• Asus MyCinema U3100mini Choppy

  I'm running an Asus MyCinema U3100mini ATSC on Windows 7 64-bit. When I play live TV in Windows Media Center, it's very choppy and uses 500+ MB of RAM, I'm guessing due to the hard drive buffering functionality. Is there any way to disable the live TV pause buffer completely? If not, can anyone recommend alternative software that: Works with the MyCinema. Is lightweight and not horribly bloated with features I'll never use like Windows Media Center is. Edits: This is a dual boot system. I've discovered that the tuner actually works fine on XP. It also works fine on my other computer, which has slower hardware and also runs Windows 7 64-bit. The problem actually seems to be with playback at large screen sizes, not with hard drive buffering. Everything works fine below a certain window size and fails for large windows or full screens. Also, the same thing seems to happen whether playing live or recorded TV. As far as the obvious stuff goes, I have the latest video drivers from ATI for my Radeon x1050.

• Cannot change PostgreSQL port

  I run Postgresql 8.4 as a service on a CentOS 6.2 server. I set port = 21444 and listen_addresses = '*' in /var/lib/pgsql/data/postgresql.conf and I changed 5432 to 21444 in postmaster.opts and restarted postgres, but when I run netstat -lntp postgresql is still running on port 5432 tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:5432 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 20276/postmaster When I restart postgresql I get a writting error warning on /proc/self/oom_adj, but the service starts anyway. I read that we could get this error when using virtualized servers, but I don't really know if this has inpact on postgresql listening port.   I just recently noticed I have to attempt a login into hotmail twice before it succeeds. Although I'm using Google Chrome (3.0.195.21), the symptoms are well described in a Mozilla thread. In short, I'm told: The e-mail address or password is incorrect. Please try again. The thread on mozilla's site that supposed to describe the latest details (and the 1st hit on google when I search for "hotmail login twice") requires an account to read so I'm hoping someone here has a good synopsis of what the cause is. I normally start at hotmail.com, which redirects to login.live.com/.... I can login by starting at mail.live.com, using IE8 or attempting a 2nd login. Oddly, if I start at login.live.com Chrome tells me there is a redirect loop. Does anyone know or have a public link to the root cause of the double login? (it is a hotmail account I'm login into) EDIT - Caused by my 'restricting how 3rd parties can use cookies'. If I allow all cookies, it works first time.

• Creating Custom ISO Images

  I am working on creating some custom ISO images using primarily Fedora and CentOS. I want the image to be a bootable live CD with some specific files on it. I also want it to have the option to be able to be downloaded to the hard drive. I've read some various articles but want to get a few more opinions since I've never done this before. Currently I'm trying 2 different methods. Install Fedora with the configuration exactly how I want it and then run the livecd-tools program to pull everything I currently have to an ISO. I haven't got this to work yet but I do see a few issues with it. Such as the default passwords I had to put in. Run a Fedora live CD and install a few things I want on it and then copy the image of it. I believe this would work better since it has more of a live cd feel. However I"m not 100% sure how I should go about pulling the current image to my own ISO. I know some people have said to use mkisofs and a few other programs but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

• ubuntu VM not detecting CDdrives

  Ihave insatlled ubuntu 10.4 on my compuer with 6 cd drives. Now initiallyi had window server 2008 and i had to install marvel raid sata controller and then my window detected all 6 drives. Now ubuntu is detecting only 3 drives and i have not found marvell drivers for ubuntu bt i have drives for window 2008. • RPC Server Unavailable on Hyper-V cluster when moving resources after the host adapter has failed

  On a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 cluster running Hyper-V, a lost network connectivity on the primary host interface. The interface was rapidly flapping up and down, and this was later determined to be caused by a faulty switch port. As this was a clustered server, the host interface was not fault tolerant (seeing as how the whole server was fault tolerant), so connectivity to the host was going up and down. The Hyper-V guests were completely unaffected by the network outage as they used a dedicated trunk on the server separate from the host interface. Additionally, dedicated interfaces for the cluster and live migration networks were fine. In order to diagnose the server, I tried to move all resources (Hyper-V Guests) to other nodes through Failover Cluster Manager. These moves failed with an error RPC Server Unavailable. The only way to move resources was by shutting down the guests, stopping the cluster service on the Node A, allowing other nodes to take ownership of the resources, and restarting the guests. A few other notes: All nodes have Client for MS Networks and File & Printer Sharing enabled on the Cluster and LM networks. Node A was accessible over cluster and LM networks from other nodes (these are private, cluster-only networks); pingable, CIFs, etc. Accessing \\NODEA is done over the Host adapters, as you would expect in this case and is the reason for the RPC Server Unavailable error with that adapter being down. My questions here are - Is there a way to still use Live Migration in a failure scenario such as this to prevent shutting down the Hyper-V guests? How can the network be reconfigured in the future so that the cluster service attempts to use the cluster and/or live migration networks to issue the RPC requests?

  I dont use google maps much, but I was using it today and I clicked the "Show my location" button for the first time, then firefox asked for permission and I clicked "share my location", google maps showed my location pretty accurate. But, how does this system really works? I mean how can google know where I live? I am connecting to the internet with a VPN, so my "public IP" is not from my country, but from sweden, also I use linux and I change the mac of my wireless device, but google still show my location. I know I can disable this feature setting firefox about:config geo.enabled to false, but I am curious about how google can know where I live even when I dont have a real mac address and my IP is not from my real country. Basically I'd like to know if this feature works only because of code that exists in chrome and firefox (which spies my system)? I am worried about anyone knowing where I live, I mean... where is my privacy? Part of the fun about the internet is remaining anonymous.

• Removing all traces of GNU java and openjdk and replacing with Sun JDK

  I have installed latest Sun JDk. But when I do: java -version I still got OpenJDK version. So I completely removed OpenJDK. But now when I do: java -version I get even older GNU java 1.5 something libgcj. So I completely removed that too but it was asking to remove bunch of dependent apps like OpenOffice.org Writer etc. Even though I need the writer, I let it go because I do not want ever to see the face of any GNU java on my linux. So everything related to GNU java is removed. Luckily I am able to start Eclipse and it works fine and start normally (apparently using the installed Sun JDK which is what I want). But now when I run java -version I get bash: /usr/bin/java: No such file or directory Now what I need to do so that when I open any terminal window and enter java -version I should get Sun JDK version? Sun JDK is installed in /usr/java/jdk1.6.021. I also have symlinks: /usr/java/latest and /usr/java/defaults pointing to sun jdk.

• Issues with returned mail sent to web-based email domains

  My company is having issues with returned mail that we send out to external domains. A few weeks ago we replaced a firewall and changed ISP providers and began subsequently having issues RECEIVING emails from external sources because we hadn't updated our new IPs in the DNS records. After making the necessary configuration changes and setting up SMTP forwarding over port 25 to our mail server, everything was working fine up until a few days ago when we started having mail sent out returned to us. We aren't having any trouble communicating internally (to recipients on our domain) but it seems we're having trouble with outbound messages to web-based email recipients. (@hotmail, @live, @yahoo, @gmail...etc) Currently we are running Server 2003 SP2 and exchange 2003. I'm very unfamiliar with configuring Exchange and could really use some help in narrowing down the possibilities. I did some research and am becoming suspicious of Sender ID being the culprit due to our recent IP address change and the likelihood that Sender ID is identifying us as a fake domain. Am I going in entirely the wrong direction? Any input or guidance would be infinitely appreciated. This is the message that is returned when an outbound message fails...this particular one was sent to my @live.com account for testing purposes... Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. The following recipient(s) could not be reached: [email protected] on 5/17/2012 3:02 PM There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator. Unfortunately, messages from xx.x.xx.x weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list. I tried a reverse DNS lookup and found that we are set up as a Forward-confirmed reverse DNS. So do I just need to contact my ISP and have them correct their DNS records or is this something I can solve on our end??

• ASP.NET Creating a Rich Repeater, DataBind wiping out custom added controls...

  So...I had this clever idea that I'd create my own Repeater control that implements paging and sorting by inheriting from Repeater and extending it's capabilities. I found some information and bits and pieces on how to go about this and everything seemed ok... I created a WebControlLibrary to house my custom controls. Along with the enriched repeater, I created a composite control that would act as the "pager bar", having forward, back and page selection. My pager bar works 100% on it's own, properly firing a paged changed event when the user interacts with it. The rich repeater databinds without issue, but when the databind fires (when I call base.databind()), the control collection is cleared out and my pager bars are removed. This screws up the viewstate for the pager bars making them unable to fire their events properly or maintain their state. I've tried adding the controls back to the collection after base.databind() fires, but that doesn't solve the issue. I start to get very strange results including problems with altering the hierarchy of the control tree (resolved by adding [ViewStateModeById]). Before I go back to the drawing board and create a second composite control which contains a repeater and the pager bars (so that the repeater isn't responsible for the pager bars viewstate) are there any thoughts about how to resolve the issue? In the interest of share and share alike, the code for the repeater itself is below, the pagerbars aren't as significant as the issue is really the maintaining of state for any additional child controls. • Tridion Installation

  I am currently upgrading an installation of Tridion from 5.3 to 2011 starting almost from scratch (aside from migrating the database), brand new virtual servers. I just want to ask for some advice on my current server setup... a sanity check. All servers are running Windows Server 2008. The pages on our website are all classic ASP. Database SQL Server cluster. The 5.3 database has been migrated using the DatabaseManager. This is pretty standard and works well (in test anyway). Content Manager A single server to run the Content Manager and the Publisher. There are around 10 people using it at any one time so not under a particularly heavy load. Content Data Store Filesystem located somewhere on the network. One directory for live and one for staging. Content Delivery Two servers (cd1 and cd2) each with the the following server roles installed. cd1 writes to a filesystem content data store for the live website, cd2 writes to the content data store for the staging website. Presentation Two public facing web servers (web1 and web2) serving both the live and staging websites. The web servers read directly from the content data store as its a filesystem. Each of the web servers have the Content Delivery Server installed so that I can use dynamic linking (and other features?). I've so far set up everything but the web servers. Any thoughts? edit Thanks to Ram S who linked me to a decent walkthrough, upvoted. I suppose I should have posed some questions as I didn't really ask a question. I guess I'm a little confused over the content deliver aspect. I have the Content Delivery split in two separate parts. cd1 and cd2 do the work of shifting information from the Content Manager to the Staging/Live web directories. web1 and web2 should do the work of serving the web pages to the outside world and will interact with the content data store (file system). Is this a correct setup? I need some parts of the Content Delivery on my web servers right? Theoretically I could get rid of the cd1 and cd2 servers and use web1 and web2 to do the deployment right? But I suspect this will put the web servers under unnecessary strain should there ever be a big publish. I've been reading the 2011 Installation Manual, Content Delivery section, and I'm finding it quite hard to get my head around!

• How do I hook a git pull on the remote?

  Is there a way to hook when a git pull happens on the remote (similar to a pre-receive or post-receive). Basically I'd like to be able to cause the remote to commit whatever it has when there is a pull. In my situation, whatever is live on the remote is an authoritative source which may get modified without a git commit. I want to make sure when I pull I'm always able to get the latest of whatever is live.

• creating a JQuery function

  Sorry to bother you guys & girls again on Christmas eve, but I need help creating a reusable JQuery function. I have "badly crafted" this set of code that all works. But I would really like to put it as a function so I don't have to keep repeating everything for each form. I am not too sure about how all the if statements can be combined etc. that is why I wrote it as it is.
