  Hi I am using the GNU-Emacs-23 editor. I have this huge text file containing about 10,000 lines which I want to chop into multiple files. Using the mouse to select the required text to paste in another file is the really painful. Also this is prone to errors too. If I want to divide the text file according to the line numbers into say 4 file where first file:lines 1-2500 second file:lines 2500-5000 third file :lines 5000-7500 fourth file: lines: 7500-10000 how do I do this? At the very least, is there any efficient way to copy large regions of the file just by specifying line numbers

• Set Focus After Last Character in Text Box

  I have 3 text boxes for a phone number. As the user types, it automatically moves from one textbox to the next. When the user presses backspace, I can move focus to the previous text box. The problem is that in IE, focus is set to the beginning of the text box.   In asterisk I have sent a text message using SendText as follows I have two registered users in sip.conf file. sip.conf details [thillai] username=thillai secret=thillai host=dynamic type=friend allow=all context=test [selvan] username=selvan secret=selvan allow=all host=dynamic type=friend context=test Then I have created the necessary extensions like this extensions.conf file: [test] exten = 677,1,BackGround(thankyou) exten = 677,n,Dial(SIP/thillai) exten = 677,n,SendText('this is for testing') So when a caller is trying to call to extension 677 this text information will be sent. My question is how can I receive this text in the caller side? Any help will be much appreciated.

  Hi Could someone tell me how to add a new line in a text that i enter in a mySql table. I tried using the '\n in the line i entered with INSERT INTO statement but '\n is shown as it is. Actually i have created a table in Ms Access with some data. Ms Access adds new line with '\n. I am converting Ms Access table data into mySql . But when i convert, the '\n is ignored and all the text is shown in one single line when i display it from mySql table on a php form. Can anyone tell me how mySQL can add a new line in a text ?   So I have this text generated by a javascript plugin. <a class="className">Text</a> a.className { background: url(images/a-image.png) no-repeat; } But the "Text" shows on top of the image... Now... with any respectable web browser, I can use color: rgba(0,0,0,0); to solve the problem, but IE7 doesn't obey standards of any sort. Any ideas?

• jQuery ajax request to php, how to return plain text only

  I am making an ajax request to a php page and I cannot for the life of me get it to just return plain text. $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: '/shipping/test.php', cache: false, dataType: 'text', data: myData, success: function(data){ console.log(data) } }); in test.php I am including this script to get UPS rates. I am then calling the function with $rate = ups($dest_zip,$service,$weight,$length,$width,$height); I am doing echo $rate; at the bottom of test.php. When viewed in a browser shows the rate, that's great. But when I request the page via ajax I get a bunch of XML. • Strip text of all formatting on paste

  I have an application that allows the user to create an article. The problem arises when the user pastes from something like Word which comes loaded with a bunch of markup. I'm using a jQuery editor called tiny_mce which allows the markup. I do a htmlencode and decode obviously but it means that i carry a huge payload of markup. Is there a way to strip (all) markup from pasted text and just keep the text? Or is there a way that tiny_mce can show the markup as text?

• issues using facebook iphone api to post image and text

  I have been trying to use the facebook iphone api to publish an image and some text from my app (i.e. using FBRequest call:@"facebook.stream.publish" with the appropriate params. I've found that the behavior is extremely erratic, as it first worked fine when I implemented it, then, completely stopped working (the request would fail and nothing would show up), and now sometimes posts only the text and most of the time posts only the image in a gallery style (returning a failure). I've read that it's something broken on Facebook's side, however, I see other people's games posting things periodically with images and text and wonder if I might be doing something fundamentally different that is much less reliable or stable. Has anyone encountered such an issue or has more familiarity with this?

• Is there an easy way to concatenate several lines of text into a string without constantly appending

  So I essentially need to do this: String text = "line1\n"; text += "line2\n"; text += "line3\n"; useString( text ); There is more involved, but that's the basic idea. Is there anything out there that might let me do something more along the lines of this though? DesiredStringThinger text = new DesiredStringThinger(); text.append( "line1" ); text.append( "line2" ); text.append( "line3" ); useString( text.toString() ); Obviously, it does not need to work exactly like that, but I think I get the basic point across. There is always the option of writing a loop which processes the text myself, but it would be nice if there is a standard Java class out there that already does something like this rather than me needing to carry a class around between applications just so I can do something so trivial.   Hi there I'm attempting to rotate a piece of text on its end within a div using the following different methods. writing-mode: tb-rl; filter: FlipH FlipV; and: -ms-transform: rotate(-90deg); filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Matrix(M11=6.123233995736766e-17, M12=1, M21=-1, M22=6.123233995736766e-17, sizingMethod='auto expand'); Although the text rotates properly in all browsers using either method and even IE all the way up to and including 8. IE 9 produces a horrid pixelated text which is nigh unreadable. Alongside this, IE9 also subtly breaks the layout of various pieces in the application which could be part of the same underlying problem perhaps. If anyone knows a way around this I would be most appreciative. John

  Hi, I'm building some home automation software with Cocoa/Objective-C. The main application will have a minimal GUI and will most likely be represented by a status bar icon only. I'm using proprietary speech-to-text software (MacSpeech Dictate) that takes my voice command and converts it to plain text. I then need to send this plain text to my app for parsing. Is there a way to send a string to a Cocoa application? Could AppleScript achieve this? How would I make the NSString string in my app "available" to receive the passed string? What's wrong with my code? - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; lblResult = [UILabel alloc]; } - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { lblResult.text = @"BlahBlah"; } I linked lblResult to Label object in IB well. But the label only shows the default text. Where's my BlahBlah?? And when the default string I set in the IB actually set to lblResult?? The reason that BlahBlah string is not displyed is I guess because lblResult.text is over-written by default string specified from IB. Just my guess. Can anyone make me clear with that?

To make it easier for people to answer to threads I would like to enable reply-to-post, similar to basecamp and a bunch of other forums and tools out there. • Is there a faster way to draw text?

  Shark complains about a big performance hit with this line, which takes like 80% of CPU time. I have a counter that is updated very frequently and performance seriously sucks. It's an custom UILabel subclass with -drawRect: implemented. Every time the counter value changes, this is used to draw the new text: [self.text drawInRect:textRect withFont:correctedFont lineBreakMode:self.lineBreakMode alignment:self.textAlignment]; When I comment this line out, performance rocks. Its smooth and fast. So Shark isn't wrong about this. But what could I do to improve this? Maybe go a level deeper? Does that make any sense? Probably drawing text is really so incredible heavy...?

• Split text files Accross threads

  The problem: I have a few text files (10) with numbers in them on every line. I need to have them split across some threads I create using the pthread library. these threads that are created (worker threads) are to find the largest prime number that gets sent to them (and over all the largest prime from all of the text files). My current thoughts on solutions: I am thinking myself to have two arrays and all of the text files in one array and the other array will contain a binary file that I can read say 1000 lines and send the pointer to the index of that binary file in a struct that contains the id, file pointer, and file position and let it crank through that. a little bit of what I am talking about pthread_create(&threads[index],NULL,calc_sqrt,(void *)threadFields[index]);//Pass struct to each worker Struct: typedef struct threadFields{ int *id, *position; FILE *Fin; }tField; If anyone has any insight or a better solution it would be greatly appreciated Thanks

• Large strings: Text files or SQL DB?

  I am coding a forum system using PHP. I am currently storing a threads ID, title, author, views and other attributes in an SQL database and then storing the thread body (the HTML and BBcode) in text files inside a folder named after the thread ID. In practise it's really simple to grab the database values then just grab the thread body from the text file, but I was wondering if this is the 'proper way'? I have personally no problems doing this but if it turns out it is massively inefficient and I should instead store both the thread body HTML and BBcode in the database instead then I will change. However, to me it seems wrong to store such a (very possibly) huge string of multi-line text along with lots of different characters in a database - I was taught that databases are more for short field 'values' rather than website content. I would just like a definitive answer to this because it's been bugging me for ages as to wherever I’ve been doing it properly. Does anyone know how popular forum systems store threads?
