• Directing from a 1und1 hosting solution, with urls intact

  I have done this before on GoDaddy without a hitch, but I cannot seem to figure out this particular case. I have a domain space with temporary url http://yogainun.mysubname.com/ and am hosting the domain name that is to be applied to it at 1und1.de. Right now I have set it up so that from the 1und1 domain name hosting the address http://www.yoga-in-unternehmen.de/ is frame redirected to the subdomain that I just referred to. But this is not what I want. http://www.yoga-in-unternehmen.de/ is to be the domain. With the frame redirect, url's like http://www.yoga-in-unternehmen.de/example-article do not show up. But this is what I want. With godaddy in a similar case, I just turned on DNS and changed the name servers. That worked without problem, but with 1und1 not. Is there something I am missing?

• Getting a domain sub-directory url for a new server

  I have an web application server running tomcat and i need to publish my APIs to internet users. However I don't have a domain name for this server and I can only put the ip address of this server (e.g. 145.XXX.XXX.XXX) to point out where my API xml files are located. I have another web server running with a domain name "http://www.webserver.com" registered on the internet and I want to make use of its domain name to server my web application server API xml files location. How can I do that? using "www.webserver.com/api" or using "api.webserver.com"? which is better? Also I wonder if I want to publish a "rstp://145.XXX.XXX.XXX" web link for video streaming purpose, can I use "rstp://www.webserver.com/api" to replace it and how to do it? I always thought the url contain domain sub-directory name cannot point to another IP address, it only can point to another folder location on the webserver itself.

• Broken links in content reports when tracking subdomains with Google Analytics

  I have a tracking code that I use on my main site and my blog, which is on a subdomain: www.example.com blog.example.com I have a single profile in Google Analytics. I use advanced segments to look at traffic to the main site vs. traffic to the blog. Problem 1: When I'm browsing my content reports under Standard Reporting, the "Page" column doesn't show the top-level or sub-domain, so I can't differentiate www.example.com/index.html from blog.example.com/index.html easily. According to the docs, this filter is supposed to make GA prepend the hostname to the page URL in your content reports, but it doesn't seem to work. Problem 2: When I click on the little "Open in new window" icon next to a given page in a content report line, it always assumes the page lives on www.example.com, so I get 404s when the page is actually on blog.example.com. Is there a good solution for these subdomain tracking problems?

• Migrating Ruby on Rails Website to New Server (Linux)

  I have an existing website that is a Ruby on Rails project. I have another server i need to transfer the existing website too. The server i wish to transfer too was originally hosting the website so has the necessary gems/configuration are installed. I have tar the current releases shared dir from the old server and transfered them over to the new server. I have then unpack the tar in the apps directory to the new location which is a different URL path. My problem is now as you can see below that the path on the current - is pointing to the old url. • How do I word my url so that it doesn't get blocked or appear spammy

  I'm creating a fairly large site. Will my links appear spammy if I use the same word as in the pathfile in the url? For example: www.example.com/apples/great-apple-recipes www.example.com/apples/fresh-apple-pie www.example.com/apples/delicious-apple-turnovers I do not want my link to appear spammy. But is it ok if the keyword is almost always the same as in the pathfile on a huge site? Does the pathfile count as part of the keyword? Also, how many words in total should a url (including pathfile etc...) be?

• Website falsely blocked because of spam. Does anyone know how we should proceed?

  I'm responsible for ICT at FOS Open Scouting, a belgian scouting organisation. Our website was hacked a few years back and blocked by Facebook as a result. After we regained control over the site Facebook continued to block our domain and this is causing us a number of problems. We have tried many times in the past year to contact Facebook using their 'I am blocked from adding content' form (https://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=block_appeal) to no avail. The blocked URLs are: http://www.fos.be and http://www.fosopenscouting.be Does anyone know how we should/could proceed?

• SOLVED BleachBit: How to Completely Clear URL History in Firefox?

  14.04 / Firefox 29.0 I've been using Bleachbit to clear usage/file history, and for the most part it works great. However, it doesn't seem to clear the website hostnames out of the URL, at all. These addresses are not bookmarked. Also, the total URL isn't preserved, just the hostname. Visit site http://www.bluesnews.com/some_random_URL_string Exit Firefox Run Bleachbit, with ALL Firefox options selected Restart Firefox Check history: completely empty, other than bookmarked sites. www.bluesnews is NOT bookmarked Type "blue" which is Firefox automatically completes as "http://www.bluesnews.com/" Alternate Step #3: Use Firefox's built-in "Clear History" and select ALL entries with a time frame of "Everything". Same result as above. My inquiry in BB forums hasn't been responded to. I found Dan's proposed solution, however changing autocomplete in about:config only turns off the function, it doesn't actually stop storing URLs. • E-commerce + CMS: 2 sites or one?

  Ok, let's say that a customer already has a CMS managed web site but now wants to sell goods online using an E-commerce platform (Magento in this case). My question is, does it make any difference between choosing to have just one site running both CMS and E-commerce (www.mycompany.com, or to have one site for the CMS (www.mycompany.com) and another (www.mycompany-shop.com) for E-commerce? I'd like to know the pros and cons of these approaches, so that I can advice the customer for the best. --EDIT I forgot to say that I'd prefer to have 2 separated web sites. This way I shouldn't have to learn how to integrate them together (one in Python, the other in PHP).

• How to prevent a 404 Error when installing a subdomain using a wordpress multi-site installation

  I have installed a multi-site instillation of WordPress onto my domain. I then added the necessary code to the wp-config.php file and .htaccess as instructed by WordPress. I also installed a plugin called Quick Page/Post Redirect Plugin which allowed me to place a 301 redirect onto the main domain as I only want to use the sub domain and not the main domain. Then I also added the following line of code to the wp-config.php file to redirect the main domain define( 'NOBLOGREDIRECT', 'URL Redirect Address' ); The site works fine with a redirect on the main domain and my subdomain runs fine when you type in subdomain.domain.com or http://subdomain.domain.com. However when I enter www.subdomain.domain.com or http://www.subdomain.domain.com the following error message is returned: Not Found The requested URL / was not found on this server. Apache/2.4.9 (Unix) Server at www.subdomain.domain.com Port 80 Any help with this would be much appreciated.

  When I try to connect my Google account, the following happens: I open "Online Accounts" - the Google account appears in the left hand margin. When I highlight it, I am invited to grant access. • Accented characters representation in the URL

  We have support for various languages in our website, including Spanish, French and Swedish. For now, the links in the site are NOT encoded before sent to the browser, sending the real accented chars (if such exists, i.e. href="www.(dot)example(dot)com/héllo.html") and not their HEX representation. This works & looks good on all browsers, including Chrome, FF and IE. However, we care great deal about SEO. We got this tip that encoding the links before sending them to the browser (so instead of linking to http://www.example.com/héllo, we will link to http://www.example.com/h%E9llo) will improve the way search engines will 'understand' the links and the keywords in the URL. This involves some work at our side, so we wanted to know if there's truth in that tip, but couldn't find anything addressing this issue.

However, when clicking on the link from my newsletter, I am redirected to the login page, even though I am logged in, and after logging in, I am sent to my profile page and the share is not posted.

• Do subdomains need to be defined through domain registrar?

  I have bought a new domain name from GoDaddy. Let's say it is abcd.com. On GoDaddy's DNS Managing page, I changed A(Host) part to @ = 74.125.232.215 which is www.google.co.uk's IP address. Now if I type www.abcd.com, it directly goes to www.google.co.uk. But if I type http://test.abcd.com, it cannot be loaded. Do I need to define every subdomain through GoDaddy? Is this how it works? P.S. Amazon EC2 directly generates a subdomain for users to reach their virtual PCs. It cannot be domain registrar dependant. P.S.2. Same question for using "www2" at the start of url.

• SSL issue and redirects from https to http

  I have a site www.example.com for which i purchased SSL cert and installed. And it was working fine, I also have a subdomain with app.example.com which was not on SSL. Both www.example.com and app.example.com are on same IP address. At later we decided to put SSL only on app.frostbox.com and then i configured SSL with app.frostbox.com and it worked fine, Now the issue is that Google is indexing my site as https://www.example.com/ and when users hits the web , Invalid security warning is issued and when user allow security issue they are shown my app.example.com contents. Note: I have my SSL configuration files in /etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf The contents of the ssl.conf are below. http://pastebin.com/GCWhpQJq NOTE: I tried solutions in .httaccess but none of those worked.   I have Ubuntu 12.04 with BIND9, working just as a caching server (forwarding to 8.8.8.8). When I use, for example, dig +norecurse @l.root-servers.net www.uniroma1.it, I obtain the following output ; << DiG 9.8.1-P1 << +norecurse @l.root-servers.net www.uniroma1.it ; (1 server found) ;; global options: +cmd ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached Using Wireshark I discovered that the outgoing queries are correct, but there aren't any incoming answers. Why? P.S. Using simply dig www.uniroma1.it I obtain the correct answers.

• Why isn't this simple CRON job working?

  I am on Ubuntu server and would like to send an email to myself every 10 minutes (as a test). The code for that is in this file: /var/www/cron-test.php To set up the cron I typed: crontab -e and added this line to the bottom of the file using nano editor: ### email me every 10 min. */10 * * * * /var/www/cron-test.php But that script is not running every 10 minutes. I only recieve the email if I load the PHP script directly in my browser. The cron doesn't seem to be executing at all. What am I doing wrong? Also this is my first time setting up a cron so putting the cron script in my www folder is probably not a good idea, should I put it elsewhere? If so where? Also is there a cron error log? Where all failed crons can be seen?

  I am having a site www.example.com which working fine and I have a number of sub-domains which are working fine except one. When I gave the url subdomain.example.com the address bar showing as below subdomain.example.com --> www.subdomain.example.com/mysubdomains/devsitename It added the www and the /mysubdomain/devsitename which is my hosted directory in my server. Then it came up with the website you were looking for is unavailable. Has anyone experienced this issue? Do you know how to resolve this?

  Currently i'm migrating www. prefix from my urls and use htaccess to do the job. Since we have new software and cleaned database some of the old urls doesnt exists anymore. Therefore some requests redirect to 404 page. 1. www.domain.com/old-page # htaccess redirect to non-www url, 301 2. domain.com/old-page # page does not exists, 404 Does this method have any SEO issues, or even affect pagerank? Or should i check the page existence before redirecting and show 404 without redirect?
