  • No headphone or speakers plugged in - Windows 7 issue

    I am facing a wierd issue between my sound card driver and Windows7(any edition). I have a sony vaio notebook (VPCEB24EN). Two days ago, on start I got diabled wifi, charging and speakers. Then I restart the PC and everthing worked fine. Later on I again restarted my machine, and then I found the my speakers were not working. I thought, restart will work. I restarted many more times but it did'nt work. I searched google and found that , it might be due to : 1. Hardware is not switched on from bios. 2. No hardware. 3. overriding 64-bit drivers with 32-bit drivers. To make it working, I restored my laptop from scratched, but while restoring pc, the realtek HD drivers, it gave me an error 505. I then formatted the drive and installed Win7 Ultimate 32bit (With PC was, Win7 64-bit Home Basic). I got lots of yellow exclamation in device manager, thinking now this will resolve my issue. But Even after the installing all drivers on a fresh installation, I was still with the same position. A red cross on speaker- No Speakers or Headphone plugged in. Please Note: My Laptop is Vaio , E Series, VPCEB24EN. Audio : Intel® High Definition Audio compatible but accepts Realted Audio. While using BIOS Agent, I got Intel Chipset 5 Series Audio Adapter and ATI RV370 Audio adapter found on my board. Installed is Win7 32bit Ultimate. factory default was Win7 64-bit Home Basic Memory: RAM 3GB/ 320GB HDD Display : ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5145 Graphics

  • Windows Media Center doesn't see my movies

    I am trying to configure my Windows Media Center (Windows 7 Ultimate). I selected folder with my movies and added it to the library, but when I went to the movies library, it says "There are no items in this library yet - Windows Media Center is searching for media files in the background...". I have all necessary codecs installed, Windows Media Player opens those movies correctly. When I right click on the file - Open with - Windows Media Center it also plays them without any problem. Any ideas why they don't appear in the libraries? Edit: Movies are coded with divx and xvid codecs and they have ".avi" extension. Windows doesn't have problems playing them. I told Media Center where the files are. I even pointed Windows Media Center to a folder with only one .avi file it still couldn't find anything there. (I have given it quiet some time, even though searching in the directory with only one file shouldn't take more than a few seconds.) When I add a folder with a lot of movies, I get a dialog box "You can wait while media is added or select OK to continue using Windows Media Center.".                                                                        At the end it says it added about 90 movies, but when I go to the libraries, it's still empty.

    I'd like to have an hg hook that sends email using a gmail account. Is what I'm trying to do possible, or will setuid not propagate to commands executed from a shell script? System is Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS.

I know the latest version is 5.xx... but apparently with some new software we're having installed we have to use version 4 After a bit of googling i can see that the latest version is... Build 4.1.10329.0 Released May 8, 2012 We have a mix of Win7 64-bit machines and WinXP 32-bit machines. Q: Is there a different version for each OS or the same one fits all. (This seems strangely hard to decipher by googling) Q: Does anyone know where i can download the latest version 4? Microsoft do not seem to offer it anymore unless i'm just not finding it.     I have two local machines connected to each other via wired ethernet and one of those machines is also connected to a wifi network which provides internet access. A pseudo-graphical representation of the topology is as follows: (PC2)----------(PC1)---------(Wifi Gateway) 192.168.2.x 10.0.0.x The configuration on PC2 is: iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.2.2 network 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.2.1 ...and the configuration on PC1 is: iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.2.1 network 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.2.1 On PC1, I've added a default route for wlan0 as I couldn't access the internet otherwise: route add default gw 10.0.0.1 wlan0 And also tried setting the gateway for the 192.168.2.x network using: route add -net 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 10.0.0.1 But I still can't access internet from PC2. Edit I don't have access to the wifi gateway.

  • router only assigns small number of IPs

    Been having a problem with my router for a while now, might just be because it is really old but here's the problem: If a lot of computers are connected to my home network someone will get disconnected. They are assigned IPs and it seems like at a certain point (and I don't know how many) you either get assigned the same IP as someone else or something else is happening and you get disconnected - until i soft reset it and it works again which takes 30 secs. I'd say my tablet, my PC, my sisters iPad, 2 laptops and a netbook is the most that can be connected at one time so that is 6 but that should be fine. The only way I know this is the problem is because I turned on my tablet and I was online on my PC, got disconnected but my tablet was still connected, this is just after i turned the tablet on so I know my router is having difficulty with IPs, it is like it assigned the same IP to the tablet which then clashed with my desktop and knocked me off. I see that sometimes the following solves it as well so I wrote a batch file with a menu to execute these commands as I have to do it so often. ipconfig /release ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /renew Any ideas? Or shall I just get a new router as this one is old and maybe can't handle giving out that many IPs? Cheers!

  • Quad channel memory and compatibility

    My motherboard has quad channel memory compatibility. There are 8 memory slots in all: 4 slots are black the other 4 slots are white. I currently have 4 memory modules of 1 GB each in the 4 white slots. That leaves me with 4 free memory slots. My question is: can I put 4 memory modules of 2 GB each in the 4 remaining slots or do I have to use modules of 1 GB all over?     In general, and understanding the answer may vary by manufacturer and model (and driver, and...), in consumer-grade workstations with integrated NICs, does the NIC rely on the CPU for a lot of help (as is typically the case with a USB controller, for instance), or is it fairly intelligent and capable on its own (like, say, the typical Firewire controller)? Or is the question too general to answer? (If it matters, you can assume Linux.) Background: I'm looking at connecting a device (digital television capture) that will be delivering ~20-50 Mbit/sec of data to a somewhat under-powered workstation. I can get a USB 2 High-speed device, or a network-attached device, and am interested in avoiding impacting the CPU where possible. Obviously, if it's a 100Mbit NIC, that's roughly half its theoretical inbound bandwidth, whereas it's only roughly a tenth of the 480 Mbit/second the USB 2 "High Speed" interface. But if the latter requires a lot of CPU support and the former doesn't...

  • External mouse clicks not working during UAC prompt/windows or other elevated privilege programs

    I have a Logitech Revolution VX, a small portable mouse. I use it on my laptop running Windows 7 64bit Professional. When a UAC prompt comes up, I can use the mouse to move the pointer, however any clicking via the external mouse is disabled. I have to use my trackpad to actually click. This continues on into whatever UAC window comes next, such as a program install. The mouse pointer can move via my external mouse, but no button clicks register except on the trackpad. This also happens if I am to right click a program and select "Run as Administrator". The external mouse will move the pointer, but no button clicks work. I've tried to google for this issue but haven't found anything. To be it seems generally a problem with my external mouse driver not running with elevated privileges itself. Any help would be appreciated.

I can connect to the web server and I can set all the network related settings, but that's not what I want. There should be a supplies, config, print info, etc. page, what are not visible now. Can you tell me what setting should I set to enable this printer config page on the webserver? The printer is a HP 4100N and the network card is J4169A (Jetdirect 610n).

The actual data line looks good and is antialiased in a nice way but when I then add a trendline it is jagged and ugly: I have tried "all" options available under Format Trendline, to no avail. There is an option "Soft Edges" but it doesn't seem to work as expected: when I increase the value there the trend line gets more and more narrow until it disappears.

    I use to receive tar.gz files fromm colleagues but unpacking them with 7zip is not convenient as it unpacks a tar file from gz first while I usually seek to get the tar file contents (so I have to unpack the tar file explicitly next). I've tried adding tar -zxvf %P%N command to Total Commander button bar but it turned that tar -zxvf doesn't work but returns the following error (tried it in bare command prompt): tar: Cannot fork: Function not implemented tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now I have got both GnuWin32 and cygwin installed, but I seek a solution that will work in Windows command line promt (and so will be callable from Totat Commander), not in cygwin command line promt.

It's all working fine except for local DNS lookups for Windows machines only. I have a mix of Ubuntu, CentOS and Windows machines on the network, some virtual, some physical.     I've just received an upgraded Host machine, and am looking to push some of those advances to my workstations Guest OS(s). In particular, I used to have a single processor, with 2 cores, so my Guest OS only had 1/1. Now, I've got a single processor with 8 cores, so I'm curious about what would be recommended for my Guest OS now? 1 processor/4 cores? 2 processors/2 cores? 4 processors/1 core? My instinct says to stick with the number of physical processors (or less), but, is that based on reality? I spent a good while looking for an answer to this, but perhaps my google-karma isn't in my favor today.

    I want wget to prefer a certain filetype over another, if the files have the same basename. For example: if foo.ogg available, don't download foo.mp3 the way i use wget so far to crawl/automatically download (if anyone is interested): wget -Dfoo.com -I /folder/ -r -l 1 -nc -A.ogg,.mp3 -i http://www.foo.com/folder/ but this, of course, gets me .mp3 AND .ogg files. It often also gets me image files like .png which i didn't want in the first place, and discards them afterwards. Any Ideas? (Syntax-Explanation: -D: download only from this Domain -I: download only from this subfolder of Domain -r: recursive (follow links and directory structure) -l 1: follow only 1 link deep -nc: no clobber = download only if file doesn't exist -A: accept/download only all *.ogg and *.mp3 (discard necessary html-files) -i: download-url/starting point)

But did anyone test this? Scenario 1 : Separate hard disk FAT32 (small volume) Scenario 2 : Separate hard disk NTFS which one will win? minimum gain?

    I installed the Ubuntu desktop on a Ubuntu 9.10 VPS server and am able to connect to the server using TightVNC. However, the VNC server on this VPS can only be started by logging in through SSH and typing the following command: vncserver :1 -geometry 800x600 -depth 16 -pixelformat rgb565 If I run this command on startup or as a schedule task, it won't start.
