• Android: Custom Clock widget Service work-around?

  I was interested in developing a clock widget for the homescreen and upon reading Home Screen Widgets tutorial, is there a pre-existing Service I could reference for updating the current time rather than re-inventing the wheel? I have currently Retro Clock on my android phone and noticed that when I click it, it pops up the Alarm Clock settings, but with the default Google Analog Clock widget, upon click does nothing. Is that because the Retro Clock widget implements the Alarm Clock service? If so, how can I go about referencing that service? Or do I have this all wrong and misunderstood? Any help is appreciated. EDIT: I believe implementing the service to update the clock would drain the battery life tremendously, any ideas on a work around or help shed some light on any performance issues with using Service?

• Facebook like iframe ignores my specified href

  I have Javascript that imputes (computes and injects) HTML into my DOM for the Facebook "Like" function. I need to specify a "canonical" URL because the actual URL doesn't reflect all the DOM manipulations that have been made (driven by user activity on the Web "page"). Alas, Facebook's code doesn't use the url I supply but the window.location value (which has #hash aspects that influence the page's presentation, but that aren't accessible to the server). Anyway... why is FB's code ignoring the url I give to it? • Objective-C: Initializing char with char at index of string.

  unichar myChar = [myString characterAtIndex:0]; [myNSMutableArray addObject:myChar]; I am trying to insert the first char of a string into an array, to create an array of chars. the first line does not give me an error. The second line however, provides the following error: warning: passing argument 1 of 'addObject:' makes pointer from integer without a cast This also crashes the application with a "bad address" error. I thought this error was due to a problem with memory allocation. Can someone shed some light on this.

• Halting Django's dev server via page request?

  I'm looking at writing a portable, light-weight Python app. As the "GUI toolkit" I'm most familiar with — by a wide margin! — is HTML/CSS/JS, I thought to use Django as a framework for the project, using its built-in "development server" (manage.py runserver). I've been banging on a proof-of-concept for a couple hours and the only real problem I've encountered so far is shutting down the server once the user has finished using the app. Ideally, I'd like there to be a link on the app's pages which shuts down the server and closes the page, but nothing I see in the Django docs suggests this is possible. Can this be done? For that matter, is this a reasonable approach for writing a small, portable GUI tool?

• how to hightlight a div if the page.isvalid=false.

  I wanna high light particular div when the page.isvalid=false. on the pageload i am able to get display the error message. But the issue is that i am not able to highlight the control which is required. I have a js function which sets the error class to the div. Its working fine when i click on a button. I'd consider this thread a big success if I could shed some light on these questions: Do engineers at big companies use substantially different hardware than engineers at start-ups companies? Does a fresh developer recruit at Google get substantially different hardware from someone in the same position at Microsoft or Yahoo!? Do programmers in more senior positions have more powerful hardware on their desks? Does anyone think faster hardware makes more efficient engineers?

• Neural Network Basics

  I'm a computer science student and for this years project, I need to create and apply a Genetic Algorithm to something. I think Neural Networks would be a good thing to apply it to, but I'm having trouble understanding them. I fully understand the concepts but none of the websites out there really explain the following which is blocking my understanding: How the decision is made for how many nodes there are. What the nodes actually represent and do. What part the weights and bias actually play in classification. Could someone please shed some light on this for me? • Jquery help for current time indication within a range

  I'm looking for a simple light-weight jquery plugin that'll help me show something like this in my website: Essentially, this is like a timeline. I know the start and end dates (in that, they don't change) and the position of today's date just gives an indication of how far along I am into a task I took up on Jun 1, 2012. That's all I need it for - a better visual indication of my current status. I've found a lot of jquery timeline plugins but they are too complex for what I'm trying to do. Any ideas or suggestions? I have many times read over the web (including StackOverflow) that STL is the best collections library that you can get in *any* language. (Sorry, I do not have any citations atm) However after studying some STL, I am really failing to see what makes STL so special. • VS 2008 and F# Feb CTP - Can't debug

  I have downloaded the VS2008 integrated shell, and the F# Feb CTP and I have the F# environment working just fine. The problem comes when I try to debug. Nothing happens at all. The output window says ------ Build started: Project: ConsoleApplication1, Configuration: Debug Any CPU ------ ========== Build: 1 succeeded or up-to-date, 0 failed, 0 skipped ========== and none of my breakpoints are hit. My "program" is as simple as can be #light open System printfn "Hello World" Console.ReadKey(true) with breakpoints on the printfn and Console lines. The things I've read seem to suggest that debugging would work with this setup, and there is a debugger folder under common7/packages with files in it. Thanks for any help. EDIT: I'm on Win7 64 bit

• Has Google introduced a system that allows multiple "keyword-only" domains per site?

  I've been told by a client that "a friend" told them that as of January 2010, Google allows multiple domain names that have keywords in them to be associated with a single site. To be honest this sounds rather April-foolish but I'm not sure when his "friend" told him so for the time being I have to take it at face value. I've heard nothing of this and have searched for such a thing this morning, to find nothing but warnings against this practice. Said client seems keen on buying up lots of domains today, so before he insists upon it I just want to be absolutely sure - has Google silently introduced such an allowance, or is there something else they introduced earlier this year that he could be getting confused with? • Execute a dll function in ASP.Net Bin not working, II7.

  I am developing a remote control application where a client (aspx page in a browser) can request a server to "launch a notepad" (for testing purpose, for real life, turning off a light bulb, etc). So I created a dll with a simple function for launching the notepad (on the server side) and dropped this dll in the root bin folder. It worked fine when the aspx page is running under ASP.NET development server (launched from Visual Studio). But when I tested the same aspx page under a FireFox browser, it did not work (launch the notepad) even though it did call for the same function (I stepped through in debugger). Is this a permission issue? How do I set this up in IIS manager, or even better in web.config? Please help.

• PHP Convert variable names to lowercase?

  I have an api listener script which takes in get parameters. But I seem to be having issues when users tend to pass mixed case variable names on the parameters. For example: http://mylistenerurl.com?paramName1=Hello&paramname2=World I need my listener to be flixible in such a way that the variable names will be interpreted case-insensitively or rather still all in lower case like after I process the query string on some function, they are all returned as lower-cased variables: extract(someFunction($_GET)); process($paramname1, $paramname2); Can anybody shed some light on this? *much appreciated. thanks!

• Android: How to fade out search / home / menu / back buttons?

  Hallo, I'm using my Android (Archos 43) only as an extended display in an industrial application. I just need a single programm to display data received and send user inputs by bluetooth. This little programm should start directly after booting and should disable (fade out) the android-buttons (search, home, menu and back). That's my plan. Here's my problem: I know, there are some applications which can fade out these search/home/menu/back-buttons (like DeskClock or some videoplayers). But how does it work? Just using android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Light.NoTitleBar.Fullscreen" only disables the titlebar, not the 4 android-buttons. Thanks, Dennis

• GetBytes Issue in Loading External Flash

  I'm trying to debug a gallery section within a site of mine. Currently the section display a number of thumbnails which visitor select one to view. Once selected, the main flash loads in an external swf. To make the process smoother, I have a preloader for this process using normal getbytes codes. However for some reasons, the flash works fine in IE but not in Firefox or Chrome. In these browsers, as soon as you click the thumbnail, the preloader animated away to reveal the holder of the external swf. However as it is still loading, the holder is a blank area. Would appreciate if anyone can shed some light on why this is so.

• Is it possible to run C++ binded with SDL+OpenGL code on a web browser?

  My client wants her website to have an application that renders 3D (light 3D stuff, we are drawing only flat squares in 3D world) but web programming is not my thing. So I am looking for something that can run a C++ program from a web browser. But I think, if this is the case, then the client side must download the program first, and that's not what I want. The client should only be able to use this application only on the website. I came across Google Native Client, which claims that it can run x86 native code in web applications. I haven't decide whether it is worth it or not and I don't know whether this is what I want or not, so I decided to ask experienced people about this. If I want to have something like this, is what I said above possible? Or I completely need other languages like Flex because it does not worth the trouble? Or is Google Native Client suitable for doing something like this?

• Changing stylesheet href with jQuery doesn't quite work

  I'm creating a web app that user will be accessing in the field, so they'd like to be able to manually toggle the styles from light to dark depending on the ambient lighting. I'm using jQuery. I added an id attribute to my stylesheet, then created a button using the toggle() event, in which I change the href attribute to the CSS file I want. The CSS file has several @import directives as I split the styles into several files for maintainability. My problem is only the main CSS file is being applied. I tried using the absolute path in the @import directives, but no luck. Is there a fix here I'm missing, or do I have to inlcude everything in a single CSS file? Edit: Apprently this is only a problem in IE8, works fine in Chrome and Firefox. Unfortunately, my client wants only IE8. Looks like this is a duplicate of this question.

• Visual Studio 2010 element names for theming

  I am trying to figure out what the element name for the tooltip is in Visual studio so that I can change the style using the extension found here. Anyone know what that is? I am using the default theme which seems to have a white to light grey gradient on it. This is less than optimal since the text for the functions are also white. In a more general question (and perhaps better), is there anything that maps the names as they are found in the theme to where they are in the IDE.

My specification is to truncate the string, display some message like Read More at the end and when user clicks on it, the text slides down. UPDATE: Ah! Forgot one thing.   I am learning JPA and have confusion in the @SequenceGenerator annotation. Upto my understanding, it automatically assigns a value to numeric identity fields/properties of an entity. Q1. Does this sequence generator make use of the database's increasing numeric value generating capability or generates the number on his own? Q2. If JPA uses database auto increement feauture, then will it work with datastores that don't have auto increement feature? Q3. If JPA generate numeric value on his own, then how the JPA implementation knows which value to generate next? Does it consult with the database first to see what value was stored last so as to generate the value (last + 1). ====================================================================================== Q4. Please also throw some light on sequenceName and allocationSize properties of @SequenceGenerator annotation.

• Is it posibble to send websocket data over 126 chars?

  Its seems that everybody says that it is possible to send over 126 chars of data over websocket. I looked at many websocket server examples on the web and non of them can transfer over 126 chars from client to server and from server to client. I understand that it is something with dataframes and opcodes but i never figured it out. I'm using C#. Can somebody please put some light on this subject? any code example for receiving and sending data over 126 chars will be very very thankful
