  Recently, I noticed traffic from the office network to TCP port 445 on the Internet [a]. Below are the Linux firewall log entries to Facebook's network [b] and Google's network [c]. I would like to identify the source of this traffic. My first guess is that Facebook and Google might be using multiple TCP ports for SSL load balancing. However, I could not confirm this based on the web proxy logs. What else might it be?   I have an interent connection with the speed of 4000k bits up and down. I want to do port based traffic shaping on a ubuntu machine, which acts as router. eth0 is the WAN interface. This is how I would like to allocate bandwidth: For ports 80 and 445 the bandwidth usage can go upto 90% For ports above 1024 upto 65535 the bandwidth usage can go upto 10% For remaining ports the bandwidth usage can go upto 40% The easiest way for achieving the above is using a router with tomato firmware. I have used it and it is very efficient. I want to try if it can be done on a Ubuntu or any GNU/Linux machine. I have googled extensively about the topic and I feel there isn't much information.

• MySQL port 3306 became filtered when configured with Keepalived on Ubuntu server 12.04 lts

  I'm configuring two load balancer (lb01 & lb02) with keepalived for my two mysql server (db01 & db02) with standard port 3306. There is virtual ip address (192.168.205.10) to access it also act as failover, but somehow the web server in the front can't access this mysql server using vip. Here is my config: Keepalived: Only the mysql part that i added here. LB01: virtual_server 192.168.205.10 3306 { delay_loop 6 lb_algo rr lb_kind DR protocol TCP real_server 192.168.205.4 3306 { weight 10 TCP_CHECK { connect_port 3306 connect_timeout 2 } } } LB02: virtual_server 192.168.205.10 3306 { delay_loop 6 lb_algo rr lb_kind DR protocol TCP real_server 192.168.205.6 3306 { weight 10 TCP_CHECK { connect_port 3306 connect_timeout 2 } } } I already comment out the "bind-address=127.0.0.1" part in both server my.cnf.   I've installed plesk 10 on centOS and after installing to access the cp you need to go https::8443 I'm not being able to, and would like to find out why i can ssh to the server and i can, from the server telnet, to those ports. from another machine i can ping it but when i try to telnet or go to that address i get connection timeout, happens with port 80 and 8443 from my netstat netstat -nlp | grep 8443 tcp 0 0 :::8443 :::* LISTEN 25205/sw-cp-serverd How do i find out whats causing the problem? I also have a router but firewall is at the minimum and the server configured as DMZ, also tried to redirect 8443 to 8443 of the server.

Along the way, we're trying to also set it up with a separate guest network and port forwarding/NAT, however we're having trouble setting it up so that the time capsule is handling the DHCP leases instead of the router. We've got DSL through Verizon through a Westell modem/router to the Time Capsule. Done the RTFM thing, and we haven't been able to get it to work. Can anyone explain how to get things set up properly for this configuration?

  I can't for the life of me get port forwarding to work on my Fortigate 50B. I followed the setup tips described on this other SF thread with no success. The only specific difference I can find is we are using load balancing through 2 different internet uplinks. Is there any caveat specific to this scenario that I might be missing? If you need any specific additional information please ask because I think I have checked everything: Virtual IP mapping on external interface wan1 ACCEPT all from any on wan1 to the corresponding server on internal No seeming offending firewall rules (any specific pitfalls that I might want to check for?)

• MRTG: Switch Port Throughput

  I currently have MRTG running in a Debian box. It currently polls a Netgear Switch for the speeds of 7 or so ports and then makes the graphs of them. It currently only records the bits/sec. I would like to set up MRTG to record and display the total amount of data that has gone through the port, not just the speed of it. I am somewhat new to MIBS and SNMP and so I need some help. The switch is a Netgear GS748AT and am not quite sure where to find the MIBS for it, or which MIBS I need to accomplish my task. Any and all help is appreciated!

  Hi, I have just finished setting up a Postfix mail server on a linux (ubuntu) platform. I have it sending and receiving email and it is not an open relay. It also supports secure smtp and imap. Now this is a pretty beginner question but should I be leaving port 25 open? (since secure smtp is preferred). if so then why? Also what about port 587? Also should I require any authentication on either of these ports? Please excuse my ignorance in this area :P

  When I try to send a mail from my Linux (CentOS) server, the exit status is 0, but the mail never reaches it's destination. The /var/log/maillog file has an entry something like this... I tried to send a mail to some other mail server and got the similar result.   The goal is to have access to internet thru SSH tunneling to SOCKS proxy. Me - ssh-on-my-vps - SOCKS proxy - internet Thing is I want to be able to quickly change the SOCKS proxy in this chain. If I use port forwarding on ssh, I assume I have to re-establish SSH tunnel with new SOCKS proxy address in parameters whenever I want to change proxy. Is that right? If it is, then I probably should always point SSH tunnel to localhost listening proxy server which will send requests to specified SOCKS proxy. So what local proxy I should choose that allows to easily change the destination SOCKS proxy via maybe reading from local file where I would put the SOCKS proxy address or via specifying new SOCKS address in its web-admin page?

• Filtering serial port io

  I am currently working on a project where I communicate with hardware via a com port on its respective pc(win xp or 7) It is a fairly large project and sifting through the log file can be a bit of pain. This is my current setup. I use putty to do the actual serial communication, and write it to a log file. Then using MinGW Msys I filter it using tail -f "puttyLog" | grep -i "search term" Is there a better way to do this? I mean specifically filtering the input in realtime. Not that mine is terrible, but it still involves having to read from a log and sometimes there have been hangups where it will be delayed for a minute or 2. I have used software in the past with a main io window and then internal filter panels, but can no longer remember or find it.

• Windows Server 2008 constantly spamming external IP's on outbound TCP port 445

  Hi Server Fault, I have a Windows Server 2008 box running as a Domain Controller. I have noticed in my Cisco ASA firewall logs that this box is continuously sending out (like a thousand requests a second) requests on TCP port 445 to external hosts. I have made an effort to deny this outbound traffic from getting on the internet (using the ASA), however I would like these requests to stop from even occurring at all. I have tried disabling TCP/IP over NetBIOS. I have even turned on Windows Advanced Firewall on the box itself to block outbound 445 but the ASA still detects this particular traffic hitting it. I have other DC's and similar type boxes which are not behaving the same way as this box. Is this normal? Is there a way to stop this spamming? Have I been infected? Thank you universe.

  I am new to configuring routers. We have purchased a RV016 Cisco business router that has multiwan capability. What we are attempting to do is take map services from 3 different servers and assign 3 different static IP addresses and then forward port 80 through the router. A short term solution to building a proxy server. Is this possible? Right now we have a consumer grade Cisco router and assign a static IP and it works, we attempted the same settings on the business router and cannot get to the internet. We set it DHCP and it works fine, however we want to to forward the static ports not use DHCP.

  I've got a mac running a Debian VirtualBox which forward the traffic from 8080 on the mac to 80 in the box and from 8443 to 443. The domains with the extension .dev are redirected on the mac to 127.0.0.1 with dnsmasq. The traffic on IP 127.0.0.1 is forwarded from 80 to 8080 and from 443 to 8443 using ipfw. So with this settings, my Debian VirtualBox gets all the traffic of my .dev domains in http or https. What I want is to be able to proxy the traffic of my .dev domains in http and https from my iPad to my Debian VirtualBox on the mac. I've try to setup an HTTP proxy on the ipad but I can only do it for one port (and it's not working with the port 443). Any idea on how I could achieve that ?

• Blocking IP address with port forwarding

  I have a website setup behind a router, so the router has the external facing address and it will forward requests to the webserver inside the network. If there are X number of invalid login attempts, that IP address will be blocked from logging in. The problem is that because the site is being accessed through port forwarding, all requests show up as though they are coming from the router address, and thus the router address becomes the blocked IP. I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the router (linksys wrt160n) or if this a more general issue. Is there a way to handle this?
