• Where can I get an Adobe Flash Page Curl / Flip / Peel Effect tutorial?

  I currently work on a brochure in InDesign. I export as an SWF and apply a page curl effect to it when publishing so I can put it online. It's great. However, I now want to take the brochure to the next level and make each page interactive. To do this I export from InDesign as an XFL (flash format). This gets the brochure into Flash, with each page on a separate frame. I can now make the page interactive; this is also great! All I need to do now is create the page flip effect again, because when you export to XFL you cannot embed a page flip effect on it. The trouble is I can't find a tutorial anywhere for creating this effect. Anyone know where I can find one?

• Script to move specific user folders in Windows 7

  Hi there. When I install Windows Vista/7, I move some of my user folders onto a new partition (i.e. Documents, Musics, Pictures, etc.). This does not include moving the whole User directory, just some of the data folders. %AppData% remains in it's default location (%SystemDrive%\Users). I'm getting tired of manually moving each of these folder's by changing their location under the properties dialog. Does anyone know of a way that I can script this to apply to the folders that I wish?

  I'm using HP DL360p Gen8 + Windows Server 2008 R2 for HFT trading. That means that every 10 microseconds is important for me. I do understand that if I need everything to be so fast I probably should consider using Linux. But in this post I want to compare only Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012. I've found in internet couple articles that suggest how to tune Windows Server 2012 for low latency http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/hardware/jj248719 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831415.aspx Most part of optimizations from these articles apply only to Windows Server 2012 and can not be used on Windows Server 2008 R2. So now I think that as I can optimize Windows Server 2012 for low latency, probaly I should upgrade? After optimizations how much faster windows server 2012 would be (ideally in microseconds :)?

• Installing multiple php versions plus extensions on freebsd

  I'm a currently learning how to work with freebsd. Lately I have been trying to run multiple php versions along with their respective packages. However, I seem to be running into issues while making installations. The default location for my php installation is /usr/local/etc/, however I want to be able to install php5.2, php5.3 and php5.4 in /usr/local/etc/php52, /usr/local/etc/php53 and /usr/local/etc/php54 respectively. Using ports I simply achieved this by doing cd /usr/ports/lang/php5x && make PREFIX="/usr/local/etc/php5x" install clean. The problem now is: How do I do the same for extensions of all my PHP versions? When I try installing php-extensions like so: cd /usr/ports/lang/php5x-extension && make PREFIX="/usr/local/etc/php5x/lib/php" install clean, I get this error ... ===> PHPizing for php53-bcmath-5.3.17 env: /usr/local/bin/phpize: No such file or directory *** Error code 127 Stop in /usr/ports/math/php53-bcmath. *** Error code 1 Stop in /usr/ports/lang/php53-extensions. My PHPize is located in /usr/local/etc/php5x/bin/phpize So how do I get make or whatever to look for phpize in the right path? Is there a cleaner, may be simpler way of maintaining multiple php installations? I need to achieve this because of compatibility issues from some legacy code that runs on 5.2 and breaks on 5.3. • Get rid of Vista security warning

  I found this question. The question exactly matches my problem, but the solution doesn't work. In the Properties window, I see "Security: This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer. ((Unblock))". When I click Unblock and Apply, the Security section disappears. But when I go to run it again, I still get the security warning. If I right-click and choose Properties on the exact same thing, the Security section is back, offering me the chance to Unblock it again. So unblock seems exactly as useless as the "Always ask" checkbox. Anyone seen this before? How do you really Unblock an app that Vista doesn't want to let you Unblock?

• Samba Domain Controller corrupts Windows workstations profiles?

  Oooooook, so here's my problem. I have a Mac OS X Server 10.5 to which Windows XP workstations are bound. I happened upon some errors and warnings in my log, from Userenv. Namely, error 1504, 1509. The warning complains that some setting on the share about offline caching. I found some guides to correct this if the problem was referring to a Windows server, but since those are Samba shares, the guide of course doesn't apply. Does anyone know what to do so that my profiles don't corrupt, and I still can use roaming profiles so that they're backed up by the server?

• Growing the size of a VM's disk in VMware

  I have a VM that I originally gave 10 GB to (using VMware workstation, and Ubuntu 11.10 is the guest OS). I now wish to add to that. I have seen the option to expand the disk size, but all that does is create a new "partition" that Ubuntu can see. Is there a way to expand the size of the primary partition that the guest OS is using? NOTE: I have seen something regarding doing this for a regular Ubunbu OS that requires a boot disk. Is there a way that I can apply that to this VM case? Using Windows 7 64-bit as the host OS EDIT: To be clear, I am trying to resize the boot partition. Edit 2: GParted's resize option is greyed out.

  Hello! I have a server with two 1.5TB hard drives. I was going to install a Windows Server 2008 R2 and create software RAID1 using Windows Disk Management Utility. I instaleld Windows, open this console and that is what I see: http://i.imgur.com/KoC9a.png Setup program created a System Reserved Partition at my second HDD. I don't understand now, how can I create RAID1, because space, which supposed to be used for copy of disk C, now is used for this hidden partition. So is there any way now to create correct RAID1? May it is possible to move this partition to the Disk 0, where I have plenty of free space? Unfortunately I can't reinstall Windows and apply other options at the disk management step of the installation, because installation image is not longer connected to the server and I have no physical access to server, only remote desktop.

  Basically I want him to only be able to log onto the VPN in order to use Remote Desktop to use HIS machine. Not surf the internet or do anything like that, but just use the programs on his machine that he doesn't have at home. We use a Sonicwall NSA 220 with their regular VPN client. I can create a user for him, but when I create an access rule it applies to all VPN users. How can I make something like that only apply to ONE user?

• Make mysqldump output USE statements or full table names when dumping a single table with where clause

  Is it possible to get mysqldump to output USE statements for a single (partial) table dump? I've already got some scripts that I'd like to reuse which run mysqldump with some arguments and apply them to a remote server. However, since I haven't bothered to parse all the arguments to mysqldump, and there is no USE in the dump, the remote server is saying no database selected. I'm a programmer more than anything else, so I can easily use sed to modify the dump before applying it in the worst case, but those scripts won't allow me to do this as I don't have access to the dump between creation and application. EDIT: the ability to output fully qualified table names may also solve my problem

• Disabling horizontal scrolling using mouse wheel

  Hello, I am using Windows 7 x64 on an iMac (via BootCamp) with the button-less Magic Mouse that comes with the iMac. I would like to disable the horizontal scrolling that happens when you move slightly the finger horizontally while doing a vertical scrolling. In the Control Panel, Mouse section, Wheel tab, Horizontal Scrolling section, the minimum value that you can enter is 1, not 0. Is there a way (in the Registry) to disable horizontal scrolling using the mouse wheel? Or to set that value to 0 to see if it does the trick? Notice that this is a Windows specific question, not Mac OSX or Apple or Magic Mouse question, it can apply to any mouse in Windows whose wheel supports horizontal scrolling apart from vertical scrolling.

• Applying memory limits to screen sessions

  You can set memory usage limits for standard Linux applications in: /etc/security/limits.conf Unfortunately, I previously thought these limits only apply to user applications and not system services. This means that users can by bypass their limits by launching applications through a system service such as screen. I'd like to know if it's possible to let users use screen but still enforce application limits. Jeff had the great idea of using nohup which obeys user limits (wonderful!), but I would still like to know if it's possible to mimic the useful windowing features of screen. EDIT: It seems my screen sessions are now obeying my hard address space limits defined in /etc/security/limits.conf. I must have been making some mistake. • Dell R510 vs R710

  Hello, the Dell R510 and R710 can both hold regular configurations (e.g. X5650, 24 GB RAM, etc.) and these usually come out to about the same price. Is there a particular reason why one would choose the R510 over the R710 or vice versa? There really appears a lack of differentiating factors. The only 'major' factor I found, which doesn't apply to me though, is that the R510 can hold up to 12 3.5in HDDs while the R710 (which is slightly more expensive) can only hold up to 6 3.5in HDDs. Maybe you guys have some input and bought either of these machines (or both) to shed some light on other differences and why someone should choose one over the other as the pricing is pretty much the same with my configuration. • Cannot resize OS X partition

  I am trying to resize my existing Mac OS Extended partition on my Macbook to install Windows 7 (using steps similar to these), but when ever I go to apply the changes, I get this error: Partition failed Partition failed with the error: The partition cannot be resized. Try reducing the amount of change in the size of the partition. The total capacity of the hard drive in question is 260GB, with the entirety being taken up by the OS X boot partition. There is I am aiming to shrink that partition down to 60GB. How can I fix this problem? I have been reducing the amount of change by 10GB each attempt, but it still is not working. I assume the problem is that there is not a large amount of continuous space on the device. Is there some way to can do a manual defrag that would rectify this problem?

• Setup VLAN agnostic ports on HP ProCurve 1810G (Ingress Filter, Trunking)

  I am wondering if it is possible to configure some ports of the web managed ProCurve Switch 1810G to participate in all VLAN traffic. Even if no VLAN with that ID has been set up inside the switch. The issue is that I have two virtualization servers that will use yet unknown VLANs of a certain range to communicate with each other. But the range is much larger than the 64 supported VLANs this switch can manage. The switch also offers static and LACP Link Trunks. But I guess there will also apply the Ingress Filter that drops packets with unconfigured VLAN IDs? A separate unmanaged switch that connects the two hosts and one ProCurve Port would work, but maybe I do not have to? Thanks

• AT&T U-verse 2Wire Router - Increase session table limit?

  AT&T U-verse VDSL "fiber to the node" 24Mbit down / 3Mbit up 2Wire Router Model 3800HGV-B Software Version 6.1.9.24-enh.tm The 2Wire router appears to have a limit of 1024 TCP and UDP sessions. This limit appears to apply to all sessions regardless of any static IP, firewall off, DMZ plus, secondary router configurations. I've tried using the 2Wire router alone and also configuring the 2Wire static IP addressing, firewall off, DMZ plus, etc. setup along with my own pfSense router/firewall. Either way it appears I exceed the 1024 session limit and sessions start being reset. Running out of sessions isn't being caused by torrents or p2p etc. We're a business and our legitimate uses are exceeding this session limit. AT&T tells me it's not possible to bridge the router or increase or avoid the session table limit. I'm curious if anyone has found a way around either of these issues.

But not for the above combination. I just don't why this problem started a couple days ago. I removed sql server and added it again, but no good result.   Sometimes I hear that you shouldn't plug (UPS brand X / any UPS) into (power strip brand X / any power strip) because of some interaction leading to poorly conditioned power, reduced battery life, massive explosions spattering the room with battery acid, and so on. Sometimes I hear that it's the power strip that you shouldn't plug into the UPS. What I haven't gotten is a clear idea of how reliable these recommendations are or how generally/specifically they apply. Can anyone speak precisely and non-urban-legendfully on these UPS and power strip interactions, if there are in fact ones worth thinking about?

  Hi all, I am getting an infuriating EXC_BAD_ACCESS error in an objective c app I am working on. Any help you could offer would be much appreciated. I have tried the normal debug methods for this error (turning on NSZombieEnabled, checking retain/release/autorelease to make sure I'm not trying to access a deallocated object, etc.) and it hasn't seemed to help.   What is the proper procedure for distributing software updates using group policy's software installation feature? For example, if I want to install Java, and Java 1.7u6 is already added as a package, should I: A) Remove the Java 1.7u6 package (selecting the "allow users to continue to use" option), and add Java 1.7u7? B) Add Java 1.7u7 and specify that it is an update to the existing 1.7u6 package? (Will this install the oldest version first, then install each update one after the other, or will it just install the latest package?) Note that this question is geared toward the operation of the software installation feature of group policy, not specifically the behavior of the Java installers. This could easily apply to the installation of Adobe Flash, Adobe Reader, or any other common software applications with frequent updates.

• Why doesn't update-manager allow me to upgrade distribution?

  I have an Ubuntu 9.04 PC behind a corporate firewall and proxy server. This requires that in order to get update-manager to fetch and apply updates, I must set the proxy and authentication settings in the Synaptic network configuration. Once done, I can check for updates and things work smoothly (except I don't get popup notifications of new updates, must manually check periodically). However, distribution updates just don't show up in update-manager, such as the newly released 9.10 Karmic Koala. I had the same issue in upgrading 8.10 to 9.04 and solved it by downloading and upgrading from the 9.04 ISO. What do I need to do to upgrade to 9.10 using the standard update-manager UI?

  Trying to install MySQL onto the Windows XP machine. While going through the installation steps (in the "MySQL Server Instance Config. Wizard"), I get to a point where it the window reads: MySQL Server Instance Configuration (bold header) Choose the configuration for the server instance. Ready to execute... o Prepare configuration o Write configuration file o Start service o Apply security settings (this line is greyed out) Please press [Execute] to start the configuration. [ Back ] [ Execute ] [ Cancel ] So I press execute, and then a red X appears in the second step: Write configuration file and at the bottom, where it originally said: Please press [Execute] to start the configuration. It now says: The template configuration file cannot be found at C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\bin\my-template.cnf I'm unsure what it means, but I canceled the config wizard and looked in the directory that had been created (C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0). When I use Telugu LIP (India), the visual effects are turned off every time I reboot my PC. When I say visual effects, I don't mean the aero effects. The maximize and minimize effects are not felt. The effects don't show up though the check boxes are checked. Find the image showing the check boxes are checked but the effects not being showed up p. UPDATE: I recreated the account and now the effects are restored properly. UPDATE: Yes it is. This is a standard account. The surprising thing is,the check boxes are checked but still no animations. Once I make the apply button enable, the animations show up again.
