribute that I want to use. So I start writing code like this: @patient = Patient.find(session[:patient]) @patient_addresses = @patient.PatientAddresses @patient_file_statuses = @patient.PatientFileStatuses @enrollment_received_when = @patient_file_statuses[0].EnrollmentReceivedWhen @consent_received = @patient_file_statuses[0].ConsentReceived @consent_received_when = @patient_file_statuses[0].ConsentReceivedWhen The first three lines grab the Patient model and its relations. The next three lines are examples of my providing values to the view from one of those relations. The view has a combination of text fields and select fields to show the data above. For example: <%= select("patientfilestatus", "ConsentReceived", {"val1"="val1", "val2"="val2", "Written"="Written"}, :include_blank=true )% <%= calendar_date_select_tag "patient_file_statuses[EnrollmentReceivedWhen]", @enrollment_complete_when, :popup=:force % (BTW, the select tag isn't really working; I think I have to use collection_select?) My questions are: Do I have to manually declare the value of every instance variable in the controller, or can/should I do it within the view? What is the proper technique for displaying a select tag for data that's not the primary model? When I go to save changes to this form, will I have to manually pick out the attributes for each model and save them individually?   • Is there a version of postActionEvent for KeyEvent (specifically for a JTextArea)?

    I'm writing a program that contains multiple JTextFields and 2 JTextAreas within an input panel. I have a submit button on the bottom. I have it set up so when a user types something into each field (including the JTextAreas) and hits the Enter key, it updates a text file, and when they press the submit button it updates the file then outputs a new version of it in the local directory. If the user presses Enter in any of the fields, it validates their input, however, I want to re-validate all fields when they press the submit button. Each field (again, JTextAreas included) has it's own validation check within its ActionListener or KeyListener (for the JTextAreas). It's easy enough to use postActionEvent() for the JTextFields, but is there a similar method for the JTextAreas to force fire a KeyEvent? I don't want to duplicate code and consume memory by re-writing the validation for those 2 Components inside the ActionEvent for the JButton. Unfortunately, I can't provide a sample because I'm writing the program on a classified machine (PC).

  • Can I make PDOStatement->fetchObject not use non-member variables?

    Lets say I have a class like this: Class User { var $id var $name; } And I run a query using PDO in php like so: $stm = $db->prepare('select * from users where id = :id'); $r = $stm->execute(array(':id' => $id)); $user = $r->fetchObject('User'); If I vardump my user object it has all kinds of other fields in it that I have not defined in the User class. Obviously I could make my query specific so that it only gives me back the fields I need/want. But if I don't want to do that is there any way to make this work the way I want it to? I like the idea of fetchObject, because it's one line of code to create this object and set member variables for me. I just don't want it to set variables I haven't defined in my class.

    I am using mvc to create forms that are generated at runtime. For validation, I am trying my hand at the jquery validation library which is very convenient to use. I have the validation expression of each field in the cdata attribute of the tag <input type="text" name="xyz" id="xyz" class="defaultTextBox" cdata="{validate:{required:true, decimal:true, messages: {required:'Please enter an decimal value', decimal:'Please enter a valid decimal'}}}"> This works beautifully. Now one more requirement I have is that some fields are being shown and hidden according to the logic on the page and I need to disable the validation on the hidden fields such that they do not interfere with the form submission. Just toggling the required:true to false and back to true should be enough. Only i do not know how. Anyone has any experience with that?

  • Drag N Drop utilizing simple cursor

    I'm using CommonsGuy's drag n drop example and I am basically trying to integrate it with the Android notepad example. Drag N Drop Out of the 2 different drag n drop examples i've seen they have all used a static string array where as i'm getting a list from a database and using simple cursor adapter. So my question is how to get the results from simple cursor adapter into a string array, but still have it return the row id when the list item is clicked so I can pass it to the new activity that edits the note. There is a screencast on auto-completion with Prototype library by Ryan Bates ( http://railscasts.com/episodes/102-auto-complete-association). On the other hand, I have noticed that quite many guys suggest jQuery for this task ( http://jquery.bassistance.de/autocomplete/demo/). And I guess, there was probably some development last year(s), so I ask you - what would you use nowadays to auto-complete your form fields and why?     I am trying to access the "MYSQL" database tables to create a GUI for adding users and privileges. Doing this, I have run into my first NHibernate problem. How do i map MySQL Enum's to a C# Boolean? Or if not possible then to at least a Enum? The database fields are delcared as enum('N', 'Y') These are all of the privilege fields in the database.   • Gson serialization depending on field value

    I have a POJO that is similar to: public class MyGsonPojo { @Expose @SerializedName("value1") private String valueOne; @Expose @SerializedName("value2") private boolean valueTwo; @Expose @SerializedName("value3") private int valueThree; // Getters and other stuff here } The issue is that this object has to be serialized into a json body for a call to the server. Some fields are optional for the request and if I even send it with default and null values, the API responds differently (Unfortunately changing the api is not an option). So basically I need to exclude fields from serialization if any of them is set to a default value. For example if the field valueOne is null the resulting json should be: { "value2" : true, "value3" : 2 } Any idea how to make this a painless effort? I wouldn't want to build the json body manually. Any help would be great. Thank you in advice.

    I had created a new table named USERLOG with two fields from a previous VIEW. The table already consist of about 9000 records. The two fields taken from the VIEW, i.e. weblog_views consist of IP (consists of IP address), and WEB_LINK (consists of URL). This is the code I used, CREATE TABLE USERLOG AS SELECT C_IP, WEB_LINK FROM weblog_views; I want to add another column to this table called the USER_ID, which would consists of a sequence starting with 1 to 9000 records to create a unique id for each existing rows. I need help with this part. I'm using Oracle SQL Developer: ODMiner version 3.0.04. I tried using the AUTO-INCREMENT option, ALTER TABLE USERLOG ADD USER_ID INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT; But I get an error with this, Error report: SQL Error: ORA-01735: invalid ALTER TABLE option 01735. 00000 - "invalid ALTER TABLE option" So, I would really appreciate any help that I can get!

  • Remove specific definitions from a variable in PHP

    Hi everyone, I have a PHP mail script that validates name, email address, and phone number before sending the mail. This then means that the Name, Email address, and Phone fields are Required Fields. I want to have it so that the Name and EITHER Email or Phone are required. Such that if a name and phone are inputted, it sends the mail, or if a name and an email are inputted, it also sends the email. The way the script works right now is it has several IF statements that check for (1) name, (2) email and (3) phone. Here's an example of an if statement of the code: if ( ($email == "") ) { $errors .= $emailError; // no email address entered $email_error = true; } if ( !(preg_match($match,$email)) ) { $errors .= $invalidEmailError; // checks validity of email $email_error = true; } And here's how it sends the mail: if ( !($errors) ) { mail ($to, $subject, $message, $headers); echo "<p id='correct'>"; echo "?????? ????? ??????!"; echo "</p>"; } else { if (($email_error == true)) { $errors != $phoneError; /*echo "<p id='errors'>"; echo $errors; echo "</p>";*/ } if (($phone_error == true)) { $errors != $emailError; $errors != $invalidEmailError; /*echo "<p id='errors'>"; echo $errors; echo "</p>";*/ } echo "<p id='errors'>"; echo $errors; echo "</p>"; } This doesn't work though. Basically this is what I want to do: If no email address was entered or if it was entered incorrectly, set a variable called $email_error to be true. Then check for that variable, and if it's true, then remove the $phoneError part of the $errors variable. Man I hope I'm making some sense here. Does anyone know why this doesn't work? ArrayList<Class> typeList; and I have some input values; ArrayList<Object> values; How to cast some value to some type if I know which type from the typeList is the values; typeList.get(i).cast(values.get(i)); <- this is not working??? Actualy I generate dynamic form in runtime. With Java reflection I get parameterTypes from methods from some class, I generate form with input fields and then i want to cast the text from the input fields to specific types from the paramterTypes that I got with Java reflection from some class.

  • Database design: How should I add an information which can apply to several tables

    I am constructing a database System using Mysql, this will be an application of about 20 tables. The system contains information on farmers, we work with organic certification and need to record a lot of info for that. In my system, there are related parent-child tables for farmers, producing years and fields/areas - it's a simple representation of the real world in which farmers farm crops on their fields. I now need to add several status flags for each one of these levels: a farmer can be certified, or his field can be, or the specific year can be; each of these flags has several states and can occur a number of times. The obvious solution to this would be to add a child table to every one of these tables, and define the states there. What I wonder if there is an easier way to do this to avoid getting to many tables? Where/how would be best practise to keep that data?
