    I am creating a JButton which includes a specific ImageIcon. The main issue is that the original icon size is much bigger than the button size. As result when the button is displayed, only part of the icon can be seen. What is the method that "resize" an ImageIcon i n order to make it fit inside a JButton?

  • How to execute maven tasks in eclipse (Sonatype plugin)

    Hi all I know it must be something simple, but I just can't figure it out.. I'm using the Sonatype maven plugin on eclipse. When I want to build a war file for a webapp project, the only way I know to do it is to use the command line and type mvn package. I've looked all through the right click menu and I can't find any way to do it from eclipse. There's a maven submenu that seems to have no options to do with building, and there's a run menu that doesn't seem right - I don't want to run my project - I just want to build it. There is a maven build option in the run menu, but if I run it, a configuration window pops up for me to enter goals in.. How I do I just do a simple mvn package, but through gui? What am I missing? Thanks!

    I am running a hadoop code that has a partitioner class inside the job. But, when I run the command hadoop jar Sort.jar SecondarySort inputdir outputdir I am getting a runtime error that says class KeyPartitioner not org.apache.hadoop.mapred.Partitioner. I have ensured that the KeyPartitioner class has extended the Partitioner class, but why am I getting this error?   • Should I put actors in the Domain-Model/Class-Diagram?

    When designing both the domain-model and class-diagrams I am having some trouble understanding what to put in them. I'll give an example of what I mean: I am doing a vacations scheduler program, that has an Administrator and End-Users. The Administrator does a couple of things like registering End-Users in the program, changing their previleges, etc. The End-User can choose his vacations days, etc. I initially defined an Administrator and End-User as concepts in the domain-model, and later as classes in the class-diagram. In the class-diagram, both classes ended up having a couple of methods like Administrator.RegisterNewUser(); Administrator.UnregisterUser(int id); etc. Only after some time I realised that actually both Administrator and End-User are actors, and maybe I got this design totally wrong. Instead of filling Administrator and End-User classes with methods to do what my Use-Cases request, I could define other classes from the domain to do them, and have controllers handle the Use-Cases(actually, I decided to do one for each Use-Case). I could have a UserDatabase.RegisterNewUser() and UserDatabase.UnregisterUser(int id);, for example, instead of having those methods on the Administrator class. The idea would be to try to think of the whole vacation-scheduler as a "closed-program" that has a set of features and doesn't bother with things such as authentication, that should be internal/protected, being that the only public things I'd let the outside world see would be its controllers. Is this the right approach? Or am I getting this totally wrong? Is it generally bad idea to put Actors in the domain-model/class-diagrams? What are good rules of thumb for this? My lecturer is following Applying UML and Patterns, which I find awful, so I'd like to know where I could look up more info on this described actor-models situation. I'm still a bit confused about all of this, as this new approach is radically different from anything I've done before.

During the profiling, I discovered that this very method call, Class<T>.isAssignableFrom(Class<?> cls) takes up to quite amount of the entire time. Because this is a method from reflection, it takes a lot of time compared to normal keywords or method calls. I am wondering if there are some good alternatives for this method calls?

    I have a listview called quotesList, and I am trying to use an adapter to put information in it. Here is my code: ListView listView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.quotesList); String[]values={"Android","iOS","Windows Phone","Other Stuff"}; ArrayAdapter<String> adapter=new ArrayAdapter<String>(this,android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, android.R.id.text1,values); listView.setAdapter(adapter); The only error that Eclipse shows is in the listView.setAdapter(adapter) line. The bold represents where the red squiggly is. Syntax error on token "adapter", VariableDeclaratorId expected after this token The period after listView gives an error as well, but I'm pretty sure its just related to the other error, as its a syntax error. Syntax error on token(s), misplaced construct(s) Thanks in advance!

    I need to access some constants in my jsp, and sadly the EL does not offer any functionality for it. There are some options like the unstandard tag library, but I'd like to keep it a bit more standard. I tried: <%@ page import = "com.jackdane.Constants"%> <c:if test="${object.display == '<%=com.jackdane.Constants.YES %>}'"> //some display logic </c:if> But that doesn't appear to do the trick. It's been a while since I've used an expression so I might have made an error. Any input is appreciated. Edit: To clarify, the constants class is not in my control. It's inside a jar file that I recieved. It contains no getters/setters. Just private static final Strings.

    Hi gents, We all know that in order to invoke Object.wait() , this call must be placed in synchronized block,otherwise,IllegalMonitorStateException is thrown.But what's the reason for making this restriction?I know that wait() releases the monitor, but why do we need to explicitly acquire the monitor by making particular block synchronized and then release the monitor by calling wait() ? What is the potential damage if it was possible to invoke wait() outside synch block, retaining it's semantics - suspending the caller thread ? Thanks in advance

    I've been having troubles trying to figure out how to solve a function. I've been assigned the development of a little programme which tells if a number is "triangular" (a number is triangular when the addition of certain consecutive numbers in the [1,n] interval is n. Following the definition, the number 10 is triangular, because in the [1,10] interval, 1+2+3+4=10). As I see the function, it goes like this: I state that the input number in the initial state isn't triangular (triangular=false) and i=n (determining the interval [1,i] where the function is going to be evaluated While n is greater or equals 0 and the number isn't triangular, the loop starts The loop goes like this: if the addition of all the numbers in the [1,i] interval is n, the number is triangular, causing the loop to end. If that statement is false, i goes from i to (i-1), starting the loop again with that particular interval, and so on till the addition is n. I can't spot the error in my "algorithm", any advice?     In my program I frequently need to print various JComponents (generally JPanels) and I like them to be full-page. The way I do it now is by using the following code: g2d.scale(pf.getImageableWidth()/componentToPrint.getWidth(), pf.getImageableHeight()/componentToPrint.getHeight()); but this often stretches or otherwise deforms whatever I am trying to print, and I would much prefer to do something that re-sized intelligently, perhaps a functional version of: componentToPrint.setSize(pf.ImageableWidth(), pf.ImageableHeight); or say adding the component into a new JFrame and then setting the frame size (problem is components can't exist in two place at once). I wouldn't care if the resizing would make the rest of the GUI look terrible, as long as it is something that can easily be reset. Is there any way to do this?

  • How to debug JBoss out of memory problem?

    Hello, I am trying to debug a JBoss out of memory problem. When JBoss starts up and runs for a while, it seems to use memory as intended by the startup configuration. However, it seems that when some unknown user action is taken (or the log file grows to a certain size) using the sole web application JBoss is serving up, memory increases dramatically and JBoss freezes. When JBoss freezes, it is difficult to kill the process or do anything because of low memory. When the process is finally killed via a -9 argument and the server is restarted, the log file is very small and only contains outputs from the startup of the newly started process and not any information on why the memory increased so much. This is why it is so hard to debug: server.log does not have information from the killed process. The log is set to grow to 2 GB and the log file for the new process is only about 300 Kb though it grows properly during normal memory circumstances. This is information on the JBoss configuration: JBoss (MX MicroKernel) 4.0.3 JDK 1.6.0 update 22 PermSize=512m MaxPermSize=512m Xms=1024m Xmx=6144m This is basic info on the system: Operating system: CentOS Linux 5.5 Kernel and CPU: Linux 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5 on x86_64 Processor information: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5420 @ 2.50GHz, 8 cores This is good example information on the system during normal pre-freeze conditions a few minutes after the jboss service startup: Running processes: 183 CPU load averages: 0.16 (1 min) 0.06 (5 mins) 0.09 (15 mins) CPU usage: 0% user, 0% kernel, 1% IO, 99% idle Real memory: 17.38 GB total, 2.46 GB used Virtual memory: 19.59 GB total, 0 bytes used Local disk space: 113.37 GB total, 11.89 GB used When JBoss freezes, system information looks like this: Running processes: 225 CPU load averages: 4.66 (1 min) 1.84 (5 mins) 0.93 (15 mins) CPU usage: 0% user, 12% kernel, 73% IO, 15% idle Real memory: 17.38 GB total, 17.18 GB used Virtual memory: 19.59 GB total, 706.29 MB used Local disk space: 113.37 GB total, 11.89 GB used
