  • Using jep.invoke() method

    Hi, I need to call a function from a python script and pass in parameters into it. I have a test python script which I can call and run from java using Jepp - this then adds the person. Eg Test.py import Finding from Finding import * f = Finding() f.addFinding("John", "Doe", 27) Within my Finding class I have addFinding(firstname, lastName, age) However, I wish to be able to do this from within java. Should I be using the jep.invoke() method. Does anyone have a hello world example of such a thing being done or forward me to some good examples? Does anyone have any suggestions please?   • When exactly does a method have side effects?

    As I always understood it, any change to the programs state (or anything to do with IO) is a side effect. It does not matter, whether the change occurs in a global variable or in a private field of the object the method is called on. It follows that all methods which do not return anything either do nothing at all or have a side effect. My confusion comes from one of our university's instructors (who is still a student and thus not omniscient yet;) ) telling me setters don't have side effects.

How can i fix this issue, Please anyone help me!!!!

    I have illustrated my question in this example class Car { public void start(){ System.out.println("Car Started!!!"); } } class Mercedes extends Car { public void start(){ System.out.println("Mercedes Started!!!"); } } Now, in my main program, I write Mercedes m = new Mercedes(); m.start(); It prints: Mercedes Started!!! How do I call the start() method of Car class using the same object so that the output can be Car Started!!!. Edit: Actually It was asked in an interview I attended. I gave the super keyword answer. But the interviewer denied it. He said he'd give me a hint and said Virtual Function. I have no idea how to use that hint.

    How do I create a method to return the results of a group by in LINQ to sql such as the one below: internal SomeTypeIDontKnow GetDivisionsList(string year) { var divisions = from p in db.cm_SDPs where p.acad_period == year group p by new { p.Division } into g select new { g.Key.Division }; return divisions; } I can't seem to define a correct return type. I think it is because it's an anonymous type but haven't got my head around it yet. Do I need to convert it to a list or something? The results would just be used for filling a combo box.

    I have this method (simplified): void DoSomething(IEnumerable<int> numbers); And I invoke it like this: DoSomething(condition==true?results:new List<int>()); The variable results is formed with a LINQ select condition (IEnumerable). I was wondering is this List<int>() the best way (the fastest?) to pass an empty collection, or is new int[0] better? Or, something else would be faster, a Collection, etc.? In my example null wouldn't be ok.

    Hi there, I would like to know some opinions from experienced developers on what they think the definitive way to size fonts (in a base sense). I know that working with ems is considered best but im referring to the best way to set the base font size. There is the technique of setting font to 10px using 62.5 method but i think ie has an issue with rounding which throws this out slightly (perhaps not) YUI framework uses body { font:13px/1.231 arial,helvetica,clean,sans-serif; /* for IE6/7 */ *font-size:small; /* for IE Quirks Mode */ *font:x-small; } which really confuses me! Tripoli uses html { font-size:125%; } body { font-size:50%; } a list apart suggest something along the lines of : body { font-size: 16px; *font-size: 100%; } So which is the best either out of these methods or any alternatives. The best being the easiest to work with and the most reliable cross browser.

  • Stored procedure call in method with OperationBehavior attribute: problems with transactions

    I'm using ADO.Net's ExecuteNonQuery to call a stored procedure, works like a charm stand-alone but when implementing it where it should be called I'm running into problems concerning transactions. For example System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates a mismatching number of BEGIN and COMMIT statements. Previous count = 1, current count = 0. and also a timeout right after that. I've just found out the method which calls the stored procedure is marked with the following WCF attribute: [OperationBehavior(TransactionScopeRequired = true, TransactionAutoComplete = true)] How will this influence the call my stored procedure? How can I tell .Net to execute the stored procedure outside this transaction? The stored procedure contains insert statements and also a transaction, but removing them doesn't change the behavior...

While I'm sure this is documented somewhere, I don't know what term to use in searching for an explanation of what's being done here. I like the syntax methods like this let me use when calling them, but I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing, what the implications are, how to send parameters to these types of functions, etc? To clarify how I ended up in this position, I started using these methods in a "utilities" class of mine after reading some online blog describing the author's preference for declaring these functions this way. Now I can't seem to track down a more detailed explanation of what exactly the differences are, etc.

  • jquery split() and indexOf results in "Object doesn't support this property or method"

    I have the following code: var selected = $('#hiddenField').val().split(","); ... if (selected.indexOf(id) > 0) { ... set value ... } I'm dynamically creating a CheckBoxList, and trying to remember the state of the checkboxes by putting the selected IDs into the hidden field. I get an error stating that "Object doesn't support this property or method". My assumption is that selected is an array, which should support indexOf. Is that incorrect?

  • Disable link with the prototype observe method...

    I want to create a link like this: <a href="http://example.com">text</a> and replace the behavior so that the link downloads the content with Ajax instead when clicking. It is important for me not to replace the href attribute (so copying the link still works). One solution would be to do: $('link').onclick = function() { return false; }; but I would like to use the .observe method. But this doesn't work: $('link').observe('click', function() { return false; }); (which is quite logical). Any ideas on how I could achieve this? Thanks.

  • Android: chronometer widget and layout() method could not work well at the same time

    I write a test android app, in which there are only two views, a chronometer and a imageview. Using the layout() method of the imageview to dynamically change the position of it, I wish to implement drag-and-drop effect. It does work. However, each time the chronometer ticks, the imageview is always reverted to its original position, which seems that the whole screen is reloaded from the layout xml. So, does anybody know how to prevent the imageview from reverting to the original place, and let chronometer and drag-and-drop effect coexist? Thx

As a result, constructor code often looks like this public MyModelClass(String arg1, String arg2, OtherModelClass otherModelInstance) { if(arg1 == null) { throw new IllegalArgumentsException("arg1 must not be null"); } // further validation of constraints... // actual constructor code... } Is there a way to do that with an annotation driven approach? Something like: public MyModelClass(@NotNull(raise=IllegalArgumentException.class, message="arg1 must not be null") String arg1, @NotNull(raise=IllegalArgumentException.class) String arg2, OtherModelClass otherModelInstance) { // actual constructor code... } In my eyes this would make the actual code a lot more readable.     I am building a whiteboard, which would have a server(teacher) and clients(students). Teacher would draw something on his side, which will be shown exactly same to the students. I want to know which component i should use to do the drawing? i am currently drawing on JPanel . I want the screen of Server gets copied on the clients, so for that what could be the right method to do this? option1: i save the JPanel as image, and send thru socket, and loads it on the screen of client, also it always saves the background image only, not what the user has drawn onto it. OR option2: both server and client JPanel dimensions are same, so i just send the new coordinates drawn everytime thru socket, with some protocol to understand whether it is rubber or pencil.. Any help would be appreciated.

    As im reading through 3 books about GC , ive notice some strange fact : C# via CLR CriticalFinalizerObject : the CLR treats this class and classes derived from it in a very special manner what ??? "not find enough memory to COMPILE a method? " IMHO - the code should be already compiled... no ? when Im writing c# code - the whole code is compiled to IL before its running... no? but according to the text - at RUNTIME - he MAY find insufficient memory for compile... Help ?
