  Hi, I'm new to python, so please bare with me :) I was wondering if there's any built-in way in python to append variables to URL's regardless of it's structure. I would like to have a URL variable (test=1) added to an URL which could have any of the following structures http://www.aaa.com (would simply add "/?test=1") to the end http://www.aaa.com/home (like the one above, would simply add "/?test=1") to the end http://www.aaa.com/?location=home (would figure out there's already a ? being used, and would add &test=1 to the end) http://www.aaa.com/?location=home&page=1 (like the one above, would figure out there's already a ? being used, and would add &test=1 to the end) I'd be happy to write domething to do it myself, but if python can already do it somehow, I'd me more than happy to use any built-in functionality that would save me some time ;-) Thanks in advance

• How shared hostings, domain names and DNS work together?

  Hi, I 've this little doubt but I couldn't find information about it, probably because I'm not searching the correct thing. When a browser ask for "www.mydomain.com", the DNS server returns an IP Address, then the browser go there... but what does happen then? I mean, that IP address could be a shared hosting that contains hundreds of web pages and domains, so how does it knows where it have to go? Is something that the web server does? is it something that I could implement in a web application? I mean, for example I have a web application that contains accounts, and each account has a default web page. You could access that page passing the account namne, for example "www.mydomain.com/myaccount", but now I want to register "www.myaccount.com" and then it will get the "www.mydomain.com/myaccount" content. Is it possible? Kind regards.

  Hello to all, I'm working on a site where all the pages are actually index.php + a 'name' parameter that is analyzed and loads the appropriate template and content. the homepage url is: http://www.some_site.com/?page=homepage 1. i was asked to "change" the homepage url to: http://www.some_site.com can i use url rewite and htaccess for that and if so, what should i write there? working on my local machine, i tried this code (mode rewrite is enabled): <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteRule /index.php /index.php?page=homepage </IfModule> i would still need the 'name' parameter to be available to the php code of course, so i can load the template and css files. 2. it would be nice for other pages (not homepage) to be converted from (example) http://www.some_site.com/?page=products to: http://www.some_site.com/products this is less crucial. thanx in advance and have a nice day :-)

  I'm setting up some goals in Google Analytics and could use a little regex help. Lets say I have 4 URLs http://www.anydotcom.com/test/search.cfm?metric=blah&selector=size&value=1 http://www.anydotcom.com/test/search.cfm?metric=blah2&selector=style&value=1 http://www.anydotcom.com/test/search.cfm?metric=blah3&selector=size&value=1 http://www.anydotcom.com/test/details.cfm?metric=blah&selector=size&value=1 I want to create an expression that will identify any URL that contains the string selector=size but does NOT contain details.cfm I know that to find a string that does NOT contain another string I can use this expression: (^((?!details.cfm).)*$) But, I'm not sure how to add in the selector=size portion. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  Hi there, Having some trouble identifying what is wrong with my link to an external CSS stylesheet... I am using a debian box to host some things... including a file i am accessing page.py which is located in /var/www/cgi-bin. I need this page to link to a css file which currently has the pathname /var/www/styles.css. Now I know I could link as: <link rel="stylesheet" href="**../styles.css**" type="text/css"> and the problem is solved but I would rather have a 'global' link, that I can use in other py files elsewhere in my filesystem and they will all point to /var/www/styles.css The information I have searched suggests that <link rel="stylesheet" href="**/var/www/styles.css**" type="text/css"> should work fine... but it doesn't. I have tried multiple combinations of everything I know but it doesn't seem to link as I would expect. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

  Server 1 is connected to Server 2 via SSH. We know this: I can execute a command such as " ssh server2 "cp -rv /var/www /tmp" " which will copy the entire /var/www dir to /tmp. However inside of /var/www we have the following structure(sample LS output below) $ ls /web1 /web2 /web3 file1.php file2.php file3.php How can I execute a cp command that will exclude /web1, /web3, file1.php and file3.php (obviously just copying web2 and file2 is not an option since there are significantly more files than just 6)

• 301 redirect, conflicting with RewriteRule

  We did some maintenance today, and moved our web forums from /forums into the root folder of the domain. We put in a redirect 301 in a .htaccess file: Redirect 301 /forums/ http://www.ourforums.com/ However, we used to have some links that contained duplicate /forums folders. I.e. www.ourforums.com/forums/forums/forum.1 Obviously the redirect from above now leads to /forum.1, which odes not exist. I would like the old link to actually point to www.ourforums.com/boards/forum.1. I attempted to use something like: RewriteRule ^/forums/forums http://www.ourforums.com/boards/ [NC,R=301,L] Regardless of what I tried though, the Redirect seems to supersede any RewriteRules I put in the same file, regardless of whether I place them before the Redirect. Is there any way I can somehow ensure the RewriteRule is handled before the Redirect?

• Set up CakePHP in a subdirectory; Wordpress is installed in the root

  I have been searching for a solution for 2 hours but nothing seems to work... here is my problem: I have WordPress installed in the root (var/www). So by going to http://www.geekderek.com, I see my wordpress site. I put CakePHP in a subdirectory var/www/cakephp. I want to be able to see my CakePHP app by going to: www.geekderek.com/cakephp. However, currently this url just returns a Wordpress page saying "Content not found." I believe this problem can be solved by modifying .htaccess in my root directory. So here is my .htaccess: http://pastebin.com/sXJTRstB As you can see, I added this line to the default WP .htaccess file: RewriteRule ^cakephp(/(.*))?$ cakephp/app/webroot/$1 [QSA,L] However, for some reason this doesn't seem to work.   Hi guys, I've been struggling with a redirect where the final URL includes a query parameter that is an URL. It seems htaccess is escaping some characters. Here is my htaccess: Code: RewriteRule ^mypath http s://www.otherserver.com/cookie?param1=123&redirectto=http://otherserver2.com/&param2=1 [L,R=302] First, if I put Code: http s://www.otherserver.com/cookie?param1=123&redirectto=http://otherserver2.com/&param2=1 in my browser address bar, www.otherserver.com will do its thing and then redirect to otherserver2 (including the &param2=1 which is a parameter of that URL and not of the URL otherserver.com) That's the behaviour I need :-) Now when I try to use the htaccess redirect from my site: http://mysite/mypath; the behaviour is not the same then putting the same URL in the browser address bar; it now tries to redirect to http ://otherserver2.com/ (no param2=1 anymore). (ps: otherserver1 and otherserver2 are not under my control.) I've tried escaping the redirectto parameter in my htaccess, like below, but it didn't work either: Code: http s://www.otherserver.com/cookie?param1=123&redirectto=http%3a%2f%otherserver2.com%2f%3fparam2%3d1 Because then my browser tries to go to httpotherserver.com (all special characters are gone) In the end I would like to see http ://mysite/mypath to show the contents of Code: http s://www.otherserver.com/cookie?param1=123&redirectto=http://otherserver2.com/&param2=1 (preferred solution) or do a redirect to that URL. I hope my message is not to confusing, I hope someone can help me out; as I've already spent hours on this :-)

  I'm going to create a website using Wordpress static pages feature. It's going to have a menu for all the created pages. A blog is going to be created as well. This blog has a completely different layout/menu from the main site, but within the same domain: "http://www.domain.com" is the website url, and "http://www.domain.com/blog/" is the blog url. I was thinking of installing two different Wordpress instances: /var/www/public_html/ and /var/www/public_html/blog/. Although it's a simple solution, users are going to be duplicated: if you change password in one system, you need to change in the other. So, I would like to know from you which other approaches are possible: create a "dynamic" theme (call a theme when in root domain, another whern /blog - dont even know if this is possible), or for example a plugin to syncronize users from both instances? Does Wordpress MU solve this problem for me? Thanks!

  I want to assign dynamically the href value depending of certain things, I thing is important to mention that I have a Master Page, url routing and I am assigning absolute paths (like http://www.stackoverflow.com/questions/...). I've tried the following: <a href="<%= DynamicURL%>">testing urls</a> <asp:HyperLink runat="server" ID="hpLink">this teset brouw</asp:HyperLink> and in code behind hpLink.NavigateUrl = "http://www.someurl.com/morepath/morethisngs"; I have also tried this <a runat="server" id="aAccesories">Testing ...</a> and in code behind I do this: aAccesorios.HRef = "http://www.someurl.com/morepath/morethisngs"; what ever I try when I see the html source code the links render like this: http://localhost:10027/projectTest/\www.someurl.com/morepath/morethisngs so I cant create absolute paths or absolute URLS, doesnt matter what I tried, this is weird isnt it? i adds the domain to the urls and then it removes the http:// then it adds the path I wanted hope you can help me, thanks!
