  How do I achieve this:- When user types character like 'abcd' and then '>'(an invalid character for my application), I want to set the text back to 'abcd'. Better if we can cancel the input itself as we do in winforms application. This should happen when user is typing and not on a click of button. I want this to be applied on all text boxes in my web page. This will be easy if the solution is jQuery based. May be something which will start like this. $("input[type='text']")

  I have a question about inserting values into an input field from my MYSQL DB. First I have a form to save data from an inputfield to the database. An extra script filters diacrits Á=&Aacute; to html code. So Állo will be saved like &Aacute;llo When I insert the data from the DB to a 'div' it shows Állo. When I insert the data into a input field it shows &Aacute;llo What am I doing wrong I use JQUERY to save data to the DB with the $.post method without pagerefresh. I also get the data from the DB with JQUERY $.post method without pagerefresh. Hope somebody can help.

  Hi, I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle a dropdown list where one of the options "other" shows a hidden text field (via jQuery), where the user can then enter text. Should both the dropdown and the input field be given the same "name" attribute, then server side code runs a check on the values of each in order to know what one is the active value - e.g if the value of the select box is "other", then check the value of the text input field - if this isn't the default value ("enter text"), then it's ok to use this value and save it to the database. Is this a messy approach to this problem?

  Hi, This seems a known problem but I have not found a good workaround. I like the style of the non-native QFileDialog, especially the feature that allows the user to input the path directly which is very convenient since the user can easily copy/paste the folder/file name from other applications. However, it seems very slow when the dialog is first launched. The native option is quite responsive but the problem is that it does not provide an input field so for the user to select a folder he/she has to walk into the directory, which can take many mouse clicks and is not fun. I am not sure if you have experienced similar problem or if I miss something. BTW, my PyQt version is 4.4.3 and I am working on Windows XP. Thanks, Bing

  I found some helpful stuff on this site but my input file is different from the examples already posted and I cannot make the leap in an efficient manner. My input file looks like this: sample_dude data1 data2 data3 data4 sample_lady data5 data6 data7 data8 sample_dude data9 data10 data11 data12 sample_child data13 data14 data15 data16 I want to create a separate file for each sample with all the data columns. For example, one file would be called sample_dude.txt and look like this: data1 data2 data3 data4 data9 data10 data11 data12 There is an unknown number of samples but always just four data columns. • Integrated webcam in lenovo t410 not working with 12.04

  I have a Lenovo T410 with an inbuilt webcam and I haven't been able to get the webcam working. I tried skype, cheese, both just give me a black window. The microphone works fine with skype, by the way. Can anyone provide any clues please? The webcam is enabled in the bios, but there is no light indicating the webcam is on (not sure if there should be, though). I tried this on Kubuntu 11.10 and have upgraded to 12.04 with the same results. The Fn-F6 keyboard combination doens't seem to do anything either. EDIT: I got the webcam replaced, it looks like it was a hardware problem, because it works fine now.   Okay this is my problem. Virtual XP through VMWare Player sees my device, knows it needs a driver. The removable devices says Curitel Pantech USB Device (Maybe Driver). I have PC Suite installed in XP, I install the driver through the executable.. it says problem with installing hardware, and then it disappears. Ubuntu sees it after restart, but if I start XP with that driver installed, it disappears from both and I get these errors in dmesg: [ 1047.760555] /dev/vmmon[2882]: PTSC: initialized at 3093322000 Hz using TSC, TSCs are synchronized. No idea how to fix this.. would prefer to not have to go to another computer. I'm not trying to do anything but get the pictures off of it. I have to restart ubuntu, plug in device, for ubuntu to see it correctly again. I am like a month and a half old linux newbie so I have no idea the commands I could use for this, and I don't have a memory card in the phone to mount.

• s3fs Input/output error

  i'm trying to set up a backup system with s3fs and the amazon s3 service. i followed this 2 guides: http://qugstart.com/blog/linux/how-to-mount-an-amazon-s3-bucket-as-virtual-drive-on-centos-5-2/ http://blog.eberly.org/2008/10/27/how-i-automated-my-backups-to-amazon-s3-using-rsync/ anyway making a tail to the /var/log/messages i get: Aug 28 13:37:46 server s3fs:###response=403 i already tried creating the authentication file on /etc/passwd-s3fs and setting there the access and private key, passing it trough the command line, i checked several times the credentials and i used it with s3fox, and is working. i also have set the time of the machine (with the date command) to be the same as the amazon S3 servers (i got the time of the S3 server uploading a file with the file manager) not only rsync don't work, commands like ls or cp in the /mnt/s3 didn't work also. any help of how i can solve/debug this? • setting up synergy (multi-computer shared input devices) new to mac

  I've just gotten a mac and the first thing I'm trying to do in setting it up for dev is to set-up synergy. I've run into countless issues, and am making progress, but that 'mac's just work' theory is getting tired really fast. I'd prefer running the mac as the server, as it's a desktop. why use my pc(laptop) as the server. So i downloaded synergy, and tried to edit the 'synergy.conf' file. First with textmate, then with apple script. Neither of these applications will open the file. Even after changing textmate to use plain text format and switching off a few other things to make it into a plain text editor. No good. Uh, isn't that what these script/text editors are for? Then I found SyneryKM which is a package to run synergy on osx. Took LOTS of fiddling, but I think I finally kinda got it figured out. I've got my pc & mac both running synergy. However, my pc will only connect to synergy using the ip address. No problem, however, my mac won't connect to itself as a synergy server using the IP address. If I use the ip address as a screen in the 'server configuration file', i get a 'Error: unknown screen name mymac'. I know this shouldn't be super complicated, and possibly not the place to find answers about synergy, but I couldn't find a better place, and there has been some talk of synergy here. Any chance somebody can help with this?

• Is it possible to stream input into RAR

  I'm using RARLABS RAR.exe to archive/backup my server data. I am familiar with using RAR for creating an archive and adding files from a folder, but what about streaming data directly into an archive? For example, when backing up my MySQL databases I use the mysqldump command that includes a pipe command into a text file. It would be nice to skip the file step and go directly into an archive file using something like the following syntax: mysqldump -uUserName -pPassword --all-databases > rar.exe newarchivename.rar Does anyone know if what I have described, or something similar, is even possible?
