  • Remove folder structure from archive, ignore folder while archiving and fix error

    I am trying to make a script to backup each of my plesk hosts to individual files, I am having two problems: I would like to remove the folder structure from archive, the tar is 3 folders deep I am getting this error: tar: Removing leading `/' from member names I need my archive to ignore folders named "catch" because I don't need them in my archive.   • Better way to do "echo $x | sed ..." and "echo $x | grep ..."

    I often find this in scripts (and, I have to admit, write it myself): a=`echo $x | sed "s/foo/bar/"` or if echo $x | grep foo then ... fi Consider "foo" to include some regex stuff. I feel that there should be - and most likely is - a better way to phrase this, one that does not involve two commands and a pipe but wraps the thing into some more compact expression. I just can't find it. Anybody?

  • How can I tell when an FTP is complete?

    I have a cron job that processes files that my client's upload via FTP to my FreeBSD server. The cron job runs once an hour, and normally processing each file only takes a few seconds. The cron job looks in the client's upload directory and moves any new files to a tmp directory. It then processes the file(s) and moves them into a final directory where they are then available to the public through a website. The problem is, every once in awhile, the cron job runs just as a new file is being uploaded. It moves the half-uploaded file to the tmp directory, and tries to process it, and fails, of course. Question: how can I determine if the uploaded file is complete? The only thing I can think of is checking the file size to see if it's changing, but that seems like a kludge. Is there some sort of flag or something that is set when the upload is complete?

    My webserver is running freenas 8.0.4. Currently in /etc/crontab there is this task (daily) find /mnt/vol1/1 -type f -mtime +16 -exec rm -R {} \; This allow me to delete files older than 16 days.. infact every night a new file is added in /mnt/vol1/1 folder.. but now I wanna make a script that check the folder and keeps only the youngest 2 file.. whitout taking in consideration the days..   • What do I need to develop a PHP extension in lampp?

    Actually I'm dealing with a trouble in my system, I have to delivery the system to clients and it was built in PHP, JS, ShellScript and SQL. I would like to encrypt the code or obfuscate it from eyes of others! Then someone from the community told me about build my own PHP extension, it sounds to me as a great idea, since it will not be with the main code of the system. But I have a problem doing this way, if a programmer get in the extensions and find it, all the hard work has gone. Then I'm here to ask again about this matter. What is the best way to hide my Business Logic from third parties? I know that has stuffs like IonCube, Zend Guard, and many others. But I'm looking something that I can build myself. Is PHP extension the right way to follow? Or some Half SaaS system, with dependencies (Business Logic) in a remote server? About the environment OS: Kernel Linux 2.6.37.1-1.2 - LAMPP (Apache 2.2, MySQL 5.5 PHP 5.3.8) In php generally the extension is located at /php/ext/ but in lampp I have no idea where it is, I just found a folder /opt/lampp/lib/php/extensions/ is that right place?

  • Architectural approaches to creating a game menu/shell overlay on PC/Linux?

    I'm am working on a collection of games for a custom digital tabletop installation (similar to Microsoft Surface tables). Each game will be an individual executable that runs full-screen. In addition, there needs to be a menu/shell overlay program running simultaneously. The menu/shell will allow users to pause games, switch to other games, check their game history, etc. Some key requirements of the shell: it intercepts all user input (mainly multitouch) first before passing it on to the currently running game (so that it can, for instance, know to pop-up at a "pause" command); can reveal on arbitrary portions of the screen, with the currently running (but presumably paused) game still showing underneath, ideally with its shape/size being dynamic, to allow for creation of an animated in/out drawer effect over the game. I'm currently looking into different architectural approaches to this problem, including Fraps and DirectX overlays, but I'm sure I'm missing some ways to think about this. What are the main approaches I should be considering? (Note the table is currently being run by Windows PC, but it could potentially be a Linux box instead.)

  • What is the *right* way to use gnome-shell integrated chat?

    Please bear with me as I am still figuring out how to use gnome-shell. My question concerns how to use the integrated chat correctly. I have the following questions: 1) When people chat with me, it pops up as a notification on the hidden bar at the bottom of the screen, and then that chat stays there so I can access it later. How do I initiate a chat in this manner, without opening an empathy window? What I have been doing is Hitting super key Typing in the person's name, which brings up contacts Initiate the chat using empathy Immediately close the chat window When the person responds, it comes through as a notification. I then proceed to interact with the chat this way. 2) What is the keyboard shortcut for bringing up the notifications bar? Ideally, I would like to have the following experience Use some keyboard shortcut to bring up notifications Begin typing the name of the notification that I wish to investigate, and have the matching work in a fuzzy manner, much like Ido mode's buffer switching matching in Emacs When then right name is matched, I hit enter and then bring up the chat with that person as that popup notification. Are these behaviours supported? If not, I would be happy to work on implementing them. I am an experienced programmer, but not familiar with gnome-shell. If someone would point me in the right direction in terms of if this behaviour is supported, or where in the gnome-shell framework would I add to to get this behaviour, I would really appreciate it.     Hey guys, I'm trying to write a shell script under linux, which lists all folders (recursively) with a certain name and no symlink pointing to it. For example I have /home/htdocs/cust1/typo3_src-4.2.11 /home/htdocs/cust2/typo3_src-4.2.12 /home/htdocs/cust3/typo3_src-4.2.12 Now I want to go through all subdirectories of /home/htdocs and find those folders typo3_*, that are not pointed to from somewhere. Should be possible with a shellscript or a command, but I have no idea how. Thanks for you help Stefan

    I've create a plain and siple backup script that only backs up certain files and folders. tar -zcf $DIRECTORY/var.www.tar.gz /var/www tar -zcf $DIRECTORY/development.tar.gz /development tar -zcf $DIRECTORY/home.tar.gz /home Now this script runs for about 30mins then gives me the following error gzip: stdout: File too large Any other solutions that I can use to backup my files using shell scripting or a way to solve this error? I'm grateful for any help.

  • Why is Html.DropDownList() producing <select name="original_name.name"> instead of just <select name

    I have an editor template whose job is to take a SelectList as its model and build a select element in html using the Html.DropDownList() helper extension. I'm trying to assign the name attribute for the select based on a ModelMetadata property. (Reason: on post-back, I need to bind to an object that has a different property name for this item than the ViewModel used to populate the form.) The problem I'm running into is that DropDownList() is appending the name I'm providing instead of replacing it, so I end up with names like categories.category instead of category. Here is some code for you to look at... Questions What's going on here? Why does it append the name instead of just using it? Can you suggest a good workaround?   • Myfaces extensionfilter overriding renderkit? (Tree2 component)

    I've pulled in the tree2 component (from Tomahawk 1.1.9). Had used the simpler Tree component on previous projects, and this one just looks a bit nicer. Running on websphere 6.1.x and set the server side flag that's needed (com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.invokefilterscompatibility=true) and set the extensionfilter accordingly. Everything's good, and works as expected. Here's the issue: - on a page being included on this one (just some typical footer type info with NO myfaces widgets), there's some embedded html that's getting flagged with warnings in the systemout console). These look like org.apache.myfaces.renderkit.html.util.ReducedHTMLParser parse Invalid tag found: unexpected input while looking for attr name or '/' at line 475. Surroundings: 'span id="tile:footr:viewFragm'. org.apache.myfaces.renderkit.html.util.ReducedHTMLParser parse Invalid tag found: unexpected input while looking for attr name or '/' at line 479. Surroundings: 'a id="tile:footr:viewFragment'. org.apache.myfaces.renderkit.html.util.ReducedHTMLParser parse Invalid tag found: unexpected input while looking for attr name or '/' at line 492. Surroundings: 'a id="tile:footr:viewFragment'. The problem isn't necessarily with the html (which should be cleaned up regardless :-). IF I don't include myfaces, I don't get these warning messages with the default ibm jsf renderer (using jsf 1.1 still). Obviously, IBM's implementation is a bit more lax than myFaces. The page has nothing to do with myfaces at all. The reason for needing the extension filter is that it needs (for the Tree2 anyways, I know it does more for file upload) to intercept requests and then stick some .js includes on the page. Investigated this a bit, and I've included this filter in my web.xml, but it is NO longer fronting the faces servlet. So, the filter is instantiated at startup, but is never executed. Since the filter isn't in place, I've had to hard code in the includes for the 2 .js files into my page Now, the tree2 gets rendered properly, AND I'm not getting the warnings from above, because with the extentionfilter not being called, its using the IBM renderkit ;-) I'm a bit concerned that when the extension filter is in place, everything is being rendered by myFaces, rather than IBM's renderkit (i.e. All I want is myfaces/tomahawk to render the tree2 only, and let the ri do everything else) Can anyone confirm this? When you use myfaces/tomahawk, is it doing all the rendering for the whole application, or just the page any tomahawk widget is on? Thanks for any thoughts on this mike
