My boss is wondering why not just upgrade to Visual Studio 2010 and not worry about updating TFS from 2008 to 2010. (VS2010 is compatable with TFS 2008.) Any input would be nice.

  • How can I use the SSRS ReportViewer from VS 2008 in a VS2010 project?

    Hi, I'm working on an ASP.NET MVC 2 / .NET 3.5 project which includes SSRS 2008 reports. After migrating to VS 2010 RC, the new web forms report viewer has been giving so much trouble that I'd like to use the old report viewer from VS 2008 again. Now I'm just wondering what would be the easiest way to do that. The report viewer is embedded in a Webforms ASPX file which is loaded in an IFrame by the the MVC view. Report parameters are currently stored as session variables, and for security reasons I would prefer not to change that for HTTP POST or GET parameters. So I can't just put the report viewer in a separate application and build that with VS2008. Moving the entire project back to VS 2008 is not an option. So, what's the easiest way for me to use the VS 2008 ReportViewer in VS 2010? Is there way to grab an assembly from VS 2008 and use that in my project? Thanks, Adrian

    Hello, I need to know wether or not to buy the VS 2010 premium or not. I have the database project working on my own version of vs 2008 team suite. My coworkers only have 2008 professional. We are moving to VS2010 now. We do not have MSDN licenses for our company right now. We are looking to buy just the VS2010 no MSDN. It is very pricey to get 6 of VS2010 premium. We need to get our database into source control. We are currently email scripts around, and it very difficult to keep track off. Are there any non-microsoft solutions that would be the same features and be free?

  • Any way to not break on certain errors in Visual Studio 2010?

    I'm working on a VS2010 project where I'm using DataAnnotations on my objects to handle validation. However, this is sort of a pain in the butt while trying to do interactive debugging because it keeps pausing VS.Net on validation errors. Obviously, I want to break on some errors, but not these particular types. Am I out of luck and I just need to turn on and off my Break on All Errors setting? Or is there some way to tell VS to just ignore these when they happen? (these are errors generated via Validator.ValidateProperty calls.) Thanks

    It was easy to check if VSTO 2005 SE was installed by just calling MsiGetProductInfo() with the product code {388E4B09-3E71-4649-8921-F44A3A2954A7}, as listed in MSDN. What is the product code for the VSTO 2010/4.0 runtime? Or is there a better way to determine if it's already installed? This is for our installation process. Thanks!     I find myself going to about five or six main places in my code 80% of the time and would like a way to go to them fast even if all files are closed. I would like to be able to open up a solution in visual studio and with no file open, see a list of self-labeled bookmarks like this: LoadNext Settings page refresh app.config connections app settings stringhelpers top stringhelpers bottom I click one of these and it opens that file and jumps to that position.     Wierd.... Late nite I installed Office 2010 Professional Plus. Here I am, the next morning, and Visual Studio 2008 is freezing, like there "was some invisible dialog window", because it doesn't allow me to click on any IDE element. In brief, after I open a ASP.MVC form, suddenly I'm not allowed to click on anything, icon, dock panel, toolbox, nothing... Anyone has this kind of problem?

    Visual Studio 2010 seems to insist on having this import in web application projects <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath32)\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" /> What does this import give us and is it really required? On a side note if you remove this import with a text editor Visual studio will re-add it. The reason i am asking is when the project is compiled on a build server that target does nor exists because visual studio is not installed.
