    For example I have: create table a (i int); Assume there are 10k rows. I want to count 0's in the last 20 rows. Something like: select count(*) from (select i from a limit 20) where i = 0; Is that possible to make it more efficient? Like a single SQL statement or something? PS. DB is SQLite3 if that matters at all...

    I have some files with same name but with different dates. Basically we are finding the files with most recent dates The file patterns are <FileNames><YYYYMMDD><FileExtension> e.g. test_20100506.xls indicates <FileNames> = test_ <YYYYMMDD> = 20100506 <FileExtension> = .xls Now in the source folder, the files are standardization_20100503.xls, standardization_20100504.xls, standardization_20100305.xls, replacement_20100505.xls As can be seen that, standardization_.xls are 3 in numbers but replacement_.xls is only 1. The output will be a list of file names whose content will be standardization_20100504.xls and replacement_20100505.xls Because among all the standardization_.xls is the most recent one and replacement_.xls is also the same. I have tried with my own logic but somehow failed.     Here's an interesting one for you folks... I have a HABTM (has_and_belongs_to_many) relationship between "Dogs" and "Trips". My goal is to find two result sets: 1) Dogs that have been on at least 1 of the last 3 trips and call that @dogs_current 2) Dogs that have NOT been on any of the last 3 trips and call that @dogs_old I found that I can find what the last 3 trips are by doing this in the Trip model: named_scope :last3, :order => 'date DESC', :limit => 3 But not sure how to use that list get 1 and 2. This hack works, but it seems ugly. There must be a better way! :) @dogs_current = [] @dogs_old = [] @dogs.each do |dog| if (Trip.last3 - dog.trips).size < 3 then @dogs_current << dog else @dogs_old << dog end end Any ideas?     Hello, I have a SQL Server 2008 database. This database has two tables called Customer and Order. These tables are defined as follows: Customer -------- ID, First Name, Last Name Order ----- ID, CustomerID, Date, Description I am trying to write a query that returns all of the customers in my database. If the user has placed at least one order, I want to return the information associated with the most recent order placed. Currently, I have the following: SELECT * FROM Customer c LEFT OUTER JOIN Order o ON c.[ID]=o.[CustomerID] As you can imagine, this will return all of the orders associated with a customer. In reality though, I only want the most recent one. How do I do this in SQL? Thank you!

  • How to link latest stable version of libCURL using vc++2010

    On 2 separate machines in completely different environments (work, home) I've been unable to compile libCURL out of the box. Running nmake -f Makefile.vc mode=dll VC=10, I get an unresolved external symbol errors for _IdnToAscii and _IdnToUnicode. I believe the definitions are in Normaliz.lib, which is referenced in LFLAGS, but it either isn't finding it or the version I have doesn't have those functions. But I don't see any option to download this file...anyone have a good solution short of commenting out the 2 lines that use these functions?

    Alas I find my self doing another book review... its not clear to me that I should continue to do that but on this particular book it heads in the right direction. As noted in an earlier post I find the idea of a cook book to be of particular interest and useful in my work with Silverlight. This book has gotten closer then any other to date in building the ideal Silverlight book.
