  I am trying to get Eclipse Galileo to re-run on my computer - i have run it before with no problems but now i keep getting this error: A java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development kit (JDK) must be available in order to run Eclipse. No Java virtual machine was found after searching the following locations: C:\eclipse\jre\javaw.exe javaw.exe in your current PATH I've just done a fresh install of both the JDK and the SDK I have Windows 7 (x64) what's up with this? / how do i fix it-? • Display page numbers in a excel sheet generated using C#.NET

  Hello Stackers Does anyone have an idea on how to include or input the page numbers in the excel sheet generated using C# code. I use the libraries available in Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel to generate the file. However by default in the output i cannot see the page numbers. I know to enable this via excel options (View -- Header and Footer ...) but i want to automate this via C#. Is this possible, if yes kindly share the snippet for the same. Thanks Constant Learner

  I have both 2003 and 2007 Excel versions installed on my machine. The current source code uses Office11 (2003) interop assembly Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll to create the Excel template. When I create the template and open in Excel 2007, it opens perfectly. • Automatically find compiler options for fastest exe on given machine?

  Is there a method to automatically find the best compiler options (on a given machine), which result in the fastest possible executable? Naturally, I use g++ -O3, but there are additional flags that may make the code run faster, e.g. -ffast-math and others, some of which are hardware-dependent. Does anyone know some code I can put in my configure.ac file (GNU autotools), so that the flags will be added to the Makefile automatically by the ./configure command? In addition to automatically determining the best flags, I would be interested in some useful compiler flags that are good to use as a default for most optimized executables.

• Why ping another innet machine from MacBook get netgate's ip address?

  I have three machine in my home network connected by a wireless router. One is server installed linux at 192.168.1.1, another is Thinkpad with MS Windows XP at 192.168.1.2, last one is MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.3 at 192.168.1.3. When I ping the Linux Server from Thinkpad (MS Windows XP) I can get the correct ip address, but when I ping it from Mac I get the global address of my router, like 61.135.181.175. Could you tell me why this happen? And how do I get same ping result on Mac and Windows. Thanks

• How can I build against Microsoft.Web.Administration (IIS 7.x) on a Windows 2003 build machine?

  Hi, I am writing a C# config app for (amongst other things) setting up websites. It's only required to support IIS 7.x (Windows 2008 / 2008 R2), and requiring the compatibility pack is a no-no, so I figured I'd just use the Microsoft.Web.Administration namespace. However, the only place I can find the assembly that contains this namespace (Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll) is from the IIS 7.x installation folder, and our main build machines are Windows 2003 and so cannot install IIS 7.x. One option is to mandate a 2008 build machine but we currently only have one so that's not ideal. We've already ruled out appcmd.exe. The other option is to make a package consisting of the dlls necessary to build against Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll. Has anyone tried that? Is there such a package already in existence, hidden somewhere on the MS download site? Thanks in advance.

I'm planning on having a simple database (not many tables) but will use Entity Framework. • How do I track a branch of another repository on the same machine?

  I have two private repositories on one machine. Let's call them repo-A and repo-B, which are the directories ~/repo-A and ~/repo-B, respectively. repo-A has two relevant branches: master and live. I'd like to set up repo-B to track repo-A's live branch, so that git pull will pull any updates from repo-A's live branch into repo-B's master branch. Right now, I have the following in repo-B's .git/config: [remote "origin"] url = /home/stutzbach/repo-A/ fetch = +refs/heads/live:refs/remotes/origin/live [branch "master"] remote = origin merge = refs/heads/master However, when I run git pull, it seems to pull from repo-A's master branch. Obviously, I don't have it set up right. What's the right way?

  Hi: I'm reading up on ASP.NET, and just came to a chapter that explains how to upload a file to your website. It says that in order to save a file to your file system, in the case of every OS except Win Server '03, an ASP.NET page executes in the security context of the ASPNET account. I don't have an ASPNET account running on my machine (win xp pro sp3; .NET 3.5). The program runs fine, by the way, I'm just trying to understand what an ASPNET account is exactly, and why it doesn't seem to show up on my list of user accounts. Thanks.

• Is there any advantage to having more than 16gb ram on a Windows Dev machine?

  Assuming a machine (Dual Quad Core Xeon (2.26GHz) with 24GB RAM) running Windows Server 2008 and Hyper-V. How many VMs can I expect to run at the same time with good performance. Is this overkill? Can you really have too much RAM? Assuming 2GB per VM thats around 16GB for the VMs with 8GB left over for the Main OS and Hyper-V. Sound about right? Edit: Tried to make the question sound less like bragging. Was never my intention. Its a hard question to write.

The server will run a very minimal version of Ubuntu server LTS (only LAMP and email server no GUI). I want to write a script (scheduled as a cron job) that will allow me to upload local files onto the server. I want to use [SFTP][1], for security reasons. I am new to shell scripting - but I guess shell scripting is the way to do this (unless I am mistaken).   I have a text file with machine code in this form: B2 0A 05 B2 1A 01 B3 08 00 17 B2 09 18 where an instruction has this format: OP Mode Operand Note: Operand could be 1 or 2 bytes. Where:(example) OP = B2 Mode = 0A Operand = 05 How can I read the bytes in a variable? As shown in the above example. When i read the file I get individual characters. I have an array of pointers where I read individual line, but still cannot solve the problem of reading a byte. Any ideas,suggestions. I hope I am not confusing anyone here. Thank you.

• How do I run multiple ruby scripts sequentially on my local machine?

  I have about 5 or 6 ruby scripts I want to run, right after each other. These are all on my local machine (OS X) and won't be run on a server. Each takes about 15 minutes to run, and I don't want to have to wait for each one to finish before running the others manually. Without using something as heavy as delayed_job or some other queueing gem, how can I achieve this? Or should I go through the hassle of setting up sidekiq or something else? Thanks. P.S. It would be nice to restart the script if one of them times out (I am doing web crawling, so keeping an HTTP connection open sometimes gives me issues) - which happens occasionally.

  I've got an unusual build error when using Buildroot to create an image for my Phidget SBC. It's unusual because it occurs ONLY on my development laptop and NOT on my general use laptop even though I am using EXACTLY the same Builroot environment as published by Phidgets themselves. • Is there any way to view PHP code (the actual code not the compiled result) from a client machine?

  This may be a really stupid question...I started worrying last night that there might be someway to view PHP files on a server via a browser or someother means on a client machine. My worry is, I have an include file that contains the database username and password. If there were a way to put the address of this file in to a browser or some other system and see the code itself then it would be an issue for obvious reasons. Is this a legitimate concern? If so how do people go about preventing this?

• When machine code is generated from a program how does it translates to hardware level operations ??

  Like if say the instruction is something like 100010101 1010101 01010101 011101010101. Now how is this translating to an actual job of deleting something from memory? Memory consists of actual physical transistors the HOLD data. What causes them to lose that data is some external signal? I want to know how that signal is generated. Like how some binary numbers change the state of a physical transistor. Is there a level beyond machine code that isn't explicitly visible to a programmer? I have heard of microcode that handle code at hardware level, even below assembly language. But still I pretty much don't understand. Thanks!

• How do I connect two computers with a LAN cabel?

  I have two machines - Windows XP and a laptop using Windows 7. I connected them with a WLAN cable. On the Windows XP machine, I set the IP address to 192.168.0.10. On the Windows 7 laptop, I set the IP address to 192.168.0.20. The laptop can see the Windows XP machine, but Windows XP machine cannot see the Windows 7 machine. But this does NOT concern me. I want to move the files from my desktop (Windows XP) to Windows 7 (laptop). That's why I'm going through all this. The problem is that when I try to connect from Windows 7 to Windows XP machine, I get this window: I don't understand what username/password is needed. I use none on the Windows XP machine. I tried all usernames - no success. Please explain in deep details how to solve my problem so I can connect to my Windows XP machine. EDIT: Maybe this can help: the Windows XP machine is named 'I' and '???????? III' is the name of the laptop. Both computers share one workgroup - WORKGROUP.

  I so sick and tired of having my components pass the minimum requirements of a game and then I get 15 FPS on the game on everything low. Should't PC developers say 'use at least this video card for a smooth 30 FPS'? Here are my specs: Windows 7 2GB DDR2 RAM XFX Nvidia 9400gt Intel Pentium D Dual Core 2.8ghz I should be at LEAST getting 30 FPS on everything low right? Please tell me what I can do to make games run as they should, or is my video card not good for these games? Here are the recommended requirements from the official site: Recommended System Requirements for Mass Effect on the PC Operating System: Windows XP or Vista Processor: 2.6+GHZ Intel or 2.4+GHZ AMD Memory: 2 Gigabyte Ram Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX or higher. • Why does Mac OS X Software Update not work when machine uses Active Directory?

  My company's IT department is mostly a Windows run operation and in order to become more secure, they are altering the way that the Macintosh computers login to our internal network so that they use Active Directory like their Windows counterparts. I have been given Administrative permission on my Mac and I am able to do most of what I used to be able to do in terms of authentication of software installations. However, there is a problem: the "Software Update" feature doesn't work. What happens is that when I try to get the Mac to perform its Software Updates from the Apple menu, the normal window appears listing what has to be updated; I am able to select what to update and click the "Update" button, but then nothing happens. It doesn't ask for authentication like it used to, the computer doesn't perform any download or installation (it does sometimes ask me to agree to license agreements for iTunes). I can download the updates individually and install them without any issues, but the auto-update fails. I'd rather use the Software Update menu item like I used to: it is much more convenient. Any suggestions on how I can fix this? EDIT Nov 19th, 2009, 10:09 EST: I have posted this question to the Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard support forum. EDIT Nov 19th, 2009, 12:39 EST:Yes, the Terminal command "sudo softwareupdate --install --all" does work flawlessly. I want to avoid that as my co-workers are generally not comfortable on the Mac. I also tried Chealion's suggestion to delete "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist" and "/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist", Software Update still fails. However, I did get diagnostic messages in the Console (below). I've deleted the MS Office Package Receipts and examined the suhelperd (Software Update Helper Daemon?); it appears that suhelperd is crashing and that explains why it doesn't work. I've submitted a bug report to Apple (radar://7408619). • How do I connect two computers with a LAN cable?

  I have two machines - Windows XP and a laptop using Windows 7. I connected them with a WLAN cable. On the Windows XP machine, I set the IP address to 192.168.0.10. On the Windows 7 laptop, I set the IP address to 192.168.0.20. The laptop can see the Windows XP machine, but Windows XP machine cannot see the Windows 7 machine. But this does NOT concern me. I want to move the files from my desktop (Windows XP) to Windows 7 (laptop). That's why I'm going through all this. The problem is that when I try to connect from Windows 7 to Windows XP machine, I get this window: I don't understand what username/password is needed. I use none on the Windows XP machine. I tried all usernames - no success. Please explain in deep details how to solve my problem so I can connect to my Windows XP machine. EDIT: Maybe this can help: the Windows XP machine is named 'I' and '???????? III' is the name of the laptop. Both computers share one workgroup - WORKGROUP.

• How do I make some files on my machine accessible via HTTP using Apache?

  I did a wget on the source and built the apache binaries correctly. Now what do I need to do to get some documents accessible using HTTP (start some services?)? Also, do I need to group all the files I want to make accessible in some directory and make the directory and its contents accessible or can I just make the individual documents available? I will be providing these links to my colleagues and do not want them to be down, so need to make sure that the apache services are up automatically after a reboot. Does apache have some inbuilt support for this?

• Can't view other computers on Network

  Systems: My Machine: Windows 7 Ultimate connected through ethernet into router Her Machine--Other Machine: Windows 7 Ultimate connected through wireless Router:F5D8236-4 N Wireless Router Version 1 Firmware: 2.01.03 (Apr 28 2009) ISP: Comcast Problem: I can not view the "Other Machine" on the network at all. I opened command prompt and ran net view and saw the pc name. I tried pinging the pc and it times out. Went inside the router and tried viewing the computer on the DHCP list and it can not be seen. I restored the router back to default settings and firmware and completely reset the modem and router, and created home group. I went to the other machine to configure home group settings and made sure that both PC's had identical settings. She was able to see my machine but I could not see hers. I restarted both machines and now we cant see each other at all. Also her PC ("Other Machine") had exclamation mark in the wireless icon but was connected just fine. There is no firewalls on currently or anti-virus enabled, and still can not see each other. Right now I am checking for updated drivers for the wireless card, but my question is could it be the router or something hardware related? I have went through all the settings in the Home group and visited most FAQ's and still no luck. Also as it stands I can not view her machine inside the router DHCP Client List :(

• What would I need to do to clone a Linux install to another machine?

  Basically, I want to make an image of one Linux install I have, and distribute it over similar (if not identical) spec machines on a network. I know it is possible, however am unsure of what needs to be done before I make the image of the install to ensure it works correctly on all machines. First think I know needs to be done, is remove all interface configuration, as I assume it would just jump to eth1 (and possibly use the same MAC), as it wont locate the network interface it had before, how would I do this so it auto detects and goes to eth0 again? Is there anything else I would need to do to the install before I make its image?
