• VB.NET: SQLite to MSSQL

  I have a vb.net project that uses a SQLite database. I do this by using dataset/table adapters. The client is happy and all works well. However I have just heard that they plan on providing this product to another customer that wishes to use their MSSQL database. So I am writing this post so I can mentally prepare for this before I begin. I am not a database pro and have really enjoyed the simplicity of setting up and managing an SQLite database. So any ideas on the easiest way to support MSSQL as well? I am happy to run them parallel to each other. Can I just make a separate service / middleware that syncs the SQLite database to the MSSQL on a timer and does not care about what the main app is up to? Any pointers are appreciated.

  I'm fairly new to PHP - programming in general. So basically what I need to accomplish is, create an array of x amount of numbers (created randomly) who's value add up to n: Lets say, I have to create 4 numbers that add up to 30. I just need the first random dataset. The 4 and 30 here are variables which will be set by the user. Essentially something like x = amount of numbers; n = sum of all x's combined; create x random numbers which all add up to n; $row = array(5, 7, 10, 8) // these add up to 30 Also, no duplicates are allowed. I need the values with an array. I have been messing around with it sometime, however, my knowledge is fairly limited. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers

  hi, I'm trying to create a query in an access database for a C# dataset using the query editor but the created method says there is a problem and isn't created correctly. SELECT Discs.* FROM Discs WHERE (Title=@Title OR @Title IS NULL) AND (Type=@Type OR @Type IS NULL) AND (ContainerID=@ContainerID OR @ContainerID IS NULL) AND NOT (@Title IS NULL AND @Type IS NULL AND @ContainerID IS NULL) the error is: Generated SELECT statement. Error in WHERE clause near '@'. Unable to parse query text. the generated select method doesn't have any parameters and is unusable. I've tried the exact same SQL statement in the access query and it worked flawlessly, what am I supposed to be doing differently when transferring it to C#?

  I'm using ADO.NET in my C# project. In my form I added a SourceBinding element from my toolbox in VS2010. I set the connection to the table of my dataset. It creates a DataAdapter automaticly for my. I want to insert a record, so I call the Insert() method of the DataAdapter. But when I view my database data, it doesn't have any new records... orderID = this.orderTableAdapter.Insert("", "", (int)OrderStatus.IN_CONSTRUCTION, DateTime.Now); Or do I need to insert it manually with the SqlCommand???

• None of my Win Forms buttons work

  I have a windows form which connects to a SQL Server though a dataset. The form was working fine since my last compile. All of a sudden, none of my buttons work! The data is loaded on the form, all the tabs work fine, drop down boxes work fine, but the buttons are literally unresponsive to any clicks. I added a test button and I get the same results. I can visually see the button getting clicked but no events. Any ideas?

  Hi All, I need the snipped code in C# to mantain selected the row from a datagridview after that row is double clicked. Right now I'm displaying data from a dataset and the selection mode is FullRowSelect. Any way to set this? There are two scenarios to deal with: 1) Everytime the timer ticks the selected row always go to the first row of datagridview. 2) Once a row is clicked, it is selected but after the timer ticks the selected row goes to the first one.   I have an array where the order of the objects is important for when I finally output the array in a document. However, I'm also sorting the array in a function to find the highest value.   I'm currently coding a function in MATLAB that has two steps: It processes some data It does some calculations on the processed data I'm using the function to run a series of experiments, where I tweak the way calculations occur in step 2). Seeing how I'm working with a large dataset and the data processing step takes a while each time, however, I'm wondering whether there is anyway to code in a "warm start" in the function. That is to say, is there anyway to save all the progress that I've done after step 1) so that if I run the function a second or third time, it can skip step 1) and go right to step 2)?

  Sorry for the bad description it is tough to explain in one sentence. I have a dataset that has Cause field (RootCause) and an ID field (GroupID). Both can be many things but I need to identify where a GroupID has a multiple different rootcauses. for example: RootCause GrpId AAA 111 BBB 222 CCC 111 I am looking to be able to identify that GrpId 111 has two different RootCauses. This is what I have so far: Select [RootCause], GrpId, Count(GrpID) as CntGrpId From DB.dbo.Table Where DatatypeField <> '' Group BY [RootCause],GrpId This results set visualy gives me enough information to identify what I am looking for, but i need something better.   I'm using Solr for a realtime search index. My dataset is about 60M large documents. Instead of sorting by relevance, I need to sort by time. Currently I'm using the sort flag in the query to sort by time. This works fine for specific searches, but when searches return large numbers of results, Solr has to take all of the resulting documents and sort them by time before returning. This is slow, and there has to be a better way. What is the better way?

  I have a form that will have dynamically created elements, one of those will be of date type. There can also be many fields of this type on my form, all which must be validated. I am using a strongly typed view in Asp MVC, so the name will change based on various factors. What I would like to do is validate based on a class name instead, since that will be constant for that type of field. Ie: <%= Html.TextBox("questionAnswers[" + index + "].AnswerValue", qa.AnswerValue, new { @class = "DateTypeClass" })%> So then I would need JQuery validation based on the classname DateTypeClass versus the Name. Any ideas?

  I work with a ASP.NET UI framework that pulls fields for a particular screen off a database. These fields can be associated with particular data fields in another database for binding. The idea with this setup is that if a client needs a new column on a table, they can easily add it, and create a UI field that binds to it without any sort of application restart or recompile. The problem I've always had with this is that it has meant I'm always having to work with untyped datasets in my code. Are there any ORM libraries for .NET out there that could easily accommodate the requirement of being able to access arbitrary columns in the table schema over and above ones mapped to strongly typed fields?

• C++ for small, individual projects (i.e. hobby programming)

  I recently started C++. I am using PHP right now and decided to take a look at C++. Web programming had me working with a couple of languages, with a couple of people. I wanted to do programming where I only had to bother with one language and create small utility apps (mostly not web-based). I wanted a compiled, strongly-type language without memorizing a tome of classes. Basically I wanted to learn C++ for the following: mobile programming (I don't ever want to go touching Java, and I don't have a Mac for Objective C or IPhone SDK) small desktop apps like DTRs, POSs creating small desktop-based games creating small Air-like applications that can access the web for additional content I heard that C++ is not beginner-friendly and is mostly used for huge projects with lots of calculations and fine details (like 3D games). Is it practical or even possible for me to use C++ for the above cases? (Sorry, I haven't delved on C++ that much yet, so aside from "huge, monolithic project", I don't know any other uses for it)

Each bottom of the table (Table Footer), I have something called: "Total: " which is a sum of Total field.   Hello, First of all sorry that I could not think of a more descriptive title. What I want to do is the following using only SQL: I have some lists of strings, list1, list2 and list3. I have a dataset that contains two interesting columns, A and B. Column A contains a TransactionID and column B contains an ItemID. Naturally, there can be multiple rows that share the same TransactionIDs. I need to catch those transactions that have at least one item ID that exists whithin each list (list1, list2 AND list3). • Using a database with C#

  I have been trying to do something that I think would be really easy but have never used C# before and am having trouble with the details. I simple want to use a sql database with Visual C# Express 2008. For testing purposes I have a datagrid on my form that can reflect changes to the db. If i use this: codesTableAdapter.Fill(dataSet1.codes); The datagrid(dataset) will fill with the info from the sql database. If i then do something like this: codesTableAdapter.InsertQuery(txtCode.Text,txtName.Text); codesTableAdapter.Fill(dataSet1.codes); codesTableAdapter.Update(dataSet1); dataSet1.AcceptChanges(); The datagrid reflects the changes but if close the program and go to the database the changes are not there. When I open the program again the changes are not there. I have a feeling this isn't too clear as my understanding here is very low so please let me know what other info is needed. Thanks

I just always thought that all these programs are being parsed one time at the bootstrap - transformed in a 'strongly-typed' statements tree etc.. Is that not true?
